PLAYER HANDOUT 2: JULIET’S DIAS’S LAST MISSIVE
Good friend,
Our work proceeds well, and my cleverest linguists are working
to decipher the runes uncovered in the cliff’s deepest room. They
seem to confirm that this site was no mere Azlanti outpost, but a
weapons repository to aid the cyclopes of the declining Ghol-Gan
empire against the serpentfolk and their fiendish allies. I’ll send a
full translation and rubbing once we’re complete. One other item of
note: we’ve recently spotted a pale, steady light deeper in the Terwa
Uplands, about a day away. It’s persisted for two nights. I’d like to
investigate, in case it’s a temporary phenomenon, but we have our
ongoing work for the Society to consider. The journey should not
take too long. I’ll update you next month.
Juliet Dias
Aya,
The light from deeper in the hills remains steady. It seems like some
sort of beacon, and as each night passes I think it’s warning us of
some danger, or asking for help. I know, a light can’t communicate
like that, and it must sound like the heat is finally getting to me, but
I’m going to take a small team into the hills to investigate. I’ll leave
Happ in charge here; I don’t plan to be gone long.
Juliet Dias
"If you can save Juliet and the others we might be able to salvage this site." He says.
Do you want to explore the area more or head out?

"Would it be possible for us to examine these runes Dias writes about? Perhaps they can impart some crucial knowledge."

![]() |

After reading the letters Rogar sighs:On second thought... Let's check this place out before moving into the jungle. Maybe some of our braniacs here could learn something that we could use against this supposed fiendish meance"

![]() |

I would like to at least check out the first few rooms in the mountainside.
""If you can save Juliet and the others we might be able to salvage this site." He says.
"That's the idea." Barnaby says as he walks south towards the cliffside opening. "Just hunker down for a couple of days and we'll be back - hopefully with Juliet and the others. Now, you said a monolith up and stomped off a few days back?" Barnaby approaches the Azlanti outpost's remnants and peers inside. "How about the other ones?"

![]() |

Waling through the ruins Barnaby's mind is filled with memories, some of them unsettling. Are those just two monoliths? One left days ago. What happened to the other?
Frowning, he begins doing his best to translate the writings along the walls.
Linguistics: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (15) + 19 + (5) = 39

![]() |

Rogar followa the others, observing them ponder about the ancient runes carved in the walls:"Well then... Can you read it? Qhat does it say? he asks, curious.

![]() |

Barnaby's built around Linguistics, Skill Focus and everything - also the dice were nice :)

GM V |

The runes around the empty niche read simply, “Iron warrior override device.” Happ can confirm that the device that once rested in the niche was shipped back to the Grand Lodge years ago. The runes on the wall read, “Our oneeyed allies may falter in their vigilance; if their fiendish prisoner loosens its bonds, our iron warriors stand ready to respond.”
What do you do?

![]() |

"Well that's not at all worrying... I'm guessing this fiendish prisoner mentioned is on the verge on breaking on breaking free. I say we make haste and track the construct through the jungle."

![]() |

Kor, not again... "Have I mentioned there are times I hate this job?" Barnaby says flatly as he rubs his unnaturally large forehead. "I mean you're right. We need to leave, now. But best to keep quiet as to how bad this could be in front of Happ. The man seems panicked enough."
Moving back toward the interim camp leader, the half-elf explains to the man: "So, we're heading out. I am - unfortunately - probably one of the experts bout things like this, so listen. Stay here and fortify. There are two iron guardians still here, right? That means this place should be as safe as you can find for leagues. We're heading out to get Juliet back: you'll still be here when we return, right?"

GM V |

You begin to leave when suddenly alarms sound! The camp is under attack!

Barnaby weaves through the tents, drawing his sword cane as he does so.
Reaching the open clearing, he stares at the two creatures beyond the baboons(?), focusing especially on the blue one.
Are those...? Not again, not again....
Double Move. Swift action Studied Combat on the Blue creature

![]() |

Kyra double moves drawing her scimitar as she goes. her stance is guarded as she moves up as she is not able to identify these creatures on sight and its more important for her to move up to be ready to assist then to hope her sling throwing skills haven't gotten rusty since her last mission.
"Kyra does not have knowledge local so she cant hep with that part of the check"

![]() |

Know Local: 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 11 + (3) + 1 = 23
As he gets a better look at the creatures, Barnaby relays what he knows to the others.

Vim moves closer to the ape-men while drawing his morningstar. When in position, he blasts three of them with divine light.
Casting Burst of Radiance on the area marked on the map. The affected creatures are blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds unless they make a DC 17 Reflex save, which reduces it to being dazzled for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds instead. Irregardless of their Reflex save, evil creatures take 4d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 1) = 7 points of damage, no save.

Kyra moves at a near sprint to her chosen spot careful to both deny the baboons any easy strikes and to not block any of her allies charge lanes as she fights a cringe at the remembrance of Amiri's nearly hour long rant from the last time she blocked her charge lane.\

If the charu-ka was slain by that whooper of an attack...
Barnaby winces as the ape-man lands a tremendous blow that smashes past his shield. As Rogar comes to his aid and takes down the assailant, Barnaby shuffles past him towards the remaining ape.
"Thanks for that." he calls back to the fighter even as he focuses his attention on the last creature. "I have had enough of these things here!"
Move, swift action study, attack
attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14 for damage: 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
If the blue charu-ka is still up, instead I'll delay as he seems to have fallen prey to Vim's orders.

![]() |

"That's it." Barnaby says as he catches his breath. "If I never see a charu-ka as long as I live I'll be a happy man." He pulls out his wand and looks at Kyra and her holy symbols. "Now I'm far from a Sarenrite, but would you mind taking a few ticks off of this for me?"
As he waits and hopes for some of his injuries to be recovered, the detective glances around at the excavators slowly coming back from the cover they'd ducked behind in the attack. "See? This is what I mean: the jungle out there's full of monsters like this. The camp is defensible; here you have the advantage. You plug that hole, bunker down, and wait just a few days. We'll be back, and hopefully with not just support, but answers."

![]() |

Vim gives the aftermath of the battle a worried look.
"If the beasts of the jungle are so brazen as to attack us here, perhaps the situation is more dire than anticipated. We should leave for our objective at once."

![]() |

"Agreed. Lead the way then. These things won't kill themselves on their own... I think" adds Rogar motioning for the others to move forward with the mission.
