Boswick Bumbleberry |
Boswick replies to the giantess.
I'm truly sorry your brothers did this to you, I think we are all better off that the bird women are dead. Now tell me of your great King. I have heard he has powerful councilors and many strong followers?
diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Alie Saechel |
"Perhaps, if the giants were not actually responsible, we might be able to negotiate some sort of peace. The harpies seem like the really bad ones here."
Kynrac |
Kynrac addresses the giantess first "I'm glad we have come to an understanding. Can you tell us where your king lives, so that we may go and pay him a visit? What about other giants of your tribe, do they often come here and visit?"
We're supposed to hold the stairs until the reinforcements come, right? If so Kynrac will fly to the harpies' nest and use it as a vantage point to observe the surroundings and make sure we don't get ambushed again.
G.M.E.W. |
King live here! King go to make sacrifices he be back real soon! Please let me go so me don't die!
Yup you are to hold it until the pathfinders send reinforcements.
The view of the Varisian plains from the top of the statue’s head is breathtaking. On a clear day, it should be possible to see all the way to the coast. A haze of flies buzzes around the feces and rubbish that discolor the giant statue’s shoulder and the gap between its head and cowl. A small door between the cowl and the back of the head opens into a fifteen-foot-radius chamber in the figure’s hollow head.
The domed chamber inside is tidy in comparison to the mess outside. Small walkways of woven branches separate eight large nests, and a hammock-like arrangement suspends one larger nest in the peak of the room.
Searching the area you find a bound and unconscious man. His right hand is crushed to the point of uselessness, though it still bears a mangled silver ring bearing a sigil, and his right leg has been amputated at
the knee—gangrene afflicts the untended wound
The ring's sigil is for a noble chelaxian house of great power.
Additionally, there is a small chest in the netted area above. In total, the room which contains 9 magical arrows and several scrolls in an aluminum scroll tube.
Arrows:
6 +1 giant-bane arrows
3 Sleep Arrows
one scroll each of heal, mass bear’s endurance, mass enlarge person, raise dead, and speak with dead, and two scrolls of stoneskin.
Alie Saechel |
Assuming Kynrac shows the scrolls to Alie, she will use Read Magic to help identify the scrolls.
She will also take a turn admiring the arrows. She reveals to the magic contained on all of them. 6 +1 giant-bane arrows, 3 Sleep Arrows "If we are to hold this position, we are going to need to use all these arrows, I'm afraid."
Spellcraft 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Boswick Bumbleberry |
Excuse my confusion is everyone in the harpy lair or just Kynrac?
My paladin will want to put the bound giant out of her misery, does anyone have an objection? Evil doers gotta go.
George Demonspawn |
George hears the words of the giant and his pleas to be set free. Before you slit his throat Boswick, perhaps we should let him prove the value of his life by letting him help us hold this area while we wait for reinforcements.
@GM: Can you let me know which buffs are still active when we go into the next fight?
My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine |
Quietly to Bos, Perhaps she should be allowed to spread the word of what happens to those that break the peace. If no one knows what happened, our actions will not be much of a deterrent.
If we want to do that, she should remain to witness our justice so she can be a true witness.
Boswick Bumbleberry |
Boswick carefully considers George's words. While he feels the giant is likely beyond redemption and will undoubtedly commit further evil acts upon this world. He is willing to stay the execution for awhile, while deciding if there is any merit to allowing it's survival as a deterrent.
Giant if I let you live what guarantee do I have that your wicked ways are behind you?
#PallyProblems
How far away is the harpy lair to where the rest of us are?
G.M.E.W. |
@Bos
Just want to clarify by previous post. Killing the giantess is not a Evil act, she irridemable and you can't trust a word out her dirty mouth. I just wanted Bos to feel bad about killing her. Sometimes doing the right thing is hard.
ME JUST WANT TO GOOOOOOOOO!!!!! the giantess wails.
The Harpies' ness is about 100 feet up and 100ft over from where you stand.
George Demonspawn |
The Paladin is listening to the Poison-using, Norgorber-worshipping Assassin who currently looks like a CE Monstrous Humanoid. Mwahaha...
Boswick Bumbleberry |
hehe. Yeah it worked, the slightest ting of remorse. But I always intended to kill the thing was just trying to see if there was a strategic advantage to keeping her alive. But now with the whining. Hardened heart I guess.
I'm sorry Truu. I just don't think you can be trusted now or in the future. I'm giving you the best gift I can, mercy.
And with that the paladin draws his longsword across the giant's throat.
Kynrac |
Kynrac casts read magic and detect magic again up in the nest.
Knowledge (nobility): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Knowledge of Ages reroll: Knowledge (nobility): 1d20 + 3 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 6 = 23
Coming down with the items, he states.
"More arrows, though I'm unable to tell what they are. The sigil belongs to a Chelaxian noble, I'm sure his family would appreciate knowing about his fate and see the sigil returned. As for the scrolls, they are of great power. Another to completely heal someone, two of stoneskin, one to enhance the whole party's stamina, another to enlarge all of us, one to speak with the deceased -which I'm tempted to use on the bearer of the sigil- and another one to raise the dead."
Barring any objections, Kynrac gives one scroll of stoneskin to Lavode, another to Alie, the bear's endurance to Lavode as well, and keeps the healing one. He then casts speak with dead with the deceased man to learn about his name, his house, and how long he was killed (to determine whether he could be raised from the dead or not).
Once his séance is over, he'll return up in the roost on watch duty.
George Demonspawn |
George will find a place to hide both from the sun and from any prying eyes.
Boswick Bumbleberry |
I thought it said the guy with the signet ring was unconscious up there in the harpy lair, not dead?
Kynrac |
Then Kynrac will attempt to revive him, reassure him then cast fly on him to escort him back to the ground level with the rest of the party.

G.M.E.W. |
With a little effort the man can be woken up, but he is weak and delirious, muttering to himself and screaming in terror. It is obvious to anyone examining him that he has a very high fever and is suffering from at least one, if not more, diseases. Healing his wounds helps calm him a little but does not seem to have any effect on his sanity or his fever.
My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine |
Kynrac, would you mind using that scroll we found? He may have information that can help us. Besides, it is the right thing to do.
.
You can hold onto my scroll of heal in case someone really needs it.
Boswick Bumbleberry |
With the giantess dead, and seeing the man from the harpy liar is well taken care of by the others, Boswick turns his attention to Tatho.
Tatho, how are you feeling. We can provide you with more healing if you like?
Tell me more about your caravan, Who do you work for and what where you transporting?
Kynrac |
"Of course, if you seek to squander precious resources." says the elf with little conviction. He uses one of the heal scrolls on the man.

G.M.E.W. |
As the healing energy washes over the man his fever goes down, his amputated leg scabs over, and the gangrenous flesh clears up. His hand even reform his bones fusing back together and popping back into place. It Takes the man a little while to fully regain his composure. Thank you! Thanks you so much! Thank you friends, he says gratefully almost crying, I can not thank you enough, you have delivered me from a fate worse than death! My name is Rova and if there is ever anything, anything at all, I can do for you all you have to do is ask Though foggy on the amount of time he has spent with the harpies he is able to tell you that he was actually traveling with the Pathfinder caravan from Kara Maga. He tells you that the Caravan leader had paid off the giants at the top of the stairs for safe passage but once down at the bottom some guards and pathfinders decided that they could take the two giant guards and take off before the "king" could send reinforcements. It might have worked too but the Harpies attacked and slaughtered everyone. He survived the fight but wishes he hadn't.
The amount of regret in the man's voice betrays the fact that he might have been one of people who suggested the attacked the giants.
Rova is known for being a pathfinder of ill repute. He has made a name for himself as an assassin aligned with the Cheliaxian government, and it is rumored he has even taken out hits on fellow pathfinders but nothing was ever proven.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Tatho thanks Bos for any additional healing (he looks like he could use a CLW). I work for a trade house out of Magnimar nothing too big but they know people who are powerful in Varisia. We were transporting fine cloth, drink, and food to sell or trade for alchemical and clockwork items.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
he doesn't seem to be telling you the whole truth. Especially about who he works for.
George Demonspawn |
George ignores the questioning of the man and watches for reinforcements from either side of this altercation.
Boswick Bumbleberry |
Sense Motive on Tatho: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Wand of Clw on Tatho: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Alie Saechel |
Alie joins George in continuing to look for any company. It was clear that someone would be coming their way quickly, either good or bad.
Kynrac |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Knowledge (local), Knowledge of Ages reroll: 1d20 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 6 = 14 Great...
"You're welcome, Rova. By the way, aren't you one of those who suggested to attack the giants? Wouldn't you happen to be part of the Sczarni, by chance? You have nothing to fear, your secret is safe with us. Although you are technically indebted to us, if only for the heal scroll. I trust you will tell us of your affiliation now, and everything relevant."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
G.M.E.W. |
Sczarni! How dare you! Do I look like one of those greasy Varisians!?! I belong to the noble House Sarini of the great nation of Cheliax! he is obviously offended by the accusation but then calms down remembering that you did just save his life. Yes, he says with a heavy sigh, I did convince the others to attack the giants. We had to give them a small fortune just to use the stairs! We would have been able to take them too, one of the other pathfinders was an accomplished spell caster, but then those damn Harpies attacked and butchered the lot of us.
Kynrac |
"My apologies if I offended you, that was not my intention. Can you tell us anything of that person over there?" The elf points at Tatho.
My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine |
So, the giants were not the ones to break the agreement first. Unfortunate, but not entirely surprising.
.
I think we should keep watch above. However, the scene you described Kynrac had 9 nests. We killed 4 and there was one on the pyre below. There should be another 4 in the area. So I don't think anyone should be up there by themselves.
Anyone think the original owners might have put any hidden spaces within this guard post? I know I would have if it had been me.
perception: 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 10 = 40 Extra +10 from activating my wayfinder of revelation. Anyone else that wants to search with me will gain the +10 for 6 rounds.
.
GM, how much further up to the top of the stairs. Can we clearly see that from down here or in the harpies nest? Is the harpies nest above the plateau to possibly see someone before they even get to the stairs?
G.M.E.W. |
The top of the stairs are about 150ft from your position on the landing (100ft above and 100ft to the east) While the top of the stairs are visible you can not see the aproach from the plains beyond do to the angle.
You can definitely see the top of the stairs as well as the approach from the roust, though the stairs are obstructed by the structures on the sides of the landings.
Kynrac |
"I can easily turn invisible or shift to gaseous form should more harpies come back. Don't worry. Moreover, I'll come down to rest, then get back up."
My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine |
Lavode asks both Rova and Tatho, Did either of you see the giant leader or his witch? If yes, did you see them use any particular powers other than their own brute strength. Did you see some sort of animal or creature with the witch?
Boswick Bumbleberry |
Excellent question Lavode
G.M.E.W. |
Rova is the first to speak up. The king came out to watch up on the stairs for a bit before going back into his hole over there. he points to the now walled up area Alie was lured too. Didn't see him do or say much so I don't know about powers but he was massive, even for a giant. A bit cleaner and with better gear too. He had a red cloak decorated with, what I guess were harpy feathers and it was secured with this gold broach the size of a shield! He had real armor too chain it looked like, but I'm not sure. I did get a good look at this hammer tough, thing was really well made, nothing line the tree limbs the others carried. He had it hanging from a belt that I sear to you was made from Troll hide! Didn't see no witch though.
Tatho shakes his head, I didn't see either. There where two giants that led us up the stairs, that is one there. He points to the giantess Bos executed. when the Harpies attacked 6 more came out to fight them off, not sure where the other three have gone.
Rova starts counting on his fingers, Yeah, there should be a bunch more giants. I know that when I came down the stairs there were at least a dozen of them milling about. I saw two die when we were attacked and I see 5 dead one here so there's got to be like 5 more around here somewhere. He seems to be getting nervous. Not to mention I only see 3 dead harpies out here and I know there were like 10 of them that attacked up down at the bottom of the steps!
Boswick Bumbleberry |
"Friends don't be afraid. We handled these giants and harpies and we'll handle the next lot of them, and that king too. Find yourselves a good hiding spot to stay in, while the battle goes on. And as soon as reinforcements arrive we'll get you out of here."
Then looking at the other pathfinders he says.
"While we have the time, let's formulate a plan to make sure these battles go our way."
Alie Saechel |
"Does anyone have any extra ear plugs," Alie asks nervously at hearing the possibility of more harpies.
Boswick Bumbleberry |
Boswick hands his earplugs to Alie.
M'lady use mine, I'll be fine without them.
Boswick Bumbleberry |
"Yes, I'll be fine. Iomedae will protect me."
I can cast protection from evil when they are spotted. Will be fine.
"Now does anyone have any messenger magic that will let us communicate with Kynrac up in that look-out spot. Perhaps we should arrange a trap of sorts to make sure we have the advantage. I don't know something like arranging the harpy and giant cadavers around the cooking pot to lure the others in, then we jump out from the alcoves. Or maybe someone has a better idea?"
Or maybe we could make a large wooden rabbit and hide inside it
Kynrac |
"Your help in this fight will be appreciated, both of you. Just don't get killed, or Valsin will have our skins. As for traps or setups, that's a good idea. Anything that can make them reveal themselves in case they benefit from the help of magic."
My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine |
...
I'd fight too if I had a way to stand. Rova adds grimly.
Wouldn't the Heal spell have fixed that?
.The harpies wall will give away that something happened. But we can probably arrange the bodies such that it look like the harpies and giants killed each other.
But do we really want to let them get that close before we take offensive action? Dunno. Haven't planned too many ambushes myself. I always seem to be getting ambushed.
.
I'm assuming my search for hidden passages didn't reveal anything. Did either of the rooms have an upper gallery or anything like that that one or more of us could hide in?
Alie Saechel |
"I'm a fan of not letting those harpies and giants get nearly close enough to us to figure out what's going on. I'd rather bomb them from afar, personally."
My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine |
I believe that this time I will summon a warrior angel, he will do better for us if included in the strengthening magics.
Unless you guys want something else, I will summon Hound Archon this
time. If feasible, it will help if it is included in the haste, prayer, etc... type effects. Though if it doesn't work out, no huge loss.
.
Plans? Barring any other suggestions I intend:
-15) Use stone skin scroll on (who?)
-10) Magic Circle Against Evil before they get here
-9) Mirror Image on self before they get here
-2) Greater Invisibility on George before they get here
-1) Vanish on self before they get here
0) Summon Monster V as the are almost here
1) Whatever other buffs I have that seem useful ( I have haste, communal 2) protection from energy, and Bless )
3) Persistant Spiked Pit on King or Witch
4) Persistant Glittedust on King or Witch
5) Suggestion on King
Edited for scrolls, oops
Alie Saechel |
Dont forget the two scrolls of Stoneskin we found here as well, Lavode. Someone needs to be sure and have those spells cast.
