[PFS] GM Zahmahkibo's "Mists of Mwangi" (Inactive)

Game Master Zahmahkibo

Map of the Blakros Museum

Seeking a few stout-hearted players to fill out a Pathfinder Society play-by-post table. On these very boards, we shall run the Mists of Mwangi scenario, arisen from the retro depths of Season 0.

This table is not part of the PFS PbP Gameday that began October 5th, but will happily accept any low-level PCs who just missed out on it. This will be a short jaunt, with a combat emphasis. A quick summary, cleaned up to avoid spoilers:

Quote:
The PCs are charged by a Pathfinder venture-captain to brave the [redacted]-filled Blakros Museum and seek out the [redacted], an [redacted] who hates the Society and has [redacted]. Within, they brave [redacted] come to life, walking [redacted], possessed [redacted], and monkey [redacted] composed of pure [redacted]. They must [redacted] these [redacted], and [redacted].

If you've played other scenarios set at the Blakros museum, it may or may not be familiar to you. No previous Blakros expereince necessary, however: chronologically, this is the first of the many playful romps set in the museum, and we don't need to go messing with space-time to create more problems.

Here's what is necessary:
-Familiarity with Pathfinder rules in general, and Society play in particular. PFS Guide to Organized Play and Additional Resources are the best sources for the latter.
-A legal PFS character of 1st or 2nd level, with a complete pazio.com messageboard profile.
-An abbreviated stat block somewhere in the Classes/Levels field of your profile with essential values for yourself and any companions. One potential format with example values: HP 10/10 | AC: 18 /T: 13 /FF: 15 | Perc. +4 | F: +4 / R: +3 /W: +0 | CMB +5 | CMD +17 | Speed 20 | Init. +3
-The ability and desire to post at least once a day over the next few weeks.

Other points of interest:

Secondary Success Conditions:

Per the recent blog announcement, this and all other games starting on or after October 1st will be run using Secondary Success Conditions. These are hidden missions designed to replace the defunct faction mission system in awarding the bonus 2nd Prestige Point per scenario.

Whereas faction missions were handed out at each scenario's start, however, the new success conditions are hidden from the players (no peeking). You will not know until the end of the scenario whether or not you have earned the bonus PP. Just because the missions are hidden, however, does not mean that players will need to distract themselves from the main task to achieve them. Comport yourselves as proud Society members by performing the best job with the least harm, and you will be rewarded.

About the GM:

This will be my first time organzing a PFS table. In the course of the game, if you believe I've made an error anywhere, don't hesitate to speak up. I will audit each character profile to the best of my ability/patience before we begin, so do your best to avoid ambiguities. The goal is to provide an edu-taining experience for all concerned.

If anyone has any interpretive rules questions, specific or general, I would be happy to discuss them.

I'll be capping the table at four seats in the interest of both challenge and expedience. A friend of mine has already expressed interest in playing, so there remains space for 3 more players. (If anyone has had poor experiences in the past with GMs showing favorable treatment to friends, rest assured that will not happen here. All players are entitled to equal treatment under the RAW.)

If we receive more than three volunteers within the next 24 hours, I'll keep signups open until midnight Friday (EST), and create the final table over the weekend, with the goal of starting no later than Monday. If interest comes slower than that, it'll be first come, first served.

Would you have room for Fissa Fuihlah, a first level [redacted] bard?

I'd like to apply!
I've been pouring through the PFS Guide for an hour or two during the last two nights and hope to finish it today. This'd be my first PFS and PbP game on these boards.
I'll create a character after work, I'm fine with filling whatever spot (rogue, tank, divine caster, etc.) is left open.

Silver Crusade

I have never done society play, but we have been toying with the idea of starting around here. So I would love to get my feet wet. I would like to play Cole Jacobs. I am in 5 play by post and post multiple times a day. So I can keep up with whatever progress you had in mind for the adventure. Thanks.

Sovereign Court

So, like @Cole, I never played in PFS, anxious to see how it works. Presenting here this Alias, a bastard child of a noble Taldor´s family, looking for a space to prove its value.

Noble Pursuit:
Scath grew up learning how to deal with violence, physical and social. Bastard son of a nobleman never had its origin recognized, nonetheless, he always wanted to show its value. Thus, since childhood has trained in troops and militias from Faldamont. Luckily, even being a bastard, his father arranged for him to train with a mentor who worked his balance between strength and agility. Now, when the Pathfinder Society accepted her as a member, came the time to show their value. Time to prove that Taldor´s blood is running on your veins!

Any advice on how I should handle prepared spells and such? It there a way to log that at the message boards?

Silver Crusade

Cool, A wizard, cleric, 2 fighters, and hopefully a bard. Looks great. And go team Taldor for the Fighters. Though I guess factions are going away based on some stuff I read? We will see.

Grand Lodge

Nice balance if Blumkoli comes through.
We do kinda need a skill-rich buddy and probably a ranged fighter. I'm a bit more built for the frontline, as I assumed it'd be fighter, cleric, wizard, bard

Sovereign Court

Greetings,

would you have room for a stout-hearted cleric of Sarenrae?

http://paizo.com/people/AliaCharybdis

At the start of the scenario it's assumed the prepared caster has taken the necessary time that day to meditate/commune/study anew with whatever source they draw their spells from. Just include a by-level list of your spells and orisons in some appropriate part of your sheet. Most players that I've seen put spells either in the Offense section, or under their own tab.

As far as the factions, I can still distribute the old missions if anyone is interested. Being a pre-Season 3 scenario, there aren't even any designed for Grand Lodge, Sczarni, or Silver Crusade agents, and they have nothing to do with the new secondary, but folks might be curious anyway.

Profile looks good, Alia. I take it you're using the Azata-Blooded variant heritage?

Good evening everybody. Fissa is here and ready to play some songs...

Thank you very much.

Liberty's Edge

Getting Brother Felinros online this afternoon.

Level 2 Inquisitor.

Fissa - I don't particularly mind referring to the mythweavers sheet, and it's often easier than the standard format for checking things like skill ranks. Most PbP GMs, however, ask their players to include all the relevant info on their forum profile as well. You're fine for the moment, but it's something to keep in mind for future tables.

Felinros - Glad to have you, but as above I'll need a complete profile of some sort before the deadline.

It's gonna be tough to keep the table to only four, with all these solid applicants. Owing to the special characteristics of this table I feel obliged to offer some advice.

In most scenarios in the 1-2 subtier, even in tables of four you'll have, if not any 2nd level PCs, at least a couple 1st levels who have played a scenario or two already and bolstered themselves with the gold and Prestige Awards. Remember that regardless of your Fame, any player can spend 2 PP on an item worth 750g or less, and that spell-trigger items can be used by anyone with the spell on their class list. It's quite common to spend those first points on a Wand of Cure Light Wounds: even if you can't use it yourself, you're almost certain to have in your group one of the nine classes who can.

For us, however, almost all prospective party members are 1st level, and almost all of those are on their first mission to boot. As it is, I'll mostly randomize the selection, but reroll if it doesn't include one of the clerics/inquisitors, subject to change pending further applicants. I'd like to give everyone a fair shot, but only as far as it doesn't inflate the risk of a TPK.

To that end, here are a couple links that everyone should check out:

From the official blog: Pathfinder Society Survival 101
From players far more experienced than myself: Surviving 1st Level in PFS

Until to I make the first gameplay post after everyone has dotted, you are of course free to change anything on your sheet (though if everyone reworks to Con-dumping Divination wizards, we may have some issues). You have 150 starting gold to work with, a potion of Cure Light Wounds is only 50g, and if you end up not needing it, 1st level retraining permits full value returns.

Sorry GM Zahmahkibo I will have to withdraw my application. Good luck to you all.

Liberty's Edge

Profile up and running.

Silver Crusade

Cole should be a little more survivable now. Dropped dodge for toughness and went with a 14 con instead of wis, my build will have two monk levels to help with will save and iron will later. Looking forward to selections.

Scáth, hate to see you go but thanks for the heads up. We're picking three more from the remaining five, so at least a full randomization is possible without risking a team devoid of healing. The time is upon us.

Counting down from the top of the list.

1d5 ⇒ 4 Alia
1d4 ⇒ 2 Arret
1d3 ⇒ 1 Fissah

Cole and Felinros - sorry you guys didn't make it. I'll send you both messages the next time I run a 1-2 table, and you'll each be guaranteed a spot should you wish.

The gameplay thread will be up soon. The rest of you, be ready to dot.

Belay that last, head to the Discussion thread. Once everyone has confirmed, I'll begin the actual scenario.

Silver Crusade

you went random. i hope you get to finish your game. You should at least look at how active people are. As said I'm in 6 play by post and post many times a day. If you want to finish something these are the type of posters you need. I would be happy to take a spot in your next game or in this one if someone doesn't report in. But random is a bad way to pick. Though I guess I wouldn't be b!@@%ing if I was selected so :) oh well. Thanks.

Sovereign Court

I have no problem giving up my spot, if it means that much to you: the group could use a fighter, and I really do not have that much investment in this, at this time.

Represent our shared Taldoran interests well!

Silver Crusade

No, please don't quit because of my little rant. I just have lots of down time at work and happen to be on the boards here a lot. Though looking at the current party make up I don't know how you guys would kill things :), but only offer me the spot if you feel you don't want to change your character. I would hate to feel like I bullied someone into a game or out of. It was mostly just the random selection didn't really give you guys a fair chance either, because with that party unless the DM pulls punches you probably wouldn't make it. Fights would take a while though with two people channeling.

Sovereign Court

No worries. No, just for the good of the party, I think having a fighter would be good. Honestly! Plus, I am notoriously bad at saving throws, heh.)

That's very generous of you, Alia--but if you do drop your spot will be randomly awarded to one of the players on the list. You can't pass it off to Cole directly. Also keep in mind that you're the only PC at the current table who isn't a completely fresh 1st level.

Sovereign Court

Very well: Alia stands ready!

Silver Crusade

Cool, go get em, sorry DM, just trying to get my feet we in society. I am hoping if I have some success on here some of my local peeps will check it out and maybe even start up a local chapter house. Good luck all. Please keep me in mind for next time. But I will probably see it in recruitment as well. ;)

Silver Crusade

If you have room at any point I am a level 1 Cleric of Seranrae. I am always looking to do more PFS

Liberty's Edge

Half-Elf, Lvl 1 Rogue. Fairly New to PFS if you still have a spot.

Thanks for the interest, but the table is well underway at this point, with no signs of drop off.

When it wraps up, however, which may be within the next week or two, I plan to open another table for the next Blakros Museum scenario, Voice in the Void. The players who applied but did not get in to the current table will be given priority, but there will be at least one space available, and everyone is welcome to apply.
