A marble statue stands at each end of this corridor. Purple faerie fire illuminates the east statue, which depicts a Garundi man who is healthy and vital on one side and cracked and burned on the other. The other statue depicts a Garundi man wrapped in linen like a mummy and wielding a staff.

"Ptah," Atum adds, "Osirian god of creation and invention."
After making sure nothing else of value is in the room that needs to be cataloged or secured, Atum leads the way through the door at the end of the hall.
Tyrion Wyrmbane |
"Let's try that focussing trick. Hnggggggggg" Tyrion says as he thinks hard on dismissing the arcane lock.
Tyrion Wyrmbane |
Didn't know we could only use it once? Thought we would be able to dismiss one, then the other one would return. So by trying to dismiss the arcane lock, the fog returns. Can we try to force it open or hack it down if needed? Got an adamantine Falcata for that :). Otherwise I think a disable device or dispel would work if anyone has it.
Elithir |
If we can't concentrate again, would a dispelling bomb be able to break the arcane lock?
If so...
Eli kneels next to the door, working to ascertain it's locking mechanism.
"Perhaps, this may work..."
The half-elf mixes a couple flasks together and from a close proximity, lobs one at the mechanism.
Dispelling bomb CL check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
GM Lithrac |
The way the suppressing is written is very vague, that's why I adjudicated that it would work only once (since it works for 24 hours), and after the 24 hours the effect returns and you'll be free to apply the suppression to another effect if you wish.
Elithir's bomb sends forth a dispelling wave on the door, which opens naturally, as if it had never been locked in the first place.
Saruna rests and studies in this spacious chamber. A large divan sits in the southeast corner. A bookshelf dominates the north wall, while tapestries and maps cover the others. The sphinx’s etched riddles and rambling notes cover the floor. With a couple of hours, you could try to decipher them.
Maldoc Tisbane |
Look at all this gibberish. Who has the time to read all of that? Do we even want to bother? Maldoc will enter the room if one of the others wishes to enter as well.
Elithir |
Eli'thir arches an eyebrow.
"These writings would no doubt provide valuable insight into the minds of sphinx-kind, but I agree, we do not possess the time to study them now."
Double back to the double doors at the end of A,2. Check them for traps.
GM Lithrac |
Elithir moves onwards, deciding against spending time now to decipher the glyphs. After a thorough inspection, he opens the double doors. Pools of pure elemental water, earth, and fire occupy this chamber. The elemental presence has warped the stone in the room, giving the surface immediately surrounding the water pool a spongy texture, growing strange crystals near the earth pool, and sending veins of pulsing magma rippling through the flagstones near the fire pool. Several metal scoops and flasks are stored at narrow workstations between the pools.
Alternatively, the raw elemental fire is harmful and enough can potentially be harvested to create a single splash weapon. Which would require a DC 15 Craft (alchemy) or Knowledge (arcana) check.

"A useful resource but one that we should leave to Tahonikepsu."
Atum leads the way back north to explore those corridors.
Elithir |
How much time would be required to make this alchemical splash weapon, with swift alchemy and all that? Eli's craft alchemy starts at +20.
Eli'thir arches an eyebrow at the contents of the room, and as he says his next words, his fellow Pathfinders and detect a slight note of emboldened interest on the part of the half-elf.
"Fasciiiinating..."
GM Lithrac |
It could be made very quickly, though you estimate that due to the volatile nature of elements, it would evaporate if not used within one hour of its creation.
Atum ventures in the northern corridors where the confusing mist used to be. These halls appear to be a catalog of sorts.

He gestures, somewhat enjoying his position as teacher to the other Pathfinders.
"We best continue our explorations. It is highly likely we may discover a thief among the rooms..."

The room Elithir explores (A10) appears to be a ritual chamber, as the architecture still bears the scars of experimentation. The smell of burnt flesh still permeates the chamber, and now-undecipherable runes drawn in blood long since reduced to powder line the floor. The walls are slightly cracked and in several places even seem to bow outward as though pushed apart by a powerful force. There is little left to learn from this room.
The last room (A8) is a neatly kept office that once doubled as living quarters. A basin in the northwest corner continuously refills with water as a decanter of endless water, and an ancient cot stands nearby. Magical illumination provides bright light. A tidy desk and workbench hold ancient quills and dried-up ink. The desk's drawers are locked.

GM Lithrac |
Most of the tools Tyrion found are well-preserved mummification paraphernalia from a past age.
The journal, written in Ancient Osiriani, records 20 years of the Amethyst Sage’s work in archiving and recording lost treasures while wrestling to maintain his own identity when exposed to his sage jewel’s memories. Several letters sandwiched between later pages describe, in brutal detail, multiple Qadiran raids in which the invaders killed or captured sages or sympathizers. The final year of entries is encoded.
Elithir |
Eli quickly flips through the journal and frowns.
"This will take too much time to study in detail, but I'm sure Tahonikepsu will be most interested in its contents."
Recalling further puzzles yet to be solved, the half-elf returns to the room with the sphinx's "gibberish" to give it a further look, wondering if the journal paired with the writing would bear additional insight.
GM Lithrac |
The journal doesn't seem to be of help as long as it is undeciphered. Decrypting the sphinx's gibberish on the ground would prove as long as deciphering the journal, by the way.
While he's thinking things over, he glances at the maps upon the wall.
Maldoc Tisbane |
Well we can't spend hours sitting around looking at gibberish, can we? Lets move on and see if we can find something that we can actually deal with.
Atum Nakhti |
"I can't trace the passages. If it makes sense to you, then catalog it to report to Tahonikepsu. Otherwise, let's keep moving before more artifacts go missing or broken."

Eli spends a few seconds flipping through one of his chronicle as he examines the maps, comparing the ones in the ancient Osiriani archive with those of Eando Kline.

The half-elf feels like he's just about to come to some sort of realization before Maldoc and Atum break his concentration.
Closing the chronicle, he returns it to his back and nods.
"Very well..."
Since it wouldn't take much, Eli would combine the alchemical reagents, expecting that if he were to use them, he would do so in the next half-hour while exploring the lower level.
Eli advances towards the breech in the western wall.
"Curious... perhaps this is how thieves invaded these archives in an attempt to pillage its secrets..."
The half-elf looks around for signs of the intruders.

Atum Nakhti |
That's fine, we can go that way.
GM Lithrac |
The cavern opens into two places. A natural cavern continues to the south, apparently leading to a much larger cavern, while the easternmost excavated corridor leads into a small built room resembling a workshop. There, narrow workbenches crowded with partially constructed porcelain and wood mannequins ring most of the room’s perimeter, and one table holds an inanimate mummy, while another presents a strange disassembled centaur-like construct. The room seems to have been in recent and frequent use lately, though now only one bat-like creature occupies it, turning its head towards you as you enter. "Badrrrru?" it inquires, before attacking you!
