Just checking as I know it was buried in text, but did the Minotaur make the reflex save? DC 14 or d6 fire damage a turn

Jedah feels the breath leave his lungs as the Minotaur's wicked horns catch him again, piercing his flamboyant outfit and staining it red with blood. looking to Kat's cry he winces as he realises the river would stop him from reaching her, but unable to shout to her due to her ailment.

With a practiced tumble, the performer rolls backwards hoping to avoid the Minotaur's swing.

Hoping that is successful...

With little to lose and knowing that Ukou is hardly able to stand either he hurls one last gout of flame hoping to put out the Minotaur.

Since we still have some bless left, I'll hold out on the inspiring speech

Kronas slows up as he reaches the edge of the stream, heart pounding in his ears. He nods in response to Katswiri's words, but says "No one else is going down, but that mangy fur ball over there!" Deftly, he plucks a stick of from his component pouch and looks at the Minotaur defiantly "What's the word?" He takes a bite of the butter and, after a quick chew, spits out a long stream of grease that arcs towards the beast's massive weapon. Grease is the word :)

Casting grease at the Minotaur's axe, Reflex DC 15 to negate, else he drops it. A bit of a risk considering how nimbly he put out the fire, but if it succeeds he might have difficulties attacking from here on... if he doesn't have another axe hidden somewhere that is :)

Grease Vs. Item:
The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on an item. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature requires its bearer to make a Reflex saving throw to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item.

It's kind of hilarious seeing the 4 of you lined up in a straight line on the other side of the river. If only I had a lightning bolt... :)

Jedah, yes he made the reflex save. Right after the first non-ooc text. Rolled a 22.

The spray of grease burst from Kronas' mouth, but the minotaur quickly turns his back towards it, saving his weapon from the spell.
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Katswiri makes ready to heal her wounded teammates, but both valiantly decide to stay to engage the enemy. Just as Jedah tumbles past, the minotaur swings his massive horns at him, but only manages to tear a gaping hole in his robes. You were very close! When he lands, Jedah pirouettes around and looses a bolt of fire at the beast, singeing him this time in his stomach. Link loads and fires his pistol twice in rapid succession, and the first bullet grazing the monster across his neck.

Vinceza, frustrated with her previous failed attack, pulls out her big guns and throw the massive bomb unerringly this time. A massive explosion tears open a gaping hole in the minotaur's chest. He screams, this time in pain rather than fury, and almost collapses on his feet. He looks about to turn tail to flee, but Ukou's swing of his battleaxe chops deeply into the monster's hamstring, and the minotaur crumbles to the ground unconscious, his life blood flowing freely into the dirt.

Combat over! And in the process, defeated the dice bot as well!

Katswiri drops her pack to the ground, tearing at her arm to get her shield off as she eyes Janira's fallen body and the river between them. It is at its narrowest here, and she thinks she might be able to make the jump. "Pull me out of the river on the far side if I fall in, I have to get to Janira if she still lives!"

Katswiri will grab her rope and the scroll case containing her scrolls out of her pack and tuck her potion of touch of the sea in her pocket. She will then grab one end of the the rope in one hand, the scroll case in the other, and toss the far end of the rope to Ukou. Assuming he grabs it, she'll back up and try to make a running leap.

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 Possibly an additional -4 for speed of 20 feet? Rules somewhat fuzzy on this point.

And immediately trip and fall flat on her face.

First question would be, with an acrobatics check of 0 she jumps 0 feet. Does she fall in the river, or just sort of faceplant on the edge? Second, what sort of checks, if any, will she or Ukou need to make to pull her out?

Sovereign Court

Year of Boundless Wonder

Katswiri attempts to jump across the river, but trips over her own foot, and falls flat. Beyond dunking her head in the river, the only thing bruised is her pride.

I read RAW that the -4 doesn't apply, so it refers to "based speed", not speed, and that the penalty is a racial one. Anyway, doesn't matter since you can't jump negative distance. :) Take note that out of combat, you can just take 10. Katswiri would be able to jump 8 feet, sufficient to clear the narrowest part of the river.

Cool, I went with rolling in part because I wasn't sure about the -4, and she would need better than a take 10 if that applied.

Katswiri coughs up some mud and water as she levers herself off the ground, face reddening slightly in embarassment and irritation with herself. "Gods damn water getting everywhere, we never had these sorts of problems in Osirion." She rubs her face on her sleeve to dry it, then backs up and tries as carefully as she can to make the leap, landing on the other side. She rushes over to Janira, and lacking the skill to see if she is alive or not, elects to immediately apply healing magic regardless.

Normally he would feel like jumping for joy and hugging people, but with Janira unconscious, he can't seem to do it... Acrobatics, Take 10: 10

As he passes Jedah he says, encouragingly "Vinny has that wand from earlier, maybe you could ask her while we try to wake Janira" And takes the rare opportunity (now that he is at eye level) to give the sitting man a congratulatory pat on the shoulder. He rushes the last few feet to catch up with Katswiri "How is she? Is she awake?" He makes a weird gesture, and a wand shoots out from his sleeve into a waiting hand.

Wand of CLW, just in case ;) If Janira is still unconscious (or just needs more help) and Kat doesn't want to use any more spell slots, Kronas can use the wand.

Kronas, actually you would take the -4 racial penalty to jump. :) But I'm just going to handwave that.

As Katswiri lays her hands on Janira, a wave of divine healing magic infuses into her body, and her wounds start to close. Suddenly, Janira sits up. Although still pale from loss of blood, she looks at Katswiri, and tears of joy rolls down her face. She grabs Katswiri and loudly exclaims, "Oh, you're alive!" She looks up briefly and sees Kronas next to her. Janira then similarly grabs Kronas and cries, "And you're alive, too!" She looks around at the rest of the party, her joy at seeing all of you practically bursting from her. "You're all alive!" She looks down at herself, patting herself to check her injuries. "And I'm alive!" she says, somewhat surprised. Only then does she notice the body of the minotaur. "Hmm, him not so much. Good riddance to a horrible menance."

Eventually, she regains her composure and weakly gets on her feet but her legs buckle and she sits back down again. "Oomph! I guess I'm still a bit weak. Let me sit down for a while," she says, grinning sheepishly. "You did good, you did. You defeated a minotaur! I missed most of it, but you can be sure Janira Garvix has one more story to tell from now on! How a group of six initiates triumphed over a monstrous beast and saved their fallen mentor!"

After taking a short breather, Janira looks at each of you in turn. "Oh, but your Confirmation! Did you find the gillmen? And what have you found out about the caves?"

This is pretty much the end of the scenario. There is one minor room and combat but it is quite anti-dramatic and not necessary for the completion of the scenario.

Katswiri presses her hands again on Janira, healing warmth flowing into her. "We did! There is a fascinating shrine to Aroden in the cave system, that the Gillmen hold holy. We met a very nice Gillman named Uori there, who is on a pilgrimage to meditate at the shrine tonight, at the full moon. He's like me!" Here Katswiri excitedly gestures to her ears. "I've never met anyone deafened by the gods before other than myself, although he wasn't given quite the same gifts. I was hoping, do you think we could camp here tonight, and offer to travel with Uori back to the sea tomorrow? I don't know if he would accept our offer, but it would be safer for all of us to travel in a larger group, and I would very much appreciate a chance to get to know him better."

After watching Janira's response, Katswiri will move over to Ukou, pressing her hands against the gash left by the minotaur's battle axe. The wound closes over, healing completely as she nods, critically appraising her work. "There, that should be better."

Cure Light Wounds, Ukou: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I am fine skipping the last encounter since we've recovered Janira and figured out what is going on with the Gillmen. Katswiri wants to ask Uori if he would like to perform any funeral rites or be present when we lay the Gillmen to rest, as well as if he would be willing to travel with the group. She feels some kinship with him due to the fact he is also a deaf oracle, and would like to learn as much as she can about his society, how he grew up, where his interests lie and similar. In turn, she would try to share stories about her life growing up in the desert, her interests and her adventures since joining the pathfinder society. If he seems receptive, she would try to see if he would be interested in joining the society as a contact of sorts (potentially trying for the recruitment goal in Katswiri's faction card).

Assuming he is interested, I'm open to either roleplaying that to some degree, or just doing a summary post with a diplomacy roll if we want to wrap things up.

Year of Boundless Wonder

Ahh! I had a long post I put up on Friday, and I just noticed it's missing! Sigh. No wonder everyone was silent.

The party retraces its steps back through the cavern just as the rising sun rises in the horizon, returning to the small cave where the body of the would-be necromancer still lies. You reverently gather up the skeletons of the gillmen and carry them back to the room with the altar of Absalom.

Uori is still there but is gathering up his belongings. He looks up when your party enters, with a faint smile, relieved that none of you have come to harm, although he looks inquisitively at the large bundles that you carry. His face turns to sorrow, however, when you show him the remains of the gillmen and explain what had happened to them.

"So the pit at the entrance. It was a trap for my people..."

Silently, the party retraces its steps once again to the river where shortly earlier a fierce battle was being fought. The carcass of the minotaur was no where in sight, likely dragged off my some carrion feeders. All that's left behind is a smear of blood that disappears into the undergrowth.

One by one, Uori gently slides the remains into the river, chanting a silent prayer to Gozreh for each of them. They disappear quickly into the swiftly flowing river.

Uori finally turns to the party. "It seems that today has been a blessed day for our people. You've uncovered the mystery of what happened to the missing pilgrims, providing at least some closure to their family and friends. And you have made these caverns safer for us, too. My village is under the sea between the Isle of Kortos and Isle of Erran, but if you ever wish to look for me, leave word in our embassy on Escadar." That is a city on the Isle of Erran.

Katswiri, go ahead and make the dice rolls for the recruitment. We'll insert whatever roleplay here.

Uori smiles as he adds one more thing. "Perhaps more importantly, you have found for us a safer route to these caves," as he gestures to the river. "No longer would we need to make the dangerous overland trek for our pilgrimage." He bows to each of you in turn in thanks and farewell. He then quickly slips into the river and disappears into its depth.

Katswiri nods sadly at his words and lays a comforting hand on his arm. "It was. I am so sorry that this happened, Uori. At least we will be able to lay them to rest."

Katswiri watches the funeral ceremony with keen interest, tinged with sadness. She doesn't wish to disturb the proceedings by painting during them, but she does find the opportunity to witness a gillman funeral proceeding fascinating. She resolves to record notes later that night before she forgets the detauls, but when it would no longer be potentially disrespectful.

The pathfinder society has agents investigating areas all over Golarion, gathering knowledge and lore. I have seen wonders of ancient Azlant I had only dreamed of before I joined the society." For a moment, there is a feeling in the air of ancient power, as a faint green spark seems to light deep in her eyes. "There is much we could share with each other that could be of benefit to us all." Katswiri gives him her warmest smile, eyes twinkling. "Besides, I was also hoping to get to know you better personally, Uori. We have more than a little in common, after all." Katswiri gently touches her ear. "What do you say?"

Jedah shrugs and makes his way back to the cave, helping the others grab the bags of bones. Watching Uori's ceremony with a little interest, the performer nonetheless shivers everytime the remains are left to the water. Much better to be burnt than drowned, rven in death. he thinks to himself, not wishing to disturb the priest. With the ritual done he nods to Uori and sighs deeply at their discoveries.

"Let us hope this does not happen again, the Pit should br marked to be filled when it can and no more foulness stalks the hills we can hope. Uori, I wish you the best of luck."

Vincenza helps gather the fallen Gillmen with the others and stands quietly and respectfully to the side as Uroi performs the rites. She plans to record what she remembers of the funeral in her journal on the way home. She waves to Uroi as he leaves.

"Well, that sounds like a plan to me!" she says, grinning at Kronas.

Janira leads the expedition back to Absalom, this time without further incident. Once safely back in the Grand Lodge, the Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine summons the party and Janira to his study and inquires excitedly about what you have found. ”Show me your notes! We need to compile them for the records!”

Really, show him your notes. :) But like mentioned earlier, just some brief points are enough. You can post them here, or add a slide to the maps and handouts, or whatever. I emphasise again, just brief ntoes. :)

"Oh, yes... you won't believe what we found!" Kronas says with a smile as he starts to rummage through his sack. He pulls out a journal, the cover of which is now covered in inky fingerprints, and passes it to the Master of Scrolls "It's really exciting stuff! The sort of thing you should read by a roaring fire with a warm cup of spiced wine." He looks around at his comrades, and the smile on his face just seems to get bigger "You are all awesome! I wouldn't have wanted to do this with anyone else... I mean, you took done a Minotaur! A Minotaur..." and shakes his head in disbelief.

The short version of the notes are below (totally brief... honest), but I couldn't resist adding a longer version to the handouts just for kicks :)

Notes:

We wrestled some snakes and got lost on our way to the cave, but by working together, we found it in the end.

A Minotaur attacked, Janira led it away as we entered the cave

The cave walls are covered in petroglyphs (some ancient, some new) commemorating pilgrimages.

Found a shrine to Aroden, and talked to a Gillman. Gillfolk find the pure water there holy and travel alone to meditate by it.

We performed four ancient rituals and found that Aroden still has power there.

A Dhamphir had been killing pilgrims to raise an army of skeletons, only the skeletons killed him.

We found Janira still fighting the Minotaur, together we defeated it.

We laid the bones of the dead Gillfolk in a river, as is there custom.

Vinny fishes for her notebook in her bag. She pulls it out and hands it to Master Shaine. "It certainly was quite the adventure! Definitely a solid first experience with the Pathfinder Society. Looking forward to my next trip, assuming I pass muster here," she says nonchalantly.

Notes:

Vinny's notes-

We journeyed through a forest today. Uneventful, pleasant weather. Had a chance to prep extracts before sleeping.

Encounted a pile of snakes on the way to the caves. I didn't even get a chance to blow them up, which I'm quite disappointed about. Link and Ukou got to have all the fun. I hope Janira will be ok, that minotaur looked nasty. She seems like a smart cookie, I'm sure she can hold her own.

We made it into the caves. There is strange glowing writing on the walls, it is very pretty. Making it across the hole was not overly difficult, even if it did take a while.

There are etchings on the walls deeper into the cave. Katswiri says they are rituals, and that we can attempt to perform them.

There is a gillman here. His name Uroi and he seems friendly, but I get suspicious vibes from him. I think we should be careful. He is also deaf, like Katswiri. She was very excited about that.

I figured out the ritual of the beggar! The others got the other three. Deeper into the cave we found the remains of a Dhampir and his skeletons. (I got to blow two of them up! I didn't even hit them!) Looks like things didn't end very well for him, which I can't say I'm sad about. We promised Uroi we would lay any dead gillmen we found to rest in running water, but we couldn't carry the skeletons with us. We left them and will go back for them if we can.

We are back from our trip now. Janira is alive and well, we rescued her from the minotaur! I hit it with THE SUPER right in the chest. Didn't stand a chance against my beauty. Link, Jedah, and Ukou got in a few good licks too. Nasty, scary beast. Kat healed Janira, and Kronas seems to think we'll be able to drink off this story in pubs for a long time... a theory I mean to test thoroughly!

"We had quite the successful trip, Master Shaine, although there were a few close calls." Katswiri removes her journal from her pack and flips open to the start of the pictures she drew on the trip. "These should help provide some additional context to our discoveries, and help act as a visual guide for any future travelers to the site." Katswiri also takes out the pearl and the ring that were found with the Dhampir's body, gently setting the pearl down on a nearby table. "These should be taken to the archives for study. The ring is a straightforward protective device, but I was not able to determine what the pearl does. It has a powerful enchantment, however, so I think it is best if you or another senior pathfinder examine it."

Notes:
Page 12: The scene Katswiri painted of the campsite the first out. It is a picturesque scene of rocks, trees and tents with a dying campfire in the middle drawn to help her relax before sleep. A small note has been made in the lower right hand corner of the page detailing the distance and heading of the campsite from Absalom and the cave.

Page 13: The scene Katswiri painted of the hidden cave full of ancient religious carvings celebrating Aroden. This picture is split into four parts, each containing a column of stone with carvings depicting one of Aroden's aspects.

Page 14: The scene Katswiri painted of the pool of holy water containing the shrine to Aroden, surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites. There are written notes regarding the geological composition in the margins.

Page 15: On the trip back to Absalom, Katswiri paints a picture of Uori performing the funeral rites for the skeletons, placing the bones into a wooded mountain stream.

In addition, she does a number of additional pictures with fewer details, more sketches than full paintings, to help finish documenting their journey.

Page 16: This page contains a sketch of a swarm of snakes being burned by gouts of fire from Jedah's hands and an explosive thrown by Ukou. The rest of the group is depicted approaching the fight with weapons drawn.

Page 17: This page contains a sketch of Janira leading a minotaur wielding a battleaxe away into the forest as the last member of the group is shown slipping into the narrow cave entrance.

Page 18: This page contains a sketch of a deep pit in a cavern tunnel, with a cloak the bottom. Katswiri is shown in the picture looking over the edge for scale.

Page 19: This page contains an image of four skeletons approaching the viewer out of a dark, narrow cavern. An explosion is depicted detonating two of the skeletons, and there is a body in the corner. Care it taken to show the body wearing a ring, with a pearl and a book lying next to it.

Page 20: This page contains a sketch of a minotaur standing next to a forested mountain stream, being blown apart while sliced in the leg by Ukou. There is a note at the bottom: "Chronology of trip: pgs 12, 16, 17, 18, 13, 14, 19, 20, 15. 15-20 drawn from memory."

Kronas flushes "Ah... yes, um..." and removes his cloak, offering it to Master Shaine "This belonged to one of the unfortunate Gillfolk who met their end in the caves. It was made by Crafter Mowari, quite rare apparently, and it also protects the wearer a little." He takes one final look at the cloak, admiring the patterns of diving dolphins and dancing sea nymphs "Plus it's a lovely shade of blue!" he adds as if that's the most important thing.

Ukou looks about at other people's notes. He contemplates handing Kronas' cloak over with Kronas still in it, or pretending that a bit of pretty stone he found on the trail back that he was going to give to Katswiri (when he had worked up the courage of course) was something he found in the cave, then he remembers something. The nearly-seven-foot orc (minus stiff mohawk) grabs Janira, and puts the halfling on Shaine's desk.

"Ukou found her. She tell you all about mission." He beams through his tusks.

Kronas, I really like what you did! Amazing! I'm keeping that for posterity.

Kreighton starts flipping through your notes on the spot, frowning at Kronas' child-like doodles by the margins. He does stop to examine Katswiri's paintings, not really listening to Kronas' defense.

Janira squeaks when she is suddenly picked up. She grins in glee when Ukou explains though, but Kreighton does not look amused. He then turns to look at Jedah and Link.

If you would rather not, it is fine, and I'll move on.

Link shows Shaine his journal.

Notes:

"This is my second mission and the crew is just as diverse as the last. We seem to do well in a fight though. We fought some snakes and made it out. Things look good to find the cave quickly."

"We got attacked by a minotaur and Janira helped us get away and finish the mission."

*picture of petroglyphs*

"We found a shrine with a Gillman. He told us a bit about the place and the holy site that this cave is. We figured out a few rituals associated with the glyphs."

"Dhampir! Crazy!"

Sorry! Busy last night when I thought I wouldn't ^^

Jedah listens to his friend's explanations as Kreighton flicks through the presented notes. Laughing loudly as Ukou picks up Janira he gives her a small clap and a wink in appreciation. In the excitement he forgot about his own notes until the Master of Scrolsl fixes them with a piercing glare.

Man he is miserable today! Wonder what got in his porridge? he has the mind not to say aloud as he passes his colourful, patchwork notebook to the Elf.

Notes:

The following are notes taken from a haphazard journal with a chaotic style. Each page seems to be written in various coloured inks: violet, blues and reds.

-Janira’s a fantastic guide! I can see Ukou and Kronas will get on like a house on fire… hopefully not literally. Everyone is very welcoming, good bunch of folks!

-[This next section is a tad hastier, written just inside the cave] So a horde of snakes! Those things get everywhere don’t’cha know. We managed to avoid getting lost due to great eyes of our companions but the peace was broken by a fearsome Minotaur! Janira bravely led it away to give us time to complete our mission.

-The Cave is oddly built, some bits seemingly natural, but that hole surely isn’t! Easily cleared it, but there is a cloak down there, a nice colour but a bit too sea themed for me!

-This Chamber seems to be religious according to our resident brainiacs! Ritualistic paintings but many have faded.

-A real life Gillman! Submerged in water we were cautious as we approached, he seemed to ignore us but turns out the fella is deaf! Oops! A bit dour but he was helpful. Turns out this is a shrine to Aroden of all people. It’s a pilgrimage even though the Gillman don’t think he is so special (?) and holds very little power now he’s dead. Turns out it had enough to bless us with some weird rituals!

-Passing on we were set upon by Skeletons, though they lasted but half a breath as Vin’s Bomb blew them to smithereens! Turns out a Dhamphir had dug the whole to build a damnable army of Gilman pilgrims. Really bit him on the butt when they turned on him! Get it, bit?

-Through a secret exit, we heard the rousing tale of Janira and the shouting of a Minotaur. We had to hurry. Right through an Amoeba cave-block we emerged across a plains to see our Plucky mentor desperately trying to save herself from the Minotaur’s axe!

-Down goes Janira! The Minotaur struck a fearsome blow as all we could do was rush forwards through the snagging bushes. Leaping the river was foolish but exhilarating! With Flame, Shot, Axe and Bomb we fought, bolstered by our friend’s spells. Narrowly the Axe was weaved but the horn struck hard! Ukou and I barely held on before the Minotaur fell but we felled it!

-Having found the Skeletons before belonged to the Gillmen, we talked to Ukou (the living Gillman) who performed a burial ritual for his fallen kin, interring them in flowing water before he too left downstream.

-Now to report to Shaine, hope he isn’t in a foul mood!

Shaine flips through Link's report rather quickly, then have to squint quite a few times in reading the multi-coloured report of Jedah's, and smiles wryly at the end.

”Good, good," although he does glance at Uokou briefly. "Taking good notes is important for all Pathfinders, to take down ideas and observations while the thoughts are fresh. Why, it is difficult enough to remember what one had for breakfast! Well, I do!” Kreighton shares. He then turns to Janira, ”And you, young lady, do not disappoint me. You have done an amazing job your first time as a guide and mentor. I look forward to your promising future.” Janira is beaming with delight, and blushes. ”They are the ones to praise. I would not have made it back alive if not for them!”

Three days later, the Masters of the Society confirms each of you as full Pathfinder field agents. As part of the ceremony, that you are also gifted a personalized wayfinder, reminding you that this is not only the symbol of the Pathfinder’s trade but also a reminder of the three principle duties: explore, report, and cooperate.

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the scenario. Will get the chronicle sheets up shortly.
