The party, dogged but still determined, search the streets and tent city for any sign of the true killer or evidence of his or her mischief. As the Archons take to the tent city, they find nothing of use nor see anything out of the ordinary. Tarek attempts to divine the nature of the evil that has descended the town, but to no avail. Isador attempts to uncover further evidence of the rumored hedge witch but is met with looks of disbelief and incredulity. Isador finds no further evidence of a witch, hedge or otherwise.

The Archons return wearily to the Heath and Harvest, tired, frustrated and looking for answers. As they walk the streets to return to the inn, they are watched by suspicious citizens of Dawton, and met with hard stares and are looked on with suspicion. Hungry for some of the Harvest's actually good food and a hearty ale, they climb into the inn. Just before they find a table, a young man walk up to the group holding something in his right hand. The man wlaks up to Tarek with a rather blank look on his face. He holds out his hand to Tarek and the party can see the man is holding a folded piece of parchment. The man looks to Trek 'lo there! I was asked to deliver this to the silver man and his friends, reckon that's you. He holds out the paper to Tarek.

Tarek accepts the note and looks the young man over I thank you for delivering the note. Tarek hands the man a copper piece and then examines the note. After digesting the information, he hands the note to the other Archons. This has every making of being a trap. I have no idea how someone who is locked in an attic would know about us and be able to get a note to us. It is also odd that the note was not sent to the Sheriff but instead to the group of untrustworthy visitors. It seems the night is not quite over for us. Trap or not, we must investigate this house. I am certain we can put our heads together and come up with a reasonable plan.

Kid, you are gong to be well paid, but your work is not over yet, you need to come with us to the Sherif's. I don't mean to scare the arcane poop out of you, but the person that sent you on this task might mean you serious harm once you leave the inn. I study his reaction for a brief second and add. I swear by Aroden and Iomeade that no harm will come to you as long as we are here.

The Archons contemplate how they will proceed with the suspect note. As the party decides upon a course of action, Kat tilts her head as she catches a glimpse of the note. She inspects the note further and is certain that the note was written by the same person who penned the letter to both Starre Spire and Sheriff Luin.

Havelock attempts to recruit the young messenger to accompany them to see the mayor/sheriff. Hmm, I reckon no harm in taking a few coins, but I really don't have much to tell. Some little girl run up t'me and said to give this here note to that silver fella and his friends. She looked all needy like, so I thought, eh, why not help the little tyke out. The man pockets the coins and waits for the party to get moving.

Decision time. Post if you are splitting or staying together and name your destination. Kat, I know you will scout the location first. The rest of you, let me know what you are doing.

Tarek speaks to the Archons It bothers me to hear that a little girl passed along this note and not an adult. Not much of this story is making sense to me and we should be wary of any encounter. I still have a feeling that either mind control is being used or we may have a shapechanger on the loose. We will do our best to be quick at the Sheriff's and meet you at the house described in the note. The one with white walls and two chimneys on the edge of town sounds fairly descriptive and should be easy to locate. If we have not joined you within the hour then expect that we ran into trouble.

GM: Have we seen this house in our travels about town?

Tarek will question the messenger about the location of this house, if they are uncertain of it's location.

After getting the details, Tarek kneels down and scratches a crude map of the town in the dirt. We will follow along this path He slowly draws a line through the dirt from their current location to the Sheriff's home and then from his home to the white walled house If something should happen to us, this is the route we will take. Hopefully it will be uneventful, but should things go badly then this will give you an idea of where to look for us. I am ready to move out. Does anyone wish to add anything before we split up?

The agents launch into action. Tarek and Havelock seek out the mayor while the rest of the party sets out to locate the sheriff.

Due to the distinctive description of the house, Kat and her gang are able to locate the house with little effort. Kat leaves her party out of sight and recons the house. As the sun sets, she takes to the sahdows and does a quick look about the house and the surrounding area. The house is two stories tall and sided with wooden panels. All of the exterior windows are cracked. Kat does not detect anything unusual about the house or the surrounding area.

Meanwhile...

Tarek and Havelock travel with the messenger to the Mayor's house. The find that he is not present and the remaining guards do not know his location. He is likely travelling about town and it will likely take some time to locate him.

Tarek and Havelock find no fortune in their search for the town's mayor and sheriff. They decide to head toward the rest of the Archons.

Kat uses the growing shadows to get closer to their target house. She is able to peek into a few windows, but is unable to find purchase enough to safely scale the house. From the first floor, she gets a glimpse inside. She sees what appears to be a normal house, with a few rooms with various tables and chairs. Kat does not detect anyone inside nor anything unusual

Well, I think that whether we go in or not is a non-issue. The question is point of entry and if we're going in all together or in two groups.

Checks spell description.

Tarek removes his shining wayfinder and walks the perimeter of the house as he activates the objects innate ability to detect the presence of evil. After completing his walk, the shining wayfinder does not inidcate it detects an aura of evil.

Detect Evil:
School divination; Level cleric 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Component V, S, DF
Range 60 ft.
Area cone-shaped emanation
Duration concentration, up to 10 min./ level (D)
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
You can sense the presence of evil. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area or subject.

1st Round: Presence or absence of evil.

2nd Round: Number of evil auras (creatures, objects, or spells) in the area and the power of the most potent evil aura present.

If you are of good alignment, and the strongest evil aura's power is overwhelming (see below), and the HD or level of the aura's source is at least twice your character level, you are stunned for 1 round and the spell ends.

3rd Round: The power and location of each aura. If an aura is outside your line of sight, then you discern its direction but not its exact location.

Aura Power: An evil aura's power depends on the type of evil creature or object that you're detecting and its HD, caster level, or (in the case of a cleric) class level; see the table below. If an aura falls into more than one strength category, the spell indicates the stronger of the two.

Lingering Aura: An evil aura lingers after its original source dissipates (in the case of a spell) or is destroyed (in the case of a creature or magic item). If detect evil is cast and directed at such a location, the spell indicates an aura strength of dim (even weaker than a faint aura). How long the aura lingers at this dim level depends on its original power:

Original Strength Duration of Lingering Aura
Faint 1d6 rounds
Moderate 1d6 minutes
Strong 1d6 × 10 minutes
Overwhelming 1d6 days
Animals, traps, poisons, and other potential perils are not evil, and as such this spell does not detect them. Creatures with actively evil intents count as evil creatures for the purpose of this spell.

Each round, you can turn to detect evil in a new area. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it.

Detect Chaos/Evil/Good/Law
Creature/Object Aura Power
None Faint Moderate Strong Overwhelming
Aligned creature1 (HD) 4 or lower 5–10 11–25 26–50 51 or higher
Aligned Undead (HD) — 2 or lower 3–8 9–20 21 or higher
Aligned outsider (HD) — 1 or lower 2–4 5–10 11 or higher
Cleric or paladin of an aligned deity2 (class levels) — 1 2–4 5–10 11 or higher
Aligned magic item or spell (caster level) 5th or lower 6th–10th 11th–15th 16th–20th 21st or higher
1 Except for undead and outsiders, which have their own entries on the table.
2 Some characters who are not clerics may radiate an aura of equivalent power. The class description will indicate whether this applies.

I also read that the compass on the wayfinder is what locates the evil. It will point in the direction of anything evil within 60 feet. I am not sure if a spell is actually cast or if it is an ability activation like a Paladin's detect evil. Not that it will make a difference now but I thought I would get your take on it for future use.

We aren't going to discover anything more by standing out here. How about we have a look inside? I guess we could knock. I don't think it is a good idea to break into someone's home when we are not sure if anyone is really being held captive Tarek approaches the closest door and tests the handle to see if it will open. If it opens then he will speak a greeting and ask if anyone is home

Tarek approaches the house and finds it slightly ajar. He is easily able to push open the portal, opening it to show a view of the interior. There seems to be little light in the house, and Tarek can see flickering shadows as the light of the 3/4 moon shines through the open windows. A slight breeze tosses the curtains lightly as the breeze seeps through the open windows. Tarek offers a greeting which echos slightly through the open door. There is no response.
