Kayde Morson |
Kayde watches the exchange tensely, but begins to relax when neither side starts slicing the other up. Beginning to get a grip on the situation, he grins.
"So you guys are thieves in over your heads, hidin' stuck behind this door from some kinda terrible, weird, provocatively-clothed monster?" He pauses, shakes his head, and continues. "Then I got a deal for ya. The Pharasmans hired us on to solve their missing body problem, clear out this level, and take whatever spoils we find." He gives the two tengu a direct look, "Spoils you broke into here to steal." He waves the thought away. "But I can agree to look the other way if you give us any spoils you've already taken and tell us what you've learned about this place."
He puts an arm on Thess's shoulder, seeming to lean casually as he emphasizes her ready blade. "Or we can collar you and let the Pharasmans do whatever it is they do to grave robbers."
GM Andrew |
Skezza responds, We honestly haven't found much of anything. This room has some luxurious looking riches, but it's all just thinly gold-plated, not solid gold. We tried to take some feather from the statue in the room over but found out it was trapped and didn't mess with it.
If you go down that hallway with the six doors, the first door on the left has some dead bodies, although they look like they died yesterday. The second door on the left is where we ran from the creature, and that's all we've explored so far. We lost one of our companions. The creature killed him before we decided to run away.
Shame you want to just kick us out. I was about to propose a deal to join you guys for a small cut.
The male Tengu yells from inside, Are you crazy? You're not seriously thinking of joining them are you?
Skezza: Why not? They seem capable, and have dealt with grander things than we have in here so far.
Male Tengu: Well, I'm not doing it. I'd rather stay here until I'm 100% sure it is safe. *Squawk*
Skezza rolls her eyes.
Malakiah Uzamar |
"Hear your friend, Skezza, and just leave here. As Kayde here told, you're no Pathfinders. Take whatever you already stole and leave this place", Malakiah was uncomfortable with the tengus and will keep his eyes wide open until they leave.
GM Andrew |
Skezza: Fine, I was just trying to redeem a fraction of what we came here for. Guess I came here for nothing. We'll just take our leave.
Izzik: That's more like it! *Squawk* This place gives me the creeps. We'll see ya around, and be careful.
The two head out to the southwest corner and head down the tunnel.
GM Andrew |
Upon investigating the room closer, it looks like the tengu were correct about the golden lining. Everything is covered in a less-than-paper thin lining of gold, giving everything an impressive look but not much value. You can spend time scraping it off, but it looks like it would take a significant amount of time to get all of it. (10 hours)
Lyteonira Ceilidh |
Lyteonira looks in complete shock at Kayde before muttering Whatever happened to Caydens golden rule Kayde. "Nothing really valuable here, without spend too much time. Let's keep moving as Lyteonira suggested".
Malakiah looks at his comrades and asks "to where first? Maybe check the fresh corpses at the first door on the left, going down in the hallway?
GM Andrew |
Sounds like a general idea to go to the door with the bodies. I revealed this room on the map.
The party heads to the first door on the left in the hallway to the north. The door is not trapped or locked.
Upon opening:
Brightly painted carvings along the walls of this room vividly depict mighty dragons in flight over shining cities, while below, winged angels kneel and serve human masters. Peacock-feather motifs dominate throughout the chamber, and a faint, pleasant perfume drifts though the air. Several humans lie supine atop biers draped in rich cloth—if they are dead, the bodies are perfectly preserved and have the appearance of relaxed sleepers, showing no signs of corruption or decay.
Kayde Morson |
"Whatever happened to Caydens golden rule Kayde. Never spoil the party"
Kayde laughs, "I think you and I learned very different meanings to that saying."
Then he turns to head out with the group. Before they go, he eyes the tengu, but addresses his teammates. "I don't like leaving them in this room. I say we escort them out, learn a bit about their back door entrance, then we can begin checkin' out these other rooms."
He addresses Skezza, "And you give your word you'll stay outta here. This is dangerous enough without worryin' about you two skulkin' around."
Then I'm good entering the room.
Malakiah Uzamar |
@GM Andrew may I make any Knowledge check to know something about what those paintings represent?
@Kayde: but the exploration will continue only after we making sure that the tengus left the place, I thought it was consensus, so much so that I post earlier: "Malakiah was uncomfortable with the tengus and will keep his eyes wide open until they leave."
As soon as he gazes at the chamber and notices the corpses, Malakiah casts Detect Magic.

I missed that. But consider my post just one in support of yours. :)
Kayde waits at the door, frowning first at the bodies, then at the murals. "Think a lot of themselves, don't they?"
Not sure what else to do, he walks in.
Hopefully that saves. Does Kayde have any idea what the effect was attempting to do? I'd love to warn my team.
With his first step in, though, he stops immediately, and holds up a hand of warning to the team. "Hold!"
Kayde Morson |
Kayde stands there, looking confused, "Somethin' aint right here."
He slowly reaches out with the point of his longspear, delicately touching the edge of one of the biers. When the tip goes right through the material without ruffling it, he pushes a bit deeper. The spear goes farther and farther in ... without seeming to affect anything.
"It's fake. It's all fake." His frown deepens at the floor. "And what's 'Xavorax' mean? It's carved into the floor."
Maulaxe, the Just |
Maulaxe grumbles "Glad to see those turkeys gone, who knows what else has come in that same way though. Probably that ugly giant bat."

Thessaly |
(A very belated take 10 on that Appraise check of earlier.)
"Bah, I can make more money per hour crackin' skulls at a pub than I can scraping all this gold off," Thessaly mutters in disgust. She smirks at the tengu interplay but is just as happy to let the bird-folk go on their own way.
She follows along, squinting at the room with the illusion, nose scrunched up.

"Dunno the name," she grunts. "If it's a name at all. Could mean, like, 'for a good time go to the third street from the well' in Ancient Gobblegook."
Thessaly amuses herself for a few seconds swinging her glaive at illusory decor until the spell buckles beneath their combined disbelief. "Well, that was fun. Maybe it's a password for somethin' else. I say we keep movin'."
Maulaxe, the Just |
Maulaxe grunts and nods "Lets keep movin', even if it was enough to pay the tab, we should leave well 'nuff alone and not piss off our employers."
Thessaly |
Thessaly starts stomping north. "Let's clear this corridor, yeah?"
(Can safely assume she'll check every door for traps before opening. Here's rolls for the next two doors north of us.)

As before I'll let someone else actually open it due to my reach weapon issues. Moved on map.

Is there a door across the hall from the room we were just in? I can't tell on the map.
I missed it at first but yeah, it looks like there is. Happy to start at that door too, either/or.
GM Andrew |
Gonna just go left-right-left-right then I assume? I'm gonna start with the one across the hall then.
A large circle of tarnished silver powder, surrounded by arcane symbols, has been laid down on the floor in the center of this room. The center of the circle is empty. There are cabinets lined against the wall.

Not sure what else to do in the room he seems content to wait for the others to be ready to move on.

The 2nd door on the left now, which is the room the Tengu talked about.
Shockingly graphic depictions of orgies with all manner of creatures decorate the walls of this chamber. Five humanoid skeletons lie in state on biers—though the bodies appear human, their skulls are those of some monstrous creature. A pile of bloody bones and feathers is all that is left of a recently killed creature. Looks like the dead Tengu they talked about.
You see a creature inside. She is wearing a skimpy bra and her panties barely cover anything. Her figure is of a beautiful woman, but her face is of a horribly twisted creature that looks like a skull with an elongated jaw. Her calves have an extra joint, reminiscent of a raptor. Her mouth is covered in blood and feathers. She speaks to the party before attacking:

Lyteonira looks at the illusionist blankly. "Sorry I have no idea what you are saying just like that thing. I saw a half eaten Tengu and decided I wasn't going to wait to see if it considered me a snack. It looked evil. There is a time for chatter and a time for fighting. This definitely looked like a time for fighting"
Generally I don't like taking too long in combat situations. I will post as soon as possible to try and keep things moving. If there was no initiative I may have waited a bit longer for those who speak the lingo to speak up. But Lyteonira did not know anyone could speak Thassalonian and I did not expect anyone to. Any further discussion on this matter probably best in the discussion thread. Especially as the action has moved on
