Samildanach The Dread |
Samildanach examines the wall of names with an upraised brow, it seemed all too easy, like they were being led in a specific direction. Finding the names they seek amongst the others, Samildanach reads the descriptions and find them off but unsure as to why.
"Failed Aspirants, that explains it then, I wonder why the Gnome would ahip out his friend like that? Maybe there is more at the Tomb of the builder fellow? This rain is a bit much though isn't it?"

"It not that wet. Is there a third place to go for clues before visiting this shrine?"
GM Aerondor |
It's wet and cold. But you are all pathfinders. You're used to the wet and cold. At some stage you'll probably get used to the hot and wet too. But wet and cold is a good start.
Anything else happening here, or heading on to the tomb?

Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
I'm find with heading to the tomb.
Samildanach The Dread |
Seems like we have all we need, so off tomb robbing!
GM Aerondor |
Finn's nose starts to run. Absalom weather. It's terrible.
You make your way through the wet streets of Absalom, towards the graveyard indicated in the notes you found originally. Finn is use he feels a cold coming on.
Eventually you find the graveyard. Through the overcast spies you see the uninspiring place the last remains of the faithful are interred before their spirits pass onto the Boneyard.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan shrugs the cloak of his explorer's outfit to better shield himself from the ill weather.
Take 10 Knowledge (Religion): 10 + 0 = 10
"So, anybody know what we do about looking in that tomb? Do we ask at the temple of Pharasma?"
GM Aerondor |
Stumbling around the graveyard, Devonalia gets wet boots. It is a bit overgrown in places.
Eventually she finds a tomb with the right name on it. At the same time, she spots a figure approaching through the gloom.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan scowls as he calls out to the figure. "You'd better not be a gods damned undead!"
GM Aerondor |
The figure emerges as a soft spoken woman. She dark hair with a white streak through the middle of it.
"And indeed they would be should they set foot in the home of Pharasma." she says.
Locking eyes with Durgan she asks "And what is your business in Her domain today?". From her glance upwards you can see she is checking that (given the gloom) it is still day.
Eyes glance over the group, resting on Finn for a moment. "Is your friend so close to the end of his life that he wishes to pick a plot?"
Samildanach The Dread |
Oh great, priests of the Lady of Graves are always so droll. Samildanach keeps the thought to himself however, as he greets the fellow Cleric with a respectful bod of gis head, his holy symbol to Gozreh hanging free around his neck.
"Nothing so perilous or end of life, Finn here just had the sniffles on account of the rain. No, we come seeking knowledge of the past as many of out ilk are wont to do."
The half orc is fairly gruff but makes sure to keep his tone respectful as they are in Pharasma's domain.
GM Aerondor |
"My lady holds each soul in her hand before they pass to their eventual... reward." notes the priestess.
A diplomacy check may be helpful here...
Devonalia Crystalwind |
Devonalia is visibly disturbed by the environment.... graves... headstones... smell of death... and a creepy death cleric...she stays off in the fringes of the conversation.
Samildanach The Dread |

diplomacy assist (sort of): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
GM Aerondor |
Between Sam and Omrijka the priest seems more or less satisfied.
"May I be of assistance?" she inquires.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
"Yeah, see this gnome from the Arcanimirium left a message with this dead human. We need to get it."
GM Aerondor |
"Which dead human?" she asks.
"And what type of message? The lady of bones knows all within her domain."
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
"His name is Arkath. He was contracted to do some work several hundred years ago. He said he'd take his secrets to his grave. We think he was being literal."
GM Aerondor |
"I see...Arkath..." she ponders for a moment and then leads you towards an old overgrown tomb.
"This would be his tomb." She smiles as she watches you all.
Samildanach The Dread |
Samildanach once more nods respectfully to the priestess of the Lady of Graves, all would meet her for judgment in the end of their spiral, and despite the life he had lives to this point, it paid to get on the better side of her worshipers from time to time.
"Arkath may have some knowledge about an ancient secret from the order of Pathfinders, what we seek should be a simple message, no more and we do not seek to disturb anything within the mausoleum."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
GM Aerondor |
She nods, and takes out a large key, with which she uses to open the tomb. Within it is pretty plain. Just a stone coffin.
She watches you keenly as you enter the room.
Samildanach The Dread |
"My thanks, we should hopefully not take too long in this task."
Carefully, so as to not disturb the builder's tomb, Samildanach searches the toom to see ig anything might be hidden within the stonr walls, or perhaps a clue to the hidden message they seek.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Finn Olthaleen |
"Hmm, smells musty in here..."
Finn searches the room as well.

GM Aerondor |
Finn notices nothing more either.
Either the message isn't here, or its inside the coffin. Or you haven't searched hard enough yet :-)
Devonalia Crystalwind |
Seeing Finn searching, Devonalia tries to help find the message believing the faster they find the message the faster they can leave...
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
GM Aerondor |
And still no sign of the message. That coffin is looking more and more... inviting?
Outside the rain grows heavier. At least you are mostly dry where you are. Although the rain is starts to leak into the tomb a little.
Finn sneezes.
Samildanach The Dread |
Samildanach, sighs as they finish searching the room to no avail and he turns to the Priestess that accompanied them.
"It would appear the left message my have been buried with the dead, my we search the coffin?"
Assuming the priestess holds no grudge to this, Samaildanach will heave the coffin lid off carefully so as to not damage it.
strength?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
GM Aerondor |
"I see..." she again says, watching the group search.
At Sams request she thinks for a moment "You may look inside, so long as you take nothing and don't disturb the body."
The lid is heavy. Very heavy.
But this is PBP, eventaully you'll make it with a take twenty
The interior of Arkath's sarcophagus is empty, save for the stonmason's long dead skeleton. A quick look there shows a coin hidden in his mouth. It would appear that the priestess has not yet noticed it.
You really have three options, sneak it out (sleight of hand), convince her you should have it (diplomacy) or bash her over the head (roll for initiative :-)
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan clears his throat. "Mind if we take a look at that coin?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
GM Aerondor |
She thinks for a moment.
"His soul is long gone, and presumably he meant for the message to be found. Yes, by all means, take the coin."
The simple coin has no words on it though.
Finn Olthaleen |
"I overheard in the Wounded Wisp that some Pathfinders put messages in coins, which can only be heard when placed in a Wayfinder..."
Finn looks around at his companions. "We're a sorry lot of Pathfinders if none of us has gotten ours yet!"
Samildanach The Dread |
Samildanach shrugs, he had not yet passed his 'conformation', whatever that was and so he did not possess a Wayfinder of his own. He pondered their predicament for a moment before teplying to Finn's statement.
"Well, I haven't got one yet. Maybe some of those layabouts at the Wisp has one, if none here do."
GM Aerondor |
You head back through the rain. A chill wind has sprung up and your wet clothes start to cling uncomfortably to your bodies. All in all there have been better days.
Eventually you make it back to the Wisp. It's late afternoon, and the scene is thick with smoke heavy in the air.
Janira is still there, telling those who would listen about the famous deeds of some pathfinder called Osprey.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan hangs his wet cloak by the fire and warms his hands briefly before making his way over to Janira.
"We've got something you probably want to see." Then he stomps back over to the fire, where at least one member of his group is located.
GM Aerondor |
Janira raises her eyebrows. When Durgan produces the coins she smiles broadly.
"A pathfinder coin! I've heard about these, but not seen one beofre."
She opens her wayfinder and puts the coin on top. Once there it starts to float and then a voice speaks.
"The path and chamber are complete, hidden behind the nameplate of the requested aspirant and guarded by the word you requested. Fimbrik will add more."
Janira looks at you with interest "Well, that is very mysterious! You'll have to tell me how this ends up. But despite the weather, I'm supposed to be at my parents for dinner tonight. Good luck!"
And with that she takes her leave from the Wisp.
