Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
BTW Durgan did not enter. He'll looking in through the door from the outside.
GM Aerondor |
Looking in you see a room:
A large sofa sits awkwardly near the entrance, facing toward the center of the room. Sets of chairs and tables are arranged throughout, and statues of grandiose gnomes occupy the corners of the room. A set of stairs at the northern edge of the chamber leads down. A second set of stairs leads up.. although from the outside it doesn't look as if there is a second story.
You note that despite the lack of dust on many surfaces, no one has been here for years. The carpet and sofa show virtually no wear, and the tables are clean. In short, it doesn't really look lived in.
I'm assuming bobody has gone in yet - certainly nobody has indicated they want to the first to enter a wizards abode...Uninvited...queue maniacal laughter, stage left.
The rain is getting heavier. Soon it will start to soak through your clothes. At least inside it looks dry.
Hugo Bearbane |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
"Someone live here? Or no?"
Hugo, forgetting his earlier worries, now becomes curious and enters the room, looking at all the strange (to him) furnishings.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan steps in cautiously.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 +2 to notice unusual stonework
Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
GM Aerondor |
As the team enters the room there is a puff of brimstone, and three large fiery beethle looking creatures appear!
Samildanach: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Omrijka: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Karnak: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Devonalia: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Finn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Durgan: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Hugo: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
creatures: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
Status, bold may post:
Omrijka
Durgan
The smelly beetles.
Devonalia
Karnak
Finn
Hugo
Samildanach
Omrijka |
Omrijka stops daydreaming by the window and moves to intercept anything that looks as though it will emerge onto the street "What ya do wrong now?" she asks
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan lashes out with a flurry of blows at the blue beetle.
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
If the first blow kills the blue beetle I'll 5-foot step into its square if possible and use my second attack on the pink beetle. The puff of brimstone makes it sounds like they are summoned.
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
If I fail to kill the blue beetle then I'll 5-foot step back out of the house to allow one of my allies room for melee.
GM Aerondor |
Durgan does indeed knock over the first beetle, which vanishes with another puff of brimstone.
However you cannot 5' step in the middle of a full attack, which is what is required for flurry of blows. You can 5' step if you want, but won't get your 2nd attack. Feel free to move on the map if you choose to.
Omrijka |
Omrijka was busy gawping thru the window when things kicked off and has now moved to cover things coming out on to the street I believe the beetles are up
GM Aerondor |
The green beetle tries to take a bite out of Hugo.
attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
But really, all it gets is a mouthful of couch.
The Pink one goes for Durgan, maybe there were lots of dwarf recipies in the beetles magazines this month.
attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Devonalia

Samildanach
Omrijka
Durgan
The smelly beetles.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan shuffles further into the room in order to allow his allies access and once again pounds at the pink beetle.
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
GM Aerondor |
The dwarven due smash the two remaining beetles and they vanish in puffs of brimstone.
combat over
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan waves the rest of his fellow Pathfinders inside, ready to close the door as soon as the last of them are through.
"Lets see if we can find this damn gnome."
Samildanach The Dread |
Samildanach rolls his eyes as he hears the wizard's trap activating I just knew it he sighed as he made his way back to the House to watch his fellow Pathfinders destroy the summoned beetles. The Half-orc steps into the grand house and immediately sets about the living room to see if there is anything of relevance, or value, to be found.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
GM Aerondor |
You find nothing more of interst in the main room. There are three doors leading out.
A quick check of the two stair cases shows one leading up to an unfinished second story. The one leading down goes to a basement that is filled with many, many unread newspapers.
Karnak Garess |
Karnak suggests "Lets spread out and check out the various rooms on this floor. Devonalia and Finn come with me here on the left. Hugo and Samildanach grab the first door on the right and Omrijka and Durgan grab the second."
Karnak heads over to the left door and opens it, not waiting for a response.
GM Aerondor |
Karnak opens the door. It's the bedroom that was seen through the window. No dust, no obvious sign of life either.
Omrijka |
Omrijka will try the next door on the left (unless it's the far right door)
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan stomps over to the first door on the right and opens it.
Samildanach The Dread |
Samildanach nods at Karnak's suggestion as it seems fairly sensible, but shrugs when Durgan decides to go for the other door than was mentioned. Bloody Racists the ex-pirate thinks to himself as he goes to the second door on the right and checks it for more traps before opening it.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
GM Aerondor |
Chekcing out the doors you come on an interesting sight.
The further room is set up as a meeting room. It contains chiars, pillow and desks for at least six visitors.
A quick check of the table shows a neatly penned letter. Underneath the letter is a hastily scrwled ote in similar handwriting which contains the name "Holis Thorne".
Note is in maps link
Looking behind a curtain you find two potion bottles on the windowsill
You then head to the second room, a study. (d4)
There you see the gnome you are looking for. He doesn't seem to notice you. Getting up he moves to a bookshelf and takes down a book, then heads back to the table.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan steps into the room.
"Gno... Fimbrik? We need to ask you some questions. We knocked. You didn't answer. Didn't you hear us?"
Finn Olthaleen |
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
"There's two potions here. Can anyone identify them?"
Perception (identify): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Perception (identify): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I couldn't have rolled that during a fight?!
GM Aerondor |
The gnome appears to be hard of hearing. He just sits at the table and reads his book.
Finn thinks the first potion is cure moderate wounds. He is not too sure about the secod.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan stomps up in front of the gnome.
"I said did you hear us?"
He waves his hands to try to get Fimbrik's attention.
GM Aerondor |
Fimbrik seems rather engrossed in his book.
After ignoring you for a couple of minutes he stands and walks through Durgan and back to the book shelf.
It's a Ghost Gnome!
Well, maybe.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan is shocked as the gnome walks through him, then curses up a storm as he searches the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan stomps over to join Samildanach. Goes to area D2.
"They already searched the bedroom, so this is the only place left to look."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
GM Aerondor |
As noted above, there is a note on the table (in the maps link above) and a second note beneath it with the name Holis on it. There are the two potions found too.
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Durgan growls as he reads the note. "Is there no end to the nonsense of gnomes?"
Perception to identify the remaining potion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
"So, are we heading to the Wall of Names, or going to that other place?"
GM Aerondor |
Created in 4330 ar, the Wall of Names resides on the grounds of the Grand Lodge in Absalom. The monument is a curving wall of black glass that stands atop a small hill at the western edge of the lodge’s grounds. Trees surround the hill, providing ample shade and privacy for those visiting the wall to remember fallen comrades.
Carved into the wall are the name and date of death of every Pathfinder killed in the course of duty since the wall’s construction, and most entries also include a sentence or two summarizing either the agent’s greatest accomplishments or how she died.
What are you looking for?
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
"We should look for that name attached to the note. Hollis."
GM Aerondor |
There were three names in the initial note, and just Hollis in the second.
You have a look and find all three, along with inscriptions.
Attached to the maps handout
A knowledge(history, local or religion) check may be helpful here
Durgan Goldbrow Grimstone |
Knowledge (History): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
GM Aerondor |
The various epitaphs on the names are those of failed Aspirants.
People who have taken the Test of the Starstone, and failed.
There is the Shrine of the Failed near the cathedral at the centre of Absalom.
Where you are however, there is water. Lots of water. It's raining. Not windy, a tad chilly. But Wet. wet, wet, wet.
Fort saves from everyone please, include any bonus you like for things like Endurance, or extra vs disease.
