" well I wonder what caused this it all could not have just been the fire could it" gravleon said allowed as he looked at the stairway

Faria Quorothe |
Faria shakes her head at the destruction, unsurprised. This place was full of sorrow, as well as evil, and the specter of the fire decades before loomed over them all.
"Let us continue on, Gravleon." She places a gentle hand on his shoulder.
Sharien Oakfoot |
Sharien follows, keeping an eye out warily for more flaming skulls flying at her face.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Unfortunately she's too busy staring at her feet to make sure she doesn't trip to notice any potential dangers.

"Hang on Faria look at this, these stones were placed here after the events of the fire. Not by time but by man it must be the cult, there must be a way to get pasted this if not i know we will find them in this place and avenge our good friend..." Gravleon said with reveance

No. I'm sorry if I was unclear. They were not placed AFTER the fire. Their placement had nothing to do with the fire.
Faria Quorothe |
I believe it was a deadfall, triggered as a last resort to keep the prisoners from escaping into the surrounding region.
Faria taps her chin thoughtfully for a moment, then offers, "Let us complete our sweep of this level we go up, my friends."
Sharien Oakfoot |
Sharien gladly begins rifling through the records, trying to find anything worth the party's time.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
I'll also add a Kn. arcana check here to recognize anything magically-focused.
Kn.arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Gravleon knows he wont be much help searching the old documents so he walks down the hall and opens one of the doors

Blackheath sorts through the papers as well...
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Lol, Gravleon, you are going to be eaten by a monster and we will never know!

2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
There are a lot of papers in these four offices. A lot of them have to do with the really horrible prisoners you found out a little about before. It takes you about four hours, but, after carefully sifting through these papers, you may now reference them to find out more about the prisoners (with a bonus).
In the meantime, Gravleon grows bored and opens a door. He finds the warden's office! (Map updated.) This spacious room smells of mildew and rot. A long desk and chair sit to the south, while to the northwest a narrow alcove contains a closed safe. Thick layers of dust cover everything in sight.
Gravleon actually feels safe here!

Because of your (1) stop to see Father Grimburrow, (2) the encounter with the stirges, (3) the amount of time required to go through the prison records, and (4) travel time, I'm going to say that it's starting to get dark now. I'm also going to say that you don't want to be in the prison after dark.
If you go back to Lorrimor place and rest, you will level up! Welcome to level two. I'm also going to say that you have earned 1,000 GP each. (This is due to between story awards, the artifacts, knick-knacks, curiosities, and family items (you returned stuff to the families of the guards who worked at the prison) you've found thus far, plus a "stipend" from Prof Lorrimor for watching over his daughter.)
The short version: Please level up your characters. You're all now level 2 with 1,000 GP each.
Faria Quorothe |
Tired after a long day mainly spent walking and reading, Faria rubs her eyes as they approach the Lorrimor estate. "Perhaps we can read up on these prisoners this evening before we head back out tomorrow. They might be the key to the continued presence in Harrowstone."
The priestess greets Kendra with a smile, settling into a comfortable chair. "That's better. We do good work here, but it takes a bit of getting used to, I think." She twists a bit, popping her back.
Blackheath |
Hurray!
@GM: would 1st level spell scrolls and a composite longbow be available in Ravengro?
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
sorry I still need to use the 1000 gp that's going to take some time ^_^

When Gravleon gets in he takes off his gear collects it neatly in a corner in the study room he unwrapped his head and with with great care he folds it placing it on top of his gear, giving a small prayer to the light gravleon starts the fire and puts a pit to warm above the flame.
" Kendra, would you happen to have anything ready for us to eat it's been quite a long day and I think we could all use some of your excellent cooking, that I remember from when I spent those years here with you. I'll put on some tea if anyone wants some it's Phoenix flower I find that to be quite relaxing after a long day" and he takes a seat by the fire place

Sharien Oakfoot |
Sharien gets back to Lorrimer place and promptly sits down with all the new documents, scouring them for any useful information. She also takes some time to research spells, gaining a few new options in her repertoire. She conveniently finds several unused scrolls in the professor's personal effects.
I'll also take a bit of time to decide what to use my gold on. Probably a bunch of scrolls, perhaps a few mundane items as well.
GM Engleaktig |
Sure. Kendra has water, tea, milk, bread, cheese, fruit, nuts, stew, and cookies ready for you when you get back. :-D
I'm going to pause here to allow everyone an opportunity to level up.
Blackheath, no Ravengro is not big enough to purchase most things. However, whatever you guys need to buy, you will find at Lorrimor Place. You will "pay" GP out of the 1,000 you "have." The item will "coincidentally" be among the Professor's effects. The money you "pay" will represent your "inheritance" as his friend and/or "stipend" for the month that you must spend in Ravengro.
Sound good? :-)
Blackheath |
Sound good? :-)
Sounds great!
Back at Lorrimor Place, Blackheath claims a:
- Composite longbow 100gp
- Set of masterwork thieves tools 100gp
- Scroll of Unseen Servant 25gp
That done, he lays out on the table the map of the prison that his friends have been creating. He points to the locked door...
"With these tools and some time, I think I might be able to get us through there." With take 20, my disable device should be 31 now. "Once we finish mapping that first floor, I can sweep it with a Detect Secret Door spell to see if we missed anything."
"I'd also like to try to use this scroll of Unseen Servant to remove the bones from the haunted furnace, while hopefully standing far enough back that it does not awaken. Perhaps we can put it to rest the old fashioned way, and save our siphons for whatever else lurks in this accursed place."
Question for the group: on our side, we split the collection of arrows down the middle and I'm holding half. Are there any other archers on this side, or would you like me to hold all the special arrows from the false crypt?
Also, as a general note, Blackheath has taken a level of Ranger to flesh out his Fool/Monster Hunter concept. I promise not to step on Grog's toes, though!
"Now that night is falling, would anyone like to try and set up an ambush for the vandal at the monument? I can sneak ahead while you hang back a bit, and I will contact you using a Message spell if I see anything."
Faria Quorothe |
I'm not sure you can take 20 on unlocking things, since there is a penalty for failure (breaking picks or jamming locks). Not an expert on it, so feel free to correct!
Faria nods her agreement with Blackheath at his first two suggestions. "Excellent ideas. I'm curious to see what lies on the other side of that portal...and that haunt looked dangerous, so getting it taken care of with minimal injury is paramount."
When the man mentions the ambush, Faria gets a less enthusiastic look. "I would rather devote our efforts to Harrowstone, instead of exhausting ourselves trying to stop petty vandalism."
Blackheath |
I think take 20 should be okay with disable device, unless it was changed later, in the Core rulebook (pg. 86) under take 20 it says: "Common 'take 20' skills include Disable Device (when used to open locks), Escape Artist, and Perception (when attempting to find traps)."
"It seems like more than petty vandalism to me. Wouldn't a vandal just write out his whole message? There is something deliberate behind this. If he really is writing the name of the Warden's wife -- which is my guess -- he might know what happened on the night she mysteriously died in the same fire that destroyed the prison. Understanding the mystery behind a haunt is key to destroying it, and this might tell us the secret behind what plagues Harrowstone.
"But I've said my bit, and will yield to the will of the majority."
GM Engleaktig |
Odds, we go back to the prison. Evens, we wait at the memorial. (1d2 ⇒ 1) OK. Back to the prison!
On the way to the prison, you pass by the memorial. It happened again! This time, however, there's way more blood and gore. At least enough for a large dog or small pony. The lettering at the base of the statue says "VER".
The townsfolk are getting nervous. This means they're more likely to be unfriendly to you. Sorry. Deputy Riff does his thing outside Harrowstone's gate to keep the townsfolk safe.
Where to in the prison?
Blackheath |

"I think I was mistaken. This doesn't look like the work of someone trying to send us a message. If the amount of blood keeps increasing, it will require a villager soon. I think this is bad."
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
"i told you...well there is still my plan about one of us faking to be a new statue "
Blackheath |
"i told you...well there is still my plan about one of us faking a new statue "
"Perhaps we can try that if catching the person at the main monument doesn't work. They may need to use the specific monument -- remember the writing we found on the wall of the prison? The two might be connected somehow. This could be some sort of ritual by the cultists. Maybe they are somehow desecrating the memory of the heroes of Harrowstone and awakening their ghosts -- I don't know. But if it is a ritual then they probably can't be lured away because that statue is a focus for them. Tomorrow night, we can try to ambush them there and if it doesn't work, we can try to lure them away. Sound good?"
"Shall we pick up where we left off in the prison? Gravleon, did you make a full search of the Warden's office?"
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
"no but i did find a safe it is locked, oddly enough i felt safe in that room as if the warm light of Sarenrea was there "
Blackheath |
did we check the door in the far corner of S3?
I don't think so. Do you want to hit that right after we finish the office Gravleon found?
Blackheath nods at Gravleon and approaches the safe in the alcove.
"Let's test Petros's toolset, shall we?"
He tries to unlock the safe. With a take 20 I should have 31 to unlock it.
"A real rogue would have checked it for traps first," the clown says with a chuckle.
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
oh look is that Cthulhu i see in the safe ^_^
GM Engleaktig |
Within the safe are kept numerous (now out-of-date) legal documents, along with 500 GP (the prison's payroll and petty cash fund) and a wooden rack on which sit emergency supplies (four potions of cure moderate wounds, three potions of lesser restoration, and two potions of remove disease).
I already counted the 500 GP in your level up.

down the hall and make that right ^_^
Faria Quorothe |
Faria follows behind, lost in thought. The disturbing imagery at the monument was troublesome, but the priestess was convinced the root cause was in Harrowstone. In solving the problem here, they would solve that problem, as well. She snaps out of her reverie, ready to assist if needed.
