As the gout of flame erupts from the furnace, Faria feels the peripheral heat from the blast lick at her face, turning pale cheeks red for a few moments. Giving thanks to Pharasma for the wisdom to leave the room, she turns to her companions.

can we use a haunt trap?

Silver Crusade

Yes, you could use a haunt siphon. You suspect that it might require multiple siphons to tame this particular haunt.

With Faria's knowledge check, she realizes that removing the bones from the back of the furnace would also sooth the angry spirit.

"Removing those bones in the furnace will likely calm the haunt in that room, if we dare to try. We must be quick, or we'll feel the fury of this rather wrathful aspect of the building. I say, let us try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. And death is only the beginning of our soul's adventure." She smiles at the others.

Silver Crusade

Faria also knows that the haunt is active. Whoever tries this better be quick, lest they suffer the wrath of the flame tongue.

Okie dokie. You adjourn. Rest. Recoup.

What's the plan for the next day, everybody?

Faria awakens, feeling refreshed and invigorated after a hard night's rest. She awaits everyone in the den of the Lorrimor home, greeting them with a smile as they stream in. Once everyone gathers, "Alright, if everyone ok? Yes? Very good! Let us head back to Harrowstone and continue our investigation. We can avoid the furnace room, for now."

Silver Crusade

A couple of things happen while you all rested overnight:

(1) Somebody came back and messed with the Harrowstone Memorial statue again! This time, there's even more blood. Where before the letter "V" was also written in blood at the base of the sstatue, now "VE" is written there.

(2) After the party leaves Lorrimore Place, about a block from town square, you pass by a small group of children playing. A group of five little Varisian girls dressed in shawls and dresses are playing a skipping rope game at the side of the road. Each of the girls takes turns jumping in the rope while singing two lines of a rather disturbing song, then skips out of the rope to let the next girl take up the next two lines. The way in which the girls switch from skipping to passing the ends of the rope to each other to keep the whole thing going is strikingly well timed and well choreographed—and the verse itself, which the girls sing in Varisian, is rather disturbing.

The five repeating verses are as follows:
Put her body on the bed.
Take a knife and lop her head.

Watch the blood come out the pipe.
Feeds the stirge, so nice and ripe.

Drops of red so sparkly bright.
Splatters spell her name just right.

With a hammer killed his wife.
Now he wants to claim your life.

Tricksy father tells a lie.
Listen close or you will die.

Silver Crusade

No reactions to the children or the memorial?

After being told of the events at the Memorial, and leaving the Lorrimor estates only to encounter the singing girls skipping rope, Faria is perplexed. It seems evident that someone is at least trying to imply that the warden's wife, Vesoriana, is somehow involved in all of this. The verse about killing the wife sends particular shudders up the priestess's spine as the group proceeds to Harrowstone, the woman lost in her own thoughts along the way.

Silver Crusade

If nobody has any other reactions, then we'll continue to Harrowstone.

Sharien awakes disturbed, having had nightmares about the flaming skulls, in which they attacked her while singing the chilling song the children were singing the past evening. She meets up with Faria and the rest of the party looking a bit bedraggled.

"Well. Should we return to Harrowstone and see what we can do to rid it of its spirits?"

Silver Crusade

Just wanted to confirm that I'm here, and I'm paying attention. Getting ready to merge tables. Will post more in a bit.

Silver Crusade

Since more of the action has been in this thread, let's just go ahead and keep this one. I'll invite the active players from the other thread.

Silver Crusade

I just sent PMs to two players who have been carrying the other thread. Here's who we have in total:

Blackheath is a bard.
Gravleon is a cleric of Sarenrae.
Poshment is a paladin of Pharasma.
Faria is a cleric of Pharasma.
Sharien is a wizard.
Grog is a Ranger.

Given the new group dynamic, players should feel free to update their characters. Feel free, too, to keep the same name(s) for continuity. Both parties are/were at roughly the same spot. Instead of going into the prison, table 2 decided to circumnavigate the grounds. They found a haunted construct (a scythe) on a balcony.

I'll keep Sharien as she is, with her wizardly ways and her scaredy-cat nature. :-D Can you let us know where you'd like us to start off at? Entering the grounds?

We will continue where this table left off. I'm happy to say that the party had split up. Blackheath and Gravleon explored the grounds while the rest of you went in the prison. It give you the opportunity, in character, to update each other.

"We found a haunted scythe. It was animated and resisted even our most powerful physical attacks -- nor could it be injured by positive energy. We have left it where we found it, and will challenge it again in the future when our tools or skills have increased.

"Also, there were some strange runes marking one area of the prison wall, but we could make no sense of them beyond a suspicion that they are part of a ritual."

When Blackheath learns of the new vandalism at the memorial statue he becomes concerned.

"The villagers already associate us with the vandalism. Maybe we should try to find out who the real culprit is. It seems like he is spelling out Vesiana, the name of the warden's wife. Maybe it is a message -- or the vandal has some information we can use to solve this mystery."

Before you try to sell the brass planchette, have you tried to use it to contact spirits within the prison? It is something I meant to do with our table but never got a chance.

Faria quirks an eyebrow at Blackheath's words. "We had better luck inside. We found similar haunts, but the syphons we extracts from the false tomb have worked beautifully on them. We were actually discussing going to ask Grimburrow if he could craft more of them, if you'd care to come along?"

Since we're combining tables... Table 1 used 3 haunt siphons; table 2 used 0 haunt siphons. So, instead of only one remaining, let's say you have two unused haunt siphons. (Still only a grand total of 4 siphons.)

The acolytes greet you. They're still super busy. But, your presence means that Father Grimburrow's attention isn't on them. (He's so strict!) So they're grateful to see you.

"Oh, Sister Faria! Are you here to see Father Grimburrow again? We'll take you to him right away," one of them offers before Faria can even respond.

At Grimburrow's office, the elderly man raises an eyebrow, "There seem ta be more o' ye every time I look up! What do ye want?"

Given that two of you are Pharasmins and one of you is a paladin, you give him all your information. Grimburrow listens silently. (Shocking!) He nods his head slowly as you tell your tales.

"Why didn't ye come ta see me sooner?" he says, ignoring the fact that you did go to him for help sooner.

He examines one of your two remaining haunt siphons: "Oh, this is clever. Lorrimor was a sharp man! A few of my acolytes have formal arcane training. I think we could duplicate these." He nods.

The church will have to expend resources on research and raw materials to make haunt siphons. As a non-profit entity, they will expect you to compensate them. They won't make a profit--especially since they hate undead--but you'll have to pay 400 GP per siphon. Don't worry; you're about to level up (and get GP) after you do one or two more things.

Since this is PFS, and a good chunk of the party has close ties to either the church or to Kendra Lorrimor, I'm treating Grimburrow and Kendra as your "Venture Captains" for this part of the adventure path.

I've rebuilt Blackheath slightly so he can also fill the rogue-spot better. His Disable Device is +8, so when I can make another 50gp, I can get him masterwork thieves tools and that would put him at 30 on a take 20 check.
