Blackheath fires on a stirge...
Comp. longbow + arcane strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7

![]() |

Faria's lips purse in irritation as she sees the stirges. Knowing first-hand how dangerous a foe they can be, she summons another icy bolt and fires it at the nearest creature.
Icicle: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Yay! Low rolls return! :p

![]() |

attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
my bad I just checked the map. I'll just forgo the surprise round action and if I can use that roll for an attack when they get within 5' of me. If not I don't have a problem with rolling again

![]() |

You can also do a partial charge in a surprise round action. Grog smashes one of the stirges to bits. Most of his companions... flail about a bit. Gravleon lightly singes one enemy.
Faria Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Gravleon Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Grog Init: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Sharien Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Stirge Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Stirge Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Blackheath is up first, then Sharien, then a stirge.

![]() |

Blackheath shoots again...
Longbow + arcane strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11

![]() |

These are clearly champion stirges, since they're so hard to hit! ;-P
One of the stirges wants to eat: Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23. Its barbed legs wrap around one of Grog's muscular arms, and it stabs its proboscis into the half-orc's flesh. The ranger can feel the creature sucking out his lifeblood. 1d100 ⇒ 60 (Grog has 1 point of CON damage. He does NOT contact filth fever, this round.)
Sharien Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Stirge Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Faria Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Stirge Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Grog Init: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Gravleon Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Faria is up!

![]() |

Grog's AoO: Smash: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18, damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Grog smashes the previous stirge that had attached itself to him. That attack never happened.
The next stirge lands on Grog, since the ranger doesn't habve combat reflexes. Using the previous rolls that never happened, Grog still suffers at 1 point of CON damage.
Faria, Grog, and Gravleon are up.

[dice=Channel neg{since I am neutral I can }]1d6+1I have selective channel so it wont effect us
Unless you have versatile channeling (which is not available in core) you can only do one type of channeling. Either Positive or Negative, not both. Also, since you worship Sarenrae, a neutral good deity, you cannot channel negative energy. Sorry.

ok my bad deleted
Gravleon moves to grog and slashes at the bug like thing on his arm attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
edit
Crit conform: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 I never crit

Faria stays her hand, seeing that Grog and Gravleon appear to have things under control. "This place is foul to the core. We'll be doing the people of this region a service to rid them of this sore upon the land."

![]() |

OK. Why don't we head to area T4?
Row upon row of ten-foot-square prison cells line the walls, each separated from the passing hallway by a series of iron bars fitted with a narrow iron door. Skeletons slump in many of the cells, the bones scattered where they lie and coated with a mixed layer of ancient ashes and fresh mold.
Blackheath Perc: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Faria Perc: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Gravleon Perc: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Grog Perc: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Sharien Perc: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Blackheath, Gravleon, and Grog all notice the faint sound of a mournful flute music and the eerie flapping of tiny leathery wings.

![]() |

"Music and stirges -- time to pay the Piper."
Upon hearing the mournful tune, Blackheath begins his own bardic countersong...
Perform: countersong: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Not sure if it will do anything but if there is any musical effect we are better safe than sorry. I'll keep it up as long as I hear music. Bard song round 1 of 7.

![]() |

"it must be the Piper again..."

![]() |

"The Piper? Don't we have an item that we think we can use against him?" Faria remembers the room with the five cursed items that could be used against the five powerful presences of the former prisoners. She was somewhat reluctant to use the items, but every little bit helped.

![]() |

"yes Faria, but at the moment we cant even handle them, it might be best for us to leave and come back when we can..."

![]() |

I'd be willing to hit it with everything we've got and then run.

![]() |

Since at least one person wants to stay:
Suddenly, everyone can hear the music. Even the deputy outside.
Blackheath Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Faria Will Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Gravleon Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Grog Will Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Sharien Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Everyone except Sharien is shaken. Furthermore, one random person has an additional effect.
Who: 1d5 ⇒ 1
Blackheath Additional Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The bard suddenly has a vision of the ghostly Piper himself as he approaches, attended by a flock of stirges. Nobody else can see this. Mechanically, Blackheath is affected as though with a Hold Person spell.
Blackheath Yet Another Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Blackheath weeps as blood momentarily flows from a dozen tiny punctures that spontaneously open along his arms and neck. No damage. No mechanical effect. Blackheath is still held.
____________________________________________________________
Since at least one person wants to leave:
The party decides to run. Grog physically hauls the bard the heck outta there!

![]() |

Faria begins to shake as the music continues, the haunting dirge getting into her head. All thoughts of staying in the area to confront the Piper or whatever might manifest quickly evaporate as everyone shuffles towards the exit, Blackheath having to be dragged.
Once they are on the first floor, Faria nods, attempting to calm down. "Let us return to town for some rest and research as you suggested, Gravleon."

![]() |

Just to confirm for next time, I want to make sure that my bard countersong did not work against the musical effect?

![]() |

"A villager will be dead tonight, if one isn't already, if we allow this to happen again. Even if defeating the prison were to stop this, we cannot cleanse the prison in a day. And the prison was not what Petros asked us to deal with. I think we need to investigate and check on all the villagers while looking for possible cultists and then we can try an ambush here tonight."
"But we really need to find the vandal before he gets here because we are out of time. It looks like he slaughters whatever he uses elsewhere (no body). So by the time he reaches the monument tonight, someone will already be dead."

Sharien Oakfoot |

"I agree. While the blood is not on our hands, we have done little to stop these murders so far, it would seem. We must prepare more thoroughly and stop this haunting at its source quickly."

![]() |

Faria sighs, nodding to Blackheath and Sharien's words. She had been hoping to rest and possibly grieve for Poshment, but it seemed there would be no lull. He was with the Lady of Graves now, so if anything she should envy him, anyway.
"Who would we ask for help on determining which villagers might be associated with The Whispering Way? Most of the people of Ravengro are distrustful of us, and I would think that Kendra would have voiced her suspicions if she had any."

![]() |

"Perhaps we can check in with each house in the village to see if everyone is accounted for and advise them to be on their guard and while doing so, we might look for clues or any suspicious behavior."

![]() |

Oh ,now we will worry abot the vandal but when I said it was a problem Noooooo lets dddooo tthhiisss, Sarenrea help me Gravleon thought to himself "ok then now can we try to get this vandal Yeess good, so your awake now blackheath, Sharien no the blood is not on our hands but some of the towns folk will have no issue blaming the new stangers...us for this, if only to protect themselves.."
Gravleon turns to Faria "yes most of the people here already don't like us and we do need to take care of this vandal before we try and take that piper as it nearly done in blackheath in a moment"

![]() |

A fine dark brow arched as the priestess smirked. "I think you might be overreacting a bit, Gravleon. We ran out in a panic before anything really happened."
Faria shrugged. "I would say that Harrowstone is where we should focus our efforts, but if we are to remain in town to stop these vandalisms, we might as well investigate these other rumors we have heard."
GM, could we get an updated list of in-town quests for convenience? Thanks! Maybe we could add a tab for them in our loot list for easy reference?

![]() |

Is it possible to go house-to-house and check on the villagers while surreptitiously looking for clues?

![]() |

With it being evening, Faria heads to Kendra Lorrimor's estate for a bite to eat. She tells the woman of Poshment's demise, holding back her tears as she speaks of the terrible phantasms in the structure.
After eating, she turns to her companions. "Should we just go camp by the monument as was suggested earlier? It's already nightfall."

![]() |

"I'll hide at the monument so that I can keep an eye on it. I have low-light vision so if the vandal can't see in the dark, then I should be able to spot him by whatever light he uses. The rest of the group can hide some distance away and I will use a Message spell to let you know if I see anything. If anyone can put an alarm spell on the momnument that might help too."
So the rest of the group should conceal themselves far enough away that he won't see them, but close enough that we can still maintain the message spell.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

![]() |

sorry have been really busy al day and I have only had time to update my recruitment for my campaign, im ready sorry that I cant get a rp post up right now...

![]() |

We have just arrived back in town and it is evening. The party has agreed that the monument is a steadily worsening problem, and has agreed to ambush whoever is defacing it. Blackheath has proposed that, being the sneaky one of the bunch, he should watch the monument from cover. When he sees someone, he casts a 'message' spell, signaling us to come to his aid and confront the interloper.
Faria nods her assent to Blackheath's plan. "What is the range on your spell?"
