Dark Schnyder |
Since the group is gathering around the door to the Storeroom 3, Dark joins them to proceed onward.
Yu Khan |
"This is all very interesting, I'm sure, looking a putrid corpses and such. But, in honor of the lost flail, how about a dirge?"
Yu gets out his musical instrument and begins to play a slow funeral dirge.
Perform(Wind): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Not his best performance, but it will have to do.
Graktul |
Just wondering do we want to go through both doors to Storeroom 3 at the same time to have a better flanking chance on any opponents?
GM Gustavef |
The corpse is one of the watchmen. The mold on the body is, peculiar.
Yu Dungeon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Yu realizes that it isn't normal cavern mold that one would find in a place like this. It is..."alien." From some outer plane most likely.
Opening the door to the Storeroom:
This musty storeroom is filled with boxes and crates stacked in disorganized piles, some only a few boxes high and others reaching all the way to the ceiling. Small puddles stand on the floor, and the occasional drip of water echoes in the darkness.
This room is filled with boxes and crates, in some cases stacked to the ceiling. A single unlit oil lamp hangs from a bracket to the right of the northern door. A wooden sign on a door in the western wall is marked “Scriptorium— Quiet Please.” Concealed behind a stack of cartons to the south is another door, labeled with a small sign reading “Archives—Private.”
In the middle of the room is a hideous otherworldly plant that has the aura of death around it. It slowly lurches towards your living warmth.
Oh look a mindless plant! Knowledge (nature)

Yu Khan |
Know(Nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Yu moves into the room, out of the way, weapon in hand ready to defend himself. Once again he throw several comedic insults at the creature hoping to throw it off balance and not be as effective in combat. However, given his success rate in this place already, it doesn't seem like you can insult a plant.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza dashes into the room, placing herself between Yu and the plant. She winds up and delivers a punch to it's... part nearest where a head would be on a man!
Note: she can move into position via the route that doesn't provoke.

The creeper's tendril lashes out at Graktul, the first person walking though the door.
Creeper Tendril Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
However the barbarian nimbly dodges the AoO of the plant.
Although easy to hit, the long tendril distracted Graktul enough to miss.
Kenza steps in seeing that Yu will move in and provides cover. She attempts to strike but does not connect with the plant.
Grey and Lucy take up their positions and both connect with the plan. Unlike previous opponents, this does not seems to have any damage resistance. And all the damage goes though.
Even though it is cut up significantly it still has some life left to it.
Dark and Neerdwyl can still act before it goes again.

Yu Khan |
Seeing how useless his tirade of jokes and insults is to the plant, Yu moves up into a flanking position to attempt to damage the plant with a quick thrust and parry.

Grey steps up, but just misses the plant as it shuffles at the last moment, however right in to Lucy's tusk. Yu steps up and in a flurry of a trained chef, juliennes the creeper in to elegant strips.
The plant is dispatched.
Graktul |
What is wrong with this place fighting statues, plants, and skeletons. At least if you hit them enough they stop moving will take the small concessions.
Grak turns to examine the room around before moving to the next door if nothing catches his eye.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Yu Khan |
"What, are you expecting something, well, more," Yu asks as he brandishes his weapon with a sweet little flurry?
GM Gustavef |
The door to the archives is behind a few boxes that block its opening. They can easily be moved. However the door itself is slightly cold to the touch and seems stuck.
This storeroom seems to be a collection of mundane items from various regions and times.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza searches to storeroom for dangers. Finding nothing else, she moves on and clears the path to the door.
"It's cold," she tells the others. "And stuck. Should I force it?"
Kenza stands ready to try to muscle the door open at her superiors' command.
Yu Khan |
"Force it? No. Let me cast a spell on it first."
Yu walks over to the door where Kenza steps aside and casts OPEN on it.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza steps aside, to let Yu through.
Grey Stoneside |
Grey pokes at the plant with his sword a few times before growing bored, before turning his attention to Yu and Kenza.
"Why not just have Graktul run thru it? I think he was a little bored beating lettuce with his morningstar anyways."
Graktul |
Would be more than happy to if your spell doesn't work though either way let me lead through the door.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza nods respectfully at Graktul, accepting his words as an order.
Kenza will go through second.
GM Gustavef |
The door is too stuck for the simple cantrip to work. More force would be needed. Strength Check
Dark Schnyder |
Dark looks down at the strange plant creature and examines it while the others deal with the stuck door.
Graktul |
Graktul steps forward with a semi-crazy smile before slamming a foot into the door on the far side of the hinges.
I have the gate crasher trait from half-orc and assuming smashing a door counts as breaking an object.
Smash: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 2 = 22

This chamber contains several tall wooden bookshelves reaching to the ceiling, almost bursting with the weight of books and scrolls filling the shelves. The shelves and their contents are encrusted with thick growths of brightly colored fungus and glistening mold. Many tomes have fallen from the shelves, their open pages forming a base for more fungi and large mushrooms which carpet the floor. The air here is damp and close, and several of the fungal growths pulse with an eerie purple light that dimly lights the room.
The westernmost door in the north wall has a sign reading “Scriptorium—Quiet Please.” Two large iron candelabra, full of unlit candles, hang from the vaulted ceiling. Several varieties of the fungi glow dimly with pulsing purple bioluminescence, providing the room with shadowy illumination.
On the shelf some of the fungus radiates with a cold otherworldly light Brown hexagon
The thick mat of fungus bound by brown dashed line -- difficult terrain covers much of this part of the room. And the chill air is noticeable but not affecting you yet.
Grakul hears in his head in perfect Orcish: "Do fingernails sing?" in a dreamy questioning voice.
Graktul |
Huh...Who is there...And why would fingernails sing.
Searches for anyone in the room while moving out of the fungus to look on the shelves in the other part of the room.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza looks into the room. At the sight of all the strange mold and fungus, she pulls one of her loose scarves up over her nose and mouth to keep the spores from getting inside her. Though meant to keep the sand out in a sandstorm, she hoped it would stop the spores just as well.
At hearing Graktul speak gibberish she turns to Yu. "Can you identify it?" she asks with concern.
Dark Schnyder |
Dark comes to stand beside Kenza. Not liking the sign of all the mold in the other room, Dark begins to chant a spell.
Cast Shield on himself. +4 AC.
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
Ne'erduwyl and Pinch look closely at the brown fungus.
Knowledge Nature Neerduwyl: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Knowledge Nature Pinch: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
I think that Knowledge Roll for Pinch should have been at +5. Skills rules for familiars are a little confusing.
Sensing something odd with Graktul, she grants him a bit of guidance.
+1 on any saving throw or attack roll in the next minute.
Ne'erduwyl will grant the rest of the party guidance as quickly as she can before something *bad* happens.
Graktul |
Just curious if Knowledge (Planes) would not be applicable here also with a portal being open potentially.
GM Gustavef |
Neerduwyl quickly realizes that the mold is not from Gloraion
Yu does not detect any specific magic. Still the general low background of the Blakros museum.
Yu Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Yu Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Neerduwyl Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Neerduwyl Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
However the mold is very similar to Brown Mold. The central mass brown hex radiates extreme fatiguing cold (non-lethal cold damage). Yu recalls from his studies about such molds from the far planet Aucturn. It would require cold to eliminate and not fire. Fire and heat would cause it to grow.
Both Yu and Neerduwyl are able to confirm that the rest of the mold area is difficult to move though, but otherwise safe.
Graktul notices idden beneath a thick layer of fungus, a circular, 10-foot diameter shaft drops 40 feet from the archives to the level below. A narrow flight of stone steps spirals down along the shaft’s circumference, coated with slime and mold. The walls are slippery as well, and can be climbed.
In corner marked by red diamond Graktul also notices a discarded backpack.
While looking around everyone hears in their heads, in their native language. "How do elves sporulate?"
Yu Khan |
"Well, the easiest way to destroy this mold is with cold. Counter intuitive, I know, but its the only way. Heat will only make it spread. Anyone have any ideas, or we just want to avoid it?"
Dark Schnyder |
"I have my ray of frost spell that I can cast indefinitely, but that will be slow. But the thing seems to want to talk to us. Lets see if we talk to it."
Dark doesn't get any closer but thinks and speaks, "They don't. Why are you here?"
GM Gustavef |
Dark does not seem to get any response. The "thoughts" seem to be just random dreaming fragments. Mostly background noise from whatever lies below.
"In the kingdom of fish, why a spade?"
Graktul |
Good thing I didn't have Grak try to burn out the mold was debating grabbing that unlit oil lamp and attempting that before that last post.
Graktul walks over to the backpack and starts going through it to attempt to determine whose it was along with anything worth taking from it.
There is a staircase under the mold going down guess that is where we are going to have to go next.
Can we tell yet if the mold goes down the staircase (based on what we can see without entering the shaft) or is it only on this floor?
Kenza Bloodborn |
"Does this mold typically speak?" Kenza asks. "Or is that something else?"
"The mold is a danger to anyone passing through, yes? And the inhabitants of the museum?" she confirms with the others. "I would like to wait as you destroy it, Dark. As long as it takes."
I think we should let Dark blast it with ray of frost until it's destroyed, then move on down the stairs.
GM Gustavef |
There is mold on the stairs down, and it looks like it would require some careful walking to descend.
Graktul |
Definitely need to destroy it before moving on and wonder what is in this backpack over here.
Graktul goes through the other door that was near the dead body to reach the backpack instead of going any further into the mold.
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
"Fools!" shouts Ne'erduwyl, flying into an unexpected rage. "We weren't hired as janitors, we're here to find Blakros. We'll freeze before Dark can dispose of that thing. Let's get out of this room and find out what happened to the girl. They can hire someone else to clean mold."
Ne'erduwyl escapes the cold effect by staying in the current room, listening for sounds of the others coming to their senses and heading down the stairs.
