Graktul |
After the head of the flail passes through the owlbear Graktul looks dejectedly at the remains.
That was over too soon not even worth a notch on the handle much less a trophy. Hopefully there will be more worthy objects to smash moving forward.
Joins Dark in looking around the room hoping to find something worthwhile.

Kenza stands, stretches, and pulls out a potion from her belt pouch. She drinks it, then examines the room to help in the search.
Drinking a potion of mage armour.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Grey Stoneside |
Grey plants his sword to give the room the most advantageous light. However, rather than helping in the search of the room he begins wrestling with an energetic Lucy in the middle of the room.
"Ha! Too slow! I have notice a few extra pounds around the hips, must be slowing you down." says Grey taunting the boar.
Lucy inspired by the taunt manages to get a tusk around the hunters ankle, sending Grey into the air before unceremoniously falling to the ground. Once on the ground Lucy pounces on the hunter covering the man's face with copious amounts of saliva.
"You win! You win! Stop! Just Stop!" surrenders Grey, doing his best to protect his face from the boars sobering tongue.

Nothing eles of note is in this store room
Feel free to position yourself by the door to storeroom 2
Dark Schnyder |
Finding nothing of important in the storeroom, Dark makes his way to the door for Storeroom 2. Waiting for the others to join him, he opens the door to see what is beyond.
Yu Khan |
Yu moves into position next to the other door, behind the first line of fighters. He finally unsheathes his rapier for his main hand, and keeps his offhand free for any spells that might need to be cast.
GM Gustavef |
You position yourself to open the door.

The doors open onto a vast hall draped in shadowy cobwebs and filled with haphazardly placed statues. The air is heavy with dust. Any noise echoes hollowly among the figures, some swathed in thick coverings like misshapen beasts, others bare and uncovered, all coated in a thick layer of dust. Leering visages loom out of the darkness, fearsome wooden and stone faces carved in grimaces and scowls.
This room has a 20-foot-high ceiling and holds a dazzling collection of sculptures, effigies, and statues of different sizes, some draped in sheets, others coated with a thick layer of dust. Unlit oil lamps hang from brackets in the center of each wall. A wooden sign on a door in the southern (left of map) wall reads “Scriptorium—Quiet Please.”
Needuwly's paranoia notices that one of the status is also animated by the pervasive dark energy of the place.

Yu Khan |
Know(Arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Yu moves forward, Rapier in hand, ready to aid as needed. Once again he attempts some bad insults and puns trying to throw off the abilities and aim of the pillar.
Satire -1 again, if this thing has a brain....
Dark Schnyder |
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

GM Gustavef |
Yu recognizes the statue as a type of Caryatid Columns, though not as big. Aside from being constructs, (and immune to mind effects) these creatures can break weapons that strike them.
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Ne'erduwyl wiggles her nose, and places a fortune hex on Graktul, granting him the ability to roll a d20 twice this round.
"Crush it, Graktul", she cackles.
Yu Khan |
"Watch it! It can break weapons!"
WOW, another mindless enemy........ Also, WOW, weapon breaking at low tier..... Season 1 stuff is deadly.....
Graktul |
Welp little worried rushing especially with the weapon breaking but lets go a little berserk.
Graktul rushes forward swinging his flail to get a little momentum up roaring out a wordless challenge. Upon hearing Yu's comments the red haze descends on Graktul thinking about the statue daring to break his flail.
Free action enters rage
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Fortune Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Well taking the first roll though thankfully the damage will be a good hit.
Not sure if a change to the line at the top would read right but have 16 hp and 15 AC while in rage.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza moved into the room cautiously, examining the statues with concern. At Ne'erduwyl's warning she flies into action, rushing to ward the statue with her fist raised, Fortunately, Yu Khan gives them warning that the creature can shatter weapons. Deciding she'd rather not break her fist Kenza stops in her tracks, placing herself between her companions and the statue and draws her sling.
Moving in between the statue and her companions, drawing her sling.
GM Gustavef |
Yu's knowledge of these types of creatures, "They shatter manufactured weapons. Something about resonating crystalline structure. Natural attacks are not affected."
Dark Schnyder's ray goes wide.
Garkul's flail smash in to the statue, taking out a big chunk of the rock. However not all of his might did damage
Shatter weapon: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
Heavy flail is a two-handed hafted weapon. Hardness 5 HP 10. Garkul's flail has taken 4 hp damage and now has the broken condition
Broken: attacks made with the item suffer a –2 penalty on attack and damage rolls.
The guardian turns its attention on to Garkul
Guardian Sword Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
But misses the raging orc.
Everyone is up again
Yu Khan |
Serious question. Are you sure at low level that they actually break weapons? I ask because I GM'd 9-04 and ran into them. At low tier their weapon break ability was off. Just making sure here, it seems pretty harsh for low tier/level group.
Standing still, knowing that Satire won't work, nor will he want to damage or break his weapon, Yu drops his rapier and pulls out his sling and bullet, and fires it at the enemy.
Sling: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 1 - 4 = 11
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Dark Schnyder |
Dark begins to chant as a arrow of energy appears and shoots true at the Guardian, hitting it squarely.
Magic Missile +1 HotS: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
Neerduwyl taps her foot and places a fortune hex on Lucy, hoping her tusk be true.
Lucy's natural attacks won't be affected, Gray. She can roll her attack roll twice this round.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza loads and fires her sling.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 4 = 18 Includes penalty for firing into melee.

Extra Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
GM Gustavef |
Yu's stone flies wide of the target.
Grey swings, but not ready to risk his sword yet misses completely.
Lucy though solidly gores a chunk out of the statue, but not enough to take it down yet.
Kenza's stone hits, but shatters harmlessly
Dark Schynder's magic missiles fizzle as they hit the statue. Its immunity to magic prevents them from affecting the creature.

Shatter Weapon: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
Grakul's Rage shatters the Statute, causing a small crack on his Flail. It is still serviceable, but a bit off balance
Graktul |
Sorry about that Gustavef though sadly think that there wasn't a crit there due to broken condition will remove the 2nd round of rage and going to need a breather for Grak. Also, will post a little more if I get a break at work.
Yu Khan |
"Wow, ok, anyone hurt?" Yu asks as he picks up his rapier, ready for whatever may come.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Yu takes his time to get a very good look around the room.
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
"I wonder what the dark energy is that inhabits this place," says Ne'erduwyl, scanning the room alongside Pinch, "there was an eccentric wizard who first lived in the museum."
Ne'erduwyl also detects magic.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 Forgot to add Familiar Alertness feat to previous rolls. Note correct Perception score
Pinch Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
GM Gustavef |

Your right, but this combat gets very tedious, between the DR, SR, and weapon breakage. Just to move things along and that the flail was just a normal one then your flail is now useless, unless Neerduwyl has mending ready for today, in which case it will just be broken. (mending takes 10 minutes per casting)
Dark Schnyder |
Dark goes to investigate the statue. "A very tough guard we ran into. I wonder if this was already here or is it involved with what is going on down here."
Dark looks at the others, "I'm getting a distinct impression that they don't want us here."
While the others search the room, Dark heads to the door he assumes leads to Storeroom 3.
Yu Khan |
"Of course they don't want us here," Yu states rather wryly as he gets behind Dark, ready for the next room.
GM Gustavef |
While the others search the room, Dark heads to the door he assumes leads to Storeroom 3.
A wooden sign on a door in the southern (left of map) wall reads “Scriptorium—Quiet Please.”
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza stows her sling and looks around the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Then she moves along with the others, ready to protect them from whatever dangers might lay in wait in the dreaded... scriptorium!
Ready to move on when the others are.
GM Gustavef |
The destroyed statue has fist-size opal that is worth some money. But much like the other storeroom, many things of historical or cultural significance, that would be of interest to specific people, such as a statue of the archdevil Mephistopheles and a collection of black vellum scrolls sealed with crimson wax and molten silver. But otherwise useless to the average collector.
Those would have been items for the Season 1 faction quests
Dark Schnyder |
Dark opens the door to the Scriptorium. "Lets see what waits for us in there."
GM Gustavef |
The door opens easily to this room:
Perception Dark Schnyder: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Perception Neerduwyl: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Perception Graktul: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Perception Grey Stoneside: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
This dark, vaulted chamber serves as a scriptorium, where texts from the archives next door may be read or copied at leisure. Bare wooden shelves, empty except for some extra writing supplies (sheets of parchment, bottles of ink, and quills), line the eastern wall, and three desks with high stools stand in the center of the room between six columns. A small sign on the southern (left) door reads “Archives—Private” and a sign on the eastern (bottom) door reads “Storeroom 3”
A body lies slumped in the southwestern corner, still clutching a club. Its legs have been eaten away by acid, and the corpse is already showing signs of putrefaction, with patches of mold on the skin. A broken lantern lies next to the body, its oil spilled on the floor.
The two northern desks each contain small, empty candelabra, two bottles of dried ink, and old quill pens. The southern desk has been used more recently—the candelabrum holds the stubs of half-burnt candles, the ink bottles are still wet, and fresh ink stains the quill pens. A handful of books and scrolls, treatises on the solar system and the empty space beyond, lie open on the desk. Underlined passages and marginalia written in Osiriani refer to the “The Dark Tapestry” and the “Dominions of the Black,” as well as something called the “Gate of Beyond,” a long-lost portal to these otherworldly realms. References to an ancient aberrant sorcerer named Kubburum Ishmedagan and the mad wizard Ralzeros the Overwatched are also highlighted.
Neerduwyl turns up a sheet of parchment that fell beneath the desk and was forgotten. Written in Osiriani, it contains some of Imrizade’s notes as well as sketches and diagrams of the Gate of Beyond and the brain canister she found in Osirion.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza follows Dark into the Scriptorium. At the sight of the dead man she's immediately on guard, holding out her arms defensively as she examines the room. Finding nothing amiss, Kenza turns her attention to the dead man.
"Acid... mold... What happened to this man?" She looks to her companions. "Are any of you trained healers?"
Kenza finds she's useless with the corpse, so she stands and leaves it to other, more knowledgable members of her team.
Finding the paperwork is in Osiriani, she raises an eyebrow. "I can read this." she says in surprise. And she does, reading aloud the information underlined from the strange books, the notes in the margins, the book titles, and the references to Kubburum Ishmedagan and the mad wizard Ralzeros the Overwatched.
If Neerduwyl can't read Osiriani, Kenza reads the paper she found aloud to her, otherwise she leaves it in the hands of the more knowledgable woman and Pinch.
GM Gustavef |
Kenza parses the note:
The notes detail how the brain canister is the key to opening the portal, how it can be attached to the Gate, and the revelation that destroying the cylinder while it is attached to the Gate will demolish the portal as well.
Dark Schnyder |
Entering the room, standing next to Kenza, he listens to her as she reads the notes out loud. "Looks like we might know what has happened here or at least a strong idea. Our explorer opened this Gate of Beyond and possibly something came through to caused all these problems. If this is correct, I suggest the first target we should go for is the 'brain canister' to end the threat of the Portal. Even if it means destroying the Portal."
Neerduwyl Nathvallar |
Ne'erduwyl peers sadly at Graktul's flail, "skjen brawl klin flail, jika klne shenevlam srne. Amal shufar, at rrug"
Graktul |
Going back in time did not have much time before now to post sadly.
As the rage fades Grak looks dejectedly at his flail.
Guess you get to sit the rest of this one out old friend.
So saying hangs the heavy flail on his back and unlimbers his shield and morningstar.
Well if we run into another of those will be down to a dagger.
Graktul |
Just curious can anyone tell if that is a watchman or the daughter. Assuming the club means watchman but can't tell from here.
Kenza Bloodborn |
Kenza nods respectfully at Dark, ready to follow his orders without question.
Kenza looks to Yu for the answer to Graktul's question.
