We are now able to purchase those rings using our gold, even if we wouldn't normally be able to do based on our Fame or what have you. Alas, we don't just get them for free.

As for the sheet, it is essentially your proof that you really have earned that gold, those XP, those Prestige Points, and (in other scenarios) those boons. If you play with Jajee in person, you should bring a printout of whatever chronicles you have, and if you're playing online you should be able to provide them upon request.
