Well, if I remember correctly from the beginning of the mission, once we exit the Matrix, any injuries sustained or resources spent in the matrix is refunded back to us since we weren't in the 'real world.'

Honorbound Emissaries

Almost correct, Arratoi. You're right about resources spent, but you do lose any SP, HP, or Resolve spent/lost inside. Guess somebody will need some healing! :D

Even though Hudathan and Bugface are standing nearby as they fire their weapons at the 'angelic' Jodain, he is not swift enough to attack them as he did Lynn. Most of the damage from Hudathan's laser blast is swallowed up by the radiant light of his current form, but Jodain has no way to resist Bugface's sonic attack, and the AI construct finally dissolves into a burst of quickly dissolving pixels.

COMBAT OVER!

As Jodain is defeated, the scene is suddenly awash with light, and you find yourselves waking back in the facility where the trapped Starfinders' physical bodies had been kept. Within moments, the Starfinders begin to wake as well, including the former head of the Dataphiles, Historia-6!

Honorbound Emissaries

But wait! There's more!

Just as you are beginning to celebrate your victory, one of the data technicians shouts an alarm!

"We have a jinsul assault team en route to our location! They breached our outer defenses! ETA in...12 seconds!"

The technicians and freed Starfinders quickly evacuate the room, but as he passes you, Historia-6 turns to you and gives you orders. "I'm sorry to do this after you already saved us once, but we need you to stand your ground here against the assault team! Good luck!" With that, the android continues to hustle along out of the room with his companions and the data technicians.

You have two rounds of actions to prepare yourselves for the oncoming jinsul assault team. Go ahead and post actions for both rounds now, and we will jump into initiative after everyone has posted their preparations. What do you do?

Lynn quickly whispers out her idea for a plan against the jinsul assault team: "I'm going to sing out an illusion of a wall with those cute little turret guns. You know, like the ones that pop out of walls and ceilings to protect things? You guys and hide behind the illusion so that when the jinsuls show up, they won't realize that you're actually shooting them through the wall! They might even think its the turrets that are doing it!"

She stays in position and begins to ♫♪ sing quietly ♫♪. Her holographic illusion takes over the ground to the north: The metal floor opens up and a thick steel defensive wall slides up out of the ground to a height of 20ft tall. Its northern surface opens up to reveal stubby turret guns pointed towards the oncoming force of jinsuls!

Once they interact with it, DC16 Will to disbelieve. I've drawn the wall onto the map in pink. For the party, I've explicitly warned you of the illusion, so you should see it as translucent and see-through.

Lynn also pulls out an extra magic missile spell gem while she maintains her illusion. (For round #2)

Due to the nature of Lynn's plan, I'm going to go on a block initiative for this combat as well, effectively acting as anybody who beat the Jinsul's initiative delayed, as it would make sense for you guys to wait until all the targets were in view before the "turrets" open fire. Please let me know if you have any objections to this.
@Huckle, please feel free to post your two rounds of actions prior to the arrival of the assault team and we'll apply it as a retcon.

Three strange, multi-legged creatures come scrabbling around the corner and rush into the facility's central chamber. Arratoi identifies these creatures as jinsul, the original inhabitants of this star system, who have returned to fend off the Starfinders they see as invaders and interlopers in their ancestral home. The creatures possess long, sharp legs that can be used as powerful piercing weapons, as well as an array of eyes all around their bodies that make it impossible to gain an advantage on them by getting in a flank.
The larger variety is a jinsul terminator, while the two slighter ones are warrior-class jinsuls.

The jinsul are too slow to react as the turret batter begins to fire off shots of all varieties at them. In the midst of the gunfire, however, the two warriors leading the charge overhear the singing from behind the wall, as well as the string of ysoki expletives directed toward them. "Sir," says the pinkish jinsul, "The wall is an illusion! There are invaders beyond."

"Confirmed, team leader," says the green warrior jinsul. "We've fallen into a cleverly devised trap!"

"Then return fire, you imbeciles," screeches their larger leader, "Before they blast us into a pulp!"

Hudathan lands one of his shots on the green jinsul warrior, which hisses back at the "wall" with fury. The pink one, however, is not so lucky, as an absolute fusillade of attacks reduce him to a twitching mass of legs and goo.

Both attacks miss badly, though.

With laser blasts and battle cries ringing out from behind the illusory wall, the spell is broken, and both remaining jinsul now see their enemy clearly. The green warrior skitters forward and stabs at Hudathan with his long, sharp leg blades.

Rapid Team Extraction Protocol quickly goes into effect as transport ships arrive picking up any remaining Starfinders on mission.

As more and more jinsul ships enter the Scoured Stars, First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo addresses the Starfinder fleet via all communication devices: “Starfinders, we have already rescued many of our comrades, but we can’t afford to stay here any longer. While our carriers prepare to transition into the Drift, we must ensure that all our transports get back to the carriers. I need all our best starship crews to fight the jinsul ships and buy our fleet some time. The rest of you should help organize a defense of our transports and carriers against jinsul boarding parties. Do not lose heart, Starfinders—there is hope for us if we all work together to get through this!”

Table GMs, all of your current encounters are now ended. Starfinders, you must decide which of these dangerous missions you shall undertake. Remember, we’ll need groups performing both missions if we want to make it out safely. we’ll need to have coverage in space and onboard our ships s the Jinsul will be boarding.

Luwazi Elsebo once again addresses the fleet, “Starfinders, our choices are made. Whether you’re fighting onboard our ships against these invaders or taking the battle to their starships, may luck be on your side. Hold to your selected missions and play to your strengths; we shall make it out of this!”

Table GMs, you can now begin the Part 4 missions.

Honorbound Emissaries

One last decision for you guys: what model starship will you fly? You can choose either the Drake class or the Pegasus class starship. Stats are on Slide 2.
In the meantime, I'll get some rolls out of the way.

GM Rolls:
PC Start: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 5, 2) + 5 = 16
Pink Engineering (Boost Weapons): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Pink Piloting (Slide): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Orange Engineering (Boost Weapons): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Orange Piloting (Slide): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Pink Pilot Initiative: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Orange Pilot Initiative: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

As you pull your ship out of the retreating Starfinder carrier ship, you spot one last transport vessel fleeing for its life back toward you. Two jinsul assault ships have broken off from the convoy around their capital ship to assail the transport, and the Starfinder vessel is badly damaged. The ship makes steady progress toward the carrier, but you know you will need to draw the assault ships off before they destroy the transport.

In this section of the mission, you need to distract or destroy the jinsul assault ships (pink and orange) currently attacking the transport ship (green arrow near the bottom right of the map). The transport ship will move 5 spaces toward the carrier each round. Give the transport the time it needs to get close to the carrier, and you will pass this part of the mission. The jinsul assault ships won't get too close to your carrier and its escort, so that will give you some space.
HAZARD: If your ship is within 8 hexes of the capital ship at the end of a round, the enemy ships unleash a salvo that deals 2d8 damage per tier of your ship.

When the gunnery phase comes around....

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 10 + (2) = 14

Arratoi tries to encourage Huckle Jim's gunnery by saying, "You can do it! You're... uh... errrmm... uh... really good at... uh... pressing that shoot button!!? I guess...?"

And Arratoi fails!!

2d8 damage... per tier? Seems like a fast-track to being blown up. Thankfully 8 hexes is not too far.

I'd vote for the Drake for a Tier 4 ship. It looks like if you can keep the enemy in your forward arc you can have 4 gunners (heavy laser cannon, two coilguns, and the missile launcher between the forward arc and the turret) if there aren't other pressing things to accomplish. Arratoi and Bugface can swap into gunners on rounds where we want to absolutely light something up.

Good thinking Lynn, I second the Drake. In fact, I think I'll start on a gun and move if something needs fixing. Which guns do you guys want to use your boons on? I'd suggest Hud replace the turret coilgun and use it. Jim should probably use the high explosive missiles launcher. I reckon your boon can only work on the heavy laser and I'll start on it. Also, I have versatile weapon focus and I don't remember if that applies to ship weapons.

Honorbound Emissaries

Starship weapons aren't something you gain proficiency with through your class, so no, I don't believe the feat would apply.

I agree, Bugface.

Before lifting off in the Drake, Hudathan calls in a favor and gets a Light Plasma Cannon delivered to the hanger. "I got a great deal on this from a pawn shop owner who owed me a favor. The targeting software is a little old, but I should be able to overcome it." He asks for help from Bugface and Kess, then installs it in the turret.

Well the versatile focus feat gives me the bonus with every weapon I'm proficient in. I'm not disagreeing though, I don't see mention of a proficiency with starship weapons anywhere and ship combat is just different in general so I can see it not applying. I won't use it.

Kess is content with the facing of the ship. "Here we go." She sets the course for the Starfinder Pegasus.

Pilot: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Honorbound Emissaries

Kess slams the Drake's engines into full thrust as the jinsul assault ships seem to ignore her and focus on their target--the transport ship. Both ships easily track alongside the transport, performing synchronized slide maneuvers to keep the vessel in their forward arcs.

GM Rolls:
Pink Science Officer - Scan: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

As Kess brings the ship closer in to engage with the jinsul attackers, an alert activates on screen, showing that the enemy ship has scanned you. They are aware of your presence and know your weaknesses, but they are focusing fire on the transport. Time to bring them down before they can do the same to you!

Hudathan seems to be taking the light weapon, so Huckle mans the Heavy Laser cannon. He fires at the orange ship, since Hudathan will want to fire at the closer one, Huckle rather not destroy it and not give Hudatathan a shot. 12 Hexes away, so -2. Does not factor in any other bonuse I may get from people or the ship. Using the ship's modifier for help. +1 to any three checkss of its choice per round
heavy laser cannon vs orange: 6 - 2 + 1d20 + 1 ⇒ 6 - 2 + (20) + 1 = 25 dmg: 4d8 ⇒ (6, 7, 8, 4) = 25
And what happens on a crit in Starship combat? That orange ship just might be obliterated

Honorbound Emissaries

Unfortunately, Huckle, it's not quite obliterated, but you did just give that guy a very bad day day! Basically, you can score a crit by either rolling a natural 20 or by exceeding certain thresholds of damage on the enemy ship's hull. Each time you do one of those two things, one of the enemy ship's systems starts to go haywire. The system that malfunctions is determined by a d100 roll, which I will do below.
In this case, no matter what facing you hit, you took out the shields on one side of the ship (you mentioned the closer one, which is actually the pink one). After taking out the shields, you still did enough damage to pass one critical threshold in addition to the crit for the natural 20, so I'll roll 2 d100 rolls to figure out what systems you affected.

Critical effect: 1d100 ⇒ 52 Weaopns array glitching - weapons in one random arc take a -2 to attacks
Critical effect: 1d100 ⇒ 78 Engines glitching - all piloting actions take a -2
Arc 1=Forward, 2=Starboard, 3=Aft, 4=Port: 1d4 ⇒ 4 All port arc weapons and turrets take a -2 to attack

I think my post was misunderstood, but I said I didn't want to go after the closer one, but orange since I don't know how much HP they have. Hudathans weapon has a short range, and if I did in fact destroy the closer one, he would be forced to target orange. Anyway, good to know I have two crit effects going on here.
