Shoot, I forgot we had that. We need to use that and pass it on! If we're allowed to use it, we should.

![]() |

I'll be jumping in here for a week, as your GM has some RL concerns that are taking up his time. As I vanish myself late next week, there will be a second change before then. Sorry for the disruption to your regular gaming. But we'll try to keep things moving.

![]() |

Thanks for taking us this for Poblano! Hope RL things calm down soon!!
Aerondor, thanks for taking over during the time you have available!!

![]() |

What determines all these places opening and closings? Is each place set to open and close at a specific time in the real world, or are all the specials tied to each other?

![]() |

The opening and closings depends on how many tables have completed the missions.
In part 1, we have five recon missions available to us. When enough tables have completed a recon mission, then that recon mission becomes closed and a corresponding part 2 evac mission opens up which becomes available for all tables to participate in.
For example, we took on the City of Ancients recon mission and in the end, when we convinced A-1 (steak sauce) to spill the beans, it told us that there are Starfinders trapped on Callion-1. And because enough tables have also completed the City of Ancients recon mission, the corresponding evac mission to Callion-1 'Sands of Oblivion' has now opened up for all tables to participate in. If we take on the Sands of Oblivion mission, then we'll actually travel to Callion-1 and try to track down those Starfinders that A-1 (steak sauce) told us about.
Does this make sense?
I've never played a special at a con before (only through PbP and VTT), but I imagine at a con, where lots and lots of tables are all playing the same special in one big room, we'd get a stronger sense of all the tables as individual starfinder teams going out on those missions and opening up corresponding missions. With the nature of PbP, we're all scattered and not sitting in the same room playing real time, so I think its harder to get that same sense of teamwork spread across dozens of tables all working towards the same goal.

![]() |

Ya, real life you can see other tables declare successes, which drives you forward. And, you literally pass off the aid tokens which leads to more between table interactions. (Some specials even require you to go share information with other tables.)

![]() |

Now does it go by what happened in your tier of the special, or from all the specials? Cause the special was for tier 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6.

![]() |

It goes by all tables, irrespective of tiers. So as soon as x number of tables complete a recon mission, then that mission closes out while the corresponding evac mission opens up for all tables.
Tiers don't play a part in the closing and opening of missions. Tiers will only alter the difficulty of the missions themselves, with the difficulty scaling up for higher tiered tables.

If you could remove me from appearing as a player in this game it would be much appreciated and keep my games list under control.

Ok, this scene is amazing. I love all of the writing and GMing in this special.

GM Mjolbeard |

Hey folks! I'm just getting a few last things sorted out for the upcoming starship combat. I may be a few more hours before we're able to start in earnest, but you guys have done a great job kicking things off by setting up crew positions.
I'm bummed we weren't quite able to finish up that last mission in time, so let's really push to finish this fight in time for the end of the special!

GM Mjolbeard |

This is purely an academic point, but just to follow up on the conversation about whether Versatile Focus would apply to starship weapons, it looks like the answer is indeed no. Here's the breakdown for how your gunnery check is calculated...
Gunnery Check = 1d20 + the gunner’s base attack bonus or the gunner’s ranks in the Piloting skill + the gunner’s Dexterity modifier + bonuses from computer systems + bonuses from the captain and science officers + range penalty
While your ranks in piloting and your Dex modifier do factor into the check for gunnery, the only other bonuses to your check that are mentioned are bonuses from other members of the crew or the starship itself (computer systems, captain, science officer) and any penalty due to range. So things like class skill bonus, bonuses from your race or theme, skill focus, or weapon focus wouldn't have any effect.
And now we know...

![]() |

Yepp. Pretty much nothing special applies to starship combat unless it explicitly says so. They kept it basic to start.

![]() |

Shoot, I just noticed it wasn't Gunnery's turn yet. My bad. I got excited.

GM Mjolbeard |

Hey folks! We're in the final part of the special now, so let's go ahead and get those Boon Rolls!
Roll 1d20 - on a 19 or 20, you win! Please then roll 1d2 to determine which boon you will earn.
For example:
GM Boon Roll (Papa needs a new pair of shoes!): 1d20 ⇒ 19 Woooo!!!
Tell 'em what he wins!: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Well that worked as a really good example! Good luck to all of you!

GM Mjolbeard |

Also, I'll get you the details on that aid token momentarily. I'll say this much--you're gonna want to use it! :D

![]() |

Guess we'll go after the Imperial ship last, after we take care of green and orange and then the minions. What I'm wondering is, if destroying the Imperial ship is optional and if we get some kind of extra boon on our chronicle sheet if we destroy it. Plus I was hoping that if, and that is a pretty big if, we destroy it, the rest of the baddies just surrender or flee.

![]() |

Not a big deal as I'm enjoying Jim's Poe Dameron moment but he may not aware we've been explicitly ordered not to engage the capital ship.

![]() |

I'm saying we might have orders to attack it later on. I did see the post saying don't get within 8 hexes of it, but now I see the post saying don't engage it. However, if Green or Orange is out of our firing range for a round, we may have to take out a few body guards anyway, they have eight, we have five. The post mentions nothing about the body guards...
Edit: Oh, I thought, you were giving Huckle Jim a nickname because of the beard and he had a good mojo going on, so I opened the spoiler. We changed DM's twice, so I missed the fact that our DM is actually called Mjolbeard

![]() |

Can you roll engineering this round? I didn't do it because the engineering phase comes before the gunnery phase so I thought we'd have to wait anyway.

GM Ilmakis |

Hi Guys, I will take over for a few days (until the 24th) while GM Mjolbeard is moving during this time.

GM bigboom |

Since this table has already used the aid token, can you please go ahead and pass it on to another table? That will allow another table to use it while also allowing a new aid token to be passed to this table.
If you're not sure which table to pass it to, then feel free to pass it to my table as my players will be able to use it soon.
It looks like Revvy is ready to pass his token to another table so if you pass yours to my table, then Revvy can pass his to this table, giving your players another aid opportunity. Thank you!

Hey folks!
Thanks so much for sticking it out through the shuffle of GMs you had in the back half of this GameDay! I know Poblano was definitely not happy to leave you guys, but RL reared its ugly head in a big way for him. I and the other back-ups that cycled in for you at various points are all glad to have been able to help, and I'm extremely pleased to be the one to offer you congratulations on completing the special!
Now, as the dust settles a bit, the Venture Team would love to hear your feedback about what you thought went well and what could have gone better. Obviously, the rolling site outages were a major hiccup for the special, but what else do you think could be improved about the experience overall? All of this will be taken into consideration in planning future specials, so let's all be constructive as possible.
You can fill out the survey HERE.
Thanks again for playing so faithfully, folks! I look forward to playing alongside you all again soon!

Thank you Mjolbeard, Ilmakis, Aerondor and Poblano all for making this table happen. It was a great team effort! Special thanks to Mjolbeard who took over most of the heavy lifting once RL hit Poblano.
And of course my thanks to my fellow players! You guys have been awesome!

This table was an excellent example of the great community we have here. Through site outages, rotating GMs and a frenzied schedule, we had a ton of fun and made it happen!
Thanks to all of the GMs for making this a fantastic experience. Especially to Poblano for making the slides (For ALL the GMs!) and Mjolbeard for stepping in and running a solid chunk of our game!

GM Mjolbeard |

Hey folks!
Could you all do me a quick favor, please, and give me just the information below:
PCs SFS #
Faction Boon, if any
I was able to find about half of that information just from scoping out your profiles and the discussion thread, but if you could give that info, it will make sure I have all the correct information so there are no issues with reporting, and will help me get your chronicles together as well (Yes, this is a bribe! ;P).
Thanks!

PCs SFS # 170784-703
Faction Boon Second Seekers LE
I also don't think I did a dayjob roll.
Profession Starship Mechanic: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Thanks again Mjolbeard.

![]() |

SFS# 233690-701
Faction Wayfinders
Day job roll from earlier, for reference:
Day Job Roll: Profession (Idol): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
Thanks again for taking over GMing for us Mjolbeard, especially since you gave it your all with frequent and thorough posting! At the pace that Specials go, I know how challenging that can be :>
Great gaming, everyone else. As always with Specials, I wish it weren't quite so breakneck so we had more time to riff off each others reactions before the scene pushes forwards. Here's to hoping we get to play in something else together soon!
