Ashara points her finger at Lady Riverbane:"It's a good thing you did not flee, betrayer! This way things will be faster for everyone. Now STOP right there and wait for us to deal with your ragtag followers!"
Ashara casts Hold Person on Lady Riverbane. DC16 to avoid being paralyzed on the spot

My apologies, Mykel. I had assumed all critical threats were automatic hits, but rereading that particular line in the rules proves me wrong. Thank you for the refresher!!
I misread the number of pirates here.. so taking some GM fiat to explain that.
As the team advances, four more pirates burst into being from under the brush and drop from the tree canopy to encircle their leader!
Riverbane Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Ashara lets fly a spell to try and control Lady Riverbane, and for a moment it seems like she will be Held in place.. until with a derisive laugh, she casts off the mental intrusion!

Fatham casts a spell of protection before moving in, intent on doing some damage!
Lady Riverbane laughs at you in derision as you advance before falling into a spellcasters trance for a moment. With a few words and a waggle of her fingers, the ground under Fatham and Aleric turns into a slippery mess as grease coats the area. She then draws a wand from her belt.

Pferryn: Your Character sheet lists you at 1d6 sneak. Even without any sneak, you rocked her world but for future reference..
Also just caught a mistake. The Grease spell targeted Mykel and Fatham, not Aleric. Using the roll above, Mykel keeps his feet under him, and Aleric is not prone. However, Mykel, it is a move action to move out of difficult terrain and will require a reflex save DC 13. I will keep you where you are for now, so your P/R can take effect when the pirates charge.
Mykel shows the balance and agility of a cat as he keeps his feet under him while sinking his blade to the hilt in the pirate before him.
Pferryn suddenly pops into sight as a magical snowball the size of an ogres head smashes into Lady Riverbane, ending her delusions of grandeur with an ugly bone crunching splat!
The remaining pirates give cries of dismay but charge forward knowing their lives are forfeit anyway.

Mykel cuts down the fleeing and terrified pirate, while Pferryn lashes out with a scorching ray of fire. The ray burns a very neat hole in the mans chest, leaving him looking about with a suddenly confused look before he falls over backwards, dead.
Looking over the dead and dying, you are able to piece together a bit of loot. Weapons and armor are generic and standard for the area, but Lady Riverbane is a bit better equipped. In addition, you move over to the book she tossed into the mud and find it to be a rare copy of The Memoirs of the Silver Brotherhood, the book you were promised. Unfortunately, the rumored treasure vault seems to have been a smoke screen.
The two pirates you rescued inside the cavern tentatively look out, and when they see Riverbanes pirates lying dead they move towards you with relief and you begin your journey back to the Scrag Fisher.
Two pirates still on board the Scrag Fisher plead ignorance of their captain’s conspiracy and readily offer to bring the Pathfinders back to Deadbridge. Following an uneventful return trip, you meet again with the Black Marquis. The man listens to your tale with great interest and thanks you profusely. However, being the greedy pirate he is, Bazzak refuses to reward you beyond letting you keep what you looted.
“Such is the way of the River Kingdoms,” he declares. “If nothing else, your involvement in this affair helped free the region of a dangerous ettercap menace. Hopefully, that’s worth a quick mention in a Pathfinder Chronicle. No?”
As for Istivil Bosk, he is certainly disappointed by the turn of events but doesn’t hold it against you. He is pleased with the book you were able to claim, and the return journey to Absalom passes uneventfully and restfully.

"All's well that ends well... Even when you go searching for something only to discover it never was there to be found. At least we managed to save two souls from ending as spider chew and gave some villains their comeuppance" Ashara comments seraphically as the ship brings her and her friends back top Absalom.
Thanks for the game everyone!
