Vassago moves into the chamber and twirls his hand, sending a ball of water towards the elemental that just assaulted Sele.

Whoops, I messed up fixing the initiative roster. Now I got it.
Vassago, what kind of damage was that? Bludgeoning?
Sele manages to catch the entity on his not-terribly flammable armor, sparing himself a lot of pain.
The more anthropoid elemental's blaze diminishes dramatically after Vassago's dowsing, but it still stands.

Puppeteering Keera...

The second elemental is quickly snuffed by Kenji's and Alacorta's battery.
Combat over.
That danger defeated, you are free to look around the canyon. The bull-headed statues leer down on the valley while the flame-carved hoodoos rise gracefully far above the canyon floor. The arch at the east end of the canyon has a multitude of faint runes carved on its front.
Being fluent in Ignan, Vassago can tell that most of the glyphs are prayers to Moloch begging for the grace of immolation. Kenji, meanwhile, quickly notices that a few of the more ancient glyphs are written in Kelish, but have been partially rubbed out recently.
We'll say you take 10 on your Perception checks, since you have the time.
You find two perfectly-mummified corpses in a small outcrop near the brass gate and upon them you find four flasks of faintly shimmering clear liquid and four unusually ornate arrows.
Beyond the arch, the red stone hoodoos open up to a massive citadel. The stronghold appears to have two parts: the nearest is a squat, square fortress covered in decaying plaster and topped by an enormous minaret from which a thin plume of smoke escapes. The plaster walls are richly decorated with intricate geometric carvings of dancing flames, and smaller minarets rise from the corners. At the east end of that building, the valley floor drops suddenly and a windowless second structure perches on a plateau beyond, rising gracefully from the void in a tangle of minarets and spires. Even though centuries of sand have scoured away most of the gold leaf that once decorated the structure, the sunlight reflecting off the deep red stone of the citadel makes the entire structure glow like a massive bonfire. A delicate, red, enclosed bridge links the first fortress with the second one beyond. A pair of massive brass doors covered in a flowing decorative script blocks access to the near fortress. Vassago recognizes the script as more formalized versions of the prayers to Moloch you've already seen.
You'll need to make a DC 20 Strength check to open the doors - do you take any special precautions while opening them?
Sele the Thorn |
Sele inspects the findings from the corpses
"May you Milani's peace speed you on to your final resting place." he murmurs

Chyras puts an ear to the door.

Chyras hears nothing but the whistling of the desert wind.
Anyone else want to try anything before/while opening the doors?
Vassago Ilsidore |

Water Shield is up... ummm nothing else I can do. One of the weaknesses of most kineticists :P
Vassago is grateful the combat is short. "Well done! I am pleased this went by much more smoothly than our previous assignment's opening."
At the door, Vassago's language skills come in handy at the door. "More prayers.", he comments, although he notes the securely sealed door.
Before the door is opened, Vassago offers to generate a bit of cooling moisture to stave off the heat for those who need it.
Kenji Nishida |
Before the doors are opened, Kenji approaches Chyras and asks, "You're an arcane caster... is mage armor something you're familiar with? and if so, can you use this wand on me before we open these doors?"
Kenji Nishida |
"Thanks"
He stows the wand in the sash at his belt...
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Moving forward; we'll assume you do whatever it takes to make the Strength check.
Were it not for the omnipresent howl of the desert wind to compete with the sound, the squeak-bordering-on-scream of the great doors being opened once again would scarcely be tolerable. As you walk in, you are hit hard by the heat inside, which is (a bit oddly) even worse than the desert outside. This isn't going to be the most comfortable dungeon-delve, and those of you in armor feel it becoming particularly stifling.
Aside from that, the interior is surprisingly nice. Considering the citadel's age, it has kept quite well; the thick stone walls are still covered with plaster, and the decorations are mostly intact. The entry hall in which you now stand was clearly meant to impress visitors. Many rows of stout pillars, carved to resemble writhing flames, surround the center of the room where a spiral staircase, devoid of rails or walls, leads up to the minaret above. A large bonfire burns in the middle of the staircase, casting normal illumination throughout the room, and the walls are covered in gold-filigree writing, which Vassago recognizes as prayers like the ones outside, preaching surrender to the flame, as well as stylized efreeti faces spaced every 5 feet. Massive obsidian benches line the walls, and a thick layer of desert sand covers the floor and stairs, especially near the entryway. Within them, you see a set of footprints headed up the stairs.
What do you do?
Kenji Nishida |
"Someone obviously went this way and up... and recently.. perhaps we should follow?" Kenji takes a few steps in that direction, hoping the others will agree to go that way.
Sele the Thorn |
Sele will put his armour on now..
"Uhh.. I may to take this off again.... later."
Then he follows Kenji.. "Lead on good sir."
Kenji Nishida |
Seeing Sele at least backs his choice, Kenji starts up the stairs once Sele is armoured and ready to go. He will be careful to step where the previous person placed his footsteps so as to avoid any traps if possible.

As Kenji begins to ascend the stairs, Kenji notices something odd about the footsteps he's following - then he figures it out: They're illusions!
Kenji Nishida |
Kenji pauses and steps back, motioning for the others to stop. "These footprints are tricks.. illusions to befuddle the mind... We are being led astray perhaps? Maybe we should search the ground level more carefully before going upstairs? or perhaps we should avoid where they stepped because of traps?"
Sele the Thorn |
Sele has a good look around to see if he can perceive anything noteworthy

Chyras grabs his light crossbow, and turns to descend.
Down below, he looks at the most prominent objects.

Keera Airbornt |
If you dwant to check it I can go up flying to check if there's traps or something relevant upstairs.
But I also think it's better to check first the lowest floor. The false footprints must have been placed with a purpouse. And taking in account who's dedicated this temple to, we can assume it's a nefarious one.
The she chaks the surroundings, looking for more traps or the observers Chyras suggested to exist.
