Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Heading belowdecks the goblin captains are surprised and pleased to find a stocked hold, full of what appears to be silks and fabrics as well as barrels of pickles, ale, flour and rice, as well as small casks of spices, including salt, pepper and cinnamon. When Whosi is eventually discovered and persuaded below, his keys open the two locked doors, leading into a well stocked larder with smoked meat and the ship's rum stores; and a brig/armory. No one is locked in the brig, and the armory holds mostly long knives and a few cutlass, all rusted and in poor condition. Clearly this crew did not value their weapons highly.
As the goblins spread out, they haul bodies of the former crew up onto the deck. All in all, there are 18 bodies, all in various states of decomposition, all exhibiting the same symptoms of vomiting and bloating.
At this point, I'm going to shift into Time Passes mode. Over the next week, the ship falls into a routine and you have time to settle into your new homes. I'd like each of you to post what you do, divvy up treasure and interact as you see fit. I'll resume narration after a few posts are up. In addition, go ahead and level up to Level Two! Hooray! Feel free to post any questions you have and I'll answer them.

Whosi Blackface |

"well aint that special" he says to the ink "weez pirates; you inta pirating?, I got either a wizzy or a druid fer you, whose your mate?"
Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Whoosi gathers up the stuff and crams what he can in bag; the silver gobby short sword he puts down his back, with the handle by his neck for a little slight of hand later, hehe.
Whoosi goes out to the desk and finds all the captains dispersed; crestfallen; goes back to the cabin and looks around some more; maybe there is a secret panel or some food and drink...
"Argh; I wasnt fast enough, everybody left downstairs; boo," Opens the bag, "sorry inky skull, I wanted to introduce you to the wizzy or druid in a great display of grandy nEzzys, and de other stuff to in front of da tribe to make a show of what good captns we be and had this ginchy speach about whose captns of whats and who follers who."
right now Whoosi has some treasure and waiting for the other capts to come to spread the wealth he has found with some flourish.
Whoosi sets up to stay in this cabin.
Over the course of time he will get some gobs to clean up the weapons; and get some other gobs to start fixin up the ship keeping an eye out for any couple gobs who have some aptitude to be 'prentices Gobs.
Whosi's priorities is getting the ship ready to fight; fixing stuff and dreaming up improvements.
Can I get a list of the ships armaments. What is the condition of the deck plating and outer hull, how barancle infested is the ship? Condition of the masts and such. Is there a forge, there is probably a place for hte ships carpender; what condition is that in.
Whosi also spends a lot of time eating and drinking with Carl and drawing on the ship with charcoal about his "improvements"

Splurg |

going to spend my time healing all of the captains of their various hurts, making water, and examining the various magical items... I know of 3 (sword, something from pouch, and something from chest) here are a bunch of rolls since you can look at an item once a day...

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21Heal Check to determine if I know what caused the dead people... Will cast detect poison on day one on them and all of the food

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

There is a small anvil, suitable for nails and the like which can be set up on deck with a moveable stove to provide for heat. It's not in good condition, but it can be made to function. There is a small bench for the ship's carpenter in the hold, though many of the tools have 'disappeared' since you came aboard. You suspect a thorough search of the goblins might turn most of them up.
Your drawings draw a great deal of notice and not all of it good. Several of the Gullchokers whisper about your drawings stealing their souls...
The skull, assuming Whosi has shared it, seems to have a divination effect on it. Anytime someone new picks it up, it replays its vision: The skull doesn't respond, but the ink on it seems to swirl suddenly and almost hypnotically. You find yourself flying, floating above a series of islands below, clustered together in the shape of an anchor. A voice whispers in your ear. "I am he who conquered the Nemites, who terrfied the sea devils themselves and who found the treasure of the Lost Prince. Hidden away are my riches, in the eye of the needle, where the dragons dwell. Seek them if you dare, but know you seek your death should you fail." As the voice speaks, visions of a great treasure, gold, silver and copper, as well as gems and riches beyond your wildest Goblin dreams display themselves around you. Abruptly the vision stops and the skull is still and you find yourself exactly where you were, standing in the Captain's cabin.
The ring and the dragon statue are more confusing. They radiate faint conjuration magic, but has anyone put the ring on and if so, who put it on first? Best to check with Whosi to see if he did...

Greblak |

Greblak restocks his personal pickle jars from the hold, then saunters up to the cabin again, munching on what you can only hope is an actual pickle.
I is Greblak, I be in charge of burning things. Also being scary!
When Splurg starts identifying things, he waves his wand around What this be?
Also, if no one else has already put on the ring, he tries to scare the others into letting him put it on Ring be magic! Magic burn you! Only Fire Captain be safe to try!
After the excitement of the killing and burning and looting has died down, Greblak starts to realise that he's on a boat. Not wanting to appear scared in front of the crew, he sets up a little nest in the corner of the armoury, and doesn't come up on deck unless he has to.
Over the next week, he sits in his nest and practices burning things and terrifying other goblins.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Buz Halfboot |

Buz assigns some goblins to repair the fore mast, the catapult and some of the other major damage. He then gets some rest in the Captain's cabin, ad spends some time trying for the first time to actually prepare some gunpowder and bullets to replenish his spent ammunition (3 gunpowder doses, 2 bullets and some pellets). Satisfied from his gunsmithing abilities (wether they worked or not), he then decides to call up a meeting with all the Captains, to discuss what should be done with the loot that was gathered and where to go. Ship be gud, scourge of the Seas. Loot we found also gud, but what it is? Then, assuming the other Captains are there, he starts to talk about their destination. We be pirates, and pirates want more loot. Where do we git loot? What ship we rob next? What port do we sack first? Or do we go for hidden treasure? Who here knows of hidden treasures? he asks, hoping that someone else has a clearer idea of what to do.
Profession: Sailor or untrained Knowledge: Geography to know about close ports and locations that could be an easy prey for a group of pirates: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 121d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Whosi Blackface |

Over the next few days; will make repairing the catapult a priority; will blacksmith the joints and replace or reframe parts as needed.
what is the in the ships holds?
if not much; will suggest we find someplace with trees and make some lumber for repairs and collect some rocks for ammo and saplings for ballista bolts.
have the ships searched for tools and any scrap that can be melted down to make ballista bolt warheads. Also; i will need to make some grappling hooks and put them on a coulple ballista bolts; figure we miht want to snag and ship and pull it to us; Also; we needa good tree to replace the main mast so pretty inportant that we stop by some forest.
still waiting for the captain to post that we gather.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Okay, before we go on, did anyone actually get together and divvy up loot? Did anyone put the green ring on? Who put it on first?

Buz Halfboot |

I suppose we did, there must have been a time we were all together at once, so we could have discussed about the loot. I see nothing that Buz wants to keep for himself, so I'm ok with the druid taking the sword and the sorceror taking the wand and the ring. What I'm really interested in is the skull, are you ok if Buz touches it and asks the others about it?
Also, I believe that we have lost Shriga, she hasn't replied in a while. So unless we want to wait a little more for our DOOM Captain to show up again, I suggest we start auditioning for another crew member.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

If no one tried to stop him, Greblak grabbed the ring and tried it on, claiming that only he would be safe from the magics.
Given that no one else stated that they tried it on, it's yours!
"Hmm. Goblins, eh? I've seen worse."
It then curls back up and is still.
Congratulations, you have a construct familiar. Treat him as a familiar with all benefits and powers based on your level. I'll keep track of his actual stats and be aware that he's not exactly pliant, but has his own personality, values and history. To make him do things, you may have to figure out a way to motivate him.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

We'll give Shriga until tomorrow to pipe up. Until then, post anything you want to have done in the week since coming aboard. I'll put up a new post tomorrow.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

I still have all the loot I picked up and am waiting for all the capts to gather and am not giving it out until then.
Are you going to actually do anything about gathering the captains or are you just waiting until they gather on their own? In a week, you're sure to have been together at least once. Stop waiting and get on with it!

Buz Halfboot |

Since Buz already called for a meeting, and since he would eventually know about the skull and the island in a week's time, he ask the other captains to vote between these two options:
- going to the island the skull is talking about,
- sack the nearest port.
About the items, he calls up to the ancient goblin law of "finder's keeper, unless you punch him in the face" and let the loot distribution sort itself.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Over the course of your week of exploration, repair, defilement and wild, reckless goblin hijinx onboard the Accursed, a meeting of the "Captains" is called. It convenes around noon, in the Captains Cabin, as a lunch of gull-foot stew with rat ka-bobs is served.
What say you, Captains?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Guys, I'm going to give you until Friday morning to discuss and divvy up the treasure. If that hasn't occurred, I'm exercising my DM Hammer and pounding the story ahead.

Buz Halfboot |

"Burn is gud for goblins, Fire Capt'n" says Buz. "But treasure is gud for goblin AND pirates! Me votes for going to the island dat skull sayz with the treasure. THEN we go burn village to celebrate. What say you, thar, me fellows mates?"
I vote for going to the island: I will try to figure out how to get there. As for the loot, as I said I don't see anything of interest, but I'll say we give the purse and gems to Whosi, the ring and wand to Gebrlak, and the sword to Splurg, BUT I call dibs to the next magic thingamajing we found.
Also, looks like we definitely lost Shriga, so I suggest we rectruit 1 or 2 new players. Shall we make a new announcement? You want me to take care of it James?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Also, looks like we definitely lost Shriga, so I suggest we rectruit 1 or 2 new players. Shall we make a new announcement? You want me to take care of it James?
Go forth and multiply, Buz!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

A quick Captains' Council is called, and decisions are made. In the process, Whosi makes the crucial mistake of opening the pouch long enough for the green ring to fall out. Greblak graps the rings in greedy fingers and in true Goblin fashion, puts it on before anyone can stop him. The die is cast, and the small drake statue crawls forth from the pouch shortly thereafter, giving Whosi a long hard stare and then flies forth to land on Greblak's shoulder, perching there with a regal pose.
The skull is consulted, the vision recounted and Buz declares the island their destination.
Which does lead to a small problem of having no idea where or how to get to this island.
Goblinish minds are set to the problem. Rum is set to Goblinish mouths as Goblinish minds endure headaches heretoforth unheard of in Goblin circles. Much arguing is had, and in the argument, a scuffle breaks out, which leads to singing, which leads to more fighting, which almost leads to a chorus line. Why? That's the thing about goblins; no one can tell.
The rum leads to sleep, and in the morning a thick fog lays over the sea, making sight farther than one's arms impossible. The Goblin crew is quiet, an ominous sign in good weather, but terribly unsettling in bad. From the crow's nest (which is now a Goblin nest, literally as a small wiry gob named Hulgrug has taken residence up there), a tiny piping voice cries out "There some BIG THING in fog! BIG THING WITH LOTTSA TEETH! ARGHHH!" The goblin's cry ends in a sudden wet chomping sound as the main mast groans and the ship pitches suddenly as something with a great deal of weight lands on the mast to enjoy a meal.
Reminder: you should all be 2nd level. Also, roll initiative!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
From above in the fog comes a shrieking cry, then the ship pitches again as something else adds its weight to the first creature. A series of squawks and clacks come from the fog, then a ripping sound, and the goblins below are showered with little fleshy bits that used to Hulgrug. A flapping sound follows, then a large body hits the deck and scrabbles for purchase.
In the middle of the deck is a large reptilian beast, something wrenched from the primal era, a pteranodon. It looks around, peering through the fog and begins to lurch awkwardly toward the Captain's cabin, its toothy maw open and hungry.

Buz Halfboot |

"DEMON SEAGULL!" shrieks Buz. "Crew, heads up! We gonna choke dis one too! YARRR!" he says, trying to organize some sort of defense against the creature and motivate the pirates.
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
During the first turn, Buz will try to get the rest of the crew to attack the pteranodon (what the hell is a pteranodon doing here by the way) with a Profession: sailor roll.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Whether it works or not, Buz will shot the beast with a single bullet the following turn, spending 1 grit point to target his touch AC if not in close range.
Attack and damage:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 111d8 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
I updated my character to level 2, took average hp die. I will also put up the replacement thread shortly. I will use the specifics you originally posted, by the way do you want the new characters to start at level two?

Greblak |

Greblak will do what he does best, cower in the corner and fling fire at the nearest scary thing.
Elemental ray(ranged touch attack): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Fire damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Greblak laughs as his beam of fire slashes into the bird...lizard....thing.... maybe it will taste good?

Splurg |

Splurg seems to lose his normal cheerful glee for chaos at the site of the 2 monsters...
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 sling
1d3 ⇒ 3
Spots not terribly smart just sees a big bird to eat.. pounced on the nearest pteradon
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14bite
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18claw
1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12claw
1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Whosi Blackface |

I asked them too ever since the scene with the captain showdown; am not gonna drag them by the ear...had a nice plan and stuff; all down the toilet now.

PbPs move slow enough as it is. If you want something to happen, make it happen. Waiting for it to happen will result in the DM moving things along without you.

Pixel Cube |

James, I finally created a recruitment thread, and we have 4 candidates already. I think you should take it from here.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Will do, Buz. Thanks!
Init:
Pteranodon 26
Whosi 17
Buz 14
Splurg 10
Spots 10
Greblak 6
The pteranodon, seeing a variety of tasty morsels to snack upon, has a hard time deciding which to attack 1d5 ⇒ 1. Seeing Whosi stumble out of the Captain's Cabin, it lunges with its long clawed beak and snaps at the startled goblin!
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 4) + 4 = 14
Its beak closes hard on the horrified goblin and tears mercilessly at him.
Once Whosi posts his action, I'll resolve the rest.

Pixel Cube |

No problem James! BTW Whosi's stats are here. It's down at -5!
Buz sticks to his previously declared actions.
