Got the core of my crunch tossed in this profile. The two additional racial traits I think make the most sense right now are:

Fleet of Foot: Between his natural dexterity and the irritatingly frequent chases his quarry lead him on have left him much faster on his feet then the average halfling. (30 ft movement speed instead of 20 ft)
Driven Worker: As a son of a family of brewer's, Flynwrick still has an incredible knack for the making of a variety of fine alcoholic beverages. His own love for alchemy has only refined his skills. (+4 racial bonus to Prof[brewer])

The basics of my background are:

  • Born to a family of merchant brewers. Flynwrick (Flyn) found himself fascinated by the science of his family's trade.
  • He sought, at earliest opportunity, a way to study in greater depth the science behind what his family did by instinct and tradition.
  • Sought to learn at university, but was forced by circumstance and hardship to take up the sword to earn his keep.
  • Grueling years of study and as a mercenary (often as a tough in seedy bars) finally granted him his wish (mastery of the alchemical). It's also where he picked up his knowledge of the seedier side of city living.
  • After graduating, he has traveled and earned his keep as: a travelling herbalist's apprentice, a caravan guard, and most recently as a private detective. His unique set of skills and his wanderlust make the itinerant role perfect for him.

I would appreciate any thoughts you might have, ALLENDM, on particularly appropriate locations for him to hail from. I'm having a bit of a hard time determining where his family would likely originate. If there are any schools of study you might know of, that also would be helpful. One other question I had was in regards to the purchase of additional extract formulas. Should I be buying a scroll and then scribing that? Or would I have much likelihood of finding a wizard or fellow alchemist/investigator to copy extracts from?

I would think he would fit right into the City of Greyhawk. I would think being you are at 6th level it would be feasible that you have happened upon an extract or two via fellow alchemists and wizards. Bear in mind that most magic is in the shadows and not openly used.

Nearly anybody who could be from Greyhawk could also be from the rival city-state of Dyvers.

One of my favorite bits about Dyvers is that nearly everybody involved in violence in the city carrys non-lethal weaponry because the fine for pulling out a sap is so much less than for drawing even a dagger.

Dyvers is.an extremely Lawful Neutral city, where nearly anything is legal if you can afford the license. And nearly any crime can be resolved (legally) if you can pay the fine.

Dyvers, would be a great one for his character as well.

The Exchange

I am looking at Flan and taking totem beast but I need handle animal and want to know what type of companions I can get also Sylas Shadows second application here

All,

I have decided on two more selections:

1) hustonJ - Perri Purrun; Rhenna Human variant Fighter 6.
2) Jovich - Cerilis SilverTree: High Elven Fighter 6
3) Licitus - Thanim, Half Dwarf Cleric of Pelor 6
4) Eric Swanson - Harry, Half Dwarf; Sea Cliffs Sorcerer 6
5) Black Down - Bynoth Phaelzuhr, Human Cleric of Hextor 6.

With two slots left I plan on getting a skills/rogue player and one more player that will best compliment the entire party.

What animal companion do you want?

Got my character sheet all up to date with background, etc. I'll make my crunch look nicer if I'm selected (see some of my other aliases for examples). I'll likely fiddle with my skill selection very slightly, but the gist of it should be there (I'd like to up my Diplomacy a touch). Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Greetings! This is Tazo, and I am finally submitting my proposal for a riverfolk halfling. I played in a Greyhawk game more than a decade ago with a group that still played AD&D, but I'll be the first to admit that I do not have a deep understanding of the lore. As a result, I ended up using the map found in the background material and creating a fictional halfling community that lives on houseboats along one of the rivers (which in turn caused me to create a riverfolk instead of a wagonfolk). I hope you'll tolerate the addition.

I ended up taking a level of Fighter instead of Swashbuckler (mouser) to complement the remaining Rogue levels, which still gives her proficiency with Halfling Rope-Shot. Maja is designed to harass enemies, with Debilitating Injury and Offensive Defense placing penalties on enemy attacks. She's very stealthy and can handle scouting and trap-disabling needs. Hopefully I got the crunch right with the house rules!

Thanks for your consideration.

All,

I have decided on one more player. That leaves one more slot for me to decide on.

1) hustonJ - Perri Purrun; Rhenna Human variant Fighter 6.
2) Jovich - Cerilis SilverTree: High Elven Fighter 6
3) Licitus - Thanim, Half Dwarf Cleric of Pelor 6
4) Eric Swanson - Harry, Half Dwarf; Sea Cliffs Sorcerer 6
5) Black Down - Bynoth Phaelzuhr, Human Cleric of Hextor 6.
6) Edelsmirge - Sylas Shadow, Grey Elf Wizard(expoiter) 6.

The current break down of our party is very solid. This will give us two strong arcane casters with a different set of skills. Two solid fighters and two solid clerics with different skill sets (Healer and Combat/Support). I am going to be looking for a rogue/rogue skill set player as we have a few good ones for our last pick. The mix is very interesting with 2 humans, 2 elves, and 2 half-dwarves. Wasn't planning on that but funny how it worked out for the group.

Quick note to the party. Bear in mind the common human language in this area is KEOISH not COMMON. If you hail from the Great Kingdom/City of Greyhawk/Dyvers region COMMON is the norm. Just an FYI. If your character is from the region make the correction.

If you have not finalized your spellbooks please do so and clean up your character sheets. I will be sending out a note on updating a combat sheet I use once I get it loaded into our folder.

I will have our final pick of the part by the end of the day.

And my halfling rogue/Swashbuckler?

Helikon wrote:

I am looking at Aurora as well as Flynwrick, and Maya. Oddly all three are halfling :)

Quick note. There are no race pantheons so there is no halfling pantheon.

Not a big deal at all but make that correction when you get a moment :)

I guess I will stop working on my second character idea since the first one got selected. Unexpected bonus!

Sylas Shadow wrote:

I really liked Harry and Sylas...and the two characters are very different in make up. I also think there is a need for two arcane casters in this adventure; enough to warrant having both of you.

All,

I have finalized our party and will get our folder set up and by Monday we will be off to the races.

First and foremost I really appreciate all the work everyone put into their characters. For those that didn't get selected, I am truly sorry. If I could I would take everyone...I think most GM's know how that feels. The last slot was the toughest as I was going back and forth between three really good submissions... Hopefully in the future, I get to GM or play side by side with Helikon and Rikash.

Here is the group:

1) hustonJ - Perri Purrun; Rhenna Human variant Fighter 6.
2) Jovich - Cerilis SilverTree: High Elven variant Fighter 6
3) Licitus - Thanim, Half Dwarf Cleric of Pelor 6
4) Eric Swanson - Harry, Half Dwarf; (Sea Cliffs) Sorcerer 6
5) Black Down - Bynoth Phaelzuhr, Human Cleric of Hextor 6.
6) Edelsmirge - Sylas Shadow, Grey Elf Wizard(expoiter) 6.
7) Tazo - Maja Weatherseed , Riverfolk Halfling Rogue/Figter 5/1.

I think we have the makings of a really fine group of adventurers.
I will have the links up on Monday and be ready to go. Please post in the Discussion chat for any questions or to chat amongst yourselves :)

Opening Recruitment to Replace Player of an Established Character

We are looking at replacing one of our players that had to step away. We would like to have the new player take over an already established character for the Adventure of I7 Baltron's Beacon. Tazo just had a child and is cutting back on PBP commitments to spend time with his new adventure :) His character is Maja Weatherseed, a Riverfolk Halfling, who is a well-established member of the adventuring party she is in. He has given me permission to look for someone to replace him to run Maja.

This will require you to read the story to get caught up and to understand the character and fill comfortable taking it over. If there are minor tweaks you would like to make we can discuss prior to the acceptance and a short window once you take over.

Maja Weatherseed She is a riverfolk halfling (house race), rogue (scout)/fighter.

This is a house rules Greyhawk Adventure so you will need to understand the house rules.

House Rules Document

Currently, the group is working to get back to full health and make a decision on one of their friends and companions. He is suffering from demonic possession and they are trying to figure out their next course of action. In the meantime, their guide into the Hool Marsh, Feremon, has just arrived after tracking them down.

I will be looking for someone willing to jump fully into the character and push us as a group in posting rate. I would like to see us get back to a once a day post during the weekdays. We have all gotten a little busy so it is more like 2 to 3 posts a week (some times less). I am working on pushing the posting rate back up at the moment. We have an excellent group of players and Tazo will be missed so I am looking to replace him with another great player :)

Take time to read through the Gameplay thread before you make a decision.

I will be making a choice on this no later than May 10th (Friday). I will be getting feedback from the party members on any submissions and their input is a big part of the final decision.

If you would like to chat about the character feel free to IM me.

Bumping for those interested.

I play this Hexorite cleric in the game - as a footnote to ALLENDM's pitch I can heartily recommend it if you enjoy a slow burn, immersive (and surprisingly doom laden) game.

Would implore anyone curious to read the game thread thus far to get a feel for the excellent atmosphere and interesting character dynamics.

Appreciate that stepping into someone else's creative shoes (or hairy feet) isn't often that attractive, but we're still at the early stages so there's plenty of opportunity to make our Hobniz Scout your own :)

Cheers

Black Dow

Hi ALLENDM are you still looking for players? I am playing in your saltmarsh game (Peran) but would love to play in another of your games if you will have me!! Just thought I would check.

Hey Daniel!

Are you interested in taking over Maja or would you like to start new? I am totally game for you coming aboard.

Dark Archive

Wow. Dan Stewart just puts up a post indicating interest and he gets 2 favorites?

Posts: I've been doin' them wrong. ^_^

Liberty's Edge

lol...well one of them was myself....I mistakenly pressed the + button..lol

So whats new Atlas?? You looking to joining this game too?

I was thinking of a ranger, if that would be ok...specializing in swamps and marshes. Would it be too much to be a lizardman??

We could do that. It would need to be a rogue lizardman that had broken away from his/her tribe. The tribes in this area are ruled by a lizard king (Evil).

We could make this easy by him/her knowing Feremon. Think of Lizardman like American Indians...that is how I modeled them. Feremon has contacts through out the swamp mostly lizardman and tribes that are friendly to him.

A matter of fact the ones that the party could run into will be using gunstock clubs, warclubs, spears, hatchets, knifes, and short bows. Some of more advanced weapons but you get the drift. Hide or bone armor. More advanced would have leather or studded leather...

Liberty's Edge

Awesome..I will get on to it asap!!

I would expect for you to use this race set up and you start at 6th level.

Language for Lizardfolk is Low Draconic (Kobold/Lizardfolk speak this tongue).

Lizard folk:
Racial Traits
Ability Score Modifiers: Flexible (+2 Str, +2 Con) (2 RP)
Type: Humanoid (reptilian) (0 RP)
Size: Medium (0 RP)
Base Speed: Normal (0 RP)
Languages: Xenophobic (0 RP) Lizardfolk start knowing their racial language only.
Natural Armor: Lizardfolk have tough scaly skin, granting them a +1 natural armor bonus. (2 RP)

MOVEMENT RACIAL TRAITS

Swim: Lizardfolk have a swim speed of 30 feet and thus gain a +8 racial bonus on Swim checks (1 RP)
Natural Attacks: Bite 1 (RP) Lizardfolk gain a natural bite attack, dealing damage equivalent to that of a creature two size categories lower than normal for their size (1d2 for Small races, 1d3 for Medium, etc.). The bite is a primary attack, or a secondary attack if the creature is wielding manufactured weapons.
Natural Attacks: Claws 2 (RP) Lizardfolk receive two claw attacks. These are primary natural attacks. The damage is based on the creature’s size (1d4 for Medium creatures.)

Lizardfolk Info

Dark Archive

Good choice. I have ALWAYS thought that a Ranger that had skills in Stealth and Athletics, with a Thief's toolkit was at least equal, and probably better, than a Rogue.

(If you go Variant Human and can take Crossbow Master it's even more better.)
