Miles casts a spell into the darkness.
horse reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 For some reason horses seem to be the only thing I can roll well for of late.
The horse whinnies but there is no crash.
Aliabot sweeps her long, long blade sideways through the darkness at about mounted Hotspur Seline height.
50% miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 24
It cleaves air and nothing else.
Numalarbot shouts "TAKE COVER!" and does so himself away from the barking-mad, dwarven, artillery wizard.

Bloody Angus Makdoon |

Holding his waraxe in both hands, Angus's voice rises form the darkness like a walrus bellow from a very deep wooden barrel.
Inspire rage! (The company only)
Dwarves pile out of the cathedral top and bottom, led by Warbeard. They take up the chant.
He takes a 5 foot move past Scarlet. As he passes Scarlet can read his expression. It says "I'm going to take that little rascal Miles' (apparently by his dress one of Hotspur's men, err gnomes) rapier and shove it hand-basket first up where the sun don't shine, the first chance I get."

The Blue Beetle |

horse acrobatics (half movement): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Alright almost always.
horse reflex v fall: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 See?
The beast slips though and takes a moment to gather itself.

Arbalasti Singe |

Arbalasti joined now by a grim-looking crossbow-bearing dwarf with a dwarf-sized shield strapped to his back, opens his coat revealing jars and jars of what one might expect to be high-yield, chemical explosives strung along cris-crossing bandoleers. From behind a merlon, he sniffs the wind for the scent of war. Seems Readied.

"THE CASTLE!"

Erevenywg |

Dwarves pile out of the cathedral top and bottom, led by Warbeard. They take up [Bloody Angus's] chant.
Seeing the angry-looking dwarves marshal from the cathedral's double doors and advance upon them, Erevenywg looks down at Miles, and says with an air of gleeful anticipation: "Is this not what your people call 'going to be the good'?"
She beams excitedly.

Zokon Santyev |

Zokon moves on the walls above to a position that is above the darkness.. what can he see from here please
He looks down to see what stock he can take of what's going on

Scarlet Scarab |

"Alia, get over here, quick." Scarlet waves her. "Either the mercs or the army are gonna get you!"
Scarlet waits. She's in quite a bind here.

RPGGGM |

Zokon moves on the walls above to a position that is above the darkness.. what can he see from here please

The space between the guardhouse, and the cathedral is dim (there are some torches around the main courtyard, but nothing here). The space indicated by the grey arc is completely dark. Zokon can make out the shadowy form of Alia and the dwarf mercenary under the ramparts behind her. He can't see anyone in the arc, and can't see Erevenywg and Miles because of the tower being in the way. He also has a really bad angle on the two dwarves in the tower above.

Serena Mistcastle |

Serena races down the stairs to the area beneath the gatehouse. Unable to see anything beyond the curtain of magical darkness, she takes up a defensive position at the gate.
Readied Action: If Hotspur comes out of the darkness, Serena will attempt to swing up into his saddle as he goes by her.

RPGGGM |

Serena races down the stairs to the area beneath the gatehouse. Unable to see anything beyond the curtain of magical darkness, she takes up a defensive position at the gate.
Those stairs do not actually go down to the ground floor. They only connect the top of the cathedral (where Numalar is currently standing) to the top of the northern castle walls (which are slightly higher and where Illthir is standing). There are little +40' and +50' elevation tags indicating relative-to-ground heights.
The green-bordered dwarf guard is on the ground floor and under the wall, in the short 10' tunnel that connects the courtyard to the big castle gates that runs under the wall there. There are murder holes (basically floor-mounted arrow slits) in the top of the wall over the tunnel that allow people standing there to see, pour hot oil, and shoot arrows down into that tunnel. The green dwarf is not fully opaque to indicate that he is under the wall.
Looking back I see that's what Serena was shooting for on the last round too. If she is trying to get to ground level the difficult stairs attached to the south-side of the cathedral probably are you best bet beyond trying to parkour your way down like Big Alia did. There is a squeezable hole in the guardhouse roof (which you would have to climb walls or jump down to). Otherwise, there is always jumping into the moat... and coming in via the front gates if they are open, by all the recent yelling it sounds as if they are not.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Addendum There is a lot of noise coming from the cathedral tower Zokon is standing next to. The tower is mostly one long tube with a spiral stairwell running along the inside of the outer wall and nothing down the center. Zokon can hear the dwarves piling out down below into the courtyard, but there is at least one dwarf still close-by on the stairs on the other side of the tower's arrow slits who doesn't seem to be going anywhere in a hurry.

Zokon Santyev |

Zokon is fine with this, if he gets attacked he will defend himself.

Alia of the Blade |

Alia listens...to the horse, to the air, to the voice in the back of her head...taking her Estoc into one hand, she stabs forward once.
Attack(Spellcombat): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Looking inward, at the same time, she focuses a spell and weaves it into being.
Cast defensively DC 17): 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 4 = 19 - Frostbite
The previous stab was more of a probe, showing Alia where Hotspur was not - and it also made it perfectly clear, at least according to the voice she heared, where he WAS.
Attack(Spellcombat - Spellstrike): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 69 Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 1 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 + 1 + (4) + 4 = 22 14 lethal and 8 nonlethal cold - 3 more charges remain.
"Yield! Transfer the contract to me, Hotspur!"
I would assume the attacks are at +2 and he has no Dex against them, if Hotspur is also blinded, not that it makes a difference.

![]() |

Numalar goes over to the edge of the parapet and looks down, into a pool of inky blackness. He can see the figures withi, though theyn seem cold and gray. He can make out Alia fighting with... something.
That must be Hotspur. But where is he?
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Well, neither of them can see in there anyway. Let's light it up for the rest of us.
Numalar throws a bolt of golden light downwards into the fray. It enters the darkness, and when it strikes the ground it scatters into a ball of sparkling motes, which look silvery in the gloomy view of darkvision.
Casting glitterdust. Will DC 17. Since Alia is already basically blind anyway I hope she doesn't mind. But it will let those of us with Darkvision see Hotspur.
The yellow circle is the AoE but it is at ground level, so those of us on the parapet (such as me) will not be affected.

Alia of the Blade |

You do have darkvision, right? I am basically blinded...but a.: I don't exactly understand the purpose of highlighting Hotspur - with darkvision he's already visible and without he's invisible...what does glitterdust change? and b.: more importantly, why do you focus the effect on me? And deliberately exclude the dwarfs on hotspurs side? You could easily have placed the effect on the other side of the horse, excluding me but possible blinding the dwarfs coming to hotspurs aid(and leveling the playing field there...only affecting scarlet who is deliberating and not acting atm.
Please do help me understand your tactical decision on targetting the Glitterdust straight on me. It seems the only thing that will accomplish is make sure I am also blinded against the dwarf flanking me, AND can't take any Attacks of Opportunity against anybody tumbling past me or going through my space.
Also, +1 damage from inspire courage, and +2 on the attack...I forgot to add the boni during post.

Serena Mistcastle |

Serena spins about on her heel, swearing as the stairway abruptly ends before reaching the ground. She turns and runs back up the stairs and heads for the way that she knows will take her to the courtyard.
At a run, she should be able to get to the head of the stairs as indicated on the map.

![]() |

Please do help me understand your tactical decision on targetting the Glitterdust straight on me.
It's because I know you are in melee with him but I don't know where he is. As Durgan mentioned, Hotspur is now invisible. He drank a potion.

Alia of the Blade |

@Numalar+Durgan: Ah, ok, I was unaware he went doubly invisible, that's the piece of the puzzle that was missing...it's all dark to me :P
That said, I still think focusing the effect on the dwarfs would have been a preferable option(to me, at least)
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Well, at least I got that going for me.

RPGGGM |

I assume Alia is targeting the space directly above the horse--since by the rules riders are spread like butter is on toast upon their mounts.
Alia's blade stabs into thin air!

Arbalasti Singe |

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
"WOOF!"
Singe notes Numalar casting into the darkness. Seeing the potential threat (even if he can't see to far into the dark for great distance) he targets the sorcerer with a spell of his own. A sticky web suddenly lashes itself between the battlements, around the merlons, over the cathedral roof, against the the tower, and over to the the northern wall.
Numalar, Illthir, Zokon - reflex save DC 15, or be grappled. Webs are difficult terrain and can provide some cover. If Numalar becomes grappled he has to make a concentration check to cast glitterdust, likewise Illthir will need to maintain concentration on her illusion.

Scarlet Scarab |

Bah, I need to get Alia out of there! Scarlet decides to... sigh... double move up and around.
This provokes AoOs from the Dwarves leaving the tower.
"Durgan, it's a real mess out there! I gotta get Alia out there before she's hurt."

Illthir Winlowe |

Reflex vs DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Illthir blinks and hops away from the sticky strands. She tries to not screw up her spell or look too distracted while doing so. Annoyed and somewhat worried about this whole situation she calls out for the dwarves.
"Hey! Why couldn't you guys be this resourceful when the castle was burning?!"
Going to maintain concentration on the illusion until we have Hotspur contained or until it becomes clear that it isn't helping

Scarlet Scarab |

"And where do you think you're going?" Ledda Warbeard says extending a hand to stop Scarlet.
"You protect your charge, I protect mine!" Scarlet huffs out. "She'll get torn apart if I don't fish her out of there!"

Miles De Nerthopln |

Bloody Angus Makdoon wrote:Dwarves pile out of the cathedral top and bottom, led by Warbeard. Miles is confused, especially with the approach of these angry-looking dwarves and not knowing whose side they might be on. For a moment he looks to Erevenywg and decides to talk to her in Sylvan.
"Why have you been following me? Also, can you do anything about that darkness? I can't see a thing in there."
He continues his performance, uncertain about his next move.

Zokon Santyev |

Ref save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Whew
Zokon ducks undersome web, jumps over another piece and rolls to get away from most of it.. "Oi! dog dwarf.. don't make me use a knockout arrow on you."

![]() |

Numalar, Illthir, Zokon - reflex save DC 15, or be grappled. Webs are difficult terrain and can provide some cover. If Numalar becomes grappled he has to make a concentration check to cast glitterdust.
"Gah!" Numalar shouts as sticky webbing covers him.
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Concentration: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Concentration check is probably good... but the formula for Concentration in a grapple is 10 + Opponent's CMB + Spell level. I'm guessing that for a spell that grapples but has no listed CMB you would use the spell save DC instead of 10 + CMB? If that is the the case then the DC would be 17 and I succeeded.

RPGGGM |

Illthir, Zokon just remember that you are both still inside the area of the web (though only 5 feet away from a clear space). See slide 11 for the exact spell area template.

Going by this it is 10 + web spell's save DC (15) + the level of the spell you are casting (2). So DC 27. Apparently it is meant to tie casters up real good, and make people rethink picking up Combat Casting. Black tentacles seems even more scary now.
Another look around seems to indicate that the check DC is made that way to simulate the DCs of a caster being grabbed by a good grappling monster of similar level to the web's caster.
The spell fizzles on Numalar's fingertips.

Erevenywg |

Miles is confused, especially with the approach of these angry-looking dwarves and not knowing whose side they might be on. For a moment he looks to Erevenywg and decides to talk to her in Sylvan.
He continues his performance, uncertain about his next move.
"-yes na- sanda ni ungo tye an a anann anann lú. Tar n- ósanwe." Erevenywg stops and considers this for a moment, before regarding the magical darkness. "Ni vamme care- nat i yallume lú so ni osán- vamme ni pole- care- anything sina lú."
"Oh, and you best run, because I think Angus is going to try and shove your sword 'where the sun doth not glimmer.'" she beams happily at her rendering of the figure of speech.

Ledda Warbeard |

As Scarlet passes the dwarf warrior mutters. "I swore I wouldn't kill you for your brother sake, but that doesn't mean you get a pass on everything." The flat of Warbeards axe moves so fast it could have felled a tree but it just misses Scarlet.
flat of dwarven waraxe v Scarlet (AoO, power attack, rage! 2-handed, buckler, nonlethal): 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 - 4 = 4 nonlethal damage: 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 Miss!

RPGGGM |

The mercenaries at Warbeard's heel spring into action. Two hustle around to Scarlet's rear, while another rushes in to aid in cornering her.
Red, Yellow, double move avoiding AoO.
orange waraxe v Scarlet (aid Warbeard, flank): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 2 = 25
Likewise the guard behind Alia, familiar as he is with the unit's tactic of using darkness to their advantage, tries to hem the giant elf in by standing his ground, halberd at the ready. Green Total defense.

Ledda Warbeard |

Warbeard over balanced by his miss rushes to catch up, beard streaming, axe flat over his helm, held firmly in his two strong hand he brings it down in what otherwise might have been a killing blow but again misses.
flat of dwarven waraxe v Scarlet (aid, power attack, rage! 2-handed, buckler, nonlethal): 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 - 4 = 19 nonlethal damage: 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20 Miss!

The Blue Beetle |

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
From out of the darkness a great serpent made of water shoots forth!
disarm v Alia: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
It bites down and yanks the black blade from her grasp! She hears it clang on the stones at her feet shrinking as it falls to normal size.
Before she bend or even react the silhouette of blue dwarf is standing before her his aimed at her knee. But his blade--by all the gods, his blade is outlined in a darkness darker than night, darker than the magical darkness shrouding it, and its master. It is a black katana!
Alia can tell even through the dark that this sword was not just forged of any mere skymetal, but of the same substance as her own blade, and she fancied she could hear it laughing just now.
"Do not try it." says the dwarf captain coldly.

Scarlet Scarab |

"Wha?" Scarlet ducks underneath the blade as it bounces off her magical shield. "What are you doin'? I gotta get to my charge. We can spar later."

Zokon Santyev |

Zokon takes a 5ft step and uses studied target on Ledda and then fires a blunt arrow down at him
Blunt+st+height adv-da: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

I'm going to see if Zokon is alright, but Scarlet will plan to double move up towards Alia.

Durgan Far-Walker |

Durgan draws and uses his scroll of Invisibility Purge.
This is a 25' radius and lasts for 5 minutes.
Drawing the scroll will provoke from Red, as would casting (assuming Red has Combat Reflexes). I don't think he provokes from Orange because there is cover from the corner.
