Welcome players!
I will be finalizing random bits for your characters tomorrow as well as getting the gameplay thread going. Please create your profile alias for your character and ensure your information is there for easy access. You can PM me here with questions or email me directly: zizazat@gmail.com

I was going to recommend/request everyone look at Sarsam's profile as it seems a quick/easy/reable format to follow :)
I will be getting random rolls out of the way soon and the gameplay thread open for dotting. You guys can sort out your character connections and any thing else you need here.
Sarsam Zimm |
Ok, two things:
1 - I was thinking about changing my descriptor to Tough to avoid the mechanical overlap between Sarsam and Eptin (both share the same descriptor and type). It wouldn't change Sarsam's personality or background (the nanites would give him a hardened skin and better health and regeneration, hence the Tough descriptor).
2 - Explores dark places - the connection for this focus says to choose one other character with whom Sarsam has worked before (in our case, probably another hired job, perhaps the same that brought us to Quintas). Sarsam and the chosen character get a +1 bonus to rolls when working together (basically when using the help action or attacking the same foe). I´ll take applicants. :)
GM - Mark Garringer |
Sarsam that will be fine to change your descriptor to Tough.

Voss Nerik |
Hey there Sarsam.
Voss and yourself could have met on each other's travels.
Voss is a trained dancer, aided by his control of gravity. Perhaps, Sarsam watched a perfomance from the shadows one evening, noting Voss' extraordinary leaps, seemingly to hang in the air longer than was humanly possible. Your curiosity could have led you to an introduction and subsequent travels together, bringing us to our current location.
Eptin |
Sarsam, I could see our characters having quite a bit of history together. You explore dark places. I seek out symbiotic mold and plants. I am not sure that my character is the optimal choice for the bonus, but it does make sense for us to have a history.

Nothing yet. I left a PM in addition earlier this evening. It does not look like they had been active since yesterday afternoon. I will wait till tomorrow evening before offering the spot to one of the other two I did not choose.
Sarsam Zimm |
Teleporter (traveler) is an occultic cypher, so it counts as two. Therefore I should not get the third cypher (retaliation node).
I also don't get the additional oddity, since it came from the mechanical descriptor.
If we may use the connection suggestions from the Character Options book, I just thought of a cool connection between Sarsam and Voss: Sarsam's shadow always leans towards Voss when they are within short range of each other. :)
GM - Mark Garringer |
Sounds good to me Sarsam. Thanks for the clarification on the cyphers.
GM - Mark Garringer |
Also, friendly reminder: as a new GM to they Cypher system if I am doing something that seems incorrect or blatantly against published rules please let me know in a polite way :) My overall style tends to favor more cinematic interpretations, but if you feel I am doing something against the rules or at your expense I am happy to take the feedback. Thanks!

Sorry, yesterday turned into a crazy busy day at work and I had my 5e group last night so I am a little behind...I will get gameplay updated later today.
Sarsam: How are you doing nonlethal damage with the Onslaught esotery? I could not really find anything about nonlethal damage in my pdf. Not that I am disagreeing with your action, but I am having trouble finding the mechanics behind it. Thanks!
Sarsam Zimm |
The rules do not mention nonlethal damage per se. In page 93 of the Core Rulebook, under the header "The Effects of Taking Damage", it is stated that "when an NPC reaches 0 health, it is either dead or (if the player wishes it) incapacitated, meaning unconscious or beaten into submission".
So basically when I say nonlethal what I mean is that I don't want to kill him; in case my attack reduces the raider's health to 0, I want him unconscious instead.
Also, just checked the Onslaught esotery and it should be only 2 intellect damage (4 damage is for physical attacks only). Plus 3 damage from effort.

Yup, I am lining up a replacement. Work has been unexpectedly heinous this week already. Please bear with me as we sort it all out...
BlackStork |
Hello guys, i been watchin' your game for some time and i registered here to post this post here:
I am really interested to join your PbP Numenera game and to play PbP Numenera at all.
Please tell if there any possibility to join the game at some plot event/vista (could be that prisoner you could free). Seeing that some people MIA this could reinforce the party.
I would like to make/offer my character but if some premade required i could live with that.
In that case my character would be Perceptive Nano who Sees Beyond (Desc and Foci both from CO Book) and ifs its ok i will roll/give more full detail and finalize him at needed point of game before entrance.
Thanks and Cheers.
GM - Mark Garringer |
Thanks for the offer BlackStork, but I have already selected one of the alternate submissions from the Recruitment thread to join in.

Welcome Sirona! You will be introduced in the Gameplay thread shortly.
Cypher 1: 73 repair unit (pg. 294), a handheld device that resembles an orb. Level: 1d10 ⇒ 3
Cypher 2: 89 teleporter (bounder) (pg. 296), a metallic wristband studded with purple crystals. Level 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Oddity: 100 a pair of clear drinking glasses that change color depending on the contents
Also, I think for purposes of the story, the way you were captured has something to do with a strange numenera spear that the raiders attacked you with. The spearhead interacted with your metallic components in some strange way which caused you to shutdown into a catatonic state. The rest of the party will find you shortly, remove the spearhead thus reactivating you. You will have at least some short term memory loss and not really be sure where you are, or how you got to the Seshar. I am open to any other ideas you may have in this regard and don't want to take away from anything you are planning for your character. I just went with the easiest/most obvious explanation I could come up with off the cuff :)
Sirona |
Also, it says the first 5 points of damage I take to my pools can't be recovered normally, Dose that apply to points lost from effort or not? The Way it is written makes me think that it is intended to just apply to points lost through damage, but it is, ultimately your call.
GM - Mark Garringer |
Good catch, thanks. I keep forgetting about that occultic symbol. I wish it was on the random table as well. Keep the repair unit since that was rolled first.
As for the healing bit...I read a few threads on ninthworldhub and I tend to agree with you that the wording seems to want to make them different. The only thing I don't like about it is that it sort of creates extra bookkeeping (what was the source) where as standard recovery doesn't distinguish between a damage or a spend source.
Let's go with the separate sources for now. Damage is damage, spend is not damage.

I wanted to give you guys a heads up, this week and next might be a little crazy/spotty for me. I am going to try my best to at least post daily, but this week I am doing single dad duty and next week I am going on vacation to Spain. I should have regular access once I arrive in Madrid to post daily at least, but just a heads up on some impending turbulence :) Thanks!
GM - Mark Garringer |
I am going to go ahead and call it till Monday for me at this point. I have to pack and travel today and tomorrow, arriving in Madrid on Sunday morning. So realistically I won't be doing much before Monday morning. Have a great weekend everyone!
