I tried to avoid it... but I couldn't help but hear the line that Joana just wrote in an upper class British ladies' accent said while enjoying high tea.
"Oh I know, and unmarried and in a hut with that brute... unthinkable really... another scone Gertrude?"

A small advanced warning - starting Wednesday (my time so roughly 48 hours from this post) I'll be in geographical flux at these highlighted locations.
Fly out of KL on Wednesday night, two days in Kota Kinabalu, one full day in transit in Singapore then about eight days (through to Sunday 19th) in Adelaide before returning back to home location. I should retain interwebs connectivity throughout (though with tablet + keyboard rather than laptop), though my access and verbosity might be moderately curtailed at times.

Hope work, health and life didn't critical you this last week Dien. Sending you good vibes.

They sort of did. *drags self upright* Sick in the family translated eventually into 'sick for me'; throwing up 4 times in one day is no fun. However, I'm feeling physically a bit better, and we've conquered one of the three work deadlines, so I hope to at least get a post up sometime in the next 12 hours. Thanks for all your patience, guys.

Hofn post coming sometime later today.
This week has been ridiculous. After I posted that last message above, I have since my had 91-year-old grandmother fall, gashing open her hand nicely and needing me to call EMT personnel; as well as having an argument with Boss #2 about how no, I really can't come to [other city that's 5 hours away] for three days right now just because she'd like me to be there due to a deadline on her end; and discovering that client for a different job has yet to give us any of the information needed to write her project, which is a 25-page grant application plus supporting documentation that is due... Wednesday.
*lights everything on fire*

Hang in there Dien. I also really appreciate your openness. It makes it easier to wait a for the next update knowing how serious things are going for you. I am glad you are there for your grandmother. We will all be there someday and I pray someone will be there for me when it's my turn.
Also, how far away if the watcher in the rocks.

Hofn post coming sometime later today.
this turned out to be a lie.
I'm working on it. Life has quieted down a little, but I've been sleeping a LOT, trying to catch back up on what I lost, and both posts I need to write to move us forward are big ones. Will make an extra effort to get them done today.

Joana |

Halla, how do we want to handle healing up? I am more than willing to drink Eysteinns' CLW potion to get closer to full HP, but given that it can be used by anyone, it might be smarter to hold it in reserve and have Halla patch Eysteinn up a bit before we head out. I just don't want to just assume she'll do as much without asking.
Would it be okay with the DM to retcon that Eysteinn asked for healing yesterday when we were desecrating the orc cadaver? That would allow her to start the trek with a full spell load-out.

Joana |

Catch-up Question - Is this the day after the fight or has more time passed? How much natural (or whatever) healing do we get? As I recall, I was at 2 HP after the battle.
This is the second morning since the attack. Since Rikka hasn't been active in the storyline since then, she could have spent a full day resting, naturally healing 4 hp, or 8 hp if someone trained in Heal was tending her, plus another 2 hp for last night's rest. That's 6 to 10 points of good.

GM Dien |

Sorry for the delay, both in posting and in answering y'all's actual questions. I have just been finding it super-hard to concentrate this week, I don't know why. *flumpy flop*
Anyway, yes, Joana is correct on the timeline-- attack happened before dawn, then Rikka had the whole day to rest up, then the night to sleep, then it is dawn again. I'm completely fine with ruling you spent the time in Palli's longhouse, aka the ER, and got 10 back from the day/etc.
okay. Gonna try and scrape myself together to do the things GMs do. Sorry again, guys.

GM Dien |

Okay. I think I've over-extended myself on PBPs some; I'm going to be looking at ones I can cut. Before anyone thinks the worst based on that sentence, I stress that this one will NOT be one of the ones I cut. :P Games that I'm GMing are my highest priority. It's just that I also have eight other games I'm a player in, heh, and that's probably too many for me right now.
Aside from games I'm a player in, the other game I'm GMing should be winding up in the next few weeks, after which I will be able to focus my full GM brain on this and return to a regular, consistent posting schedule and not leave you guys hanging as I've done this week. There's nothing worse in a PBP than a GM who doesn't keep up the momentum necessary to keep the game moving, so, again, I'm sorry for falling down on that!
Second note:
I've been rereading the environmental rules on cold, because they do seem sort of ridiculous compared to real world analogues... at least until I noticed a particular word my eyes have always glossed over before.
An unprotected character in cold weather (below 40° F) must make a Fortitude save each hour (DC 15, +1 per previous check) or take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage.
In the real world, if it's 38 degrees out and you're wearing a nice coat/boots/etc, you're simply not in danger of freezing to death, or of taking even non-lethal damage (whatever that translates to in the real world ;) ). So I think it's both a correct reading of the rules, and also much more sensible, to assume that if you're dressed reasonably for the cold (defined in game terms as wearing either a cold weather outfit, furs, both, or something else that seems like 'reasonable cold weather clothing' at my discretion) then you don't need to worry about the first cold category.
Anyway, in light of my original incorrect reading, I was too harsh on the scouting team, but ultimately it didn't slow things down very much or result in anyone freezing to death. And it means I will not be rolling like fifty fort saves for the war-band group, so, you know, yay.
This is of course not to say that the other cold categories may not make appearances, just that in the 0-40 degree range, you don't need to worry about the cold as long as you're appropriately dressed.
And now, I will REALLY, TRULY, GO WRITE SOME OVERDUE POSTS.

Thrymr Níðingr |

GM Dien - I feel you for the concertina of PbP overextension and whatnot... at my worst I was actually DMing eight at once, which in retrospect wasn't the wisest thing to be doing.
I'm still here and engaged and won't be going anywhere - you're doing a good job even with the work stress you're going through, etc.
Edit: the cold weather rules is one reason why I like Rugged Northerner as a feat. I laugh in the face of the cold ;)

Thank you for the update. I am very glad to hear we made the cut. Even short posts keep the flow going, but I can tell you are focused on providing quality posts.
"Red leader standing by."

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Thanks for being understanding, guys!
@Thrymr: GMing eight? I would die. I would just die. Oh, and while I remember-- if and when you get the time, can you update Thrymr's stat line to have his mini stats? Knute's is a great example of how to format that. Primarily I want AC, saves, Init, and Perception there, since I wind up having to check those a lot.

Thrymr Níðingr |

Just noting that if any of those uber-orcs actually manages to crit we will be subjected to the chunky salsa rule ala Shadowrun.
3d12+30? for second level PCs? Remind me not to make you break out the big guns :P
For clarity and because the written word is difficult to portray online... all of the above is written in jest and in worship of the Patron Saint of Frivolity.

GM Dien |

:P
Well, you were given orders not to attack them....
And for the record, the 'uber-orcs' are just CR 1 orcs out of the Bestiary.

GM Dien |

If it makes you feel any better, I'm about to throw a [redacted] at my other party I'm GMing for.
Eben, Stormraven, cover your eyes so I can narrate the horrors you're about to experience! ;)
