Yes, I'm pretty happy I got as far as I did, and, well-- best case scenario is that come next year I've already invalidated myself in another way (being published), but hey, we'll see! Anyway, thanks for all the nice thoughts. :)
And yes, it's a darn shame about Stormraven. I've had him for over a year in one of my other games and he's one of my favorite players. :-\
That said, I have contacted one of the people on my list of interested players, who has said he is willing, but who is reeling from a bad flu right now. I'm discussing his character with him and brainstorming ways to bring another character into the story, and he might actually get thrown on scene into either Eysteinn at Grinmer's, or out in the woods with Thrymr and Knute, so that's part of why I haven't updated either of those scenes yet.
(The other part is just that I'm struggling to get back on that regular-posting horse. Workin' on it.)
Anyway, hopefully I'll have fresh meat a new friend for y'all soon, and also, something for Halla to do.

As you guys may have guessed, the rolls are indicative of our new player. :)
So, Goblin, come on in to the OOC! (And no, he's not actually playing a goblin, cough.)
Thrymr and Knute will probably get to meet the new character soon. And now, I go to write some very long over-due posts. Thanks again for your long-suffering patience, guys.

Sorry for the delay, update coming... sometime later.
We actually had a death at our local PFS today (well, Sunday), and I mean.... a death of a player, not a PC. :( :( :( One of the guys who's been gaming with us for ages had a heart attack at our game store. I wasn't particularly close to him, but it was still pretty surreal and sad.
Anyway. Yes. Updating later today, most likely.

Tassidar Edasseril |

Thank you for the update. I am sorry for your loss even if you weren't close. Death touches us all especially if you are not accustomed to seeing it regularly. I really appreciate the update though, because otherwise it is easy to assume the game is lagging due to other reasons. Looking forward to tossing the bones with this group when we get moving again.

GM Dien |

It came less than a week after the unrelated death of a different member of our local PFS, so it was definitely sort of a "jeez, what's going on" type of feeling.
That said, it's not the only reason I've been slow-- I'm struggling with schedule and motivation issues; it seems like every time I have time to post I can't brain, and every time I have brain, I have some big deadline my boss is wanting done right now/or something else urgent. So, thanks again for your patience, guys. I really do want to get us back into a regular pattern, especially since bringing in a new player requires the GM to be on the ball with it. So I'll just try and redouble my efforts, and continue to impose on y'all to bear with me.
*heads to post RIGHT NOW while she has time, etc*

Joana |

Saw this before-and-after in a 'don't text and drive' campaign, and it made me think of Signy.

Knute Iversson |

Yeah, after I had that happen a few times, I decided to draft all posts in Notepad, then copy & paste. It's awful to lose work because the page didn't upload right, or backspace decided to take you back a page instead of delete some words.

Knute Iversson |

Sorry I'm being slow, all. It's the week before spring break, so I have one paper, two projects, and a midterm coming up. :/ I'll toss something up later today, if I can finish one of the projects.

Hey guys,
I’m very sorry to say that, due to real life issues, I’ve found myself unable to follow PbPs over the last month or so, and I foresee that the current situation will last until June if not for the whole 2015.
I apologize to my GMs and fellow players, I had a lot of fun in the last 2 years playing on these boards; I hope not to disrupt the narrative of the great stories you’re trying to tell.
Goodbye everyone!

Tassidar Edasseril |

Sorry to hear that, your character arc was one I was very interested in following. Good luck to you.

GM Dien |

Okay, so, I still have at least two people off the top of my head, maybe three, who have told me they'd be interested in joining the game. My rule is to offer them a place in the party based on who first asked me, etc. However, right this second it's very hard to organically intro another character (I doubt I can get away with saying a SECOND PC was seeking shelter in that trull cave... ;) ).
So what I will do is play for a bit with the current crew, and hopefully get some forward plot progress going, and then when there's a more natural place to intro a replacement, I will.
I will GM Eysteinn long enough to resolve the little sidequest thing he is working on.

GM Dien |

Just a heads-up that in direct contradiction of my above statement, we will have a new player coming in shortly, who is actually taking over Eysteinn's character so that the GM doesn't have to wrestle with how to justify more fresh faces. :P
Eben, jump in when/if you feel like it, per discussion.

Eben TheQuiet |

Hey, everyone! I'm the new guy ... well, newest, anyway. I'm gonna do my best to take up Eynsteinn. I don't guarabtee to play him 100% true to the original, but I'll have fun with him while doing my best with the original concept, backstory, themes, and motivation.
I will get a post up in the game thread as soon as I can, though it will likely be another hour or so (stupid career ... always getting in the way!).
I'm looking forward to joining this crew. And thanks for the invite, Dien. :)

Eysteinn of Hofn |

Boom. Eysteinn is BACK ONLINE!
Quick question, though ... Eysteinn has Common, Ork, and Skald as languages. Isn't Skald the native language? If so, what's Common? Should that be redistributed to something more appropriate? Or at this point should I just leave it as-is?

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Eyyy yeah, welcome kid. And yes, in this context the 'common' tongue is Skald, but Eysteinn knows Common aka Taldane aka the lingua franca of a large portion of Golarion.
I'm going to get a proper descriptive post up regarding the front room of the cave later today, since it's the first time people have been able to see it by daylight. Thanks for bearing with me, folks.

Tassidar Edasseril |

Okay, assumptions are the mother of all screw ups and here is where I have royally messed up.
I didn't read your campaign because I was a foreign elf coming into your world and wanted to not have any meta-game feel. But I did read the post or two before I entered. I saw the men were in a shelter. I also saw that there was only a set of cat tracks going into the cave.
So I made my entrance to the story approaching the cave, because my tracks weren't there. So I was going to get in the cave.
First mistake, I was told I was in the cave and was told to re-read my intro from Dien. In that PM it said that I had searched the cave quickly and went to bed. I got a description of the rooms I had checked and that it looked like an animal had used the cave. Since I didn't see one walking through it when the Cat appeared I thought it was coming back into the cave because it wasn't seen when I searched it.
You are absolutely right that I missed that the cat had run back down the cavern after the confrontation. - I feel like a total jackass. No wonder everyone thought my character was an idiot, because his player is one :).
So after that, Tassidar did another recheck of the caverns to make sure he was safe before settling down---would not have done that had I known the cat had gone in there---but again see nothing threatening so I go into trance.
Tassidar thinks he is safe inside while the cat is outside. He sets his familiar to keep on look out in case the cat comes back---but of course the cat is actually inside with the elf.
Meta game I thought the sounds outside were the cat coming back. Obviously no one sees it, but tracks still lead inside.
I thought that meant that cat got past us all undetected, but Tassidar did not know that.
So anyway I have been really dense here lately. I am going to pay better attention to my reading. I have royally screwed this one up and has led to really weird interactions and perceptions.
So back to the story, knowing for certain, the cat is inside!

GM Dien |

Hey, no worries. If I had a GP for every time I had just parsed something wrong or misread something in a post, I'd have.... a lot of GPs.
You're coming into things with a bit of a disadvantage since I sort of just GM fiat-ed you into the cave as an excuse for how the other PCs could meet you, and hand-waved past a lot of the stuff that Tassidar might naturally have done in the wilderness when looking for shelter. If we had actually played out Tassidar's arrival in the cave and you had gotten to make appropriate checks/I had described things coherently rather than just 'you are here!' then it is probable that many things might have been clearer.
I'm going to just state a few things OOCly regarding the leopard, hopefully to clarify:
The cat was out most of the day hunting, unsuccessfully, but when the storm started building it turned for shelter... and found a Tassidar inside its shelter-from-the-storm. (So yes, it wasn't in the cave when Tassidar first got there and looked around.) Tassidar seemed tasty, so it went for noms, and found Tassidar was scarier and tougher than it thought. Since it could smell other critters outside in the snow, it ran deeper into the other rooms of the cave and not out of the cave. And yes, when Tassidar did a quick glance through the rooms after the fight, he did not see it, because cat was hiding.
Anyway, hopefully we are all on the same page now! :)

Tassidar Edasseril |

heh heh yeah I've been eating dandelions, the cat is allergic to pollens---so yeah I am good. Plus I rolled ones for my perception.
"Well here I am walking through the cave again . . . nope looks good . . . leopard shaped rock covered with hair again . . .that purring sound---must be an underground stream near by. Did it just move?! . . . must be tectonic plate movement. Well no Drow so I must be good." lol :)
of course my misunderstanding made me look bad ass too.
Them: "Holy shit dude, you aren't wearing any armor and can't fight. Are you seriously going to go sleep with the wounded leopard you just set on fire?!"
Me: "huh? Oh sorry I was distracted. But anyways, yeap, I'm gonna go sleep in that cave. A lot safer in there than out here with you boys. Good luck hope ya'all make it through the night."

GM Dien |

Haha, well, I did wonder. :P
No worries though, it's all good.
Good luck with your exams, Knute! You're up in combat when you get the chance, but don't stress over it; if you need me to GMPC you at all, just let me know.

Thrymr Níðingr |

Bah - faulty memory... it's not broken... yet. (better remember now that my first mattock broke after a nat 1 on the crit confirm roll).
The mattocks have the 'fragile' quality, which means that a natural 1 results in a broken weapon. One of the penalties for having a two handed weapon with a x4 crit modifier ;)
