"You know, raven, I haven't had a nice big bowl of chicken stew for centuries. And in this accursed realm there are no chickens. Just sayin'..."
The darkness at the edge of light becomes less murky and the shadows seem to retreat. The globe of light that guides you starts to bob in the air, and to move slowly ahead, as if the obstacles have been removed...
Muni, Keeper of Memories |
"Hold on, let me get this straight. First your little hooligans attack us, and you call me names for hauling 'em up short. Then when I call you on your sh*tty parenting skills, you threaten to eat me? Lady, I'm pretty sure you just proved my point. It obviously ain't yer kids that are the problem. And if you're going to loom in the shadows and try to be scary, you're doing it all wrong. Seriously, arguing with talking animals doesn't do much for your credibility."
Darren of House Redgard |
Darren let out a sigh of relief as the Spirits withdrew, then scowled as he noticed the bone deep chill where the child like spirits had hit him. He turns to Gilian.
"Nothing serious, though those spirits did leave their mark."
He then looks at Muni, and speaks in an almost apologetic tone of respect.
"I had thought of you as little more than a talking bird with visions of grandeur, but now I see that you truly are one of the ancestor spirits. This creature would be wise to not cross you."

Whatever or whoever was in the shadows beyond the light, it seems that she is gone now. The voice was female, that is sure, but the light once again shines on the ordinary cobbled road and there is no trace of that eerie forest that tried to envelop you.
The guiding light gently floats down the road, eventually reaching a large crossroads. There are at least eight different roads converging, with a small round square at the center. In the middle of the square an empty fountain stands, topped with a large statue. Only bottom half of the statue remains, however. Whatever was depicted, it had goat-like two legs and small goat tail above them.
There is a strange runic inscription marring the fountain.

Solvistania raises her hand up to halt the group. "I must check this further." She approaches the fountain, chanting softly to herself.
Cast Detect Magic
Knowledge Lore 1d20+15
Was your Knowledge check made as a part of the spell, to determine the type of the magic aura, or to gain knowledge of the fountain or the statue?
nightflier |
The type of fountain is similar to certain remains of Elthedar make in the rain forests of Arun. This must be of fey build, but you can not say if the fey in question were true fey, or the ancestors of the beings that would become elves. The runes that are marring the fountain are obviously of Dorn origin. You now little of Dorn magic and history, but you can sense the runes' connection to the cold and the spirits of wrath and rage.
Sky'tor Tu'kaleth |
Though Sky stays withing striking distance of the party, he tends to sit silently on his heels a small distance away, in the shadows.
I must learn to put my time away behind me. I can't let myself be paralyzed by fear. I am back now...and I have responsibilities. What is wrong with me. While I have felt fear before, I never let it keep me from acting... Have I truly returned?

You can buy Secondary Skills the regular way. You just get certain amount of skill points for free, essentially.

Okay, moving on.
Suddenly, from the murk beyond the crossroads, five glowing globes, identical to yours fly at you with great speed. Before you manage to react, they strike your guiding light and - just for an instant - make one great blindingly bright ball. A moment later, the great ball falls apart into six smaller ones once again, and each of them gently floats away in a different direction...
A snicker and a cackle sounds from beyond the circle of light...
Sky'tor Tu'kaleth |
When everyone else is finished looking at the rune, and ready to move on, Sky approaches the fountain, and investigates the rest of it...How it functioned, was it for water, etc, and the Statue to see if anything is unique about it.

Solvistania Elghreah |
Solvistania's eyes flash in anger as she sees the group's lifeline shattered by the unknown spirit's pranks. She starts to say something but stops, visibly trying to maintain control of her emotions, her eyes glowing a deep crimson knowing a hostile act would further doom the party to walk aimlessly in the Shadow lands.
Gilian |
Okay, moving on.
Suddenly, from the murk beyond the crossroads, five glowing globes, identical to yours fly at you with great speed. A moment later, the great ball falls apart into six smaller ones once again, and each of them gently floats away in a different direction...

If that's possible, Gilian can try to counterspell that effect with dispel magic. Dispel check 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
As the floating balls part again, Gilian hands move in a blur as she tries to counteract the magic cast at their guide.
nightflier |
Solvistania glances at Sky'tor, her anger forgotten for the moment. "Interesting...perhaps whoever is behind the mischief here knows of this..." Her voice raises, "Spirit, we wish to talk of this fountain and what caused it to be damaged."
Solvistania's voice echoes through the murk, but no answer comes. Whoever is the culprit, it is gone or watches in silence.
nightflier |
The six lights gently float, but each one at the start of a different road...
Just to let you know, there is a way for you to know which light is yours. Not all of you have the chance to so, though. And that is a clue enough. If you can't figure it out, or you fail in your try, than I propose that Gilian rolls d6 and choose a number.
Solvistania Elghreah |
Solvistania gives the raven spirit guide a frosty look, but deigns not to respond verbally. She scans the golden lights and attunes her senses at the glowing lights, each in turn. Once she has figured out which one it is, she will grab it and whisper, "Betwixt and between." to it.

Duncan's gaze was on the glowing balls of light the whole time, and as his mind races, trying to remember if he had ever read or heard anything about the foe they are now facing, presumably the old woman the scarecrow warned them about, he also made an attempt to follow their guiding light once it joined the others.

Almost as soon as Muni finished with his spell, five lights pulsed with angry red light for an instant, and started to fly with great speed towards him. They are so fast that you are caught by surprise and you are not sure if you will have time to react.
Reflex DC 10 to not be caught by surprise and be able to act.
