So it's engineering for round 2?
for the record, I want nothing to do with their front arc if I can at all avoid it.

![]() |

"Engines are giving all they have, Captain.Er, well I suppose they could produce more power if I disconnected the safety cut-outs, removed the ionic syphon and the flux plasma dampeners. That way the hyper-charged proton flow would instigate a secondary energy cascade at the quantum level and if the hull structure didn't lose all nuclear force then....."
Engineering to increase speed: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

![]() |

I've got a pretty good initiative roll in the spoiler above, so let's hope they go first.

Venture-Captain Arvin |

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
As you emerge from the side of the asteroids, you find they have come to a stop while they wait for you to appear. You are roughly 6 hexes behind them now, in their side/rear arc as they struggle to turn their huge ship on the spot.
Weapons fire spews from their turret mounted canon, and one aft gun, as a torpedo also is let loose.....
Atk Gyrolaser: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 DMG: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Atk Turret Coilgun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Atk Turret Coilgun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 DMG: 4d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 2) = 8
Atk Torpedo: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
While the gyrolaser hits home, your knowledge of the coil gun allows you to avoid it's damage. The torpedo curves out from the enemy ship, following the path you took around the asteroid, but it impacts the huge space rock harmlessly.
Fire at will...

Magnus Norvegicus |

"EAT LASER, PUNK!" Magnus opens up with the heavy laser at close range.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 = 23 to hit, damage 4d8 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 4) = 12
Meanwhile, Latheera calmly plots a trajectory before firing a missile at the waiting ship.
Pretty much point-blank so...
1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9 to hit, damage 4d8 ⇒ (5, 1, 7, 7) = 20
Taking two +1's from the computer.
EDIT: balls, would have been tasty damage if the missile had hit.

![]() |

Nice work guys. I'll take 24 points of damage. That should get through a shield, but I don't think it will cause any system glitches. Maybe next turn ....

![]() |

Hard to say. Let's go guns, and I'll try to keep them in either front or rear arc.
Spoilering initiaitive to speed things up: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

![]() |

Leaping across the engineering room, Wayf hastily redirects the power flow to overpower the main weapons.
"Going to give you all I can so just make sure it hits, Magnus. I've adjusted the laser wavelength so it has a greater chance of bypassing their shields."
Engineering to divert power to weapons: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Venture-Captain Arvin |

1d100 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 - 2 = 9
As your laser shots scatter around the ship, there are a couple of obvious hits where the enemies rear shield breaks down, and a few explosions pepper their hull.
WayF shoves maximum power through to weapons as the ship swings around, only managing to bring a side arc to face you.
Ok, where will you move? They have swung around, so you can either move to their front, or rear or charge headlong at their side.....

![]() |

Tofana works the controls, trying to slip in behind the pirates while keeping them in the firing arcs of Odyssey's forward weapons.
- 1st priority, keep out of their forward arc.
- 2nd, keep them in our front arc.
- 3rd, move toward their rear arc.
- 4th, turn as much as possible to match their direction
I realize it might not be possible to do all that. I'll sacrifice priority 4 to achieve the first 3. Note that I'm happy in the side arc, I just want to move toward the rearward side of it. I am willing to move slower than full speed to accomplish these goals. I am also willing to sideslip (or whatever the 60 degree movement option is called) if I must to achieve priorities 1 and 2.
Sideslip maneuver, or Evasion if sideslip isn't needed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Gunners, I used a computer bonus on initiative again. Two bonuses left for you.

Magnus Norvegicus |

Magnus curses, refocussing the heavy laser as the ship slews about.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 to hit, damage 4d8 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 7) = 17
Meanwhile, Latheera calmly plots another missile trajectory before launching a second salvo.
Latheera gets the last +1.
1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10 to hit, damage 4d8 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 2) = 10

Venture-Captain Arvin |

Tofana calmly brings the ship around to face the rear of the enemy again, although the sideways manoeuvre she uses throws off both Korskal's aim and the tracking lock on the torpedo. Magnus though keeps a firm lock on the enemy.
Meanwhile, they return fire.
Atk Gyrolaser: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 DMG: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Atk coilgun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24Atk coilgun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 DMG: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 4) = 13
The enemy ship returns fire, and this time, manages to keep you in their sights. Your front shield is ripped apart and a small amount of fire makes it to your hull.
You lose all of your front shield, and 3 Hull Points

![]() |

If I win initiative, I can probably hold them in a side arc. Regardless of initiative, I can probably turn away and put them in the rear. Depends on what Korskal wants to do.
Helm init: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 1 = 24

If we have taken hull damage does that mean that system is now glitching? If so and it's a system critical to the combat then Wayf will try to patch it. Otherwise it is time to divert power into the front shield I think.
Mentally activating the fire suppressant systems through the direct interface control rig, Wayf leaps over to the power core controls and starts diverting the auxiliary power build up.
"Hey, that's not fair. Those guys aren't supposed to be able to hurt us are they? Last time I was on a ship that encountered some pirates they were all inebriated. They thought there were two of the ship. Or does alcohol only affect humans in that way? Have any of you tried drinking human alcohol?"
Engineering: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

![]() |

"Spatial location and armament similarities indicate that this is likely the ship that brought down Unbounded Wayfarer. Even if they hadn't just neutralized our forward shield, I would say that they could hurt us."
Something will start glitching when we take 17 points of hull damage. (At every 20% of total hull points.)
Science officer can rebalance all the shields. Or Engineer can direct power to repair them.

helm check was 24, spoilered back on Aug 9th. I think shield repair is engineering; rebalancing, science officer.
If they go first, Tofana will try to keep out of their front arc, keep them in a side arc and stay in their rear arc.

Venture-Captain Arvin |

Ah! Yes, right you are. I was conflating the two actions.
BTW you are 1 hit point away from taking your first critital....
The lawblight decides to put some distance between itself and your weapons, and turns and moves away, putting it's starboard shields in your sights and moving 4 hexes.
You are up.

![]() |

Tofana's fingers dance over the console, trying to wrack Odyssey into a following turn.
Evasive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
If Lawblight went first, I'll try to get us into their rear arc again, and if possible match their heading, about 4 hexes behind them.
Whether or not Lawblight went, Aubrey is set to blast.
PR, sympathies on the rolls and your computer. Best of luck with both.

Venture-Captain Arvin |

It did move first... so it fires first....
Gyrolaser atk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 DMG: 1d8 ⇒ 8
coilgun atk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 DMG: 1d8 ⇒ 4coilgun atk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
They fire out with all of their rear facing weapons, striking your front arc with their gyrolaser. Fortunately, you manage to evade their coil gun through canny manoeuvring.
The shields that WayF managed to restore (5% of 150 is 7...?) and the laser burns into your hull... Please someone roll a d100 to see which system starts to glitch.....
Fire at will

Magnus Norvegicus |

Magnus snarls as sparks spray from his console, beating out a couple of small fires with his sleeve. He then aims his laser at the enemy ship's rear.
1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 = 13 to hit, damage 4d8 ⇒ (1, 4, 8, 7) = 20
Latheera ignores the fireworks from the weapon station next to her, and programmes another missile before letting it fly.
1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 = 19 to hit, damage 4d8 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 4) = 12
Taking two +1's from the computer - please take them away if they've already been used.

Venture-Captain Arvin |

81–100 Power core Condition applies to all engineer actions except hold it together and patch; A glitching power core applies a -2 modifier to engineer actions.
As Magnus and Latheera let rip with their weapons the rear shield of the pirate ship is torn away,m and the weapons slam into the hull. A series of small explosions rips through the ship from back to front followed a second later by a massive explosion as the ship is totally destroyed.
With your forward shields depleted, you take a few hits from as the remains are blasted out in all directions, but your ship remains intact.

Venture-Captain Arvin |

With the Lawblight defeated, you are free to return to Absalom Station with the information retrieved from the wreckage of the Unbounded Wayfarer.
Venture-Captain Arvin greets you with a warm smile as you disembark. “You can undergo the tedium of a complete debrief later. First, I’ve arranged for you all to enjoy a few days’ downtime in Kemanis, at the high-end clubs, theaters, and VR parlors. You’ve earned
it. But,” he warns, with a sly twinkle in his eye, “after that, it’ll be time to put you back to work.”
