Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
Let's knock him out. Then we wrap him up in a blanket or something. Then we simply bring him upstairs like a carpet or something, Erik does his magic if needed and we see where we go from there. Let's not forget to take some evidence and to move some of the equipment from the lab to another room.
Erik Copper |
Erik nods as the plan is made, and quickly ducks back into the shiver lab, grabbing the most offending and expensive pieces which he then ferries back to Devargo's room while the others in the group subdue their prisoner.
Nevynxxx |
Ok, placements on the map please. Still in the same init order, although lots of time has passed.
If you are in the room with Devargo:
Init
Init
Roj 11
Basil 10
Eric 8
Devargo 7
Bordan 7
Gwen 4
Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
Can't see the map, but if there's somebody to subdue Gwen is most likely there.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 +2 against humans
Nice ;-)
"Watch out, he's got a knife!"
Basil Kettering |
In response to Gwen's warning, Basil readies his sword.
"Well, we can't have that..."
I am not attempting to kill him (just yet), but if he looks hostile, things will go badly for him ;-)
Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
Gwen moves towards Devargo with a menacing look:
"Don't even think about it mister, or I'll kick your a$$ to next Tuesday"
If he makes any hostile move, Gwen will attempt to grapple him:
Grapple check: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 2 = 24
(If he's prone, perhaps he also gets a -4 penalty to his CMD?)
Nevynxxx |
(If he's prone, perhaps he also gets a -4 penalty to his CMD?)
Why would he be prone? You left him wandering his room while you went outside, and he was stood chatting before that. He is stood.

Erik Copper |
Erik's heart immediately leaps into his throat, and after taking a moment to compose himself, he dons an apron, puts on some work gloves, grabs a beaker and steps out of the doorway into the passage, looking up at the stairwell to see who approaches with an impatient, almost irritated look on his face.

Did you make the perception check? Also, as you are split from the others, spoilering that may have been good...
Erik Copper |
Oh, I misunderstood, I thought you had made the check for me. I'll roll now.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Erik Copper |
"What are you doing, coming down at this hour? His Highness and I were up all night developing an even more potent form of Shiver. He has only just now gone to bed. He gave explicit instructions that nobody was to disturb him this morning. When he is ready, he will emerge. Good day to you, gentlemen."
Rojerick Alandsson |
"Drop it, Devargo. Your empire's not worth your death."
Roj steps forward to H11, readying an attack.
If Devargo attacks anyone:
Scimitar Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage?: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
YAAAAY!
Nevynxxx |
"Still you talk. Talk talk talk talk talk. I am going nowhere. Whatever help it is you wanted is not coming. Means I can probably take you if I must. Would much rather you just wandered off now though. I am bored of this."
Basil Kettering |
"Enough of this. You arrogance is tiring. The scum that follow you might be able to take us, but we can at least ensure that you do not survive the experience."
Basil then tries to run the man through.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, for 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16 damage.
Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
"Oh s4!t, this is going south fast."
Gwen tries to knock Devargo out without killing him, hoping that Basil will be satisfied with that.
Attack, non lethal: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 - 4 = 242d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 4 + 2 = 17
Confirm critical, non lethal: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 - 4 = 132d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 + 2 = 15

Borden: Borden pulls out his longspear, following Basil's attack with a thrust of his own.
Borden Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Borden Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Roj: Roj Steps forward to H11, Swinging his scimitar in a wide arc.
Roj Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Roj Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Init
Init
Basil 12
Roj 11
Guard 10
Eric 8
Devargo 7
Bordan 7
Gwen 4
I'm tweaking basil's init as he acted, and everything else is a cascade from that. It seems the simplist option to just move him up.
Starting from the top:
Basil moves forward and swings at Devargo, who takes the hit full and staggers a bit. He doesn't though, go down.
Roj charges forward, but Devargo is able to dodge out of the way of the blow.
The sound of a shout and then footsteps can be heard and two guards burst into the outer room, and stop at the door way. Devargo shouts "Kill them!" then swipes back at Basil with his knife, but the blow glances off Basil's armour.
Bordan swings at the guard (unless someone wants him to take an AoO ;) but misses.
Gwen steps forward with her sword, and slams the flat of the blade into Devargo, knocking him out cold.
I need some response from Eric before we proceed to the next round.
Nevynxxx |
I'm confused. So my bluff check failed? I'd use Color Spray on the three guards before I let any of them run past me.
Ah, no, just took me that long to construct the post that we crossed! But yes, it would appear to have.
Just to be clear, your action in this round is your bluff check, which is a standard action. You technically get a move action too. The two other guards action was to run off, this ones was to step forward and attack.
Erik Copper |
Rojerick Alandsson |
Wooo!
"For the Sun, and the Fury!" Roj turns on his heel, moving toward the door to block the oncoming guards. As he reaches the first one, he swings his scimitar in an overhead stroke.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage?: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Dese rolls, dough! Back to H13 I go! I do provoke an AoO from Devargo, if you'd like to take it.
==========
Borden starts singing (chanting, reciting, I don't know?) the Saga of Eulfric the Ulfen Explorer, an oldie but goodie, as he steps to H12.
Inspire Courage, 5-foot-step, end actions. Don't forget your bonuses in the future, guys!
Erik Copper |
Basil Kettering |
Basil turns around, and attempts to take out a guard.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24, for 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14 damage.
Basil Kettering |
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, for 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13 additional damage.
Basil glares at Gwen.
"What's the point in keeping him alive? He was completely confident that if we took him in, he would be back out on the streets quickly, regardless of what evidence we gathered - he has powerful friends, who would ensure that our overworked, understaffed Guard would be forced to let him out, regardless of what they wanted.
Kill him, and the particular problem posed by him goes away, permanently." He turns and looks at the others. "Do any of you want him back on the streets? Peddling more of his filth, and destroying how many hundreds, if not thousands, of more lives? How can any of you live with that?"
Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
"You're right, you're right. I know you're right. It's just... I don't know, it felt wrong to just kill him when he didn't attack us. I'm not that cold-blooded, that's all. Anyway, now he's out cold, we can get rid of these mooks and proceed with our plan, right?"
Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
"Oh do shut up. Your boss is out cold like a frozen fish. If you know what's good for you you'll just turn on your heels and never come back."
Basil Kettering |
Basil shakes his head.
"The plan has too many variables, and if any step goes wrong, he will get off scot-free. I don't make the decision lightly, but I would rather that one man died by my hand, than having to live with the knowledge that hundreds died, and countless other lives were ruined, because I did not have the resolve to do what needed to be done."
Nevynxxx |
Dese rolls, dough! Back to H13 I go! I do provoke an AoO from Devargo, if you'd like to take it.
No, he's proper unconscious not just prone. Non-lethal damage exceeds lethal.
The gurds are also just through a doorway, so you can't all get at them. Basil is first in the Init, so I'll take his action as a move forward to get the guard.
The first guard goes down with Basil's sword still embedded somewhere in his abdomen.
The second guard Steps forward over the body, and attacks Basil.
Atk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22DMG: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Inspire Courage, 5-foot-step, end actions. Don't forget your bonuses in the future, guys!
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 91d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 but doesn't manage to hit.
Outside another two run past the door.
Eric, and Gwen's actions.
Guinevere "Gwen" Duchamp |
I suspect the map is not updated so I can't see exactly what options Gwen has. Is the door blocked by G2? Can Gwen attack him after a five foot step? If so, then:
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 92d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6) + 4 + 2 = 17
Wow, a perfect miss.
If the guard is not blocking the door, Gwen will instead take a withdraw action, moving at double speed to go help Erik, who's probably in big troubles right now.
