That could be the case too! I've found out through past experience that if someone tries talking to me when I'm half/mostly asleep there's only maybe a 50% chance that I'll remember the conversation later when I wake up.
I’m the same way. Evidently it can be hilarious talking to me early in the morning.
I was once told by my boss of the time that I had (correctly) diagnosed a customer issue that morning. I couldn’t even remember that my boss had called me. I had to be briefed all over again on the problem — and evidently gave almost exactly the same response.

Deseri |

Hehe :) I liked the story. I tend to babble about my PbP games way to much at my nerdy friends.
Also obey the words of the GM! Long lifespans are achieved that way.

Harmose Al-Nefer |

I enjoyed the story too.

Kito the Scholar |

I agree, leveling based on when the story says is the way to go. Tracking XP really doesn’t serve much purpose when playing through an AP like we are.

Polux |

Completely agree!
Unless you are playing Rolemaster :D

Turel Garaldo |

Guess I will have to be the one he he...
I still think we should use XP here as it gives the DM moe chances to award bonus XP for good RPing, or completing side quests, or any other such things. Also since we are a party of eight and the AP was written for a four person party we may become overpowered as we progress further.
Just my two cents here...I will go with the flow, as it were :)

Kito the Scholar |

Using XP doesn’t fix the CR problems because power growth tends to be exponential.
We are already under WBL, being lower level than expected is likely to be very dangerous because the group just wouldn’t have the expected durability or resources. The skill DCs are based on assumed level and not all those checks will allow for Aid Another. The saving throws will also be set for an expected level, and having more in the group will not necessarily take care of that when we hit things with paralyzing auras and such.
I could go on, but the point is that using XP doesn’t guarantee that the challenges will be appropriate to this group.

I generally don't beef up encounters from 4 party to 8 party size, with a few exceptions like the Scorched Hand, which really needed to be a tough fight for dramatic purposes since it was the ending of a book. But most mook fights on the way, I just leave as-is. So I wouldn't worry about things getting too tough.
So far it seems four vs one in favor of ditching XP. Thanks to Turel for voicing the dissenting opinion, it's always good to have both perspectives.

Deseri |

I agree with all the stated opinions. XP is a good way to encourage good role-play but is also tends to encourage murderhoboing. Though this group really does not need any encouragement for role-playing :)
In the game I am running I removed XP and I really like it even if some of the more old-school players I have prefer XP. Less focus on leveling up since the player cannot predict when it will happen or rush the process so I prefer this option.
Also I wanna try to get everyone in the hat!

Harmose Al-Nefer |

I have wanted us to switch to this method of leveling for a long time. Let’s just do it!
Hmm

Since there's nothing to be done at the Tooth & Hookah right now and the panic level is still high enough within the city that the folks at the Grand Mausoleum can't really help Ra-Khefer yet, is there anywhere in particular in the city we should go check on? Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple:
Meehr Zet's home
The Whispering Stone
The Naahn's home
Any others?

Kito the Scholar |

Kito would like to visit the Pharasmin temple first to ask how things are going and discretely check if anyone has seen Ptemenib. She dearly hopes it is coincidence that everything happened after he left the auction. Depending on what happens there, she may ask Turel if he can check with Bal about Ptemenib and mention how the undead appeared shortly after he left.
After that, Kito would advocate checking the general city locations (listed by Aleris above) next. That should help bring down the panic level a little more.
That said, Turel made an excellent case for investigating the Sanctum of the Erudite Eye.

Deseri |

The Naahn's is gonna be Deseri's first vote. Honestly the player forget but the character would want to check on them. Beyond that I am good with where ever.

Deseri |

I kinda excited too. I doubt my live table is gonna care though. They suck :(

Turel Garaldo |

I am not surprised this step was taken, as I thought the rules bloat was getting out of hand. I do think this has the potential to be a good revision, so I will reserve judgement until the play test rules are released.
I do hope there is a conversion guide for 1e to 2e but if not then I will improvise :D

Polux |

I'll wait cautiously.
For me Pathfinder has been a very (kinda) recent discovery - just last month I picked up Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition :P
What good things are we looking forward in the second edition?

So...this is probably a bit out of the blue, but conversation in a different game led me to write the following and I thought it deserved being posted here, too.
Oh I know! Maybe it's just me but I feel like if you (or anyone) takes the time to say something then you should get some sort of a response. It's obviously something I try to do in the games I play/GM, just like you do, but I think it's important to do it in OOC too. Now I mean, depending on what the topic is I might not be able to say much or offer anything more than a 'That sucks' or 'I don't know, sorry' but I've always thought that even an answer in the negative is better than deafening silence. In some ways I think it's even more important to do online than out in the real world because when you're online it's easy to forget that the other people you're interacting with are, well, real people. Maybe they've had a good day but maybe they've had a bad day and then having a question ignored or an RP post get little to no acknowledgement...it's always made me feel discouraged, so I'm sure I can't be the only person who feels that way.
I'm probably rambling a bit because I worked last night and haven't gone to bed yet but this sort of thing has been on my mind a lot since the GM who'd been running a homebrew Walking Dead-style game on the forums dropped off the face of the Earth right after Thanksgiving. This was a game that had been running pretty steadily for the last 3+ years with 4 of the 6 players having been involved in the game from the start, including myself. Our 4-year anniversary for that game would've been this month. Nearly 4 years playing together and she vanished without a trace and it hit me that I never even learned her real name or anything about her much, beyond the fact that she's from the Australia/New Zealand area of the world. There's no way for me to find out what happened to her or if she's okay...and that makes me very sad and it's also a shame.
So...same as Nidhi, my PM box is always open if anyone here ever feels the need to vent or talk. A couple of you already know how to get in touch with me outside of the forums but I'm also on Google Hangouts, Facebook, and email is a thing too. I use all of those options to touch base with people that I play with on the forums. And even if you prefer to maintain your privacy - which I DO understand, my husband is an extremely private person while I find it much easier to be confident and outgoing online - then just remember that you're all more to me than just sometimes serious, sometimes silly, words on a screen. You're all real to me, you all exist, and I do think about you guys - and lots of others - outside of the games we play here.
It's kind of a sappy, 'I love you guyyyyys' thing except without the alcohol? :)

Thank you, sweetie.
We've been in this game together for how long now? Three years? Four? I've lost track. To me, the rules system matters less than the characters and the story. Samy, you are a kick-ass GM and we love you. Everyone else, you are awesome players and we love you.
Hmm

You can imagine a cuddle happening. Cause that is what I want to do. Very well said.

Polux |

Thank you for the kind words Aleris :D
What happened to the game btw, are we on hold or something?

Deseri |

I think we are waiting for Samy to find all the bits of brain matter and skull that exploded from excitement when the second edition was announced.... This has happened to a few people.
And I mean that with affection to vitriol. She said it would be a little while so she could process. As I am moving that is fine with me. Also we found a house!

Polux |

Congrats Deseri! I know how hard that process can be... Will be moving again myself in about a month.
For the 5th time in 2-3 years...

Deseri |

Thank you Polux. Good luck when you move. This sucks. It is move four for me in the last three years. Less for my roomies.

Harmose Al-Nefer |

Good luck on both your moves!
I do hope that we all get over our 2e blues at some point soon. Playing games with people you love is the best antidote for all this worry, because you know that no matter what... the ruleset doesn’t matter. It’s the community that makes all the difference.
Hmm

There isn’t much in the world worse than moving. Last time I made a vow that I’d never move again until I could afford movers. Nine years later, I’m still in the same house!

Aleris Somciel |
Having to move one room's worth of stuff to and from college was enough of a pita and then it was even worse moving into our apartment once I got married. Moving sucks. -_-
Also seconding that I hope with a little time that people will come around to the idea of 2e or maybe figure out some sort of a plan to keep doing 1e stuff. I think the GM of our home game wants to try and wrap up our two ongoing campaigns (Rise of the Runelords & Wrath of the Righteous) before 2e launches, then we'll likely start fresh with 2e for the first 2e AP.

Deseri |

I hate moving! And my table is not likely to wanna change over. They are really stubborn about certain things. The three who have been gaming longer than me are big fans of 3.5 and two of them would rather be playing that. I would if it was Ebberon cause that one looks cool. 5e was vetoed as not wanting to spend more money even though he spends money on plenty of other systems. Another vetoed it cause it was to simple. Her rounds in combat take forever! Hopefully I get to try second edition out online.

Polux |

I just feel I have still a LOT of adventures and APs I would like to play or GM from the 1st edition.
