As was said earlier, you can pick someone else. We just don't know the difficulty of convincing someone else to bid.
Sounds like Aleris gets to pick someone and give it a try. As I said before, do not attempt it with Manaat, Iosep or Ptemenib. We know that Ptemenib will not buy. The other two are already at the worst case DC of 34.
That leaves Khammayid Okhenti (male human), Maru + Namaru Meshhoten (female humans), or Menya the Whip (male human).
Aleris should pick someone she thinks might be interested and try. Our chances are not great, but I hadn't expected us to get three bidders on this lot in the first place.
We still need Polux to Aid Another on Diplomacy with the Mehhotens for Lot 4. If he succeeds, we have three bidders. If not, we still got more than the base value of the items.

Aleris Somciel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Yeah, Aleris wasn't approaching the Four Lanterns again. Of the three other bidders that Kito mentioned we could try, I figured Menya the Whip would be the best bet. Khammayid wants weapons and there's no way the Meshhotens would want creepy masks, an ugly headband that's been who-knows-where, and a grody dead cat.

Kito the Scholar |

Alright, Lot 5 can be closed out. We have two bidders.
Waiting for Polux to attempt to Aid Another on diplomacy on Lot 4 with the Mehhotens.
Regardless, we are getting better than full value for the items sold in both of these lots.

Polux |

Polux the DIPLOMAT has arrived! :D

Kito the Scholar |

So, in summary we have 3 bidders on Lot 4 and 2 bidders on Lot 5.
Lot 4
1st person, Iosep, DC 25, Success!
2nd person, Masakhet & Karam, DC 22, Success!
3rd person, Mehhotens, DC 29, Aleris 26 +2 Deseri [ur="http://paizo.com/campaigns/MummysMask/gameplay&page=86#4279"]+2 Polux[/url] = 30, Success
We get 110% of value.
Lot 5
1st person, Baketra, DC 25 -- Success!
2nd person, Masakhet & Karam, DC 22, Success!
We get 105% of value.
---
Well done!
We will let Samy compose the post in gameplay of how it comes out and who walks away with these items.
Meanwhile we can work on the next lots.
If no one objects, I will do Lot 6, 7 & 8. Six will be weapons, 7 furniture, 8 scrolls and misc magic.
I would like to try and put everything remaining into those three lots.

Kito the Scholar |

I've got the three lots defined. Please look it over and feel free to suggest improvements. Some of the items didn't really fit the themes.
I anticipate Menya and Khammayid will be the main bidders on the weapons, although the Four Lanterns might also consider it.
I am not sure who might bid on lot 7, need to try several people I think.
Lot 8 I'm hoping we can get both Masakhet & Karam and The Four Lanterns to bid on. Given our group dynamics so far, we will likely choose to pass them by for a much more difficult sale.
Please look it over and make suggestions.

Harmose Al-Nefer |

Let's do all the lots all at once and move on. I'm with Aleris on this one. The Auction has run its course for me, and I have plenty to do here as one of the party faces!
Hmm

![]() |

I removed one mwk khopesh from lot 6 because it was already sold in lot 1, so the total for lot 6 has changed a little bit. In case anyone was tracking the exact numbers.
I won't have time to make the summary post for lots 4-5 in gameplay until tomorrow, but you can expect it then.
I'm double-checking a few items. You're going to sell the scarab shield and the +1 scale mail (lot 6) and a lot of scrolls and wands (lot 8)? Just double-checking that that is as intended?
I should be able to be on a daily posting basis for the next four nights so we can hopefully wrap up the auction.
Advance warning that I'm going on a trip Aug 11-25 and probably will be minimally available during that time, so expect game downtime or slowtime then.
Lot 6: Menya (highly interested), Khammayid (highly interested), Four Lanterns (highly interested)
Lot 7: ?
Lot 8: Masakhet/Karam (mildly interested), Four Lanterns (highly interested)

Harmose Al-Nefer |

I'm not a great mathematician -- in fact, I'm a really terrible one! I can't run the probability numbers like Kito can, so without a game plan I just rolled to get us moving.
THE SEMI-LAME HMM PLAN
We have bidders in the third position for Lots 6 & 8, which will make everyone's jobs finding other bidders for these lots easier.
I got Khammayid to bid in third place for Lot 6, so you guys should go for Menya and the Four Lanterns.
On Lot 7, Harmose had a really lousy roll, and only managed a 15 in the third position. Clearly, he should never carry coffee. It is not worth Aiding him -- let's just assume that we will not get Bidder 3. Someone else with a great diplomacy should take ten on another person, and everyone else should aid that attempt. Pick anyone but Ptemanib, and go.
On Lot 8, Harmose took Masakhet / Karam in Third Place. Someone should try to sell to the highly interested Four Lanterns, and then go for a random person because we have no idea who else might be interested here.
Let's get through this auction piece, and move on to the interesting stuff!

Kito the Scholar |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Alright, guess I better get busy on this.
Lot 6:
1st: Kito approaches Four Lanterns, DC 20
2nd: Aleris/Deseri approach Menya, DC 22
3rd: Harmose approaches Khammayid, DC 24, Success
Kito realizes many in the group are unwilling to even talk to the Four Lanterns so she will attempt it.
Lot 7:
1st: Aleris approaches Maru + Namaru Meshhoten, DC unknown
2nd: Deseri approaches Baketra, DC unknown
3rd: Harmose approaches Manaat, DC unknown
We adjust based on what the rolls are and how interested we find out these people are.
Lot 8:
1st: Kito approaches Four Lanterns again, DC 20
2nd: Aleris/Deseri approaches Manaat, DC unknown
3rd: Harmose approaches Mesakhat/Kharam, DC 29, Success
If Aleris/Deseri want to try Khammayid instead, that is fine. I honestly don't know which is the better choice here.
---
I will let this sit here a little while before attempting anything as Kito in case someone else has a better plan for some of this.

You know what, I'm gonna throw this out there. Based on your past performance, I'm gonna offer a 105% on all three lots. You can take that and forgo all the mechanics for the three lots. If you want to just fast forward. You give up the chance for 110% but 105% is pretty good.

Kito the Scholar |

I would be willing to take the 105% and move on. The auction is an interesting mechanic, but it isn't really adding that much to the story.
Thanks!

![]() |

We have 4 people for so far, so we're probably gonna get a majority. Once we have that settled I'll give the final tally but it looks like you'll get about 25k cash. Did you have an agreement on splitting it even eight ways or did you want to compensate somehow for who took the most items?
Next I'm gonna start combing the threads for posts where you said what items you wanted to be available. If you have time and want to help me out, feel free to link your posts about that here. Then we'll move to buying. I think we can skip the RP part for that since we've had a lot of mercantile RP already.

Given the amount of money we have, I would like to suggest we hold back for 2 wands of CLWs and one wand of Lesser Restoration.
The wand of Lesser Restoration is expensive, but I think may be worth it. I expect we will hit poisons, shadows, and other things that will make it worthwhile.
At the very least, we need to hold back enough for one wand of CLWs.

^ This plan is also backed by Harmose.
Here was Harmose's post about potential purchases.
I made a document (that should hopefully be editable by all) of buyable requests.
If you wanted something to be buyable that isn't on that list, then I wasn't aware of the request, ping me about it.
Thanks for being awesome, Samy!

So the plan was to roll Diplo for three items (per PC) that you wanted to be available. I've found the three rolls for Aleris, Harmose and Deseri but didn't find rolls for the other five characters. I recommend putting up some rolls (you can do so in this thread) for items you want to see at the auction. (Or if you already rolled and I missed the post, can you point me to it?) Past those rolls, the buy offerings will be totally random. ;)
I have now taken into account the rolls by Aleris, Harmose and Deseri, and the following items at least will be available at the auction:
headband of charisma +2
mnemonic vestment
efficient quiver
handy haversack
gloves of reconnaissance
wand of protection from evil (50 charges)
The price for all items, unless otherwise stated, is normal by-rules price.
The above list is of course not final, items will be added to the buyable list as other characters make rolls, and I will also add in some spices as well.

Turel Garaldo |

Turel would be more than happy to relinquish his share of the treasure to allow the others to purchase items they could not afford. We could also use his share for purchasing those wands as well.

:D
Okay I think we have enough support to seal the deal. You get 105% for lots 6-8. That means your final total for all sellables is:
25442.675 gold pieces.
Divided by eight, that would be 3180.334375 per character.
Let's round it up to say 3200gp per character.
So your final cash received for the auction is:
25600gp
or 3200gp/character
Whichever way you want to split it.

Qari Falexia |

3200 is good with me.
Qari is my first kinecticist, so does anyone have suggestions any kinecticist specific gear under four thousand gold? I figure at some point a belt of Dex and Con will be great, but is there any little class specific neato item I should know about?

Kito the Scholar |

Best to clarify this before everyone spends all their money.
If we reserve the money for two replacement wands of CLW, (750 gp ea), we would instead get 3200 - 187.5 = 3012.5 gp each.
If we reserve the money for two CLW and one lesser restoration (4,500 gp), we would instead get 3200 - 750 = 2450 gp each.
Wand CLW = 750 * 2 = 1500, /8 = 187.5.
Second option is 1500 + 4500 = 6000, /8 = 750.
---
Samy,
Here is a link where I posted the items Kito would be interested in.
I did Kn: Local for the rolls (+10), if we use Diplomacy the results would be either 3 less or 1 less -- the better value would be if it is considered Gather Information. Looks like we have at least one duplicate request anyways.

Polux |

Completely agree on reserving money for two CLW and one Lesser Restoration wand.
2450 each isn't much though to be honest - or is it just the greedy me? :P
I also wouldn't mind suggestions on purchases if you have them.
What I am considering at the moment:
- Boots, Daredevil Softpaws (1400 gold)
- Adaptive Composite Longbow (variable)
- Cloak of Resistance +1 (2000 gold)
- Longspear or armor to +1 (2000 or 1000 gold)
- Eyes of the Eagle (2500 gold)
- Hybridization Funnel (200 gold)

Kito the Scholar |

The wealth by level table suggests about 6k each at 4th level, 3k at 3rd. On the other hand, we have more characters than the AP is built for. Our attributes are also increasing much faster than normal.
I've never run something like this, so the following is just speculation.
Any battle requiring equipment appropriate to our level (magical weapons, better saving throws, creature has better to hit or better AC, creature is under CRed) will be problematic for this group. The better attributes will tend to mitigate some of this, but likely not enough to deal with DR and some other special abilities.
In a straight slug-fest against small numbers of monsters with no special abilities, we should come out fine because of our two extra actions per round.
In a battle against a boss creature with a lot of specials, we can quickly get into trouble.
Swarms are also likely to be a bigger problem.
As for your equipment, I would be looking for a magic weapon in your case.

Aleris Somciel |
Throwing out another vote/agreement on the two CLW wands and the Lesser Resto wand.
Also, since Aleris has both the Ring of Protection +1 and Akhentepi's Armor (since Deseri upgraded to something else if I remember correctly), I'm happy to put forth her share towards helping to purchase something for one of the other PCs. The Efficient Quiver and the Handy Haversack are basically just utility/flavor items so she can always pick something like that up later on :)

![]() |

Wealth by level indicates you should have found 48000gp of items by now. According to the treasure list document, you have found 58512gp of items, so well above wealth by level (and that's after halving the price of sellables like mwk weapons).
Items that have been claimed by specific characters total 32753gp, or 4094gp per character. So 4k out of the 6k wealth by level is already in your items. On top of that, you're now receiving the 3.2k cash, putting you at 7.2k per character, still comfortably above the 6k you should have when level 4 begins.

![]() |

List of buyables that you have spotted at the auction so far:
headband of charisma +2
mnemonic vestment
efficient quiver
handy haversack
gloves of reconnaissance
wand of protection from evil (50 charges)
pearl of power, 1st level (2 available)
cracked magenta prism ioun stone
adaptive composite longbow +1
upgrade kit for cold iron longspear, to +1
wand of cure light wounds (4 available)
+1 weapon (any)
+1 armor (any)
potions, notably, are absent at the auction
Qari, Polux, Ra-Khefer and Turel may still add to this list by rolling.
Personally I always prioritize the swarmbane clasp on my characters because I'm paranoid about swarms. That should absolutely not be taken as any comment on the likelihood of encountering swarms in this AP, however. (Largely because I genuinely don't remember.)

Polux |

Samy is there any chance we could roll Knowledge (Local) or something else different than Diplomacy to upgrade our gear? I get the feeling I've been rolling Diplomacy or Charisma for a LOT of stuff since we started... And Polux is definitely not Cha based/focused :D
Or even if we cannot use something different from Cha because of the specific instance where we are at the moment (the auction), or if we simply don't want to because our characters would not be 'mingling' to upgrade their gear, could we perhaps later or as an alternative actually scour Wati, again maybe using Kn. Local or Gather Info, to find the gear we require?
On top of it, if this here (auction with social interaction) would be the single instance for gear upgrades (or our best shot at it), could we instead rely on those that are willing/inclined/welcome such situations to assist us? Because if that is the case, it would make so much more sense that Polux spoke with Harmose, Aleris or Deseri, and if they would be willing to assist, he would let them know what he was looking for.
I'm just saying that the mechanics of it penalizes those who do not have Cha/Diplo reliant characters - and not being able to enlist the more 'social' characters defeats the 'group effort' logic (imagine we were in a Viking settlement where if you wanted to upgrade your gear you would have to perform 'individual' feats of strength :P).
What I am saying is that I don't think Polux would 'socialize' or 'diplomatize' to improve his gear or make purchases (he could make an attempt at it for other reasons, but no for gear) - he would simply leave.
In any case:
Diplomacy Adaptive Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 // +5 to this if the bonus from Empiricist would make sense.
Diplomacy Longspear upgrade to +1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 // +5 to this if the bonus from Empiricist would make sense.
Cloak of Resistance +1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 // +5 to this if the bonus from Empiricist would make sense.

adaptive composite longbow +1 found!
upgrade kit for cold iron longspear, to +1 found!
cloak of resistance not found! :(
Polux, you may consider your roll to represent inspecting the auction lists and skulking around and listening for rumors about upcoming items, or whatever works best fluffwise. Your character doesn't need to "socialize" to improve their chances.
The skill you use is ultimately unimportant...in this particular case I generally look at which items you got your personal best and worst rolls for, so the skill modifier is not that significant. I didn't want to have a situation where Harmose gets all three items he's looking for and others get zero. Doubly so because there isn't a lot of shopping opportunity in this adventure, so I wanted everyone to have a good chance to shop before that.

Kito the Scholar |

Would someone who hasn't used all their rolls please check for the wand of lesser restoration? I don't mind the idea of a swarmbane clasp either.
As for WBL, I had forgotten to figure in what we already had. Oops! That makes a big difference.

Deseri |

Someone in melee should totally get the swamp bane thing! Swarms even when not common suck. As do constructs. I compleatly forgot about the Golem Bane thing.
Handy haversack and bags of holding are so needed by adventures. I am perfectly find forgoing the things I wanted for party loot. The gloves of reconnaissance are just really cool :) And the wand of Protection from Evil seems like it would be usful but if no one else wants it I say we get.
But the cure wands and the lesser restoration wand are defiantly needed.

Qari Falexia |

I'm fine with kicking in gold to buy the requested wands. Qari' blast does damage against swarms, so I can't think of anything I really need. I could request the haversack, if we think carrying capacity might become important.

I think Polux will be going for the +1 upgrade kit and some pocket money for other mundane stuff ;)

Diplomacy, Swarmbane Clasp: 1d20 ⇒ 2

Qari Falexia |

Diplomacy haversack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Diplomacy Quick Runner's Shirt1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Aleris Somciel |
Okay, since it seems like everyone is more or less in favor of getting the two healing wands and the Lesser Restoration wand that means everyone gets 2,450 gp each yes? (I'm hoping Turel's roll was good enough for the Lesser Restoration wand to show up but I suppose we'll see).
With that said, is there anything that someone really wants/needs but can't afford on their own? As I said, Aleris will chip in some of her share towards buying other things if need be.

Kito the Scholar |

Sounds good. I'll put something in gameplay to bid on the wands.
Kito is going to bid on the Cracked Magenta Prism (800 gp) and one of the Pearls of Power (1000 gp) for herself.

![]() |

Ýes, the lesser restoration wand shows up. Ra-Khefer rustles up a cloak of resistance (the +1 armor was already available), Qari the quick runner's shirt and Turel the wand of lesser restoration. With that, this is the available purchase list.
Turns out the wand of lesser restoration is 750gp instead of 4500gp because it's a paladin lesser restoration. And because I'm nice. Have a little money to spread around, thus.
headband of charisma +2
mnemonic vestment
efficient quiver
handy haversack
gloves of reconnaissance
wand of protection from evil (50 charges)
pearl of power, 1st level (2 available)
cracked magenta prism ioun stone
adaptive composite longbow +1
upgrade kit for cold iron longspear, to +1
wand of cure light wounds (4 available)
wand of lesser restoration
quick runner's shirt
cloak of resistance +1
+1 weapon (any)
+1 armor (any)
potions, notably, are absent at the auction
I could do some work to flesh out the list some more if there was need, but I doubt you guys are going to have an awful lot of money left after buying the above so why bother. :D
After buying two CLW and one LR wand (3*750gp, as noted above), that subtracts 2250gp from the party pool, which was 25600gp. That leaves everyone with 2900gp per character instead of the earlier noted 2450. (I rounded down a little, from 2918, because I like even numbers.)
So now you have
2 * wand of cure light wounds
1 * wand of lesser restoration
2900gp per character
I would ask everyone to post, as Kito did, their explicit shoppings, including the item price. This is the time to finalize everything. No "I'm looking for so and so" anymore. Tell me what you buy.
Then the auction is done and we move on to different kinds of scenes. Although as I (think I) mentioned a few days back, I'm going on vacation Aug 10-25, so we'll probably hit everything in earnest when I get back.

Qari Falexia |

I'll buy the Quick runner's shirt for 1000 gold. I'll adjust the other gold to 1900 after buying that and paying my share of the divine wands.

Aleris Somciel |
Okay, for the time being this is what I'll go with for Aleris:
She will bid on/purchase the Efficient Quiver for 1800gp. This leaves her with 1370gp and some pocket change; if someone needs a little help purchasing something that they'd like for themselves she'll contribute towards that with her leftover money. If no one says anything or takes the offer then she'll just hang on to what's left of her cash for the time being :)
