Aleris -- a breath of fresh air!

Gotta love these love triangles right?
Between Aleris-Harmose-Regina, Aleris-Harmose-Turel, and potentially Aleris-Tuneya-Izola... we're kinda verging on a three-dimensional construct :P
I certainly didn't expect that Aleris would get this much interest/attention when I made the character. To be honest, I expected there to be a lot more 'exotic' character submissions for the game, given that all sorts of races were open that normally aren't for a lot of games on here; especially changelings, catfolk, ratfolk, androids, lashunta, dhampir, and samsaran. Instead, there's a bunch of human natives, Regina who (aside from her unsettling manner) seems to pass for a human quite easily, and Aleris who sticks out like a sore thumb :P
Oh, and if this were a tv show or movie, fan fiction writers would have a field day with the character relationships ;)
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose has enough weirdness in his backstory that I had to have something normal about him. So he's human.
I figure that our mythical fans have already shipped all the relationships we've flirted with, and a few we haven't... I'm sure that someone is shipping Camus and Turel, because fans are like that.
And given that all the PCs like women, interest in a pretty exotic foreigner is not surprising. There's been interest in Regina too. I have no idea that Regina isn't human, and didn't know you were an outsider until you told me. The only member of the party who can identify races is Tuneya. None of the rest of us have Knowledge Local.
As far as we're concerned, you're both human. And hot.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Woke up sick today, with a head that feels muggy. I think that someone has wrapped my entire brain in itchy wet wool. Ugh.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Feeling a little better. Hoping all of you are well.
Camus, you provide me with so many RP challenges! Please keep in mind that any snarkiness that happens is directed at the character rather than the player. As Aleris said, such drama!
BTW, it just occurred to me that the entire conversation with Camus likely went out over that message spell... Sigh.

TUNEYA
Thanks for the lecture. That was hilarious and soooo in character! I want to see your letter!
Alas, I still feel out of it. If I took my brain off leash today, it would just sit there and pant. Thank goodness I'm not contagious over wi-fi.

I think that part of the reaction to your post may have been use of the word, "malicious," in it. Given that you've just told us you intended to be your normal goofball self, that might have been an off-word choice.
I think that what your character meant was "mischievous."
"Malicious" = full of bad intent and ill-will, bullying
"Mischievous" = someone who teases and makes fun. Usually no harm intended.
Both words can be used to indicate a trouble-maker, but there are shades of difference and meaning between the two.
I think we'll keep it that both Harmose and Aleris misread your character's actual intent, though. That happens in real life all the time.
TRUE STORY OF A GLARING LINGUISTIC MISTAKE
I think I already mentioned that India Studies was one of my two college majors, right? I was an exchange student in Pune, India and my Marathi was normally very good.
I intended to tell my host family, "Brandon and I are going to go shopping at the market."
What I really said was: "Brandon and I are going to go sell ourselves at the market." Yep, selling yourself has the same connotations in Marathi that it does in English.
I had two aged aunts rolling on the floor with laughter, with tears in their eyes saying, "We hope you get a good price!"
Camus de Sable
Hhhmm interesting, I may have not used the correct word on that regard. In spanish we say "malicioso" which has both the intent of mischievous and/or malicius depending on the context. There is not an "exact" word for mischievous so that may have led to may confusion.
On the other is perfectly possible to misunderstand a "mischievous smile" for a "malicius smile" while looking at someone and it lead to interesting roleplay so no harm done :).
Aleris Somciel
Don't worry Camus, Aleris forgives most things pretty easily. With that apology (delivered only as Camus could deliver it) she'll lighten up after she's had some time to calm down.
Even if he keeps calling her by that nickname ;)

Ah, my brain could get up and walk around after all. Not the same quality as the Tomb Dig, but not bad!
Source: Hotel California
In a desert necrop'lis, cool wind in our hair
The sound of lips smacking, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, we saw a doorway of stone
The sand lay heavy, our sacks filled to the rim
We had to clear the whole site!
A scorpion in the doorway;
We caused its death knell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then we lit up some torches, the map showed us the way
There was writings on the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...
Welcome to the Tomb of Akhentepi
Such a gloomy place (Such a gloomy place)
Such a doomy space
Plenty of room at the Tomb of Akhentepi
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You can find it here
Another stone door-twisted, and sweet Regina cackling bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty ghouls she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called to Tuneya
“Please find me some traps”
She said, “We haven’t found any here since we last called it wraps,”
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
Welcome to the Tomb of Akhentepi
Such a gloomy place (Such a gloomy place)
Such a doomy space
Searching our way through the Tomb of Akhentepi
With walls of stone (yes, walls of stone)
Bring your impact foam
Murals on the ceiling,
Better check for traps twice
Samy said "You are all just prisoners here, of your own device"
In the tomb’s inner chambers,
Ghouls gathered for the feast
We stab it with our steely knives,
But we just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax, " said GM Samy,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave! "

It just occurs to me that Regina has a starring role in just about every one of my songs. Why is that?
Harmose Al-Nefer
That must be it. BTW, I have not had nearly enough of my creepy Regina fix lately...
I so love everyone of Regina's posts.
Regina dei Dannati
I'm busy having a social life, dearies.
:-)
Harmose Al-Nefer
Happy to see you back, Samy!
So... Regina dare I ask what the social life* of a Queen of darkness consists of? Or maybe we'll all find out. I have a feeling that Harmose would not find it to his liking.

Okay, sorry about being gone a few days, settling back in and should have a post soon.
Good thing you came back! So now can I ask for some inquiry, any way you can hide the parts of the map we havent explored yet? i feel metagamy when i already know more or less what i will find in corridors, I feel my chars decisions are compromised
Harmose Al-Nefer
Our characters have a map. The map can always be wrong.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Harmose Al-Nefer
So... How do we want to record treasure? Will there be a GM-supplied treasure log, as what appears on PFS Pathfinder chronicles? Or should the players create an ongoing spreadsheet?
As Harmose has noted in his gameplay post, the treasure found so far has largely been intangible -- findings of historic, if not actual value.
It is likely that we can do wall and door rubbings in exchange for better future library access for Tuneya. They might even fetch a small monetary value. There's also the still largely intact trap parts.
And we of course found the two alchemical fires, which I hope that Camus will hang on to. I'm still remembering the "swarms" from the movie the Mummy.
So even though we haven't found anything of obvious monetary value, we probably should start a treasure log anyway.
Thoughts?
Camus de Sable
Well in my parties we normally have an "accountant" who keep tracks of those things and who is in charge of distributing the loot later on when needed.
We also have a "cartographer" and a "leader" which makes final decisions, its not mandatory but its a nice way to get organized.
Harmose Al-Nefer
At the moment, we have three official OOC notetakers -- Turel, Regina and myself. We could all serve OOC as accountants, once the group agrees what format the treasure log should be.
We don't currently need an IC cartographer because Tuneya covered us beautifully by gettting a map off the horny sage.
As for leader, Harmose has been treating Tuneya as one while we're in this tomb. IC, she is the most experienced tomb raider of the lot of us.
But I haven't felt a need so far to have a leader designated officially. We're a team, and have so far been great at working together as one despite all the love triangles.
Aleris Somciel
Most games I've been in usually have one or more of the players keeping track of loot, sometimes via an editable Google document and sometimes some other format. We'll also need to decide how we want to handle things such as coinage (individual shares, group funds, etc.) and the distribution of magic items.
As far as a 'leader' goes, Aleris has been defaulting primarily to Tuneya's judgement in the tomb for the same reason Harmose has. But otherwise yeah, I'm not sure that we need a designated leader.
And welcome back Tuneya :)
Regina dei Dannati
But otherwise yeah, I'm not sure that we need a designated leader.
I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that, my pretty.
Harmose would be so disappointed.

"Why would I be disappointed?"

Oh, come now, dear, you're our most enthusiastic participant. You've got the face. You've taken a leadership role by falling back and allowing others the spotlight. It's quite masterful, I must admit. I'm watching you closely for pointers, darling.
No irony or sarcasm is intended. I think Aleris is actually right, and we're working very well together without a de facto leader. Sometimes Regina says things that surprise me. :-)

Harmose pauses and considers Regina's words. "Very well. If leadership consists of cowering in the back and encouraging others to use their many varied talents, than I suppose you can call me a leader."
He grins mischievously. "Or we can accept that we are actually an autonomous collective."

I think the 3 "official" documenters and GM Samy should be able to move the icons around. Hopefully this helps.
Harmose Al-Nefer
Regina, will I need to download the official drawing app to move my marker around using my iPad?
EDITED to ADD: Or maybe there isn't an official google app for this? How odd. There's one for everything else.
Regina dei Dannati
@Harmose, if you have a Google Documents document open, and you hit "File, New...", do you see "Drawing" as an option?
That's how I created this. I would be surprised if you needed to download anything to make the magic happen.

Do you do Google Hangouts, Regina? We could try to take my tech support issues there and try to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Yep, I can move the tokens around. Thank you so much for taking the initiative and doing the Google Drawings battlemap for me, that took a load off my shoulders.
Man, it is intimidating to log on and see (15 new), (19 new).
I will take care of a treasure log of major finds in a fashion similar to the experience points log. So far you have not found anything worth noting on my level. If you want to keep separate track of smaller finds, you may create a separate document for keeping a log of trinkets. ;)
Harmose Al-Nefer
We'll happily let you do treasure, Samy.
