Vincent drinks his alchemical allocation extract, then drinks his potion of heroism and spits it back out. He also drinks his extract of heightened awareness.
The party sits in a circle as Vincent begins to chant the incantation with Howard, Leonard and Seamus supporting him.
"We, The Seekers, are bound by a common purpose - the thirst for knowledge."
Vincent knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 19 + (2) = 24
He then passes the miniature ivory and horn staircase to Howard, who feels eager of its 70 steps. The continuous flame lights seem to dim.
"We have gathered this very night in order to open the gate to the Dreamlands."
Vincent knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 19 + (5) = 26
Howard passes the miniature ivory and horn staircase to Leonard, who feels eager of its 70 steps. The miniature ivory and horn staircase is now heavier.
"For beyond lies the knowledge we seek."
Vincent knowledge planes: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 19 + (4) = 37
Leonard passes the ivory and horn staircase to Seamus, who feels eager of its 70 steps. Seamus realizes the staircase has now grown bigger.
"Let the portal open between this world and the Amberwind"
Vincent knowledge planes: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 19 + (1) = 33
Seamus passes the now glowing with faint yellow light staircase back to Vincent, who feels each of its 70 steps.
Vincent takes a deep breath, then drops the stairscase in the center of the ring made by the party.
Vincent knowledge planes: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 19 + (2) = 26
Then yellow smoke emits from the staircase as the world fades away...
GM Mort |
The party finds themselves lying in their cabin on board the Sellen Starling, except that it is now morning and they have no gear on them. They feel slightly tired, as if they didn’t sleep very well last night. They look outside the window to see that the Sellen Starling is sailing on the river.

Vincent knowledge geography: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Vincent realizes the Sellen passage does not seem to be following the expected course, as though the Sellen Starling has gotten lost.
Vincent also spots that the waters of the rivers seem unusually clear and teem with iridescent fish. He realizes that the fish are harmless but not native to the Inner Sea region. Vincent also spots a heard of flabby, waddling quadrupeds that look like elephants with short trunks and small ears, which he also identifies are not native to the inner sea region.
Vincent knowledge planes: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 19 + (3) = 31
Vincent realizes that even though it looks like they are still in Golarion, on the Sellen Starling, the party is currently in the Dreamlands, on the Dreamlands version of the Sellen Starling.
What do you do now?
GM Mort |
Howard does not even have the rod to identify for that matter...nor can he find his spellcomponent pouch on him.
I told you you guys woke up without gear
Seamus Passeri |
'Crap I don't have any gear.' feeling around his pockets and pouches, Seamus then looks at the others. "Hey we don't have any gear." He then begins looking around the strange version of the ship to see what gear there is that he can use.
do you want perception rolls looking for hear?
GM Mort |
Seamus walks out onto the deck and finds a seachest at the aft containing all their gear. Vincent notices Captain Skywind is gazing at the horizon distractedly and tilting her head, as if listening to a sound no one can hear.
Take 10s are fine.
Once the rod and his spellcomponent pouch is passed to Howard, Howard identifies the rod as a Rod of Lordly Might. The party quickly requips their gear and also spot an amber sailed ship pursuing them, which they can make the name Amberwind on the ship’s prow.
Seamus taps everyone with his wand to heal them.

Fly and/or Monstrous Physique to get across?

Skywind snapsback her head and howls, her lips elongating and darkening as her mouth bristles with fangs. In a heartbeat, the Dreamlands reflection of the little captain becomes a hulking beast of shadow, claws and teeth.

Will assume it's still flat-footed since I inspired init and go first. Also am I right in assuming when we arrived there was not time to drink my mutagen and activate barkskin? Or to do so before entering dreamlands. Fatigue penalty is factored in for att and dmg.
Vincent Arazeiros |
Howard, supposedly ship is coming in 6rds so we won't have to get across? Also I have both those spells but not infusions so I can make myself fly but not anyone else, unless you do. Earlier:
Upon waking Vincent immediately tells Howard, though not hiding it from the others, about the nightmare. Based on their knowledge of the animate dream, he thinks it might be the nightmare spell or another of the creature's doing. He shrugs at the fatigue but is still concerned, It has a nasty attack, and it may still be around. If we are attacked while outside our bodies it could be the end of us.
GM Mort |
You can drink mutagen and barkskin, before you enter the stairwell, that is allowed.

We'll say the ship is now 150 ft away from you and getting closer, but there's a strange fog that's following the ship - so you can't really see, besides the shape of the ship, who or what is pursuing you.
Please state your buffs, and on the start of the fifth round, Leonard + Vincent up first - they will see 8 humans in half plate and wielding longspears,30 ft away.
Leonard Giles Neithan |
Quick post now between classes to give actions, will fill in more later
Also, will have cast defending bone before entering dreamlands
Leonard wakes up in the dreamlands quiet and still, no familiar weight of another concious body in the back of his mind. He follows the group around groggily, everthing snapping back into focus when he straps Angiliath back on.
Now
"Right, opposing forces getting closer." In a now familiar move, the tatoos on Leonard's left arm begin to dance, and several images extend out in all directions.
Images: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
He then touches his chest and closes his eyes, a light appearing from beneath his shirt when he takes his hand away. It seems to move faintly, winking in and out of existence.
Activating flight hex
Ascending ten feet into the air, Leonard draws his wand, activates shield, then puts his wand back in the sheath.
Shield, stow.
Ascending another five feet into the air, Leonard begins to chant an ever faster rythm, a wave of power radiating out and towards his compainons.
Haste
I'd probably also prepare scorching ray for setting fire to their sails, probably instead of frigid touch. Who needs frigid touch anyway, right?
Elephants?
Howard Phillips Lovecraft |
Earlier, with Vincent:
Howard nods thoughtfully.
"In that case, maybe you should join my nightly vigil, at least for a few days, until it loses interest..."
Now:
Howard smirks, and starts casting Invisibility (from the wand) on the party.
Howard, Vincent, Leonard, and Claude, respectively, in the four rounds that we have.
Leonard Giles Neithan |
Misread four rounds as five rounds, so I suppose that means no stowing the wand.
Leonard looks over the 8 heavily armored humans, deciding it's best to fly over them and remain invisible. "Vincent, you coming?"
Leonard will fly forward about sixty feet, until over top of the enemy ship, assuming that Vincent gives a verbal response of some sort.
Vincent Arazeiros |
Vincent grunts and sets to work, pulling out his rapier as he does.
He takes the following extracts: Monstrous Physique, Shield, Long Arm, and Alchemical allocation (Vorq feeds him the potion of bull strength which he spits back out).
Good idea. he says to Howard as he uses the wand.
The following were used prior to entering: ablative barrier (8hrs), mutagen, and barkskin (80min). Heroism also, but it has 30m or so left due to ritual.
Vincent flexes in his new form, with the mutagen and potion flowing through him. He nods to Leonard and moves with him, charging the rapier prior to closing. 30ft fly speed for me, but 60ft with haste.
GM Mort |
The fog clears and Leonard and Vincent see 8 humans in half plate wielding longspears on board the opposing ship.
Leonard and Vincent up, slide 21
Vincent Arazeiros |
And Howard yes? He got one higher on init. Is the ship close enough for nonflyers to board or is the ship still 30ft away?
GM Mort |
Yeah sorry, Howard too, didn't see that one properly. It's still 30ft away. But that doesnt mean you flying lot can't be trolls.
Vincent Arazeiros |
first impulse, wait till they board then drive off with their ship lol
GM Mort |
You could try =)
Vincent notes that there's no one steering the ship! It seems to be steering itself!

Benefit: When making a full-attack action with a ranged weapon, you can fire one additional time this round at your highest bonus. All of your attack rolls take a –2 penalty when using Rapid Shot.
By using Bardic performance as a move action, you lose your ability to full attack and thus cannot use rapid shot.

Invisibility not factored. If Vincent decides to flank with me, that's not factored either. Attacking yellow puts us in a good position to not get outflanked if the others come at us, and also lets us fight from high ground.
GM Mort |
Leonard slices into the half plated human twice (yellow) injuring him. His third strike is turned away the crewman unusually thick skin, which on closer examination, resembles a tree bark.
Invisibility bonus counted, but no flank.
27 dmg done to yellow

And I'm waiting for Vincent to post before he starts complaining I skipped his turn again...

Typo, Slide 20. Now why didn't anyone tell me earlier...sigh. Invisible will only apply to first attack , then you turn visible.
GM Mort |
No flank, but that's just trying to maximize the number of attacks you get. We'll say you land on the ship so you don't have to make hover checks. Your claws are at 10 ft, your sting and bite at 5 ft since long arm said limbs, not your head or stinger.
Vincent bites and stings the man next to him, killing him, then turns to the others (red) and (purple)
He stabs red through his stomach, then his heart, instantly killing him.
He then stabs purple though his shoulder then rips him apart with his claws.

Vincent finishes off one of his attackers, and badly wounds the other.
Reason being the third rapier iterative missed, due to not having the +4 bonus from investigator study on it, and all the following attacks after that took -4 less dmg.
Vincent Arazeiros |
np. In future let's do weaker attacks with studied first so if it runs out damage is more flat line, since rapier gets full str and PA. Basically reverse order. I'll post that way next time.

Leonard sends a long crackle of electricity down his sword, stepping towards the armored humans and reaching out to stab them.
Casting Shocking grasp, autosuceed concentration, 5' step onto stairs and swift action give myself extra reach. Attack the injured guard first, then direct other attacks at the other one if he dies.

Vincent's sting and 2 claws miss the creature and due to the creatures unusual anatomy, Vincent does not manage to hit any of the vital spots.
Nontheless in a flurry of rapier stabs, he manages to drop the captain.
You basically did 121 without crits on, and you did need to use every attack to take down that guy.
Seamus Passeri |
'Wow, Vincent turned into quite the killing machine.' His expression shifting from wincing to smiling and back to wincing again as his friends decimate the armored foes. Seamus continues singing his happy little song.
'Well, since that's a hat, I'm going to assume that's the captain.' Continuing his song as he sees the captain and what looks like a ghost of some sort come on deck, he watches as his friends have difficulty but eventually kills the captain.
'Just the undead thingy, I wonder what it would think of 'daylight'? Smiling Seamus casts Daylight onto his buckler and shines it at the ghost thingy. edit: His smile turning to a frown as the bright light appears to have no effect.
inspire +2, standard action: Casts daylight

Seamus. Daylight does nothing.
