Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Seamus sticks his lights and his head out of the hallway to see one of the storage room doors now open, and the man in yellow robes now lying in a pool of his own blood, with four crossbow bolts sticking out of his chest. His eyes are closed, his complexion gray and he isn’t breathing.

He also sees the guards helping a brown haired woman in a white shirt and brown breeches that is now stained with streaks of dirt over the barricade.

Seamus turns back to the others, calling, "Hey, they shot the crazy guy that got away from the chains and I think their friend Baisily is back, we should probably check her with an arrow to make sure it's really her."

Seamus goes to the quarrel filled body and attempts to tell if he is still alive or if he is dead.

In the name of we search and loot everything…le sigh.
The party returns to the ruined hallway to find the man in yellow robes now lying in a pool of his own blood, with four crossbow bolts sticking out of his chest. His eyes are closed, his complexion gray and he isn’t breathing. Vincent investigates the female body they saw earlier, half buried in the rubble.

Vincent – feel free to retcon any CLW used

He spots a pearl necklace on her, and tries to hook it up with his longspear, but as does so, he touches the body(yellow border), causing the entrails to thrash violently to life, tearing the corpse apart, sending the head flying and the hands crawling out to grasp him.

yeah, if he can't find a pulse, Seamus would assume he's dead...

'well, I think he's dead...' Seamus walks down to the guards and asks. "Hey we've killed two of the doppel-bangers and found three others dead. Oh and two ghouls."

Nearing the barricade he asks. "Can we speak to your friend Baisily to see what was back where she came from?"

Getting as close as he can, he whispers. "Are you guys sure it's her? I can let you use an arrow to check if you need one."

Seamus’s conversation sometime in the future

”Ok good – bring their bodies to us. Three bodies, that’s what the Captain said, and we’ll let you in.” One of the guards answers. ”Baisily came from out of the storage rooms. She’s been sleep walking again.” Another guard adds.

At Seamus’s suggestion, the guards give him aghast glares. ”Look, Campre vouched for your character but I’m beginning to think YOU have some screws loose. We are civilized people and do not go around using arrows on our friends.”

Waving, "If you don't want to use an arrow you can use a small dagger. Just prick her skin, if it's as soft as a humans you know she's herself and not a doppel-ganger."

'So I wonder how big their gang of doppels is anyway.' Seamus ponders as he returns to his friends...

The storeroom is badly damaged and is heaped with fallen shelves and broken containers and broken barrels. Inside the room heaped with fallen shelves and broken containers and broken barrels, the party finds 2 winter blankets, 4 lanterns and 3 jars of oil, 2 handaxes, a saw that survived the damage.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Bringing 3 doppelganger bodies as well as the chaplain-turned ghoul, Captain Vaust nods approvingly, ”Well, you’ve certainly done your part and proven who’s side your on. I will now do mine.” He then leads the party to Winter.

B3
This room was once used to store supplies and cleaning equipment and the southern room served as a rarely used office. It is now used as a gatehouse. A search of this room revelas two empty sacks, a box containing three tindertwigs, 3 flasks of oil, a hooded lantern and a crowbar. One of the desk contains a vial of ink, three splintery pens, and stacks of mundane work orders mostly directed at a Mr Finchley from Miss Deliadde. The name Brairstone Asylum is repeated dozens of time on forms and inexpertly printed stationery.

B5
Improvised pallets are clustered beneath sculpted divinities and cooking fires burn beneath the cracked windows in this chapel. Panes of violet and blue stained glass form spiralling patterns between prisonlike bars, while dozens of candles flicker from the modest alcove shrines. There 18 mats on the floor and the room is quite crowded with 18 other humans, with several children among them. Some are in orderly uniforms like Campre, and the rest in white tunics and brown breeches.

There are shrines to all Core Deities here and Baisily is here too

Campre waves cheerfully at the party, ”Hey! You made it here as well! Winter fixed me up and now I’m helping out. Care to lend a hand?”

Winter, with Fluffy following dutifully at her feet addresses the party, ”I see that you have helped us get rid of doppelgangers. If we can help you, and if you have any questions, please ask, though our resources are modest.”
Then Winter turns to Vincent, ”This is your cat, right? I don’t know what happened to him, he was having a fit just now, for no reason, but he seems to be fine now.”

When she sees the Chaplain’s body, she is visibly saddened, ”To be turned into undead…he was a good man and never deserved that end. You have my thanks for setting his soul free.”

B7

Candles array themselves before a violet wall hanging embroidered with the shape of a spiralling comet. A wall of bars divides the room, locking away a row of filing cabinets.

'Don't really need this right now.' Seeing Dakash and Vincent make light work of the hands and feet, Seamus puts his Morningstar away and follows his new friends down the hallway.

"Nicely done." Congratulating them as they finish off the centipede he assists in searching the storage areas and taking the carcasses to the guards.

now
'Huh, a chapel, but for what?' Looking around the appropriated offices and chapel, he asks winter. "Excuse me miss, but what is 'Brairstone Asylum' and why are we only staying in these few little rooms and the chapel?"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

”Brairstone Asylum is a hospice stuck on a rock sitting in the Danver River – a convenient place to forget inconvenient people.” Winter answers.

”Why we’re stuck in these few rooms?” Winter gives Seamus a rueful smile, ”We barricaded ourselves in, after patient revolt lead by a man named Ulver Zandalus. His followers hold the northern halls and call themselves Apostles in Orpiment. The doppelgangers started appearing and attacking us as well.”

?: 1d6 ⇒ 1

”Not to mention there’s some really strange goings-on here as well,” She gestures for the party to look through the windows of the chapel. The party sees nothing but yellow mist, and blood rain. They have a feeling they are being watched by something outside. ”The outside world has turned against us. I don’t know if its just Brairstone Isle or if it’s the whole world, but the hospice is surrounded by some repulsive vapour. Worse, the weather beyond is nothing like I’ve ever seen, thunder like laughter, rain like blood, And that’s to say nothing about of the shapes that scamper and flap within, vague forms that know when we sleep. Things are terrible here, but at least here we can see doom coming.”

Retired to Taldor?

'The yellow fog, like in the dream.' He looks from Winter to the others then Seamus scratches his head, "That's the name the chained guy was saying. Has any one asked this 'Zandalus' what he wants? Maybe we could work together against the doppel-gang. Then we can figure out what is going on outside."

He then asks his companions "Have any of you heard of Orpiment?"

He looks from Dakash to Vincent and then Howard. "We were being chased by IT" He looks back to Dakash, tucking his other hand in a pocket. "Do you think IT what could be causing this fog?"

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"It's a little hard to have conversations with crazies who charge the barricade trying to club you down, isn't it?" Winter quips sarcastically.

To Dakash, she answers, "Some of the other survivors say that sick fog outside is from their dreams, and that they keep expecting it to part and reveal a gloomy city vacant of inhabitants or a man dressed in rags. Some have fallen asleep outside the chapel have also woken screaming. I don’t know what it all means, but here in the chapel, Desna tends our dreams.”

Then she examines Dakash from head to toe, "Are you all right now?"

"Well, Loic and Tolman have seen the fog in their dreams before, we'll start with Loic, since Tolman is currently on guard duty." Winter suggests and leads them to a fretful middle aged Varisan man who is being cornered by a busty Varisian nurse.

Upon seeing Winter, the busty Varisian nurse starts complaining, " Winter, you have to help me! Loic doesn't want to take his medication!"

To which, the man replies, oblivious to the nurse's distress, "But the medicine make Laura's voice go away! And she sings so beautifully too!"

The nurse pulls the party aside and whispers sharply to them, "His sister Laura died 3 years ago in an earthquake."

Winter raises an eyebrow expectantly at the party.

So I was sleeping in the gatehouse because it was rather hot with so many people in the chapel. Then I was somewhere else wandering in the yellow fog. And there were footsteps behind me, so I just kept running. And then I heard screaming. I didn’t dare to look behind me. Then out of this fog stepped this THING covered all over with grey tatters.…and it had this really nasty looking knife. I knew something horrible was going to happen to me if he caught me.” The words tumble out of his mouth very fast, as he grows pale recounting his dream. ”I tripped over a jutting cobblestone and tumbled to the ground and I woke up in the gatehouse screaming. As Dakash asks him about his dreams, he nervously swipes his right fingers against his left hand, as if warding off an unpleasant sensation. ”Look,” he whispers in a low voice to the party, ”I don’t want to talk about it. It was absolutely terrifying. I’d really rather forget the whole thing.”

"I was in this deserted place with crumbling grey bricks. And the whole place was full of sickly yellow fog. I heard footsteps and some vile thing trying to get into my head. As I fought it off, I heard a cruel chuckle. Then this spectre in grey tatters stepped out of the fog with its tatters ghosting around it like broken wings of a fallen angel." He shudders at the memory, as if remembering something repulsive. "I turned and ran as if hellhound were pursuing me, then the world began to shake and I woke up, with Captain Vasutin shaking me up, telling me I was disturbing his sleep. And I should go to the chapel to sleep. "

"I felt the fear of the nightmare ease the moment I stepped into the chapel, and we've been sleeping there ever since. Sure, it's squeezy and all that, but ANYTHING is better then having a nightmare." Tolman adds.

If you can find some way for us to escape, some route that doesn’t lead straight into that terrible fog, we would be grateful. If we get out of here, I will arrange for you to be handsomely rewarded. "

"I know where to start looking… but I don’t think you’ll like it. That thing growing at the end of the hall… well, there was a door there once. If you dispose of what’s there now, the asylum’s entry hall is just beyond. Lady be with you.”

Captain Vasutin pulls out a rag covering the wall revealing a wall suffering some sort of otherworldly parasitism. A mass of stringy, yellow fungus stretches across the stone blocks. At its heart bulges and blinks a watery eye the size of a wagon wheel. He hastily steps back after. "Try not to...do it violently. It'll make hell of a ruckus and upset the rest."

A faint sobbing sound can be heard from the eye wall.

Vincent realizes the eye is something from the dreamland that has forced their insane reality on the Material Plane. The eye can be attacked and destroyed, but it will reform again the next day. The only way to ensure its permanent destruction is to show the eye its own reflection.

The party checks out the nearest door in the hallway, and see the yellow fog and a door beyond. They also see tendrils forming in the fog reaching out to grasp them and shut the door hastily.

Please state if you want to explore that area, else I'll just proceed pushing plot(the eye)

While discussing things, Vincent pulls out the strange eye and performs pschometry on it. Haven't finished leveling but one pt going into appraise

Psychometry: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

skill:
Once per day, you can concentrate for 1 minute while in physical contact with an item or location, during which you receive flashes of insight regarding the subject’s nature and ownership. After 1 minute, you attempt a DC 15 Appraise check to decipher the visions. You gain one piece of information about the historical significance or the last previous owner—such as a glimpse of the last owner’s appearance or its emotional state when it last used the item—determined by the GM.

Vincent only:

You see a vision of a gaunt man with a ponytail of long and exceptionally straight white hair in a layered robe made out of patients’ gowns.

A 6-foot-tall standing mirror also leans against the wall.

'Why are we talking to crazy people?' Seamus follows the others as the talk to the people who had the dreams. Hearing the little boy boy ask Dakash if they could help, Seamus nods his head. "I like to help."

Seeing the eye and hearing that it can be destroyed by it's own image. Seamus asks "Can we go back and get the mirror?"

"My brother looks exactly like me. We're twins. I'm Brenton. I'm worried about him... we were separated when everyone ran and I have a bad feeling... The boy in question is an adorable little cherub with curly blonde hair and blue eyes.

Seamus goes back and hauls the mirror and shows the eye its reflection. It gives a final agonizing wail, "Who am I become?!" before it shrivels up and its remains decompose rapidly, giving an awful, nauseating smell of rotting corpses and leaving puddles of yellow slime on the floor.

"Well done."Winter compliments the party. "I hate to add additional complications, but we are also running short of food and have only 7 days supply, so please try to return with answers quickly."

"The south door in the room beyond is the entrance to the asylum."

The party carefully avoids the yellow puddles of slime.

Vincent checks the door for traps and listens for sounds beyond. Hearing none, he opens the door.

White tile, spiderwebbed with cracks, lines the walls of this cathedral-like hall. A prominent, oval desk faces staunch double doors, while hard benches and portraits of somber doctors line the walls. Regal stairs ascend toward a second floor, but rubble has crushed the upper flights, blocking passage. Lofty windows, gridded by bars, reveal yellow mist seething just beyond.

Searching the room reveals nothing of value.

Which way, now? Please state a door/position your mini by the door you choose to open
