Great. So we split the party! Always a good choice!
While the others run off, you set to work on the throne, in a matter of seconds you are able to pry off several of the gems.
As you do you hear a thud from behind you. The door has closed, then you hear, what sounds like the lock being put back on.
You make your way back up the stairs until you are back in the store room with the captives that you left. They look at you blankly.

Ok we are now out of initiative.
A little fast forward. It will take time but eventually you will be able to break down the door.
Prying the gems off the throne will net you a good 300 gold. Searching the rest of the room you find very old pieces of artwork all about, all in good shape, but will need care to transport. And an appraise to value.
Additionally you all level up.

As the heroes take another quick scan of the remaining rooms, they do find one more interesting thing.
A thick glass jar. Inside is a skull which is attached to the jar somehow. The lid is tightly sealed.
It was found in the store room where you found the unidentified magic spear.
Take it or leave it?

It is a mostly uneventful trip back to town. The captrive tried to escape once, but it was jusst an embarrassment to everyone it was so poorly done.
You arrive back in the early evening, just after the sun has fallen. You make your way to the town sherrif and you turn over the prisoner and proof of the other executions. You collect the reward for the bandits, plus a standing reward for the stolen supplies you found early on.
All of this comes to a total of 600 gold.
The sheriff, a gruff older man congratulates you as he, somewhat reluctantly parts with the coin
Well done. Can't say I believe you that the caves are not really haunted. That pipe thing you were talking about sounds like mumbo jumbo to me. But you can keep your secrets I suppose.
He looks at all the art No one has reported that missing, so I guess you could take it to Fritz across town in the morning, he might be intersted in some of it. He deals in that kind of stuff.
Reknar |
Reknar will use Detect Magic on the jar for starters.
Added 300 + 600 gold to our total loot listing.

"Yep" - Reknar chuckles - "I wouldn't believe it either - had I not seen it" - and shrugs it away - "Pleasure doing business with you sheriff"
After they leave the office, he turns to the others - "What now? I wouldn't mind finding accommodation, putting my feet up for the rest of the day, chugging down a few and eat like there is no tomorrow - what say you all?"
Nic "One-Ear" Rockborn |
Nic's ear perks up when the bard mentions chugging a few down. "Bit parch'd meself. Like to git more tobacco and quaff down a few." Those looking closely at the dwarf are positive they see a bit of drool seeping into his reddish beard. His eyes yearning for few belts of whiskey. "Yes sir, lets formalize this partn'rship ov'r a meal and whiskey." It's clear that the dwarf intends to continue on with your group.
Thorin O'Connel |
"Oh now there is an idea, whiskey nougat chocloate bars! That sounds like a wonderful candy, It just needs a name! You know this adventuring seems way more lucrative than forming a candy empire... "
He rattled on following the others already running over the possible candy recipe in his mind.
Reknar |
Retconning:
"The jar has magical emanations - any of you can understand what they are?" - Reknar comments with the others.

"It is settled then" - Reknar nods - "Time to look for a tavern"

"I don't know... Whisky chocolate sounds pretty lucrative to me!" - the half-orc laughs and claps his companion on the shoulder.

"Whiskey Nic's. A candy with a kick." He barrel laughs as hefollows Reknar into the Butt and Thigh Tavern. Once inside he stops, closes his eyes and deeply inhales the stale beer, dirty bar cloth, and the other delightful aromas that all proper establishments welcome it's guests to.
Satisfied, he bellows "4 rounds of whiskey and stout for each of us weary travelers." He points ot table near the corner.
Galen Goodfellow |
Galen looks around as the group enters the tavern, hoping the Butt and Thigh is a less risque place than the name implies. Never one to turn down a stiff drink, the cavalier joins the others at the table, ready to spend some of the new found loot.
"What was that invisible thing we ran into down there? Some kind of trickster, I guess?" he asks.

As the group plops down at the table with the shots of whiskey lined up, Nic fishes out of his backpack the skull. He places it in the middle of the table and lifts his first whiskey. He gives the skull a quick nod, "Poor bastard." He gulps the whiskey down.
Does that answer your question GM?
Thorin O'Connel |
"to Poor Bastards."
He added lifting his whisky shot up and then drinking it down trying to look smooth and cool. After a moment of the fire burning its way down he took stock of the room looking for anyone whom might be a candy buyer...or anything cute enough to maybe be impressed by the story of their heroics versus vile bandits.

Thorin, there are several attractive serving folk, this is after all a large tavern. There is a half elf woman, a human male, and a female gnome, all of which are rather attractive on staff. The patrons are a variety of types.
The gnome server comes over. Here you are gents. The lady at the back corner sends this bottle for finding her companies wares. Enjoy.
She gestures to a woman sitting with a few companions at a table across the pub. The bottle that is set down is an extremely nice bottle of Whisky.

Reknar was distracted by the half-elven woman on staff at the 'Butt and Thigh', but his companion's words shake him off it - "Best be careful with that Nic - we still need to understand exactly what it is"

"Here, here" - Reknar raises his glass in tandem with Thorin.

The half-orc raises his glass in a greeting to the woman - "Please deliver our thanks to the lady, and inform we would like her to join us and share in this fine beverage" - he adds, flipping a silver coin at the gnome server, only then realizing her looks, and staring for just a split second.

The half-orc's comment hits the dwarf like a warhammer over his head. He gulps, "Errrr....right, should've thought b'fore I put Mr. Jolly up on the table." He downs his whiskey in single gulp. He then wraps the skull in soft linen cloth and tucks it back into his sack.
His eyes dart around the room to see if anyone is watching him.

"You know they say when you go gnome just dont take her home... I....well i think that is what they say, at least, though that half elf wench is fine work too. I think I like this place."
He laughed taking a large swig of the ale. For a moment he swayed in his chair then he smiled and shook his head for a second taking a look at the lady in the corner. Having another merchant for a friend could be lucrative.
Galen Goodfellow |
Galen drank a few with the boys, his head swimming slightly as he did so. He had been really frightened in the tunnels, and the libations were helping him relax and forget. The cavalier raises his mug in salute to the lady who sent more drink their way. "Whatta think that thing is?" he asks the others about the skull on the table.
Galen Goodfellow |
"Did any of you hear that?" Galen asks the others, shaking the effects of the alcohol from his head. "I coulda sworn a heard a voice just then." After looking around a bit, his eyes lit on the skull again. "Was that it? The skull is talking to me?"
Nic "One-Ear" Rockborn |
"Lotsa whispers in that tunnel, could jus be yer nerves still." He belts down another shot of whiskey and stands up to stretch his legs. He waves the lady on over to their table. "Whiskey always settles me nerves." He pours the cavalier another shot.
