Audi also has a look around the room.

"And leaving a tome here or there could help shift blame onto someone more deserving of the Hellknight's attentions. Exxor flips through a couple tomes...
What are these books? Are they government ledgers, storybooks - is the content itself any more valuable than the price for a book?

Since we are here awhile would a take 20 on perception be too much to ask? if we can take 20 that would be a perception check of 26. If not../

"I think this tome has been hollowed out. I'll check for traps before opening it." Exxor holds up a large tome, eying it cautiously.
Exxor studies it slowly and carefully, checking for any of the tell-tale signs that it has been trapped.

If its a spirit we come against We throw the book at it and hope its distracted enough for us to either get in a serious strike to drive it of or we run.
He said with a smirk wiping his hands off on his pants from his searching while Miro Stitched Brannock up.
Lets try not to have anyone else chewed on, that traditionally has been my role here in this group My friend.
He added patting Brannock on the shoulder and smirking.

"Tram, my dear firend, if you insist on hurling tomes at spirits, please throw the cheaper ones! This is worth 200 gold, coins I for one could use! And we need to find a more fitting role than chewtoy for you..." Exxor grins back at Tram, then looks to Brannock and adds "...both."
Exxor will also look at the illustrations to see if anything might be used as a map, or indicate upcoming hazards - real and imagined.

the heroes make their way into the next room, taking the magic book but leaving the rest
This boggling chamber is a square shaft, the walls featuring
a spiraling stone stairway that winds up to the left and down
to the right. Yet following the stairs with the eye as they wind
up to the left, impossibly, brings one right back to the initial
landing. There is no floor below or ceiling above, only an
endless shaft dropping away into a dimly lit infinity. A second
flight of stairs leads up to one side of the room into another
hallway, while a third flight descends down in the wall opposite
into yet another hall.

"Really..... who would build something like this... why would someone build something like this... HOW would someone build something like this!!!"
Wait, ...why would someone build something like this..."
Exxor attempts to disbelieve...

I am not that drunk still right guys.
He muttered rubbing his eyes and trying to make heads or tails of the room. He glanced at the strange pool of water and frowned a moment thinking back to his lessons.

"What ... what was that books title Drowned something. It spoke of the knot right? do you think it would ruin the book if we placed it in the water?
he asked scratching his head for a moment. He knew from his studies at the academy that some magic items rquired strange... focus or components to work properly.
