ACT 1 Condemnation
Into the Trial of Combat and Love
Hippa knowing actual combat with monsters were coming up believes in a bit of prevention. She would brewed up some anti-toxin (+5 vs poison) for all her folk. After the Director comes back blanched with fear, Hippa changes her mind and makes them quaff it during a final toast before curtain rise. ”Don’t mind the taste, it has a good kick. I’ve done what I’ve can. Hope you don’t need it.
With that, Hippa as Farus, the riddle-speaking gypsy king shuffles into position. Her colorful couture as she moves props in the background getting in the way of the other actors, just long enough to interrupt their solo’s with head-scratching words of wisdom.
Audi, as Lazarod, takes to the stage. He takes on an appropriately contrite manner, listening to the accusations against him and then responding, "Ladies and gentlemen, I stand accused before you but I tell you that tonight I will prove my innocence of these terrible crimes and with good fortune, we will unmask the true villain instead." He cannot resist gesturing toward Thesing as he emphasizes 'true villain.'
Hippa/Farus: Poking Lazarod with a partially devoured greasy turkey drumstick as large her forearm, follows his gesture, “Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on." She moves to wipe the grease stain from Lazarod only to obviously make it worse. She pursues Lazerod in her efforts making time for Tramtris to speak his lines.
Hear him out, a young fool he may be at times, but let wiser heads prevail.
He called out a bit nervously casting his glances to Audi in his role as Lazarod.
Only a jack napped dullard with fecal matter for brains could think he could do such wrong!
He continued motioning to Audi at the appropriate part and following Audi's lead doing his best to give a piercing glare at Thesing.
Hippa/Farus as currently down on his luck peddler speaks from obscure corner, jingling a few coins in a hat,"Bear in mind that those who are finer and nobler are always alone-and necessarily so-and that because of this they can enjoy the purity of their own atmosphere." Hippa/Farus says nothing else but moves offstage, alone.
"Magistrate Maleficarum, your judgments are always beyond reproach. I am sure your summation of this man's... character... is accurate. However if you desire me to render my own judgment to lend support, you know I have many means available to me to ferret out the truth." With this last statement, Brannock pans the audience with an especially sinister grin.
Hippa is pushing a cabbage cart about onstage, attempting to sell to various background actors with little luck, that is until she passes Brannock. Her eye alight with hope of potential customer when he grabs a few heads of cabbage only to be shocked into dismay with the resulting vegetable carnage. ”My cabbages!!
"The truth! Yes, the truth shall be revealed for no evil shall hide from the eyes of Aroden! No darkness shall obscure the purity of heart and faith. And I assure you of this, that the truth shall be revealed and shall suffer upon the mighty blade of Adroden! Exxor thrusts his dagger upwards with the last sentence for emphasis.
"To see that which is not there, gaze upon what is." From somewhere upon her person/prop, she pulls out an oversized blade clearly not meant for one of her stature but putting The mighty blade of Adroden to shame

Hopefully all of the kinks were worked out in Act 1. I am at least looking forward to the monsters. At least with them I have a positive modifier!

Hippo's antics seem to distract the crowd from the poor volume, diction and focus of th rest of the cast, and the act passes swiftly. Then the first major trail arrives for Audi.
In this act, Larazod is affixed to a torturous implement
referred to in the play as “the device.” This is a combination
rack and wheel, meant to stretch the victim’s limbs and
twist his body into increasingly painful positions. All the
time, Drovalid must be inflicting whip strokes upon the
three to further increase their torment.
At the start of the act, the device is brought on stage
to a chorus of impressed “oohs” and “ahhs” from the
audience. Once it’s been thoroughly and dramatically
displayed, Larazod is stripped down to a loincloth
(making him unable to use equipment in this act as a
result) and strapped into the device.
Drovalid you must act as the torturerer. Everyone can make a perform roll of DC 15, with your text giving bonuses, same as before. the mechanics of the torutre are below
Torment—Whipping Drovalid makes a total of 10 whip attacks
on the various prisoners, once after each spoken line until
the play indicates the torment ends. He must make an
attack roll against the chosen target’s flat-footed AC; he
can attempt to miss on purpose, but each time he misses a
stroke, he costs the party 1d4 points of Popularity unless he
succeeds on a DC 20 Bluff check.
Torment—The Device Each time Drovalid strikes Larazod
with his whip, the device twists and turns, inflicting 1 point
of nonlethal damage on Larazod. A character who takes
nonlethal damage while staggered or unconscious instead
takes lethal damage. Each time a conscious character takes
this point of damage, he can attempt a DC 15 Fortitude save
to negate it.
Brannock Galdarg |
Ah ha! My City-rasied Half-orc trait comes into play giving me proficiency with whips! Woo hoo! No penalty for me.... Sorry, Audi, but this is gonna hurt.
"Come now, Larazod. If you are forthcoming with the truth I can spare you the agony of the lash." Brannock pauses for effect. "No?" Flashing the audience an especially sinister grin, Brannock begins the beatings. "Good. The truth is so much more gratifying when it is torn from the flesh of the guilty!" And with the last sentence, Brannock snaps the whip at Audi's head.
Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
"Are those tears I see streaking down your face?" Drovalid mocks one of the other prisoners. "That looks like sweat to me. Perhaps you need something to garner tears!" Thwack! Brannock snaps the whip at the prisoner.
Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Drovalid turns to the audience delivering his next line with great zeal upon his face. "Larazod, I am glad you have decided to resist. Breaking the spirit of liars and criminals is what makes my task so enjoyable. It is the purpose for my living and breathing." Turning back to the torture device, Drovalid lashes out with the whip yet again at Larazod.
Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
I will wait for everyone else to chime in before doing the next three attacks. Mini- do I need to roll damage?
Brannock Galdarg |
Ok- I figured it was just an attack roll, but I wasn't sure.
Exxor |
"The law shall see you wash away your lies with blood and in the truth, Aroden shall set you free! Behold the penalties you bring upon your self, these punshments are not our choosing, nor our doing, as it is you that force this burden upon our hand. By Aroden, confess!!! As Exxor speaks his lines he wanders in between Brannock/Drovalid and Audi/Larazod, as the bumbling paladin of Aroden, he will attempt to cause the next whip strike to go wild, without it looking planned, and react "surprised" as the lash soars by him.
Perform (Act): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Or perhaps look more surprised as the lash strikes into him....

Hippa/Farus is in pain just from watching. The jaded audience seeks ever more so extreme methods of distraction. Now appreciating the usefulness of a mere supporting role as a buffoon, she puts more effort into her role. ”Coming Dro, I am readying the coals for the next phase…”
Hippa/Farus clearly is having trouble hauling the brazier with red-hot coals and glowing yellowish tongs (painted of course). When at a crucial moment, just before the next whipcrack, she spills the brazier over. In a panic, she quick picks the coals back into the brazier HOT Hot hot hottttt then absentmindedly places the yellow hot tongs in her pack pocket. HOT Hot hot hottttt whilst spinning around to remove it before finally sitting her butt into a bucket of mop water.

Tramtris Arvanxi |
Some my boy, be wise, give them the lie they wish to hear, spare yourself the torment.
He half pled half ordered to the bound audi/lazarod. he had to deftly dodge out of the way of hippa's perfect antics and he smiled and motioned at the fool.

Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Giving Farus a stern look after she drops the coals, Brannock snaps the whip at her head."Be careful you idiot! If another coal hits the floor, it will be you that is trussed up like a hog!"
As Tramtris tries to goad Larazod into talking, Brannock stomps over and slaps him across the face, pulling his punch at the last minute.
Slap Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
"Shut up, you! I haven't begun to question you. Is that what you want? Are you ready for the lash?! I thought not!"
Turning back to Larazod, Brannock flashes him a very half-orc toothy grin. "Ahhh, Larazod my boy, you are obstinate. The Magistrate warned me you might take some time. In fact he promised me the pleasure of a long and drawn out confession!"
Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Unmoved by the piteous whimpers coming from Larazod, Brannock continues to twirl and crack the whip about on the stage, even snapping it out over the heads of the audience, guaranteeing they enjoy a spatter of blood from the prior lashings.
Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
"Well if your flesh is strong, perhaps your heart is not. Should I let one of your co-conspirators taste the lash's truth? Will that loosen your tongue?" At this last, Brannock savagely whips one of the other prisoners, again making sure some blood is splashed on the audience.
Whip Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Do you want me to do the rest of the attacks or wait for the others to add in?
Auði Jaw-Jacker |
Audi puts on a worried mien as he is strapped into the torture device, but then hardens his look as Drovalid prepares to do his worst. "Drovalid! The truth is that I am innocent. Torment me all you wish. It will only prove my honor when they see me withstand your terrible deeds." Audi puts on a brave face, but recoils as Drovalid's first attack strikes him. Biting back tears bravely Audi toughens his look and taunts his torturer, but seeing that Brannock has actually missed, Audi acts quickly and recoils again, biting his lip to bring another tear to his eye.

When Brannock renews his tortures, Audi snarls back "All you'll get is a long and drawn out assault on an innocent man. You can't break me." Again Audi recoils with the whipping and this time let's out a little whimper at the pain before resuming his defiance.
Fort save (Whip Attack 3): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 Failure: 2 points cumulative non-lethal damage

Brannock Galdarg |
Ahh didn't realize it was PCs I was whipping. I thought there were other actors. Ok- I will start with Tramtris and go in order unless I specifically mention Larazod or one of the PCs calls out lines attracting my attention.
"Larazod does your evil know no bounds?! You cry for a long drawn out assault knowing your friends suffer the same?"
Whip Attack on Larazod: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Whip Attack on Tramtris: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
"Hear how your friends scream and whimper? It is your doing! They pay for your crimes, Larazod. How long will you make them pay?"
Whip Attack on Exxor: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
"Come, Larazod, make this easy on yourself and your friends. It is a simple thing to admit one's guilt. Swallow your pride and end this torment."
Auði Jaw-Jacker |
The pain is getting to Audi, but he boldly responds, "Evil? I am not the tormentor my brother. You are the one inflicting this pain on innocents. No wonder your god abandons you!"
Fort Save (Whip Attack 6): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Failure: 4 points cumulative non-lethal damage

Fort save (Whip Attack 5): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 Success: 4 points cumulative non-lethal damage

The play continues, with the audience really getting into it +5 popularity
Then the Trial by Pleasure comes, with the characters Larazod, Dentris, Drovalid, Tybain being forced to undergo the trial.
Torment—Rot Grubs A rot grub inflicts 2 points of Constitution
damage per round as it burrows—a DC 17 Fortitude save
negates the Constitution damage for that round. In order
to remove the grub, a victim must cut the grub out with
a knife—this takes a DC 20 Heal check and inflicts 1d6
points of damage to the victim per round the grub has been
burrowing (1d6 the first round, 2d6 the second, and so on).
The PCs are free to attempt to cut out their grubs at any point
after they make their Perform (act) check to pretend to be in
the throes of ecstasy.
Note that the knife you have for it gives +6 to the heal check. Good performance get will get you a bonus to the perform check
Auði Jaw-Jacker |
Ok, sounds like the order of actions should be: Fort save, Perform check, Heal check (once Perform check is successful)
Audi triumphantly strides to the front of the stage and whispers "Did you see that? Five lashes I endured from Drovalid's limp tool and still he failed to break my will." He laughes conspiratorially before continuing. "And now the trial of pleasure. Do you think he can get it up this time?" He winks and plucks on of the grubs from a jar on the stage. "Perhaps pain from bring pleasure instead. Shall we see." Audi drops the grub onto his arm and moans with delight as the worm wiggles its way into his flesh. With a smile he turns back to the audience. "A delight indeed. Was that truly intended to be torture or a refreshing break in our trial today. I think a drink while we see how Drovalid enjoys his turn is called for." Audi retrieves one of his potions of cure light wounds and swallows it.
Fort save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Fails. 2 points of Con damage. 4 points of non-lethal damage. Anyone have lesser restoration????
