Out of curiosity, are we all still separate, or have we gathered together again? I can't recall who was with which group.
It doesn't matter either way, it's been pretty busy at work since I got back, so my posting ability has been a little low. If we're still apart, my last post still applies, if not, I'll try to get something down soon.

Why would they? Reach of 0 is pretty clear. They don't threaten. They can attack creatures they share a square with on their turn, but I don't think they get AoOs.
Think about standing in a pile of rats? How hard is it to raise a foot higher than they can reach, and hop a few feet away? It's not like they dogpile you any more when you move. That's why swarms auto hit, but don't get to take AoOs.
If I'm wrong then I'll just take the attacks. It's better than standing there out in the open and getting chewed on.

I recall no plan made by the characters to follow Hadrian and Ariso to the estate. However metagamewise it will be more fun to regroup - we should pick up Ellismus en route. Being split up is sad when one group gets all the... mutant rat swarms... :)
Personally I can't see the druids providing much material aid nor much information useful to us yet - regarding the muster. I feel they may be useful later...
* An aside - Ariso/Hadrian - seeing as you guys have known each other for less than a day as characters how do you both as players reconcile battle tactics chat in this thread? I don't mean to be narky, just, perhaps I'm merely a... giant pain in the ass. Littlehewy/Ariso knows me for a...let us say... slightly vociferous and at times volatile champion of "due process" in all its forms. Battle-hardened gamers know and can devise a lot more options strategies and techniques over long time periods via PbP than can two newly met adventurers in the midst of being swarmed...
Now - Hadrian's directions to Ariso re: flasks on belt - in character - all good IMHO. And hey, don't take me for some fun-policeman, I'm just saying is all. All gamestyles are different, and I'm not upset or anything. I won't be posing any recommendations here, but I'll make comments aplenty about how fun this all is!!!
I guess I'm happy for us to handwave our interactions and just say we have apprised each other of our various offensive and defensive capabilities, though perhaps some of us are more reticent in being completely open/ less willing to divulge.
We do have a free action every round to speak you know... ;) [/end rant]

No problem.
I'm treating the situation from the perspective of someone who is a competent and prepared combatant who's just found himself paired with someone who's obviously smart, but who's capabilities are as yet unknown.
Hence all the directions Hadrian is barking.
Ariso can choose to ignore them if he wants. So far the majority of the tactics discussed have been "do you have fire? I have some fire." and "Think they can eat us if we move away from them?" I don't think that's getting too meta.

GM: What's the chances of me being able to throw the oil and have it light up another square this round? It takes a full-round action to make and light a fuse, but if I can ignite it off Hadrian's existing flame that's better. If I can, what squares would be possible, and how would you rule my chances?
Khita: I hear what you're saying. But I don't think it's actually leaked into our characters' decisions much at this stage - so you're point is timely!

@Hadrian/Ariso - No worries! As you were. I'm actually finding the mechanics discussion refreshing and illuminating - Tiny creatures, AoO's etc - its funny how much of he ruleset is difficult to remember and must be constantly re-examined.

Khita Viscenar |

'Sokay Kel - from a quick reread, Hadrian and Ariso didn't leave for the Manor until after lunch - they really aren't that much ahead of us, though we still have to pick up Ellismus and then get past the guards... ;)

The oil may catch fire- given you throw it at something burning or it has a lit fuse, still 50/50. Simple ruling- if you throw the oil at a flame, even a modestly small one, it will burn like alchemist fire 50% of the time as though you prepared the fuse. The other half of the time, it'll burn too slowly to no significant effect.
The attack most be aimed right at the flame, so same target as Hadrian, for the same burst effect.

Sweet, thanks GM :)

On a sidenote, im starting to put together a homebrew that im considering running on these pbp boards. My personal campaign setting, lvl 1 to as high as we can get, with some initial dungeon crawling for nostalgia's sake. If anyone here would be interested, I would much rather run with people I at least have a passing experience with than newcomers, so consider yourself welcome. Just pm me for details, I will be posting actual info later tonight or tomorrow as soon as I find out how to link gameplay, recruitent, and campaign info threads together.

As for the finding a place they can't swarm so easily, that'd require you to squeeze into a small space. There aren't any in sight.
Shadowven: Its pretty easy. Just make a recruitment thread in the recruitment forum, it will automatically make it a campaign, from which you can intuitively link campaign threads, discussion threads, etc.
Feel free to post a link here, I'll give it consideration. I'm involved in 6 campaigns now, 4 of which I'm the GM for, why not make it 7?
