Cardinal Borgia produces a small vellum map that shows the layout of the seven hills of Rome, various landmarks such as the Vatican, the Coliseum, et cetera.... The map also indicates the locations of entrances to the Roman Catacombs throughout the city....

The assassin had this folded up in his pocket....

The friar will look over the map. Perhaps the entrance to the Catacombs of Priscillia will be the easiest to get to?

Cardinal Borgia nods in agreement....

I will use the rest of my funds to perhaps purchase holy writings [scrolls] that will help us on our crusade against the force of darkness. Before we depart Your Eminence would you be able to hear my confession, if not now perhaps in the morning?

Turning to the party he says, If we have no other business I will retire to spend the rest of our time here at St. Peter's in the Vatican library and in prayer at the Tomb of the Apostle. I will be celebrating Mass before we leave to the Catacombs

Of course, my friend.

hmm. Sir Fray, I will attend this mass with you. I find your religion intriguing. There is far more reverence in it than my people own. I should like to attend a ceremony of this god at least once.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You are most welcome to attend Akio Ryuu. You would not be able to receive the Most Precious Body and Blood of Our Lord in Communion but you would still receive blessings. Perhaps one day I will have the honor of bringing you into a life of grace through Baptism.

I will be saying Mass at the Altar of St. Michael in the basilica in order to ask for the assistance of the holy angels of God in this our hour of need at 5 am

He will then wait for the others to leave to make a good Confession.
How available would holy water be? Would we be able to get it for free? [/b]

[ooc] Scrolls I would like to buy: Bless, Cause Fear, CLW (X2) Comprehend Languages, Protection from Evil (x2), Summon Monster I (x2), Sun Metal Total:250

Am I the only healer? FYI I can't channel or turn undead

It seems so Fray, 1 samurai, 1 fighter, 1 monk and a cleric.

"I would also like to join you two at mass tomorrow morning. During the travel we've had the preachings of bishop Alonso Tostado, but I've never been to a church in Rome before. It would be a great remiss if I didn't attend mass here when I have the chance."

Holy water can be had for free from the baptismal fonts all over the Vatican....

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

Each adventurer prepares himself in his own way for the thrilling trial ahead.... An expedition into the ghoul-haunted catacombs that lay like an esoteric maze beneath the streets of Paris, to hunt down and eradicate these heretics and devil worshippers who so brazenly attempted to take the life of the Archbishop of Toledo....

What would this foray yield? What manner of strange and wicked creatures dwelt in this labyrinth, and to what purpose? Would glory be won by sword and flame in the name of The Most High, or would the dark secrets and hidden evils lurking in the catacombs prevail?

M Human cleric (cloistered cleric, evangelist, theologian) of Dominican 2 AC 13, touch 11, flat-footed 12 (+2 armor, +1 Dex) hp 15 (2d8+1) Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +6

I am going to take 10 vials of holy water and recommend that the party take some as well.

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

As dawn creeps slowly into the ancient city of Rome, the band of brave adventurers meets once more, having given or heard confession, and been absolved of their sins lest they should perish in the coming struggle....

They enter the Catacombs via the stygian entrance of the Catacomb of Priscillia, finding inky darkness within....

M Human cleric (cloistered cleric, evangelist, theologian) of Dominican 2 AC 13, touch 11, flat-footed 12 (+2 armor, +1 Dex) hp 15 (2d8+1) Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +6

Do we dare bring forth a light?

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

If not, you must stumble in darkness or purchase pots of darkvision....

Fray Manuel Jose wrote:

A macabre and wondrous world of shadows comes alive in the catacombs by the dancing light of Fray Manuel's torch.... A world of dancing skeletal shadows on artfully arrayed human remains.... A honeycomb-of-eye-sockets-forming-tunnels-and-vaults kind of world....

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

The tunnels are about 10-ft-wide-by-10-ft-high, vaulted chambers vary from 20 to 30-ft-high, and the only source of light is what you bring in to this storied underworld....

M Human cleric (cloistered cleric, evangelist, theologian) of Dominican 2 AC 13, touch 11, flat-footed 12 (+2 armor, +1 Dex) hp 15 (2d8+1) Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +6

Jimeno follows Fray Manuel Jose into the catacombs, a look of slight concern on his face.

"I'm not used to dark places like this. My home country has enough sun, that you're glad when it's dark some days, this isn't one of those times though."

He speaks, with a javelin in one hand and his buckler in the other.

He hopes his new Japanese friend will take the lead on this one, or perhaps the monk, he likes it better to get a first throw in then switch to melee.

The intrepid adventurers set forth, guttering torch in Fray's hand to light their way through the maze of bones and skulls that is the catacombs beneath Rome....

The only sounds at first are the clank of their armor, their breathing, their footfalls, the crackling of torchfire and their heartbeats....

Then, as they are shuffling through a long gallery of upright skeletons in niches, clad in the mail and bearing the rusted arms they wielded in life in skeletal clutches....

The torchlight causes shadows to dance around these gaunt guardians, creating the optical illusion that the skeletons themselves are subtly stirring....

....or is it not an illusion?

A dry creaking sound echoes suddenly all around as dark necromancy breathes morbid semblance of life into these used mortal vessels....
