So looking over some things:
Martin's work on the buildings are good, I want you all to look at the teams as posted under the campaign tabs and think about a few things before we determine team value.
Are you going to push teams to work 7 days a week. (Absalom is relatively enlightened and many places (but not all) offer days off and holy days)
With that in mind are the teams the right size for an almost 24 hour establishment (ie. 2 working days per 24 hours) For instance only one barkeep and currently no managers (I think we have been assuming 5 scofflaws and 1 of them is "boss" but it might be better to pick a manager and pay them a daily wage to keep things running or two if the game room is running most of the time and Same too with potentially hiring someone as an assistant innkeep)
5 prostitutes for rotating clients 24/7? Should they be commoners or should they be "craftspeople" with ranks in profession:prostitution for instance.
I'm not overly worried about the cost at this point. I want to get the operation to reasonably sustainable and fleshed out. {Within reason because obviously we want to have places to go} but on first blush our "people" don't match our facility and I want to make sure that is on an even keel. I also want to point out that you might share teams between facilities. 10 bureaucrats between the pier and inn? That might be all you need for 24/7 operations for both facilities. Same too with the number of laborers, so consider that in your analysis.
Does anyone have any observations on upkeep? Is it basically assumed that the building generate what they need plus profit (teams too) or am I missing what the upkeep cost on this stuff should be? I'm using the PRD ATM so if anyone has any guidance I would appreciate it. I have a copy of Ultimate Campaign as a pdf so I can look in there if folks want to point me in the right direction.
My final question is how often do you want to run events and phases? With RP opportunities within the city it seems like we could narrow the downtime options to weekly rather than daily so that there is more "natural" events happening absent the phases/charts but I want folks to chime in. Certainly with the speed of PBP even a "day" will take more than enough time to hammer out daily DT actions.
As for the GP thread, unless Martin wants to have an expanded conversation with his contact (which we can handle via spoiler) I am ready to move forward unless anyone else has something they feel the need to accomplish.

Maeltheron Timmerond |

I suggest that the prostitutes be Craftswomen with profession prostitute. I do not think that they should be available 24/7. I suggest rotating shifts, but only having any one or two available for services between lunch and 2 am.

Master of Absalom Devon |

Hmm did I lose folks? Or is it just one of those weeks?
If eragar resigning took the wind out of everyone's sails I understand, and if stuff has just come up that is fine too, I just want to make sure I don't do a lot of work and find that the thread is DOA.
So if folks can sound off for me sooner rather than later (maybe you have no opinion on what I posted above) just to let me know that we are still good to go...

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Sorry, I've been recovering from an upper respiratory infection and was rather unmotivated during it. So now I'm in the process of having to do catch up. I am still here and interested in the campaign though.

![]() |

I am here too, Just catching up some some stuff I was slacking with for another campaign. Basically redoing all the maps for a homebrew kingdom building game.
I am wondering if the pier is martin's or if its now a team property. As that would greatly effect our teams. Every person at the pier is accounted for, except the one team stationed at the inn. For moving wagons/carts/unloading the ships. My bureaucrats would be focused on import laws not business laws. so I don't really see the conflict there. I know the ones at the pier will be busy filling out paperwork and such each day about what comes and goes from the dock.
Once I know that.. I can help to balance the teams at the inn, as they do seem off. And I don't know about you guys.. but those prostitutes.. if they are working 24/7 we will need more then just 5 of them. or they could very well die from all the sex.. if they are working every day all day.. that's potentially 25-50 clients in a 24hr period..

Cedany |

Sorry, yes I'm still here, just have some issues at home.
I wasn't viewing the girls as being that busy, while my experience is marginally above non-existent I was assuming that they'd only work between maybe lunchtime and midnight (maybe 1-2am) except by special arrangement.
I probably need to re-read all the Inn stats and the rules for it and get my head around it properly, I think.
If we only have one barkeep we need a second, though I believe Tirkala and I both have that as a professions, so we can fill in for busier periods (when we're available).

Master of Absalom Devon |

Glad to hear everyone is still around, no worries on the life stuff I have a wife in grad school and a toddler whose command of throwing and English now lead me to have a small tyrant I often need to chase around, so I get distraction. I just wanted to make sure everyone was still game.
With the limited hours and group of 5 that seems a good start, like I said places to go. The more limited nature and smaller pool of girls (and that we are now having them be more than commoners) directly implies that this is a location of class with well trained companions. Quality will drive positive word of mouth even if the earning is "less".
I agree that most of the PCs have the profession skills needed but if the taproom is always open (or mostly is save a couple of hours) having another bartender ensures steady income.
I would also recommend an assistant inkeeper and a manager (Pit Boss) for the game room. Normally the penalties for business stability won't affect you because you are always "in town" but I think that if you were out of district having paid staff helps ensure that there is no rapid attrition.
It makes sense to me that although the pier is Martin's in the sense that he paid for it and controls it I see no reason to not bleed the resources together. Obviously if Martin and Cedany chose to go their separate ways appropriate compensation/split of assets would be easy to figure out.
Actually I just noted that the system is built around a 5 day work week assumption. So we will assume you follow suit.
Iwill redraw teams this weekend and work with Martin's initial math on the rooms to give you a healthy sense of your day to day.

I can not, but anyone can trigger one.. and I have the best chance of surviving the explosion if any occurs when I did so, while pretending to disarm it.. none of you would know that I cant disarm a magical trap.
Nobody smart enough to secure something in a trap would set it up to destroy what was inside of it. And I dun think you can use a hero point to do something you cant normally do, or we can assume that Martin would do so.
its martin's job to take the first beating so to speak.. so that's why he did what he did.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

You are correct, we don't know whether Martin can or not. However, Harrison would know that his hands are likely more dexterous than most of yours.
There are plenty of reasons to set up a trap to destroy what is inside. One being that it might be set up as a last ditch effort to destroy incriminating evidence.
Yes you can use Hero points to do things you can not normally due. It even talks about casting a spell normally beyond one's means as an example.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

I understood you were sending the message quietly, I'm just not sure what you meant by the phrase "The enemy has drawn". My mind is drawing a blank on what you might mean.
Drawn a weapon?
Drawn a bow string?
Drawn a picture?
Withdrawn?

Maeltheron Timmerond |

Well, seeing that the enemy is invisible (or at least we cannot see him/her), what could I have possibly heard them drawing. Yep, you are correct - a weapon - "steel being drawn" is how the GM described it to me. LOL.

Sorry Devon, rereading that when I got tonight.. It makes me sound kinda like a dink. Not really sure what to say. That's about the only rule I hate in pathfinder. Didn't even think about it until that 20. Im kinda in a weird place at the moment.. Im thinking of bowing out of all my games. Even though they are a lot of fun. I just dun have the time I did a few moons ago. I don't know.. Ill be away all of tomarrow. I will let you know my intentions on Wednesday.
Once again. sorry for how I worded things earlier.

Maeltheron Timmerond |

@Martin: I hope everything works out for you, and we would hate to lose you.
@GM Devon: Like I said, I have a replacement for the Sorcerer, if Tirkala has indeed bowed out. Also, this person would be amenable to any type of PC in the event Martin needs to also leave. I am willing to do anything to keep this game moving forward with some dependable posting. It is a very interesting game, and we have invested alot. I would like to see it continue.

Master of Absalom Devon |

@Martin I didn't think anything of the move, it pushed the guy out of the corridor and got you downstairs, seems okay to me.
As far as needing to givr up the ghost I entirely understand, do what you need to do. Also keep in mind that this campaign in particular lends well to coming and going so you can certainly take some time and come back if the feeling grips you. I am flexible so no worries there. Do what is best for you.

![]() |

Hello all! I'm led to understand that you may need a substitute, so I'm here introducing myself. Nice to meet you all :-)
@GM Devon - Thanks for agreeing to take a look at a character for me! I just need to know what you're looking for, and I'll get something together. As a baseline, I'll use the details in the first post, and work off that. I'll post back in an hour or two.
Edit to say: If it needs to be a sorceror, I can do that - all things concerned, I'd lean toward a wizard if given the option. Whatever people would prefer.

Maeltheron Timmerond |

Hey, J, glad to see you made it over. I will leave it to GM Devon to fill you in on the character creation. He did consider Advanced Class Playtest options on a case-by-case basis in the event that you had something you were considering from that text.
Please note that GM Devon recently took over for our original GM that abandonned the game. We are in a position of just ramping up under Devon, and our first encounter is currently underway in the Gameplay thread.

Master of Absalom Devon |

I'm flexible, we have stuff from the ACG playtest happening so that is fine or a wizard, make what you want. The whole notion of this game is based more on the mystery of the city, the interaction of the characters and so on. I expect the challenges to be more off beat and I don't think it is necessary to conform to any notion of the "classic" group.
Go ahead and look over the discussion and recruitment thread for all the things we heaped on to character creation and follow suit. I would think for ease's sake you know the party or are a part of the endeavor or certainly a friedly face from in town, we can hash that out in the discussion thread once you have your concept.

![]() |

I have been reading over the threads - not quite done yet - but will get something together this weekend. I'm more concerned about making a well-fitting character than a quickly made character, after all. I have a few ideas brewing, will probably flesh them all out and see what feels the best.

Master of Absalom Devon |

Crunch looks good. If you are interested I was always a fan of "potion belts" from the old 3.5 FR setting. they were 15 gp and held six potions but basically were a bandoleer for potions and you could pull one potion a round as a free action. I mention it because you have so many and if you think that might be a trend...*shrug*

Seishan Flamehair |

I think that would be a great investment, thanks for pointing that out. It might be a trend at low levels, anyway.
I'll have backstory incoming sometime tonight - I've basically got it all plotted out in my head, but it's just a matter of getting it down. Anything you want/need me to weave in there specifically?

Seishan Flamehair |

Background is up in my profile. I tried something a little different and wrote it in first person.
It may need some light editing, but I think the bones are good. I didn't tie to any one character to keep things open (and because I'm not sure I would necessarily knowingly associate with the Bloody Barbers, at least not initially, though I wouldn't necessarily have any serious qualms about doing so in the long run).
She's just a girl who needs somewhere to belong, ultimately.
Sorry it took so long.
