"I would send in some scouts first if I were them, what say some of us change into something inconspicuous and minge into the crowd?"
"Well thought Brenin, but Cayden's blessing is only strong for the first few minutes. We will need to be fairly close when I ask for it."
How high are the rafters in this joint?
Brenin Grazier
Sounds like the consensus is that we're going to have this battle on the inside of the establishment. Seems risky, but easier to manage. We have the catwalk with the view from above in this room, but it has a sheer material between that area and the floor. See page 4 and continued conversation about it on page 5.
Rees
Sounds like a plan. I'll get with Luke tomorrow and finalize the wand thing and my spell list.
Seems like a good plan to me. Much better then yesterdays fight. At least here we know the lay of then land.
Lia's got a good idea in paying some street rats for some warning. I think people might be thinking we are a good bet now.
Brenin Grazier
"Let's get this place secured. Let's lock up all the doors, stairways, offices, private dining areas and sleeping quarters. Let's keep the fight in the main area and not let anyone sneak into somewhere they don't need to be."
Brenin will stay on the floor and out of the catwalks tonight. He'll make the rounds opposite Isegrim, checking in with the cashier and Trystan on his circuits. Perception check is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24.
Trystan Glenfauran
Early in the night Trystan disappears on one of his rounds. He emerges with a sack of house coin, swathed in a loose fitting cloak and a wide brimmed hat from the left behind pile. He takes a seat (8/19) at one of the tables and pretends to drink fast and gamble faster.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Disguise (?) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Character page updated with spell changes

Trystan...missed the eye in the sky message. Most nights that would be a good spot for Brenin, but his sword may be of better use on the floor. Don't know how we would get a message from up there down, short of running...could assign a NPC to do the running?
Let's recap...
Isegrim and Brenin on patrol around the main room, the obvious bouncers.
Trystan getting drunk and gambling... :)
Lia hiding in the catwalks, um, watching from above.
Rees...?visiting tables, helping patrons spend money and patrolling the floor at the same time?
Samaritha, ?behind the bar maybe?
NPC to run messages between Lia and floor.
Sounds pretty sollid, but just in case this goes horribly wrong, Brenin packs up all of his stowed belongings in his "go" bag by his bed for a quick retreat.
DM, I'm having trouble with the stair links on the goblin. The stairs leading down, have a link up to the catwalks. You can't get to any of the lower levels.
DM Luke
I messed with the campaign site a little. Added NPC pages for Kwava and Samaritha here.
The crowd never really picks up as the night stretches on. A few sailors wander from table to table spending lightly. Nothing in the way of any real money tonight. The crowd is essentially dead before midnight, and Saul decides to close the doors. You have the place to yourselves.
Need to know how you intend to pass the night given what you've heard.
Sorry for the quiet time. Concert with Lia and Rees last night and back to school for the kiddies have DM dad dragging arse.
Lia Smythe
Lia loves the streets at night. They don't seem to smell as bad, and certainly look better in the dark. "I would love to take in the sights," Lia replies to Brenin. She was planning on sneaking around anyway, and he's proven a good man in a fight. "Maybe Kwava and his bird would like to join us."
Separating the party is never a good idea, so let's do it! I'm just planning on a look around to see what's what. Perception roll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 I'm assuming stealth makes no sense when you are wondering around as a crowd...
DM Luke
Kwava agrees with the sentiment to extend the eyes to the streets. He pulls back a drawn curtain and looks out at the night.
"There's enough light to see well tonight. I can speak with Ganmede once a day, for a couple of minutes, and she can see quite a bit better than me. Perhaps leave a team to guard the house while others patrol? This place is huge - as you say, someone on the roof would be able to see very well tonight."
He pats his bow meaningfully.
Ok folks. You know a hit is coming. Place yourselves and give me relevant skill rolls. Perception, stealth, climb, acrobatics... whatever your characters attempt...
Brenin Grazier
Perception roll is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 and stealth is 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23.
"Maybe we don't split up completely, but I think Lia and I should stick to the shadows while the other three patrol in plain sight. It might give us an edge."
I offer Kwava my Spider Climb potion. "Might be useful to you up there on the roof."
Lia Smythe
I was wondering as I was wandering, are Brenin and I being stealthy, or just being 'out'? Kwava could roof it, Brenin could wander the streets as bait, and I could follow behind and stab anything in the back that might bother him? I'm planning on keeping to the streets closest to the Goblin. I've given a perception roll, let's go with stealth too, just for funsies. 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32 Can you see me now?
Lia says to Brenin and Kwava, "Let's set up outside and see what we've got. Kwava takes the roof, Brenin, you can wander around like a bumpkin, and I'll stick close by. Let's go see what the night scares up for us." She disappears on the streets behind Brenin, but sticks close.
Isegrim Valko
After sharpening and oiling the Raven's Blade, and spending the day in though of his loss of family and his gain in friends, Isegrim buffs his armour and wanders the floor listening to conversation and making small talk with the people wandering into the Goblin.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Isegrim also replenishes the spent sunrod whilst wandering the markets.
Brenin Grazier
Ummm...this ain't going so well. Quick recap of my vision of this scouting expedition. Feel free to chime in and modify as you each see fit.
The entire group will exit through the front door, Isegrim, Trystan and Rees up front. Lia, Brenin, Kwava and Ganmeade will follow behind and try and slip into the shadows along the edge of the building while the rest of the group heads into the street. Entire group will head West around building. At some point, Kwava will take to the roof and flank us. Brenin and Lia will work the shadows on opposite sides of the street while the trio takes the middle.
Before we exit the building, we'll work up some kind of knock or signal for when we get to the back door to let Saul know it's us, then we'll continue on around to the front in a clockwise motion.
DM Luke
Your plan goes into execution. Saul lights the Goblin up and he and Samaritha stay put in the Goblin's tankard. Hans and Beyar sit in the blinds by the locked front door waiting for your return, weapons in hand. The goblin statue makes a huge goblin-shaped shadow in the square out front as you take to the streets.
At the first corner, Kwava separates from the group.
"I'm just going to have a look around the roof. Ganmede's cry will be an emergency call if necessary." He raises the bird head-high and speaks elven to it.
It cocks its head, eying him for a moment before leaping into the night air. Kwava turns and scrambles up the side of the building. He slips over the roof-line and is out of sight.
The group continues as you described, circling the casino and growing grumpier as the damp evening grows later. Then suddenly your wait is at an end. You are paused outside the light on the northwest corner of the building when a pair of incautious shadows are spotted down the street. Peering in the gloom, you make out at least two dark forms headed your way.
Current Battlemap is updated with a night-time view of your neighborhood, with the party's route in green and the spotted moogs in red. Kwava's current position is noted as well.
Rees
well okay, that was a really big change of plan. What happened Chris change your mind?? Probably was a better plan to stick together and all, I'm just saying. Well DM can I assume since our plans were radically changed we had time to cast things on ourselves like mage armor? Cause thats the first thing I would have done if I was going looking for a fight.
DM Luke
Ok, I know it's not easy to put together a plan in this forum. There's just not enough alcohol in the game...
The two figures advance slowly, allowing Lia and Brenin to take up an ambush position ahead of the rest of the party. There are five green dots on the map, the two leads are Brenin and Lia. The three playing decoy in plain sight (albeit at night) are Trystan, Isegrim and Rees.
As Lia and Brenin wait for the two attackers to advance into the ambush, Lia's observant eye catches motion on the roof. Kwava has bent his bow, and as she watches, he fires down another street at an unseen enemy. There's a cry as the elf's shot finds its mark.
Kwava's the only one in formal combat here. The others may declare free-form actions. I'll assign initial combat positions based on what you do. Everyone can also roll initiative.
Brenin Grazier
Brenin moves South down the side of the building towards Kwava then turns East behind the building back into the shadows looking for his targets. If he doesn't see anything, he'll continue South to the next building and work his way around the Eastern corner of it to get a better view South.
[ooc]Init is 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19.
Lia Smythe
I was thinking of doing the south, then east thing too, but I was planning on going north thinking that I could be at the bad guys backs by the time they made it past the next street. I was thinking of running that way until I got closer, then being all stealthy again. Rolls for you: initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 and some perception again: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 and another stealth for after the whole running thing: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Lia wants badly to get a piece of someone. She runs down the street hoping to get a jump on the bad guys, literally. She smiles at the sound of her feet on the pavement and the smell of adrenaline in the air. She takes a deep breath of rank city air as she heads off into the night.
DM Luke
You do...
Isegrim and Trystan stick close by Rees's side. Neither can see well out here, street lamps, moonlight and all. At the sound of the yelp down the street the attackers pick up their pace. They cross through the light of a street lamp, revealing themselves momentarily to everyone.
Lia sneaks around the building and comes up behind the two men as they pass her position. I'll work on a battlemap. Lia's distance to the closest man is roughly 20'. They are still about 50' from Rees and the boys.
Brenin's operating with the liability of limited human vision as well. His peer down the murky street yields nothing, so he separates from Lia and moves further south. As he pads down the deserted street he sees several shadows pass between him and a faint streetlamp that stands at the head of the square in front of the casino. There's about 80' between Brenin and the shadows.
I'll follow with battlemaps and initiatives.
Brenin Grazier
Brenin sticks tight to the building and moves through the darkness, bow at the ready waiting for one of them to step into the light.
I'll take the shot at the first chance I get without incurring a negative if that's possible.
Brenin realizes how exposed he is out here in the darkness with enemies all around, but he wants to put an end to this and tonight is the night. This smelly town is far from home and the goblin isn't anywhere he plans on staying for long, but he'll be damned if some thugs are going to take it from him.
"Let's see what you've got boys," he whispers.
DM Luke
At the moment that Brenin takes his shot, there's a cloaked shadow standing next to a burly one offering themselves as targets of opportunity. The latter is carrying a hafted, two-handed weapon of some kind.
Roll it up my friend. It is a surprise round, so only the party acts. -2 to attack due to low-visibility. Initiative order is below, with a few folks DM-rolled.
Isegrim downs the potion of bull's strength and braces himself to charge out into the light-pool that the enemies are standing in. +2 str (so attack and damage, for 3 minutes)
Isegrim 21
Brenin 19
Brenin's shadow target 18
Kwava 16
Lia 13
Trystan 7
Lia's targets 6
Rees 5
I should be able to get maps up before Lia's turn. The one we have will suffice for archery.
DM Luke
Brenin's shot plainly finds its mark as the hooded figure screeches in pain.
"Quiet!" the burly man grunts.
"You just move on to the door," the cloaked man gasps as he pulls away from the light that betrayed him to a second unseen archer. As if to emphasize the point, another of Kwava's arrows flies into the group drawing another shout.
Lia's turn. The street map we've been using now links to a battlemap for the ambush fight.
Rees
I go after the same guys as Trystan with my wand o' shocking grasp.
touch attack roll 19+3 if he is wearing metal??? 3d6 is 6,4,1=11
Chris, deduct 50 gold for my new wand. I traded the unseen servant & color spray for a new shocking grasp wand and forgot to tell you about the cash.
Luke are we still assuming I did my mage armor thing when we left? If not I do that instead.
DM Luke
Rees was the last to act in the surprise round, so I'll assume that was just the casting of the spell and the charging of your hands. Since it is a touch attack, you can't deliver it at range as you are right now.
Part of the group moves on to the front doors of the Goblin, led by the cloaked chap. It's Isegrim's turn - first full round. As we haven't heard from Isegrim in awhile, I'll NPC him tomorrow if no post. Brenin can probably go ahead and act. Updated init is posted below...
Cloaked man and mooks 23
Isegrim 21
Brenin 19
Burly man and mooks 18
Kwava 16
Lia 13
Trystan 7
Lia's targets 6
Rees 5
DM Luke
Isegrim charges out into the lamp-lit street bellowing his challenge. move to (37,40).
The rest of the party of southern attackers runs across the open square, taking another shot from Kwava before closing the distance. Brenin's out of targets.
Lia's turn.
DM Luke
Lia stabs the man in the nads from behind. He screams in an appropriate manner and spins to face the new threat.
"They're all over the place!" the man yells.
Trystan's turn.
DM Luke
No problem Isegrim. I seem to recall something about homemade cider...
Trystan, reloading is a move-equivalent action, so you can only move and reload this turn.
Faced with such bad odds, the raiders beat the retreat. The wounded man twists out of the reach of Lia's evil blade and hauls ass down the opposite alley. The second man turns to follow him, then pauses by the mouth of the alley, plainly torn.
Rees...
