In my RoW campaign, we break movement down into spaces we can move. With a 30' move, you can normally move 6 spaces. With snowshoes on, the first space costs 1, the second space counts 2. (Second diagonals / difficult terrain cost double) If you don't have enough movement to get to the next square, you can't move. It just makes the math a little easier, though I still have a tough time getting used to it

Jamir gets off a shot with his own bow. Only the tail end of the creature is visible from his current position, the front of the creature is blocked by a copse of low hanging fir trees. The nimble creature seems to be involved in combat moving around violently. However, Jamir steadies his bow, takes aim, and fires true. The arrow just barely penetrates the tough hide of the creature..but, in it's enraged state it seems less aware of threats surrounding it.

Analia summons another globe of flame. The creature seems totally concentrated on tearing Myth apart. She lobs the flame over Myth in to combat but even in it's enraged state the creature moves out of the way of the fire. Like all animals instinctively afraid of flames.

Wolverine is no longer flat footed..but it is raging now. AC: 18 touch AC:12 Jamir I assessed a -1 penalty for you still be lower elevation only 1/2 to 2/3s out of the bowl. You have line of sight to it's rear end, so no cover penalty, but you did forget to add the -4 penalty for firing in to melee. (You don't have precise shot do you?) In the thick mist, terrifying snarls and growls can be heard as the Dire Wolverine tries to rend the flesh of anyone close enough to get it's claws on. Torvald likewise, is uncomfortable with the proximity of the animal and chooses to back away expecting that he could draw it's attention by moving. Myth will keep his bow drawn and keep an eye out for further danger while his companions work on the Kellid survivor...

Craggark pulls the wounded Kellid from under the body of a foreign mercenary type. The mercenary is wearing padded armor and a cold weather outfit. His weapons are missing, but his coin purse remains. The Kellids look to be wearing furs that, must act as armor. They also had, Heavy wooden shields, and most seem to have been carry battle axes and several javelins each. It seems, the battle was pretty evenly matched with five bodies on each side, including the wounded Kellid, you've just pulled clear.

Jawhar tends to the Kellid's wounds. Jawhar soon realizes the man was very near death and continues to call on Sarenrae's healing touch rebuke death: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 After a few moments of Jawhar's ministrations, the Kellid springs to life coughing a bit of blood out and babbling in a strange language while trying to clamor to his feet and push Jawhar's hands away from him at the same time.

Note: Myth gets a +5 on the linguistics check and may make it untrained.Likewise, Craggark and Analia may also make an untrained check but no bonus.

linguistics DC:11:
You recognize the language as Hallit, the local language of the Kellid tribesmen.

sense motive DC: 10:
The Kellid is acting decidedly unfriendly, possibly not sure if you're friend or foe. He definitely doesn't seem to like outsiders.

Note if/when you search all the bodies, you find that the coin purses were left on the mercenaries. But, their weapons taken. Your party finds several hundred gold pieces.

"I suspect that attempting to use a wand on him would be a bad idea without further introduction.

Perhaps see if he speaks Skald. Otherwise, I'd use the wand on Craggark."

While waiting for the use of magic, Jawhar will pantomime attempting to tell the man that he just healed him.

He will point to one of the other dead people, then to the now awake man. Drawing his fingers down his own face, he will invoke imagery of a bloody face, then hold up his holy symbol, point to the man again, then lift both arms to show him standing up.

Jawhar will then softly pat both hands forward in the universal calm down motion, lift one finger, then point to Lia, waggle his fingers in a spell casting motion, then open and close his hand in front of his mouth in a talking motion, finally pointing back to the man.

"I am familiar with Hallit, but unfortunately I don't speak it. I suppose I will be learning it while on this trip."

She smiles and walks up to the injured man, slaps her forehead with the palm of one hand, then as if remembering something upon seeing the confused look on the mans face(and likely Myth's as well), she shakes her head with a smile and instead extends her in greeting.

Pointing to herself she says, "Lia" and then she goes around and does her best to introduce the other party members by name.

"Yes Craggark. The wand should work the way you want it to."

The Kellid warrior grunts as he rises to his feet. His wounds are closed from Jawhar's magic but, they still look very raw and painful. He looks around at the battle site and then carefully at your group. He seems indifferent to the point of being unfriendly towards Analia's gestures. Instead studying your group and then glancing at the bodies.

The Kellid takes a look at some weapons on the ground and seems to have second thoughts. Instead, he starts to shuffle back a little. Putting some distance between you and him.

The Kellid has shuffled back about 10' from the nearest party member unless physically restrained. Should you try to restrain him, roll for initiative, the Kellid is on edge and doesn't seem happy about waking up among strangers surrounded by his fallen comrades.Oh love the roll-play as usual but will need a diplomacy roll from one or more of you eventually

I don't think so - the caster (i.e., Lia or Jawhar, whoever is using the wand) can only impart the ability to speak a language the caster already knows.

Speak Local Language wrote:

This spell functions as tongues, except the creature touched gains only the ability to speak and understand a regional human language and the language granted must be one you know. You must select the language at the time of casting.

The language can’t be a dead language.

The target speaks the language with a native accent, but the spell doesn’t impart knowledge about any culture associated with the language, nor does it change the target’s appearance.

Jamir is still worried more about being vulnerable to threats from over the ridge than whether this lone Kellid runs off or not, but recognizes that the warrior is likely to be their only source of local information.

Myth shrugs. "Like Lia, I recognize the dialect but don't speak it...I picked up a word or two from my guide while awaiting you though...but only one might be helpful..."

Myth looks at the warrior, slowly extending his hands out, showing them to be empty of weapons. He tries smiling and says the Hallit word for "Friends..."

At the mention of the word friends in Hallit, Lia nods and slowly moves her hands out to her sides, showing now weapons like Myth.

Then she speaks in Skald with the hopes the warrior understands her.

"Do you understand this language?"

If the warrior doesn't reply, she will repeat the question in Common, Erutkai, Elven, Gnome, and lastly Sylvan.

If any language sparks recognition from the warrior she continues, "We mean you no harm. We were traveling and found the battleground as you see it now. We thought everyone dead and we were soon attacked by an animal that had been drawn by the scent of all the blood." she gestures to the dead wolverine, "We were forced to defend ourselves and once we finished it off, we found you alive. We are glad to have been able to save your life."

THe warrior doesn't seem to understand much of what you're saying. Apparently Myth's pronunciation of friends is close enough because, after Analia repeats the word, he seems to visibly relax. He's still a bit wary but, he doesn't seem afraid of you now. He looks around at his dead friends, and says something in Hallit.
זיי זענען העלדיש וואָריערז.

He then bends down and closes the eyes one of his companions. He grimaces in pain, as he stands again. He then, walks over to another of his fallen comrades, and lays the man's shield and ax across his chest.

Craggark has an idea.

”Hey Torvald, you got any booze?”

If he is the Torvald I know:
Craggark takes the skin/cask/keg of plonk, opens it, takes a healthy swig to show it isn’t poison, then hands it to the Kellid.

If not:
Craggark rolls for initiative ”Who is this impostor dwarf?!”

Jawhar will approach the man with his hands out, and say calmly in Kelish (Hey, why not?)

"May I heal you some more?"

Jawhar will point to a spot on his own body matching where the man is wounded and grimace in pain. He will then hold his holy symbol out and waggle his fingers, finally bringing his finger and thumb together over the "wounded" area and smiling in relief.

After finishing the pantomime, Jawhar will point to the man with an inquisitive look on his face?

He will finish by pointing to the man again with an inquisitive look.
