Katerina the Maid |

"Prazil, they do have a joust, but they may frown on Spike's presence. He'd scare the horses, I think. Otherwise, Archery, Hammer Swinging and boasting. Kereek, you can boast with the best big feet I've ever known maybe we can send two kobolds to show your prowess?" Katerina explains what she knows, but her eyes are stormy, What, no melee or dueling? At least I can enjoy the fair...

Marcelline Bryne |

If I recall correctly, the test of strength is a log-chopping competition. It's damage-dealing as fast as you can.
Marcelline's eyebrows and mouth twitch as Katerina mentioned Keerek was excellent at boasting. "I'm not quite so sure that Keerek has the skill at holding a crowd that I do, Katerina. But nonetheless, we should reserve judgments like this until we go. And at least until the messenger that we're all very eager to attend, yes?"

"Very well," Duke Jon nods. "I appreciate your efforts. I'll let the messenger know in the morning and let him return with our answer."
So anyone want to do anything before heading to the tournament. You'll have about a week before you have to leave, though that accounts for travel time you can bypass (and gain another 10 days) if you ride your flying dinosaur.

Prazil |

"Do no worry, Baron Duke Jon. Prazil am not for letting you and Hartsland down!" He turns to Kat then as the group is dismissed, "Kat, maybe you can be for explaining and showing Prazil rules of Pitax-joust so Prazil can be for practicing? Prazil am probably not needing to be for practicing, but underestimating opponents am never good idea."

Prazil |

"If we am not in hurry, maybe we can be taking slower trip to tournament. We can be for visiting places we am already bringing into Hartsland and if we am going through new places maybe we can be for scouting them. Plus, walking am giving more time for us to be practicing and training!"
He looks from Kereek to the other bigfeets, wondering at their thoughts as to how they might best travel.

Marcelline Bryne |

Marcelline shrugs, crinkles her brow. "...Can't Keerek just teleport us there? I'm all for going, and would much rather spend my time there ahead of time, to check out the competition."

Agnar Hrolfsen |

Agnar enjoyed the thought of walking to the tournament, and having a chance to see the land and communities around Hartsland. But he understood Marcy's business responsibilities and Kereek's desire to fly.
He smiled and shrugged his willingness to go along with the group.

Agnar Hrolfsen |

"On second thought, do we not now have the means to keep in touch while using separate paths to the tournament? Prazil and I could walk, using magic to stay in touch, or to return home immediately in case of trouble. The rest of you could join us just outside of Pitax, so that we could make a grand entrance."

Prazil |

Prazil nods in agreement, liking the compromise. "Plus, it am for being weird if we am showing up before messenger."
How far of a trek is it, mott? 10 days by foot/hoof? Sounds like we'll leave with just enough to make it and if anything delays us we'll rely on Kereek's magics to make up the time.

motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |

OK, sorry for the delay, but I kind of had to figure out how far away Pitax is and it's not exactly clear. It looks like it's about 140 miles, mostly through your own kingdom, though eventually you continue west past Fort Drelev.
It's at the southern end of the Glenebon Uplands, which Pitax controls, but if you want to head directly there, you're not likely to run into too much trouble.
[ooc]There's no real set time frame here, but let's say, yes, if you leave in the next couple days, you could hoof it. If you take longer, you'll have to fly/teleport.

Katerina the Maid |

Though she keeps quiet, Katerina is very excited to go visit Pitax. I just hope their test of strength is more than a lumberjack's log hacking... As everyone gets ready to go, Kat puts her meager pack on her horse's saddle. Even now, it's odd to think of owning a horse of my own. She waits for Spike and his new howdah to come out of his oversized stable, and smirks at the kobolds and Marcy riding in such elegance. Well, maybe not elegance, but maybe that's why Katerina smirks.

You begin your travels pleasantly enough, the miles of Hartsland territory passing quickly under the feet of your various mounts. As you move west, however, into less developed territory, you start hearing tales of woe from some of the small communities and woodlands folk you pass.
Stories of disrupted trade from the southern River Kingdoms north to Hartsland and Brevoy start coming with more rapid succession, with the Hooktongue Slough -- south of the eponymous lake on which Fort Drelev sits -- seeming to be the main source of contention.

Kereek! |

If we detoured to the Slough, how far out of our way would it take us? I mean, would we able to make it to the Tourney on time still or would we need magic?
Kereek chews over this idea. "Trade am important, Jon-Jon am always saying. If we am for keeping trade going, we am needing to investigate this SLough place. Kereek am for going there, and maybe we am using magic to travel very far if we am delayed."

Katerina the Maid |

"Aye sounds like a good idea to clear out these bandits. It's kind of our duty being agents of the Duke. If nothing else, it will show Pitax that we take the safety of all very seriously."

You being investigating, discovering that the main culprit appears to be a group of frog-like creatures, several settlements of which exist throughout the swamps. It takes you some time, but you eventually learn that the largest settlement of the creatures, south of the lake, is called M'botuu, which loosely translates as, “Those Who Swim in Blood.”
It takes four days, but you're able to discover the general location of the village if you want to go there. You could also put it off until after the tournament if you don't want to take the time.

Kereek! |

"'Them Who Am Swimming in Blood?' Kereek am thinking they am not nice if they am having enough blood to swim in. Kereek am thinking that we am going in with a show of power, so they am not thinking we am push-over who am easy to kill. We am for taking Spike and flying in and we am having swords out and waving."

Marcelline Bryne |

Marcelline squints. "Doesn't Thronehold have like... armies or something who are supposed to protect its trade interests? I don't get it. Weren't we going to a party? And now we're gonna traipse around a blood-filled swamp looking for frog people because they're upturning our trade caravans?"
She sighs. "I mean, I guess."

Flying over the swamp makes it difficult to find the village, but eventually you locate when you think is a promising spot as you see a wisp of smoke rising from a fire pit’s smoldering coals.
Spike lands in the center of a handful of small, crude huts that seem to be built from freshly cut timber and thatching, but which are falling toward ruin.
Next to the fire pit, the smoke lazily drifts toward a massive stone statue chiseled to resemble an immense, menacing toad. Five old ropes hang from the statue’s open maw.
Your arrival sets off a commotion, as more than a half-dozen frog-like creatures leap from trees where they were presumably standing guard and begin croaking loudly! DC 13 Will save or become shaken for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds

Kereek's sensitive ears don't take kindly to the croaking! He slides off the flying dino and calls out loudly in Common. "Hello! We am from Hartsland and we am for talking to your leaders! Take Kereek to your leader!"

Marcelline Bryne |

You don't have to roll, Prazil, his ability allows his allies to use his result. It allows everyone to save or fail against an ability as one.
Marcelline grumbles, drawing her blade. She doesn't charge in to attack just yet, because Agnar and Keerek bothered to try to talk, but she does give them a bit of advice, and she tenses her body in readiness for enemies closing on her.
"Guys, monsters don't usually speak fluent Common. Any of you speak Boggard?" she says. "'cause I don't."

Kereek! |

Kereek sighs. "We am for peace, but they am for war. And they am only monsters, Marcy, if they am acting like monsters. Kereek and Prazil, am we monsters too?" He shakes his head. He steps five feet to the SE and casts burning hands (while touching his rod of lesser intensified) on the bellicose boggards!

Prazil leaps from Spike's saddle, drawing a gleaming greatsword as he moves, and lands in front of one of the frogthings that tried to strike at Spike. "Prazil am for stopping you! Prazil am for defeating all of you!" Bellowing, the kobold brings the broad blade arcing down toward the nearest frog's shoulder.

Marcelline sighs, and begins to circle, ending up next to Prazil as he washes the creatures with magical fire. If they live (and that's not guaranteed) she fires a quartet of magical missiles at a likely target, drawing power from her ring to allow her to cast it.
Cast magic missile on some nearby living targets after Keerek fries them, and move down-right of Keerek.
