Well it seems the Paizo site has settle down a bit and the messageboards are back so we can get things rolling again!
Hopefully everyone has their copy of PFRPG or the PDF by now and if not the official PRD is up and running with everything we need to switch over to the PFRPG. Now this is going to take a little time I understand, lots of reading to do and such so I am giving us a couple of weeks to make changes and discuss any issues you might have with the new system. Don't hesitate to post your questions or issues here and I will get to them as quick as I can. If you don't feel for some reason posting here then just shoot me an email!
Now I know we started things with the old system and many changes have been made for good or the bad and you all had certain visions on how you wanted your pc's to grow as the game continues which conflict with the new rules. We are all here to have fun so I have no problem house ruling certain issues that come up and I diffinately don't want those issues to become deal breakers for you not wanting to play your pc anymore! So please let me know of any things you have problems with and we can deal with them together to resolve them.
Ok, Sept. 1 is the goal I have set for myself and this game to be fully converted and moving along smoothly. I plan on my days off coming up to spend the whole time working on the new rules and how they effect the AP, make changes where needed and deal with anything you come up with if any! The game will continue on as normal!
Let me know where your at with things soon!
Cheers,
Rob

I think I'm done. I dropped the scimitar since humans lost the free martial weapon prof. Dropped magical aptitude and took point blank shot. couldn't remember how many rays i've used so i marked it at 5.
Other than that, not much changed.

And for what it's worth, I'll try to put more into my posts from now on. I think the current combat is just starting to wear on me; that unluck ability is one of the biggest headaches I've encountered in a game.
Thanks! And yes I am getting tired of that also, playing pbp seems to drag it along farther than it normally would we have found out. A good learning experience though I guess. Hopefully combat will end by the next round! If everyone finishes converting then we will start with the new rules as soon as this combat is over, just a couple more folks to hear from!

Yay, we're back!
Sorry for my absence, but I decide to capitalize on the recent downtime to focus on my most recent wiki project; I was just made Admin and Bureaucrat of the Champions Online Wiki, and got so absorbed that I forgot to check back every day. Looking forward to seeing what else we can burn down. ;P
Oh, and a little test:
Awesomeness Skill Check

Darn...

Zoom, do you have any house rules regarding basic knowledge checks? They're supposed to be instant, allowing me to act normally in addition to the check, but both times I've made them to try to decide my character's action you've resolved the round of combat before giving the results.
Heaven's Agent
Just a heads up that the dice command acts funky from time to time. While composing my most recent post, the forum monster ate what I was writing and sent me to the Paizo main page. I had already previewed my OOC text, and the attack roll result had been a 9 with the damage at 4. When I re-wrote my post and submitted it the rolls reflected the different, though admittedly better, results that are present.
I did some experimenting with the mechanic after and found a couple other inconsistencies with the command. Previewing a dice command normally returns a single result, regardless of how many times it's previewed. However, if a second browser window is then opened, and the same text is previewed in the second window, the result is different. In addition, if the preview of the original browser window's text is refreshed, it too will show the second result. Done enough times, this can produce tailored results that essentially eliminate poor rolls.
I don't know if it's something we should worry about, but it is something to consider. Especially with alternative dice rollers available.

It really wasn't a real combat round per se, as no one rolled attack rolls. I went ahead and used Efreat's attack because he missed and didn't roll an init at the time but wanted to include his post to the game. Also someone was going to get slimed no matter what the group did anyhow. I also wanted to keep things going a little since my posting times have been slim of late.

I sent everyone an email with a map attachment of Kelmarane! Let me know if there are any issues! I just went over XP and you all are at 3000, so you are now at 2nd level! Please upgrade you pc sheet when you can!

Zoo, I have to appologise as I promised you I would be staying with you for the long haul. However, some real life issues have come up which means my online gaming has to come to a halt. I regretfully have to pull out of your game (and indeed all my pbp's).
Hazreem is yours to do with as you please.
Cheers

As stated on the game thread, I'm willing to continue this Legacy of Fire campaign in the absence of the DM. It seems a little strange taking over without his approval, but it appears as if Zoo hasn't posted anything since February 9th on any of the message boards without any indication that he was going to be absent for a couple of months. I hope nothing bad has happened.
So far the Paladin, Sorcerer, and Ranger are in. The Druid is out. Nothing from our Cleric or Rogue yet. We should try to find someone who is willing to fill in and take over the Druid's character. Unless someone knows someone who would be interested, we probably can post in the Gamer Connection message board.
It looks like everyone has updated their characters to level 2 except for Mah'ysa. Thanks Hazreem for pointing out the character info available in the profiles. So once we get a replacement for the Druid and hear from the Pae and Mah'ysa, we're ready to go.
A little background on me. I live in Wisconsin (US) and I'm married with small children. Prior to having kids I could go to gaming conventions, have all day game sessions for multiple campaigns, and able to do other things with my life like golfing and playing on a soccer league. Now my life consists of work and taking care of the kids. My wife is also a gamer which actually makes it harder since she wants to go gaming too. I haven't been to a convention in years and it is extremely difficult to spend a whole day gaming as my kids are way too young to game yet themselves and can't keep themselves occupied for that long. The only time I have available seems to be a couple hours after they go to bed.
I've been looking for alternatives to traditional RPG and Play by Post looks promising, but this campaign took 10 months to reach level 2 and then died off. This is the only one I've read, so this may not be normal of Play by Post. I'm starting up a Legacy of Fire campaign using iTableTop, basically a video conference with a shared map. Then the gaming group could meet for short durations without traveling, just a couple of hours at a time, but then meet more frequently, such as weekly or bi-weekly. We're still at the character creation stage. I'd suggest my wife to take over the druid character but she has already created a druid for this Legacy of Fire campaign.
I work as a software developer, so I'm generally in front of my laptop all day. I can generally respond to emails/posts fairly quickly for general stuff, but would wait until the evening after the kids are in bed to do anything detailed, such as advancing the game. Except possibly for Mondays where I usually don't get home until late. So as long as you guys have your actions in, I should be able to maintain a 24-hour turnaround. In June I'll be gone for two weeks without Internet access, so we'd definitely have a slight pause then.

Thanks for offering to take over Dan, it's much appreciated. I, myself, live in New Mexico and am currently a stay at home dad (sons in middle school). Picked up a census job while it lasts and was formerly middle management. I run a couple of RL campaigns that alternate bi-weekly between Saturdays (my official gaming night I am allowed by the better half). Going to be starting A Kingmaker campaign to replace the Second Darkness campaign we just wrapped up yesterday (well, probably, actually wrap it up two weeks from now because there are a few loose ends that could use tidying up). I believe Mah'ysa dropped out of the game quite awhile ago without a word so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response from her. Pae, however, was active til the end so there is hope there. Last convention I made it to was 4 years ago Gencon (saw Gary Gygax from a distance with some booth babes hanging off his arms). Before that it had been a decade since my last con. Hoping to go to next years Gencon, it's a good time.
Sardaukar
I used to work downtown Milwaukee before GenCon moved to Indy. It was nice being able to park across the street from the Convention Center since I had a monthly parking pass for work. Ever since then I've meant to go down to Indy, but it just hasn't worked out. And this year doesn't look promising either. Maybe one of these years...
I'll hold out for a weekday as some people might not check on weekends, especially in spring. I also put a few feelers out. If nothing by tomorrow night, I'll make a general post for replacement players.

Great response. We have four people currently indicating interest:
-- Kratzee: Interest in Druid with modification
-- Eric Swanson: Interest in either Cleric or Rogue
-- DM Wellard: Interest in Rogue
-- Camris: Any
Eric, you indicated you were willing to yield to others if there were sufficient people. It looks like we have sufficient people. Unless another here wishes to yield in order for you to play, I believe we have our group.
So we have the following:
-- Kratzee: Druid (Hazreem Al'Shakar) Character sheet here.
-- DM Wellard: Rogue (Paellat 'Pae' Silvertongue) Character sheet here.
-- Camris: Cleric (Mah'ysa) Character sheet here.
Please copy the character info to your own profile or create an alias for it. Camris, it does not appear as if the Cleric leveled to Level 2, so you'll need to up it. Kratzee, go ahead and make the changes for having an animal companion (asp). If you adjust the ability scores for this, follow the point system in the Core Rulebook to get points back for decreasing an ability and then reassigning those points in another stat.
For those just joining, here's the rest of the group:
-- Bahir al-Asim Abdul Shihab: Human Paladin of Sarenrae
-- Efreat 'al Inferis: Human Sorcerer
-- Daumari: Half-Elf Ranger
Here's a quick summary of what has happened so far. The Short Short version. If you wish more detail, you can read the game thread.
You were recruited by a man named Garavel who is the major-domo of the Merchant Princess Almah to retake the city of Kelmarane which fell into ruin several decades ago and has since been overrun by gnolls. After a six day camel ride from Solku, you arrived at the Sultan's Claw (a giant tree whose branches look like a claw) where you met the rest of the group which included Almah, four pactmaster guards, 6 merchanaries, a cleric, a camel driver and his wife who also tend to the animals and cooking, and a guy hired as a gnoll expert who has bad hygiene and walks with the help of a cane. You arrive as a fire breaks out. After helping to put out the fire, you are asked by Almah to conduct an investigation. You complete the investigation determining the cause to be a Pugwampi, a small critter that brings bad luck to those around it.
Feeling unsafe out in the open, Almah indicates there is an old Monastery to Sarenrae about a mile north, just south of Kelmarane. She would like to use it as your base of operations for retaking Kelmarane. She asks your group to go ahead and make sure it is safe to occupy. They will follow the next day. So you arrive and clear out the Monastery, fighting many more of these Pugwampis and a few baboons. Having claimed the Monastery, you began your scouting of Kelmarane. On the third day, you witnessed the gnolls sacrifice a human by ripping his guts out with red-hot iron tongs. That night, you witness them escorted another bound human out into the pesh (cactus) fields southwest of Kelmarane. They force the man to his knees and then start pounding the ground with a large staff. Taking this as your opportunity to make your first assault and possibly save a man from a horrific death who might have information, you made haste out into the pesh fields. This is where the game left off.
The game thread can be found here. I will be posting there shortly. Let the games begin... er.. continue...

A few administrative topics.
Looking at XP, Zoo mentioned you had 3000 XP which was enough for 2nd level. On page 30 of the Core Rulebook, 3000 XP is for the Slow progression. Zoo indicated you are on the fast progression, as you should be for this adventure. By my calculations, you only have 1395 XP, including the couple of encounters that were skipped. The fast progression indicates 1300 for Level 2. So either way you are at level 2. So you need to reach 3300 XP (Fast Progression) to reach Level 3.
I went back through the game thread to determine what treasure items were found and what was done with them. Here's what I have determined:
Monastery Chapel:
-- Phylactery of Faithfulness: Not picked up
-- Ring of Feather Fall: Not picked up
-- Book: The Birth of Light and Truth: Bahir picked up and reading.
Monastery Library:
-- Book: Courts of Stone and Flame: Efreat picked up and reading.
Monastery Undercrypt:
-- Sheaf of paperwork containing several alchemical formulae: Not picked up
-- +1 Mace: Not picked up
-- Yellowing masterwork leather armor: Not picked up
-- +1 Dagger: Not picked up
-- Brooch of Shielding: Not picked up
-- Holy symbol of Sarenrae attached to silver chain: Bahir gave to Mah'ysa.
Monastery Courtyard:
-- Scimitar: Bahir using.
If anyone is doing anything with these items, please indicate so in game.
Daumari
Wow, didn't realize there was so much left unclaimed. If no one else wants them, Daumari could use the ring of feather fall and either of the magic weapons; he prefers his hammers, and will continue to seek out magical versions, but one never knows when you'll face an opponent that proves resistant to mundane items.
EDIT Was the teak box that held the brooch and holy symbol claimed? If not, Daumari wouldn't leave it behind.
Bahir al-Asim Abdul Shihab

-- Phylactery of Faithfulness: Not picked up
I suppose Bahir could use this if Mah'ysa isn't going to.
-- Scimitar: Bahir using.
There seems to be a deep connection to Sarenrae with this sword, I would appreciate a better description and anything else you can tell me about it. Sarenrae guided him to find it.

Quote:How would switching some of the stats around, changing Nature's bond for something like Snake (asp), and switching that "Reclaiming your roots" feat out work for you?The reclaiming your roots feat is a campaign trait and cannot be switched. In Legacy of Fire, players had to select one of six campaign traits.
Please move this discussion to the game's Discussion message board as others have also chimed in there.
Not even for another Legacy of Fire trait? A masterwork scimitar seems like a waste of a trait.

The teak box held the holy symbol with silver chain. The box itself was not important. But if you want it, it's all yours!

At this point, you simply know that it is a perfect fit for you. It's exactly what you've been looking for. You have a slight compulsion to use this weapon in battle. It almost seems like there is a presence with you that led you to the sword and wants you to use it. Additional details will be revealed over time.
Not even for another Legacy of Fire trait? A masterwork scimitar seems like a waste of a trait.
The reclaiming your roots trait is what provided your character the motivation to join this mission. There were six campaign traits for Legacy of Fire. Each player was supposed to pick a different campaign trait with the exception of "Finding Haleen" which two people could select as long as their characters were related. Two people took Finding Haleen. The only campaign trait not taken is "Earning Your Freedom" where you start the game off as a slave. Unless you wish to switch to being a slave currently owned by the government, placed in Almah's custody, and you haven't told any of the other players about it yet, that would be a possibility.
The description of Reclaiming your Roots is as follows: Your interest in the village of Kelmarane is more personal than most of the others who are heading out to aid in the reclamation. You aren't seeking revenge against gnolls, glory, money, or anything else. To you, this is purely a matter of honor, as Kelmarane is where you were born. Your were forced to flee the village when you were only a few years old, and you didn't discover this until a few years ago. Perhaps you found an old document that revealed the truth, or maybe you learned the news from a relative. Both of your parents are now dead, and from what you've been able to piece together, one of your parents actually died in the village when whatever happened there happened. Your surviving parent spirited you away to safety to grow up elsewhere, but never spoke of Kelmarane and always told you that your other parent died when you were a child in a horrific tragedy like a fire or a flood that swept away the body. Now that you've started to uncover the truth, you are convinced that your heritage remains hidden in Kelmarane. Whether you just with to find out what really happened to your parent that died there or you want to rebuild the village in his or her honor is up to you. But Garavel's caravan to the village is just the opportunity you've been waiting for. When you other parent died recently, among his or her effects was a single item that once belonged to the parent who died at Kelmarane. This item is your most valued possession, a piece of jewelry worth 350gp, any masterwork weapon or armor worth no more than 350gp, or a wand containing any 1st-level spell (CL 1st) with only 20 charges remaining. If you ever lose this item, your resulting depression imposes a -1 penalty on Will saves for 1 year.
This trait gave you a masterwork scimitar free since you wouldn't have sufficient gold at the beginning of the game to purchase one.
Everyone: Don't forget to add your actions on the game thread.
Kratzee
Earning your Freedom sounds better. I would rather have a boost to a saving throw than a weapon that I would be depressed about if I trade it in for a better sword. And I think it would be more fun to roleplay as well.
Also, I decided to not take the animal companion but instead switch domains to Weather. I will have a full character posted shortly.
Also, if us newbies get our picks, I'll grab that Dagger +1.

Since your character prefers hammers, you'd probably prefer the +1 mace.

Then you'll have the +1 Dagger.
I'll get to work on the revised background if this meets your approval.
Looks fine. Better than trying to work a sudden animal companion into the middle of the story. Try to keep in mind what this character has already done when determining your background story.

Just glanced at it (don't have time to read it right now). Don't forget to up to level 2.
