Legends of Andoran (Dragon Mountain-Pathfinder) (Inactive)

Game Master Dread

This is an 'adventure path' created by combining the adventures Sunless Citadel, Forge of Fury, Speaker in Dreams, Wererats of Relfrin (now called Wererats of Sauerton), The Standing Stone and Dragon Mountain. Care to take the journey?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well, I think the preference is either for fighter or paladin equally, with cavalier a distant third.

I see him fitting into the 'secondary combatant' slot either way.

And I know this makes things less easy for you, but depending on how the story would go and character progress, he could end up as any martial class really. He's supposed to be an eager and willing kid, he idolizes the great warriors of Andoran, so any path that would get him there would make sense I think.

There are tricks to speeding up PBP combat, but even with those it is rather slow. Things like DM rolling initiative for everyone, running initiative in blocks, and posting some of the monsters stats (AC, FF, T) on the campaign info tab so that players can resolve their own attacks all help to speed things along considerably.

I have a few other things that will help as well. I do like the ac stuff in the info tab.

Im thinking it will help to post saves there as well. and have the person using a spell roll the save for the opponent..ie characters roll monsters and dm rolls characters. Im going to use my character info line to put info on buffs/debuffs and current hp's in. like I do for m characters saves and hp's in games.

I am fine with a slower pace. Hell, I have even had combats in my tabletop roleplaying groups that feel like they take weeks. lol I am able to post pretty much all day as my work does not require alot of my attention and currently I am working out of town so I am holed up in a hotel at night. Since the town I am in is populaion 55 and there is nothing to do here I am able to post anytime during the evenings as well.

55? oh my..lol sounds like Oakhurst lololol where are you at?

I exaggerating, it a bit more than that. lol But I am in Jellico, TN currently. The regular guy had to take some time off due to his wife falling ill and I was the only one certified to weigh trucks in TN so I got the pleasure. lol Have already been down here for a month and it looks like it will be at least that much longer til I get to go home. /sigh

Yeah, if you want to really make it run with no hiccups you can have players roll the monster's AOOs on them when they provoke, and roll the player's AOOs for them when the monsters provoke. But that requires players who are paying attention, know the rules and are willing to do the little extra work for game speed.

I was against it at first, but I kind of like how smoothly games run where you roll init for everyone, and then whichever player gets the highest is compared against the monster (or monsters). Then it's whoever posts first goes first. For example of there was monster(s) A, monster(s) B and players. The monster A gets a 15, the highest player gets a 22, and the monster B gets a 12. It would go players (in posting order), monster A, monster B each round. Works well, and doesn't penalize people for focusing on initiative in their build.

I think I may try a version of that, but will think on it in the next couple days and finalize that come game time

This is the first time I have created an alias or posted on the forums for that matter. This will be the character I am interested in playing. If I left something out or did anything wrong please let me know. I posted my characters concept and backstory under scarrlupio.

GM, check out the combat in my two games if you want an idea of how it COULD run. I dont claim to be awesome at it, but I think I've worked into a pretty solid system.

No worries I think what I see is lacking is an in character post...responding to this...

On the early morning of the 12th of Gozran a small earthquake rocked the community of Oakhurst and the neighboring farms sent word that strange noises were coming from the gorge to the west that held a long sunken Dwarven Citadel. The Hero's of Oakhurst- The Son and Daughter of the towns Mayor; Kerowyn Hucrele, owner of the General Store and wealthy merchant in her own right. Targen Hucrele, A Fighter brave and intelligent and Sharwyn Hucrele an Enchantress taken by the party Leader Sir Bradford of Almas, a Paladin of Iomedae. Finally the party was rounded out by Karakas, a Half-Orc Ranger...and sometime caravan guide for the Hucrele Mercantile interests.

These hero's set out to investigate the gorge and the Citadel therein....and now 3 days later, no word...no sign...and the town begins to fret. Mayor Hucrele has put the call out for those who would take up arms and go in search of the Hero's of Oakhurst....

Who will answer the call.

When the earthquake hit three days ago Lyrralt relished the excitement of something new. However, he did his part to help rebuild any damages to the homes or structures in Oakhurst. In this small community one has to find any excitement they can to keep life interesting. When word was out that strange noises were coming from the gorge, he was ready to go with the local heroes to investigate, however, his father would not let him.

After three days and still no contact or word from the small band of adventurers the Mayor put out the call for help. Refusing to be denied his adventure this time, Lyrralt set out to find his father and tell him of his plans to help locate the missing heroes. Eventually, Lyrralt found his father, not surprisingly, at the local tavern deep in his cup. Not wanting to confront his father and the demons the drink brings out in him he left a not at their house promising to return shortly. Grabbing his fathers rapier from over the fireplace he headed out to speak with the mayor....

GM. I didn't see anywhere that npc classes got a particular amount of starting cash so I used the cleric's starting amount. Is that correct or is it less than 140gp?

Even if not chosen, I still enjoy character creation. <(•_•)>

finally got stuff included in the profile.

the character stats well need to be redone but the other pertinent info is in the alias profile.

"Thank you Ms. Finch". "My head feels much better". "If you don't mind I think I'll take a walk". "Can I pick you up anything while I'm out". Cody gabbed his hat to help cover up the bandage on his head, and headed out of the house. There was a slight chill in the air, and he shivered a bit without his long coat. Walking down the dirt road, he turned at the alley, and walked to the end where his horse was stabled.

"Hi boy". "I know you need some exercise". "Maybe within a day or two, I'll be able to take you for a run". Cody continued walking down the main street, smiling and nodding at stranger and acquaintance alike. As he continued his walk, he could see a crowd gathering in front of the common building, and the city elders addressing a group of gathered citizens.

As several hands went up in the crowd, Cody turned to an older man standing next to him. "So what's this all about"? After hearing the explanation, Cody knew it was time to repay the kindness that the town had offered freely to him. "Pick me". "I would repay your generosity during my recovery with the service of my armor and weapons". He almost jumped up and down with excitement hoping to hear his name called, and casually looking around to check for potential allies or competitors.

Please restart the application of my Lantern Bearer and Noble Scion for the Secondary Combatant role. The Lantern Bearer will be more Combatant as an archer, and the Noble Scion will be more Secondary focusing on the face skills and connection with the setting. I don't which would fit better in your campaign.

I don't know how to provide you a writing sample for these characters, because as I wrote before they are too undeveloped. Please let me know what you would like me to do.

Even underdeveloped you can respond to this...(everyone else has...if you need inspiration read some of the other posts)

Maybe I can break it down a little.

1. What is your character doing the present day when news about the prior adventuring group is the talk of the town.
2. Work yourself into the GM's story of how you become recruited by the town Mayor to be part of the investigating group to find out their fate.

Lantern Bearer:
I should have gone with the initial search party. My father would have. Maybe he did already. No, that would be too close. These thoughts repeatedly ran through his head while he went through the motions maintaining his father’s herbalist shop. In the streets and in his shop, he listened to and discussed with his fellow townsfolk that they were as concerned as he was; however, they disagreed that he should have gone. They smiled and humored his ego, but it was clear after a dozen interactions that he was not seen as very heroic. Perhaps, elves could not be seen as heroic in this human-dominated area. Maybe it was his lean probably fragile physique? Maybe it was his introverted nature? At least, no one had a weaker opinion of him than himself.

When the mayor put out the second call three days later, his anxiety was unbearable, so he grabbed his longbow and gear and heeded the call. Most of his neighbors would not make eye contact remembering some of their conversations, while the rest smiled and nodded silently thanking him.

Noble Scion:
The earthquake had thrown him out of his feather bed spoiling his morning slumber. After bathing, grooming, and breakfast, he took his favorite horse from his family’s estate into town to witness the departure of Heroes of Oakhurst as they had been named. What an adventure that they have begun? Perhaps he should have be an author of adventure stories instead of a barrister or lord? The family would not be happy. He thought to himself, but he had finished his training as a barrister. This summer was his vacation, his reward. They couldn’t tell him how to spend it, could they?

So he began to interview the friends and family of the Heroes to research their backgrounds. He also began asking questions of any townsfolk who knew anything about the local Dwarven Citadel. When the mayor made his second call after three days, his interviews had stopped producing any new information anyway. He returned to the estate and had the servants pack for his journey, his adventure.

This adventure sounds unique and interesting - particularly the idea of starting with an NPC class. Here's my submission:

Theodar Urgaad: Dwarven Aristocrat (Soon-to-be Inquisitor)

Character Concept:

Theodar Urgaad - NG Dwarven Aristocrat / Inquisitor (of either Cayden Cailean or Milani).
-Secondary caster (or secondary combatant, if a 3/4 BAB can so qualify).

Backstory:

Theodar Urgaad was the third son of Lord Wergrim Urgaad, a minor lord amongst the dwarves of the Five Kings Mountains. These dwarves often spoke of duty, honor, and perseverence. But Theodar, a "rebellious teenager" (by dwarven standards) would have none of it. Their kingdom was in a slow decline, while the Andorans - who didn't even bother with nobility - were ascendent. After an argument and a particularly harsh punishment from his father, Theodar left his home, and has lived with the Andorans ever since, settling temporarily in Oakhurst to build connections and soak in the smell of freedom. He now works for the local tavernkeep, brewing strong Dwarven ales for the locals, and keeping an ear out for goings ons in the region.

Character Goals:

Theodar wants to bring fresh ideas into the stale Dwarven community that he hails from. Undoubtedly, he will start to change himself, as he falls in with the freedom-loving worshippers of Cayden Cailean or Milani and becomes a fervent adherent.

Writing Sample:

From behind the bar in the tavern, Theodar heard no end to the swirl of rumors, speculating what had happened to the expedition to the Dwarven Citadel. Some spoke of having seen Orcish scouts, the advance of a raiding party. Others of dark sorcery that had animated the bones of the Dwarven dead. Still others spoke of some ancient prophesy that foretold the sundering of the land. Theodar had spent enough time at the bar to believe none of it -- but he was starting to worry as well.

"Hey, Dwarf," said one of the regulars. "Whad'ya make of the dwarven citadel springin' up outta th' ground?"

Theodar didn't mind being called dwarf. Everyone had come to know who he was, and he enjoyed the attention - the feeling of being noticed, and not just another body in a droll Dwarven society. "It's trouble, I tell ya. Dwarves don't abandon their handiwork unless there was a darn good reason." He poured himself a mug of ale and took a long gulp. All this talk was getting him wound up, and he didn't like it one bit.

GM - just so you know - I updated my writing sample, full example is in the profile under background.... Just included a bit more from the character's pov.

Thank you Tae. And welcome Tazo.

Just reminding everyone. I'll do Primary Combatant tonight.

Tomorrow Morn is Arcane (which should be easy unless I get a late comer in the next hour and a half) ;)

Tomorrow Night Healer

Sat AM Trapsmith

Sat Eve Secondary Combatant and Sunday morn The Secondary Caster.

As I post who I choose for each category, I will make it clear who and why for the others, so you know. Then I will post in the discussion thread, my take suggestions for the character...things I like..things I don't like. (Most of the don't likes will be fluff. Im not really going to ask for changes on crunch unless I see it not being beneficial within the framework of the campaign)

Id like to begin play Next Tuesday, 04/09? (If My calcs are correct)

A) Primary combatant
CorvusRed- Alrick the Lesser Human Commoner Intent-Fighter 1st Paladin 2nd Cavalier 3rd

intro:
"Ale, Son, and plenty of it!" his father's voice boomed from the common room. Alrick stashed his book and gave the stew pot a quick stir.

Dutifully filled Pewter mugs were presented to The Elder and his guests. Alrick spied the mayor, and several other men. One wore the sigil of House Naran, a wealthy looking man. Another man, wearing a perfectly coiffed wig was clearly an Elect of the People's council. Normally impressive enough, but when Alrick caught sight of the Eagle Knight epaulets born by the woman sitting next to the Elect, his breath caught in his throat. He stared, openly, for a long moment before his father's heavy hand came to rest on his shoulder.

"Check the stew boy, and no gaping at the guests, hm?" The Elder said in an unusally sotto voice. The huge man winked at this son, and gave him a push back into the kitchen. Alrick paused at the door and turned, admiring the woman again.

Plain, but infused with authority and strength, she seemed aloof from the laughter and reminscing of her companions. Her gaze rested on each man in turn, as well as the door, and then rested on Alrick. He justs stared, unsure of what to do. She shot him a quick grin, and her gaze turned back to Alrick's father, his story reaching a typcial crescendo of bluster and volume.

Alrick vanished back in to the kitchen to stir the stew, fishing out his copy of "The Lady Eagle, and grinning as he dove back into the story.

Scranford- Cody Ulshak Human Warrior Intent-Fighter

Hustonj- Larry Human Commoner Intent-Paladin (Warrior of The Holy Light)

intro:
Barry and his boys were up and out, starting the day's chores just after dawn. Larry, the 4th child and 3rd son, had already let their couple of cows out of the barn and mucked their stalls before the world started shaking. Larry's eyes went as wide as the cows' did. Once the shaking stopped the family gathered back at the house by instinct. Tom and Jim were trying to make light of it, and laughing about how hard the chickens were trying to hide. Fran just sat down, looking out towards the field their father, Barry, had left for that morning. Cora, their mother, was trying to get them all to drink a little ale to calm their nerves.

When Barry came running up, he was obviously more agitated than his children had been while waiting for him. He was glowing red from the exertion of running back in from the field and sweating far more than the weather made reasonable. He downed a mug of ale without slowing to breathe, and then turned to Fran. "Go tell Kerowyn there's something moving down in the gorge! I don't know what it is, but I heard metal on stone, I think! Go on, now! Git!"

Barry's sons took turns watching at the edge of the gorge, waiting to see if there was something to raise an alarm about. They had seen the community's heroes walk down into the gorge. They knew that there had been no tell-tale noise, nor any opportunity for these heroes to sneak out, really. When Kerowyn asked for volunteers to go find out what had happened, Cora's response was immediate. "Larry, NO! You can't follow them and vanish too! Stay here, safe, and help make sure we get a good crop this year." Barry didn't say anything. He just nodded and pointed at the barn before holding his wife.

Larry walked into the barn and looked around for a few minutes. "Down into the gorge. Probably into the walls somehow. Pick and shovel seem most likely." With that bit of deep thought behind him, Larry picked up the tools that he thought were probably going to be the most useful, and headed into town to volunteer.

scarrlupio- Lyrralt Calil Human Fighter (Weapon Master)

Edward Sobel- Klor Kragsson Dwarf Fighter (Weapon Master)

intro:
Over the years Klor had tired of the clan ways enough to move to the surface. it was difficult at first But He knew how to survive.

Livin up ere can't be diffrn than in da tunnels? can it? Klor muses to himself as he urges the weary pack mule hualing his gear.

the forest trail winded for a bit utim thre was some brush russtleing ahead.

Klor squints in the light, not fully accustomed to the daylight of the sun yet. you best be on yer way lest ye be wantin' ta git a new indroduction ta yer maker

Klor grabs his battle axe "Tarnack" ready for a fight

Right! show yerself yea no good scabby maggot

at that moment a rabbit hops across the trail from the brush ahead.

ha! I git all werked up fer dat? Klor yer on edge too much He hefts his battle axe on his shoulder and turns to grab the reins of Bessie. when a good for nothing flea ridden little green goblin maggot makes a leap for him.

catching Klor by surprise the gbli's dogslicer cuts into his leg leaving a deep gash.

What in the nine hells Klor stumbled under the pain of the cut.

Blasted surface goblins were trickier than the lower ones. Klor need to be on his toes.

finding his feet once more Klor spun around swinging Tarnack at the sound of the approaching goblin as it leapt at him severing the green vermin's head clean off.

Klor remained ready for more dey never travel alone. Best be on me guard.

grabbing an old rag from the saddlebag Klor bound up the wound. it seemed pretty deep, might need a healer for that cut he thought.

after a couple of hours of watching and waiting for the next wave of goblin invaders the forest trail seemed quiet.

Knew I'd scare em off, dey knew dey were dealin with a Kragsson dwarf

Klor, along with Bessie continued along the trail Klor limping under the pain of the cut, progress was slower that expected.

eventually the forest trial lead the two to the village of Oakhurst. It seemed like a pleasent enough place. so Klor limped along leading Bessie.

the stay at Oakhurst went from a quick overnight to a few more days, then just one more week, till finally Klor became a near permenant fixture in the town.

Klor set himself up as a blacksmith. It was good to be on forge again, it had been so long. feeling the hammer in his hand, the pounding of the heated metal against the anvil, reminded him of home.

Klor's leg never properly healed. and still today he walks with a limp. when asked how he got it...he never answeres with the same story. sometimes he was slaying a great dragon , others it was hoard of orcs. but he never mentions goblins.

Jubal Breakbottle- ?? Elf Warrior Intent-Ranger

Jubal Breakbottle- ?? Human Aristocrat Intent-Gunslinger (Mysterious Stranger)

Ridge- Ekan Waterfield Halfling Illusionist

Wow, if I don't get in, I really will have only myself to blame :o

You can do it, Ridge. I have faith.

I am anxious to see if I make the cut, er not cut! <(0_o)>

A very very tough decision.

Several excellent choices in here.

How I see the characters-

Alric- decent ties to the area, creative background. good on following instructions. Quick to help. checked in regularly. potential for good rp.

Cody- My favorite for the intro, posted somewhat regularly, Like the concept, as a polearm specialist could be an issue in some parts but could be excellent in others. this is a wash.

Larry- checked in regularly, excellent concept, great ties to the area. good rp potential

Lyrralt- eager to play, excellent concept, decent ties to the area. could be a fun character to have in the game. a more utilitarian design that the other three at this point.

Klor- awesome character. biggest downfall...2 other dwarves as possible characters. and I want some diversity. great ties to area though, and would really bring some good rp to the game.

Jubals Elf Ranger- really really interesting character. I liked this one second best of all 7. downside- quitting once and then having a hard time following instructions. Archer for primary combatant would be bad....(but you knew that already ;) )

Jubals Gunsmith/face- I like this one, and where some dm's do not care for firearms, I do not have a problem with them, because they bring their own problems with them :D The role playing aspect of this character is a draw. downside is as the other character...quitting, hard time following instructions and a ranged combatant in the melee role. (once again..I know this isnt the slot you were shooting for hehehe pun intended...but i had to have you in this mix to be fair)

as I said Tough Tough Decisions. If I had to rate these characters in the attraction for this slot itd be

In the end I Want this character to be exceptional in combat out of the gate so neither of the commoner turned hero's works for this slot...and neither of Jubals, because of the ranged. so I end up with 3 possible-

Cody, Lyrralt, and Klor. Lyrralt- Im actually afraid of your eagerness to play and relative newness on the boards. Its just as likely the quick attraction could turn to boredom. So Im not choosing you because of that.

Now it was down to Klor and Cody. Both bring a lot. In the end it was merely the fact that I really really like Klor.

so without Further adieu Welcome to Game Klor Kragsson. Lets start working on your character.

Im sorry I couldnt let cody or Lyrralt in...for the others- Saturday.

Now

B) An Arcanist (has to be developed towards an Arcane Caster)
Ridge- Ekan Waterfield Halfling Illusionist

and

D) A Trapsmith (has to have trap finding and in the 6 skill ranks classes or above
WesternWolf777-Grommund Geargrip Dwarven Rogue

you know youre in...so you can start working on your characters and move to the discussion thread.

maybe the fact Klor is a Dwarven Hearthguard and Grommund is an Exiled Dwarf will cause some interesting situations.

Congrats Klor, Ekan and Grommund!!! I wish I had an uncontested category too! I look forward to Saturday! Can't wait to hear if I made it or not. This game sounds like a lot of fun.

The Party Vetted

Edward Sobel- Klor Kragsson Dwarf Fighter (Weapon Master)

intro::

Klor's leg never properly healed. and still today he walks with a limp. when asked how he got it...he never answeres with the same story. sometimes he was slaying a great dragon , others it was hoard of orcs. but he never mentions goblins.

and
Formally- Ridge- Ekan Waterfield Halfling Illusionist

Intro::
Ekan had sighed wistfully when he saw the adventurers headed off to explore the citadel. They were doing what he longed to do. He should, he thought with a bit of a frown, had stepped forward and offered his services as well, but whether it was his mother's asking him not to go, or his own insecurities, he had not. The more he thought about it, the less it set well in his belly.

Andorans, be they human, halfling, or other, had a phrase for taking your own path: On the Wing. Ekan longed to be on the wing. He wondered if another chance would come again. To his surprise, it did! Three days after the first party had gone out and a new call was heard. Another party to find, perhaps save, the first one. Ekan silently rejoiced at the chance, and then immediately felt ashamed for not thinking of those poor missing folks first.

Still, the Heroes of Oakhurt in need was just one more reason he had to do this. Gathering his gear, goods, and precious book together, Ekan whistled for his familiar, and raced to the mayor's office. Hopefully, by the time his mother found out, he'd be committed to an adventure.

Was looking forward to some PbP, and this campaign did look like alot of fun. HOpe you guys have a blast. I will probably keep up with the gameplay and see how it goes, if nothing else just to familiarize myself with the process of it.

Ooooh, just one more day of waiting....

Liberty's Edge

Huzzah! On, Andoran!

C) A Healer aka Divine Caster

JAF0- Tae Aasimar Oracle (Spellscar)

intro:

While she considered herself no hero, Tae heard the mayor's call even in her small hovel on the outskirts of the small town. One of her many 'voices' told her of it and her heart leapt in her chest. She wasn't sure why at first. She had known all along, had felt it from the beginning, that the earthquake was no natural event. That the entire party sent to investigate it might be lost was sad indeed.

Tae finished the tea she was making for Lorna's cough, and packaged it up. Rather than simply run over to her house and drop it off, she dressed for travel, gathered up a pack, and headed into town. After stopping off at Lorna's with the tea, she headed to the mayor's office, her footsteps almost strange to her, as if she were following a course she wasn't directing herself.

When she got to the mayor's office, she was struck with second thoughts. She was never really accepted in town, and now she wanted their acceptance on a quest to find the town's heroes? What was she thinking? She looked around in panic, but was alone in the waiting room. Was no one else answering the call, or were they already all in with the mayor? She waited nervously...

New England Frost Giant- Zarrick Deshain Adept Intent-Cleric (Merciful Healer)

intro:
In his daily routine of going over the temple's tithe ledger, Zarrick sits at his small desk. A knock on the door interrupts his concentration of counting multiple numbers, so now he must start all over. "In the name of Serenrae, who is it?" he says in a gruff manner. To his surprise it is his mentor Warren Lightbringer. Zarrick lowers his head and says, "Forgive me Mentor, I, I, didn't realize it was you." Warren with his hands on his hips, smiles and replies, "It is quite alright Zarrick, you are forgiven." He pauses for a few moments and continues. "I have disturbing and exciting news to bring to your attention. It seems the group of adventurers that were sent out to investigate the old dwarven citadel have not been heard from for quite some time. The mayor is looking for another group to go and find out what has happened to them. You have been training for many years young Zarrick and I feel it is time for you to go out and put your talents to good use." Zarrick interupts and replies, "Are you sure I am ready?" The old cleric say to him, "You are more than ready for this quest. Your training with healing magic will be of great importance to a small band of adventurers. Have faith in yourself as Serenrae and I both do." Zarrick sits back and thinks about what his old friend and mentor has told him. After a short while he looks up and says, "If you really think I can do this, it will be an honor to go and help this group and also spread the good word of Serenrae." Warren Lightbringer smiles and says to him, "You will not disappoint me or the Dawnflower Goddess Serenrae."
"Before you go I have something for you Zarrick. When I found you and your parents I said a prayer for them and checked your home. I found this pouch with the money they had saved. I thought it only right to give it to you when you most needed it." he hands the pouch over and bows to Zarrick. "Thank you Mentor he says in a shaky voice. I will use this wisely." He gets up from the chair gives Warren a hug and leaves the temple to get ready for his first adventure, and perhaps his destiny.

Tazo- Theodar Urgaad Dwarven Aristocrat Intent-Inquisitor

intro:

Who will answer the call?

Bumple Heritone Fie will.
1. A Character Concept adhering to the Character Creation Rules.
-Concept is Race, Class, Probably Archetypes and party roll.
Gnome, Commoner->Druid, Support Caster/secondary combatant.

2. ** spoiler omitted **

3. ** spoiler omitted **

Im sorry the recruitment has been closed already . Thank you for your interest. A day earlier and I would have allowed it, but it wouldnt be fair to the others here to consider your character when they have been so good about their entries.

Im terribly sorry.

The Exchange

Yeah. I blinked and was still thinking it was Thursday. [eyeroll]. I removed the submission post. No worries. Sounds like fun. I rather enjoyed your way of wrapping in the backstory of the chosen PC. Congrats all. My character will just keep on Fishing (profession).

This one was fairly easy for me.

Here's my thoughts on the three entrants.

JAF0- Tae Aasimar Oracle (Spellscar)---a fun character to have in the game. A living rod of wonder. (though going Witch will lessen that to some degree but still have other excellent role playing opportunities. You lost a slight bit of cred for posting a character archetype from a source I didnt approve before posting, however in all fairness you did say you could go Ancestor instead if Id rather so I didnt hold anything against you for that. I like the character Concept. Also will give you plenty to augment the party with in other manners, including picking up a bit of slack from the Illusionist in the arcane evocation area ;)

New England Frost Giant- Zarrick Deshain Adept Intent-Cleric (Merciful Healer)- This character is all I could ask for in a Divine Caster. The Merciful Healer Archtype is just icing on the cake. Being able to go to 3rd level Adept and possibly get a familiar at 2nd level could be interesting as well. However choosing this character has the party needing additional healing initially...so this would be a tricky choice.

Tazo- Theodar Urgaad Dwarven Aristocrat Intent-Inquisitor- ahh yes I do so love Dwarven characters, however I have a hard time with the fit of the background as it is soo similar to Klor's. How many dwarves come to Oakhurst and stay longer because they like the quaint commonfolk. I dont fiund fault in the application Tazo, its good its fun it fits many needs. You did a good job with things, I just have a hard time wrapping my head around 3 dwarves in a party of 6.

so for healer my choice is A) a divine caster who has more arcane capability than divine, a limited divine caster who will have some arcane ability (spell list) and will become a potent healer later, or a character with limited healing out of the gate....more skills and combat ability.

Im sure you can see why this is a pretty easy choice for this slot.

so party lets welcome-

New England Frost Giant- Zarrick Deshain Adept Intent-Cleric as the Primary Healer to the group.

Now Im going to break in my plan since the other two are the only ones up for Secondary Caster---so Ill just do that now while they are fresh in my mind.

JAF0- Tae Aasimar Oracle (Spellscar)---welcome to the group.

Sorry tazo, It was merely the Dwarf part that edged her in and you out. Because I liked your character, but needed the diversity.

and since Im on a roll----

E) A Secondary Combatant (Be developed towards a +1 BAB and have either divine caster or 4+ skill class),
A-CorvusRed- Alrick the Lesser Human Commoner Intent-Paladin 2nd Cavalier 3rd
B-Hustonj- Larry Human Commoner Intent-Paladin (Warrior of The Holy Light)
C-Jubal Breakbottle- ?? Elf Warrior Intent-Ranger
D-Jubal Breakbottle- ?? Human Aristocrat Intent-Gunslinger (Mysterious Stranger

These characters are fresh in my mind from yesterday and because I cant see the 3 of you waiting to know for 24 hours when everyone else knows...heres my mental scales in action----

A&B essentially very similar characters...will be lacking in power initially for great power later, but they will be dragging behind the party in capabilities. The role playing opportunities are endless.

C a strong entry. party could use the help in divine casting sooner than a&B provide. potential for good role playing opportunities into the campaign. party could use an archer.

D an interesting entry...one that in many ways Id love to have. Nothing like saying...the whole dungeon was alerted because they heard your boomstick. Oh Im sorry about the wandering monster roll...It happens when monsters hear explosions...they know their will be bodies.

Yeah I love having Gunslingers in a group. The logistics alone become fun to role play. ;)

However Jubal, the biggest downfall was your flaking out because of a perceived disdvantage. Truth be told The Elven Character had the 2nd best advantage within the entrants because It works in the group.

What I have to weigh though is what are the odds you will flake again for some reason. So I went looking at your alias' and was pleasantly surprised to find that you are in 4 games that look like theyve been around a bit..which makes my decision harder because Where I wouldve dismissed the character based on the flaking, in all fairness there may have been other things going on in your head than just that.

So Commoner turns Paladin or Ranger is essentially the issue, since though Id like to have things going blam, I like The Ranger better.

so it boils down to role playing vs roll playing for me...The Commoner goes Paladin is better for the role playing and the Ranger is better for the role playing.

Unfortunately for you, in my heart, role playing wins everytime.

Im sorry Jubal, I have to go with one of the two Commoner turns Paladins. Though I dont want you to feel bad about things because it almost came down to a coin toss in my head, and in the end your good sportsmanship about things almost carried the day.

Now it turns to which Commoner turn Paladin I like...and this is sooo dang tough.

I honestly cannot make the decision between the two.

so in this case it is a coin toss.

Odds Alric Evens Larry

who plays: 1d6 ⇒ 5
