Interplanetary Adventure, New Worlds, Ancient Civilizations, Alien Species, and more, with a delightful mix of magic and technology, Legendary Games brings you a sword-and-planet adventure path; authored by some of the biggest names in the RPG business. Legendary Planet will take your characters across the multiverse, traveling alien gateways created by ancient, god-like beings to exotic worlds and back again in an incredible campaign like none other. Sword-swingers and spell-slingers stand alongside scoundrels and seekers for cosmic enlightenment as they unravel conspiracies and cryptic alliances bent on universal domination... or annihilation!
This epic saga begins with a prelude adventure beginning the campaign in a more traditionally prosaic fantasy setting, a pastoral world to which only the first fingers of alien influence have yet been stretched… Golarion…
A strange sickness afflicts the frontier settlement of Holver's Ferry - a nearly forgotten village in the Varisian forest of Churlwood - threatening to overwhelm its citizens with an alien madness. Already the town has nearly torn itself apart, and the local sheriff is missing. When the PCs brave the surrounding wilderness as the village's latest newcomers, the beleaguered townsfolk desperately turn to them for assistance. But can these erstwhile heroes trace the diseased carrier to its source and solve the mystery before they, too, succumb to The Assimilation Strain?
The ‘Crunch’
- Characters start the adventure as Level 1
- All classes are acceptable (including the oft-maligned Gunslinger, Samurai, Ninja and Summoner – note that the Pathfinder Unchained version of the Summoner is preferred to the original APG version).
- 20-point ability buy (no stat lower than 8 / higher than 18 AFTER racial bonuses / penalties).
- Maximum HP for your class (further level increases in HP shall be average for class rounded up)
- Core and Featured Races from the Advanced Race Guide are acceptable.
- One trait maybe selected – a further campaign trait from the Legendary Planet Players Guide will become available when you reach Level 3 and start the ‘To Worlds Unknown’ adventure.
- Average starting gold for your class.
- Non-evil alignments only.
- All character options must originate from Paizo published Pathfinder products; No 3rd Party Materials.
- …and, the number one important rule…build a character that you care about…and have fun!!!
Your characters will start their adventure at an inn on the road between the Varisian cities of Riddleport and Magnimar - why they are travelling between the cities and whether they know each other is entirely up to you...
Recruitment will be open for a week and a half, during which time I will try and answer any questions, with an expected close date of 19th September, Midnight GMT. I will make my selection over the following weekend and look to start the adventure around the 23rd September. The selected persons must be able to commit to posting at least once per day during the week.

Lady Ladile |

Dot for great interest as well as an endorsement for Zed - you couldn't ask for a better GM!
Leaning toward a Drunken Master monk...though if the game my (Unchained) summoner is in ends like it looks like it might, I'll adjust her profile and apply with her. Either way, I hope characters with a bit of a comedic bent won't be frowned on - but don't worry, either of them can be serious when it's warranted!

Haladir |

My, this is tempting! I'm not sure if I have time to join another campaign, but I'll echo Eschie's and Ladile's sentiments: Zed is an excellent GM!
Are archetypes from Paizo sources allowed? I'm considering a barbarian with the Savage Technologist archetype (from Numeria: Land of Fallen Stars). I'd probably take the Amateur Gunslinger feat somewhere along the line, too.

DekoTheBarbarian |

How do you feel about characters that are a little less intelligent than others? Been wanting to play my Pathfinder version of my original D&D character, and Deko not tu gud at thunkin'. Otherwise, I got a bunch of different ideas. Also, how do you feel about some of the Paizo alien races, like the Lashunta, Kasathas, and Androids?

GM Zed |

DM Lil' Eschie, Lady Ladile and Haladir - you're very kind...
Lady Ladile - No problem at all with characters that lapse into comedic moments / observations / misfortunes - as per, 'the most important rule', please suggest a character that you really want to play... If it isn't the most serious character the whole time, then that's fine - although don't be surprised if I also select someone to act as a dramatic counterpoint!!!
Haladir - I have PM'd you re: the Savage Technologist archetype.
DekotheBarbarian / Nohwear - yes, Androids are most definitely allowed - Kasatha and Lashunta are not, in the first instance, permitted... When the adventure goes off world, there may be opportunity to select an alien race (in the unfortunate event that some terrible xenomorph ends the interplanetary career of your original character too soon).
DekotheBarabarian - as per my answer to Lady Ladile, if you really want to play an intellectually challenged character then that's completely okay (Guilty secret, I have also hankered to play my first ever D&D character in a PF game - the imaginitvely named 'Dillan the Dextrous': guess the min/maxed stat!!!) - note the stat requirements though; minimum stat is 8...

Hmmm... I told myself I wasn't going to apply for this... but it sounds pretty awesome, and there's so many familiar names... and it seems like such a great adventure for my eclectic (odd) astronomer...
Purely hypothetically... are you at all open to allowing wildblooded bloodlines with the eldritch heritage feats (or VMC sorcerer, I suppose)?

The Archlich - Legendary Planet is an AP under development by Legendary Games - the second instalment, 'To Worlds Unknown' is about to be published and after that, the plan is to write adventures all the way up to level 20. A Kickstarter for the adventure was run over the summer and raised enough to produce seven separate adventures with associated articles, bestiaries, gazetteers and fiction...
This is the Link to The Legendary Planet Kickstarter
And, because it's cool and it gives a little taster - after 'The Assimilation Strain', we move on to...
To Worlds Unknown is the first chapter in the adventure path written by Jim Groves, a 64-page adventure for 2nd to 5th level player characters.
Fire. And a choking haze of smoke blurring the luminous glow of strange lights on the walls and floor. Shouts. And an ever-present ringing in your ears, piercing your brain with the sharp trauma of an urgent alarm. You stumble from a bed you don't recognize, and into the path of strangers you don't know--some disturbingly alien, yet all fleeing an unknown catastrophe. Where are you? How did you get here? What is happening? There are no easy answers to these questions. But your opportunity to discover them starts now. And they're destined to take you To Worlds Unknown.
From there....
The Scavenged Codex is the second chapter in the adventure path written by Mike Shel for 5th to 8th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a post-apocalyptic desert planet.
Dead Vault Descent is the third chapter in the adventure path written by Matt Goodall for 8th to 11th level player characters. This adventure takes place on the blasted surface and the endless catacombs of a tidally-locked world.
Confederates of the Shattered Zone is the fourth chapter in the adventure path written by Richard Pett for 11th to 14th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a shattered world, amid the abandoned mining colonies of the asteroid belt.
The Depths of Desperation is the fifth chapter in the adventure path written by Steven T. Helt for 14th to 17th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a water world with little to no land mass.
Mind Tyrants of the Merciless Moons is the sixth chapter in the adventure path written by Tim Hitchcock for 17th to 19th level player characters. This adventure takes place among the moons of a gas giant.
To Kill A Star is the seventh chapter in the adventure path written by Jason Nelson for 19th to 20th level player characters. This adventure takes place on a constructed Dyson-sphere surrounding a waning star.
The AP will touch on a number of design areas not routinely covered by Paizo's own offerings: Play up to Level 20, the possibility of Psionics (using Dreamscarred's rules) and alsothe option of some Mythic play.... So yeah, pretty exciting!

I try not to run an ability under 8 anyway.
As for Kasathas, it's written in their entry that they actually live on Golarion, mostly in the wilds of Numeria.
No one is quite sure how kasathas first came to Golarion, even the kasathas have differing accounts. The fact that they are primarily found in the wilds and hidden places of Numeria suggests that they have some relation to the androids and other strange beings of that savage land.

Gobo Horde |

I second the question on psionics.
Whenever I am thinking of travel and exploration I think of my favorite psion Nomad Midioto :) a very fast and hyperactive elan (sometimes hes a gnome).
However if psionics is a no-go then next comes Bosh, the Very Bouncy Goblin Roof Running Rogue (that's a mouthful :p)
I just got to come up with a reason for Bosh to not get lynched at first sight in the tavern :/
Can I take a drawback? (Cuz they are fun)
Edit: well never mind on the name Bosh, at one point I know I had that name on an alias but apparently changed it and then someone else snatched it up :/
New name incoming!

The Archlich - Firearms, I shall go with my Golarion default of them being ‘Emerging’ technology – although as you move to different worlds, the tech level will certainly change!!! As to acquiring ammo, etc - I haven't seen the adventures that follow 'the Assimilation Strain' but I am sure there will be plenty of opportunity when off-world to resupply...
Nate Lange - I don't see any problem with that.
Lady Ladile / All - as a minimum for variant rules, I expect to use Hero Points, Variant Multiclassing (from Pathfinder Unchained) and Automatic Bonus Progression (again from Pathfinder Unchained).
Redblade8 / Gobo Horde - Psionics don't come in until fairly late (as far as I know!!!) but I am sure there will be ways of getting to play with the Dreamscarred classes at some point - I think the Paizo Occult classes are also likely to come into play in later adventures... although you can select those classes from the outset.
Johnnycat93 - No problem with reflavouring content...
DekotheBarbarian - There are Kasathas, true enough... But I think they are also exceptionally rare... Mechanically though, I think there is also the balance issue of being a four-armed humanoid / much like the balance issues you get with 'flying at level 1' races such as the Strix - so, for now, I'm still looking to keep folks on Core and Featured Races from the ARG but... with other Golarion themed races by request - Android is Now Allowed.
Gobo Horde - okay then... two traits with one drawback is now allowed...

Prospective Spacefarers!!!
This may be useful:
The overall plotline of the campaign will whisk PCs to many unknown places, and any character capable of shedding light on the unknown will secure a significant role in helping others adapt to their situation. Classes with options that involve Knowledge and the pursuit of it, such as the Knowledge domain for clerics, the Knowledge mystery and spirit, the Archivist bard archetype, the Mindchemist alchemist archetype, and even the Cloistered Cleric archetype can certainly excel at unraveling the mysteries presented by the adventure path. The Investigator class can also fit very well here, and their ability to boost their skills to address certain situations can prove handy indeed.
The Legendary Planet Adventure Path also deals with planet-hopping and should prove a natural fit for characters who ponder and have connections to the stars, giving them much to ruminate about and play up the angle of being far from home. Thus, oracles and shamans with the heavens mystery or spirit should feel right at home, as would any sorcerer with the starsoul bloodline.
Given the many different shapes and sizes of alien races, this adventure path also presents a fine opportunity for alchemist characters to delve into stranger discoveries such as wings, vestigial arms, or even a tumor familiar. In addition, their bombs may find creative use in many different situations involving alien physiology and technology, ensuring they can meaningfully contribute during all phases of gameplay.
Bards are also welcomed almost anywhere, and can easily enrapture locals at taverns and other public places with tales of far-flung locations, exotic beasts, and wondrous magic. For players who enjoy telling stories, this adventure path will present many opportunities for roleplay in winning over such inhabitants.
Some classes, such as monks, inquisitors and paladins, often tie themselves more strongly to certain organisations than other classes. But, given the planet-hopping nature of this campaign, it’s best to limit this restriction so your character has more adventuring freedom while exploring the multiverse. That said, other opportunities should arise later in the adventure path to align these characters to similar organisations and coalitions. Thus, playing character such as these can still provide interesting options and opportunities.
Given the themes of the sword-and-planet genre, gunslingers and swashbucklers should fit very well with this campaign. With their heroic abilities and daring deeds, each should enable a higher sense storytelling and dynamic play at the table.

Presenting Abxy Qwerty, Android Investigator of the Rahadoum Pure Legion. Raised for 7 years in the Pure Legion since the 'death' of his body's previous personality and his 'birth', he had always known how disastrous trusting in the gods could be. Finding himself with a good intelligence and a knack for finding secrets, he devoted himself to ferreting out any religious worshipers residing in his country. One day, hearing rumors of an uncontrollable disease in Varisia that may have it's roots in the divine, regardless of above or below, Abxy was sent to investigate and report on if it would be a danger to Rahadoum.
If the background doesn't work, whether because you don't want us knowing about the disease before hand or something else, let me know and I can change it. Otherwise, what do you think about the crunch?
