Aha - thank you, Mello of Blades. I've adjusted my character sheet.
Well, they'll have more chance of hitting a 15, but I still think we get out of this OK.

Naralesh |

Yesssssssssssssssssssss the horse is free. Mello, do you want Godwin to control Anselm, or do you prefer to handle animal companions yourself?
I want to see that glorious warhorse trample right into the middle of the bandits!

Gavriil |

I should have run, they're mopping the floor with us. XD
EDIT: Also, How do you want me to deal with opportune parry and riposte, Mello? It says I have to declare using it before the attack roll is made. Can I still use it this turn?

Talia Khavortorov |

Man, Gavriil, I'd run for it.
Sorry Naralesh and Godwin. I enjoyed both of your company, and expect to be joining you soon :)
Mello, you have nothing to be sorry about. That's a brutal run from the dice roller...

Talia Khavortorov |

Yeah, Morphling came up with a fantastic backstory. One of my favorites that I've ever read.

![]() |

How about this:
Gavriil flees north, figuring the sooner he gets out of bandit territory the better. On the way, he runs into three travelers headed south, who recently lost their fourth companion to a bandit ambush. Itching for revenge themselves (and having another charter from the Swordlords to put bandits down, as they're one of the other groups the Swordlords sent), Gavriil leads them to Oleg's, where they track the bandits, catch up with them on the road, and prepare to enact a horrifically violent revenge.
No parley, diplomacy, quarter, or mercy will be offered this time. Or ever again.

Talia Khavortorov |

...well I am never making a character I can get emotionally attached to ever again. This thread has seriously messed me up.
I am so sorry, Morphling! If there is any silver lining, I think it is that you have a really cool character that you can submit to another game, and he'll have a great chance of getting selected.
No parley, diplomacy, quarter, or mercy will be offered this time. Or ever again.
If somehow Talia survives this, I think she'll be in agreement with you on this, at least regarding bandits.

Talia Khavortorov |

Morphling, Pahlok - what characters are you thinking about? If I have to make a new one, I'd like to come up with something complimentary.

![]() |

On the flipside, while gunslinger sounds fun, I was really, really, really, really, really excited to play my first ever wizard in a real game, so...
Ugh.
But wizards can die at level 1 too easily so I'm never trying that again, ever. Only going to take that class if I can start above level 3 or so, so it's a game, not a damn coin flip.

![]() |

Alright.
I'm thinking of doing a hardened halfling bounty hunter (and future sheriff) who is a fervent believer in Torag's particular blend of cold hard justice. He's headed into the Stolen Lands armed with his pistol, determination, and a badge that is one day going to strike fear into the hearts of bandits everywhere.
*cocks gun* They won't even know what hit 'em.

Mello, if I used the Isger Fixer trait on a misfired gun, ignoring its broken condition, would that also ignore the chance for it to explode if I misfire it a second time?
If not, would it prevent the misfire chance from increasing due to being broken, since I'm ignoring all penalties for it being broken?
Second Question - if I take the same trait Naralesh did, can I get a pony or riding dog instead of a horse?

Mello of Blades |

Talia - I'll give you two options. I can either have the bandits capture her, in which case the party of three will return to the fort to rescue her along with Oleg and Svetlana, or they'll kill her and you can remake to be in the new group.
Morphling - Yes, it would not explode, and the misfire chance would not increase. However, if you were to misfire it again, it would regain its broken condition. Also, sorry, I won't be allowing drawbacks for a third trait.
Also wow, I don't think I've ever shed a tear for a dead level 1 character before.

Godwin Artifice |

Hey now, don't count Talia out just yet. Anselm can totally solo 4 bandits and save her all on his own. (Hopefully)
Edit: Or not. Wow those rolls were awful.
Double Edit: Also, I'm making an unarmed rogue-like character. It'll be sweet.

Thanks for the ruling on the trait. What action would you say it is to use the trait to "tinker with" the gun? It's not mentioned.
(I probably won't be taking the trait anyway, at least not until Extra Traits becomes viable, since I only get two.)
Also wow, I don't think I've ever shed a tear for a dead level 1 character before.
I shed a literal tear writing that. Made me feel a lot better to give him a send-off post like that.
Edit: Or not. Wow those rolls were awful.
Yep! It's official. The dice gods hate us.
This is the part of the movie where I sit with my hands over my eyes so I don't have to watch the horsie die either. >_>
Can we just... fade to black and not have any more tragedy tonight?
Or have Talia jump astride Anselm and escape with her life? We lost, at this point, maybe you can just be merciful and let us have this, if Talia wants to keep her character.

Talia Khavortorov |

@ Mello - Talia is going to surrender. She thinks she can keep herself and the Levetons alive at this point, with a little bargaining. Post upcoming.
@ Morphling - that was a GREAT send-off!
@ Godwin - sweet! An actual rogue, or a brawler or monk?

Wait, he said you can just escape on Anselm! Do you want to just do that instead?
I assume you meant she can just escape automatically, right Mello?
I would really not want to surrender to the bandits who clearly want to do really horrible things to you. >_>

Talia Khavortorov |

Yeah, I thought of that, but Talia thinks she can forestall any further misery from happening, to herself or anyone still alive. She is pretty sure that they won't hurt her, as she can be ransomed, and she thinks she just has to appeal to the bandits' greed to save the others.

Talia Khavortorov |

All of the above, actually. :D The first level is going to be in Snakebite Striker Brawler, then 4 levels of Swash/Scout Rogue, then 2 levels of MoMS Monk, then the rest in Slayer or something else.
Wow! I'm interested to see this build in action!

Mello of Blades |

Alright. I've messaged Asha to see if she is still interested in joining. If not, I will reopen recruitment temporarily specifically for divine casters.

![]() |

Thank the dice gods for their mercy. That was the most important bluff check any of us might ever make...
...you know, I just realized we might have to storm a literal fort for this next fight.
Can our next adventure be to hunt down some nice, defenseless butterflies or something? We seem to be having some difficulty getting assigned the easy tasks.

Gavriil |

I'm not sure how you want to proceed from here, Mello. Whether Gavriil makes it all the way back to town or runs into the new characters on the road. I just put up the post to keep things moving.

Talia Khavortorov |

Assuming that Gavril will be around to provide information, I think you guys may be able to stealth attack at least a couple of guards and divide and conquer. Get the jump on them and we can do what they did to us.
There's only four, so if they're split up at all, it should be manageable. Talia is going to do her best to keep them distracted and off-base.

Mello of Blades |

Okay, okay, I'll stop dangling you haha. This isn't much of a spoiler since you're about to find out once the new characters are in order. In addition to Pahlok and Morphling's new PCs and Asha, they will be in the company of Kesten, a level 3 fighter, and three of his soldiers. They are the group that was actually charged to protect Oleg's, and Gavriil will run into the seven of them along the road.

Talia Khavortorov |

I'm actually going with a different idea than the one I mentioned, though I'm still not sure what yet. I'm not fond of arcane casters, and I want something that will be useful early on.
Warpriest? You can tank and divine cast...
Inquisitor? Same deal + wilderness skills...
