Basically, Brokk'r, Sigurd, and Pygmy can all plan on using fortune this round and next round. Brokk'r didn't use it his first round and it was lost (didn't matter, he hit anyway).


The animals are called brush thylacines. They are marsupials. They are known for their very strong jaws (expanded crit range-- 19-20).

Pygmy is feeling rather invigorated. He thinks it because of the awesome likeness of himself that Rai carved, but it's probably the number of spells being cast on him.

Following Diceros's orders, he moves over to the other nearby beast and tries to set up a flanking opportunity for his friend.

Ike nodded at Arlen's request and opted to stick close to the old wizard, keeping a look out for anything that tried to come close to the elf. He flexed as his wings sharpened into serrated edges, ready to slash at anything that had the audacity to come even remotely close.

SUMMARY OF ROUND 1/ ROUND 2

While Brokk'r misses, Pygmy, Sigurd, and Rai all connect and do good damage. Ike prepares himself to defend the cackling Arlen.

Diceros does something rather tricky. He casts a spell onto his hand, which glows bright white with cold power. Then, he takes a five foot step, and punches the thylacine. The thylacine shivers with the cold and becomes fatigued! I altered/expanded your move a bit, Diceros. Casting a spell provokes an attack of opportunity, so what I had you do is first cast the spell, then take a five foot step to be next to him, and then discharge it into the thylacine, thus avoiding the AoO. Casting the spell is a standard action, and you can hold the charge until you discharge it. Actually touching the target is a free action.

The four thylacines are still on their feet and fighting. #2 just stepped on a caltrop, and he moves slowly, and is not yet able to enter the battle.

#3 squares off against Pygmy! It lunges, but misses!

#4, who just ripped into Brokk'r, does not like the cackling Arlen. The noise is grating on his ears, so he takes a five foot step at Arlen. As he does so, Ike swings and hits for 7! But the thylacine continues its attack and bites Arlen's leg for 8 damage!

#1 is fatigued, but that does not stop him from hitting Sigurd, and dealing 5 damage!

Ike snarled at Thylacine 4 as it reared back to try and hurt his charge. Not today! Ike's wings extended up and over his head, before slicing down on the thylacine like big guillotines, hacking over and over to either grab its attention, or put it down!

The party has a flurry of activity that downs three of the four creatures in a single turn.

At this moment, the little fairy dragon flitters into camp, flying in little circles and acting distressed. The grasshopper bounds in as well squeaking, "There are more! There are more! They are coming! Watch out! Watch out!"

Rai has just enough time to glance up at the warning when a new thylacine plows into him! On the other side of the fire, the same thing happens to Diceros! Somehow, they dodge the attacks. It must have been the last second warning! and typical terrible GM rolls

Arlen, still cackling madly, doesn't see the thylacine steps up behind him and bite down! Arlen is hit for 5 damage!

Intelligent enemies will see you as a dangerous spellcaster; unintelligent enemies will get riled up by the laugh. I don't see a way for you to NOT draw aggro.

anybody able to throw CLW on Arlen? He's getting pretty low!

Diceros does not do the noble thing and stand in the gap between the thyngys and the witch, but instead does the best attack he can by backing out and getting his spear ready for a large upper-cut. But that doesn't seem to do much!

Ike panted a bit, angry at the grumpy little creatures and wondering what in the world has them all riled up! But the sound of the little grasshopper bounding in, along with the little dragon circling above, catches his attention!

"Hey! Grasshopper! What's got these things so angry? How do we calm them down!?" The two little creatures seemed familiar with the area... maybe they knew the source! And if they knew the source, maybe they could quell it! In the meantime... Arlen needed help! He slid over to the thylacine chewing on his leg and brought up a pair of mighty, razor sharp wings, before slashing them down on the little brute!

5 ft step to the thylacine Brokk'r is fighting and a standard attack! (I THINK you can make a full attack with a free action...? If not, just one Morphic Weapon). I must've been looking at an older version of the battle map...

Despite being taken by suprise from the thylacine reinforcements, the party lays out plenty of pain. Everyone but Diceros hits and deals damage. Ike puts the finishing touches on the beast that charged from the west. Arlen keeps cackling and five foot steps to the position that Ike left. Ike, you can't reach the one Brokk'r is attacking. You took out the one that Rai and Pygmy damaged.

Diceros gets in an AoO on the beast charging from the east. Spear Thrust: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 2 = 18, 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The grasshopper pipes up,”Thylacines be always in bad mood; like to hunt! Be something got these even more riled up than normal!” The fairy dragon continues to make agitated loop-de-loops in the air. Both of the tiny fairies stay well out of reach of the marsupials.

Thylacine #2 continues to follow up on Arlen, attempting to rend his body into broken bits. Indeed, the thylacines finally get what they were coming for even since the terrible laughing started, as the creature lunges at Arlen, ripping into his throat and dealing 9 damage. Arlen is down and dying!

Thylacine #6 turns to Sigurd after getting a hammer in the side and lunges at him. Sigurd cooly dodges!

I've been debating whether or not to throw CLW on myself for a minute here. I hate healing in combat from a tactics perspective. After this turn for the bad guys, I think I'll either be down or able to get somewhere protected by you tough guys anyway.

GM, totally fair to have the bad guys, whether intelligent or not, go after me. It creates a somewhat fun tactics situation instead of everyone just going toe-to-toe with their guy. Let me know if you guys get tired of protecting the ol' squishy witch.

Pygmy runs into the breach, trying to distract the thylacine from the body on the ground. Truth be told, Pygmy doesn't mind that the laughing has stopped, at least.

Diceros has no choice but to jump back 5 feet and try to swing for the same thylacine by reaching over the fire. He sees a lot of movement, and hopefully can manage to smack it down.

I think you don't because I put fortune on you in round 1 and didn't cackle until round 2 to extend it to round 2 for you. I put it on Sigurd in round 2 and my cackling in round 2 extended it to round 3 for him but just to round 2 for you etc. etc.

Hmm... in that case I'm not sure it ever extended for me since it only lasts until the beginning of your turn and you didn't cackle the first turn. Not that it makes a difference. All my rolls (but one) were crap this fight! :D

Yeah I wasn't sure what I thought of that. I don't think it's all that clear in the text of fortune but the best ruling is probably that I have to cackle in the same round I throw out the fortune to get it extended at all.
