Will save+conviction-bad air: 1d20 + 10 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 4 - 2 = 14
Oh, that's got to be a bad roll.
AP: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
(checks the spoiler and...) ok, I'm literally ONE shy. Am I forgetting any buffs? (Conviction supersedes good hope, and I'm not close enough to Farrukh for his aegis.)
Edit: Actually, KC, does their gaze mimic ALL aspects of feeblemind? Specifically, the 'arcane casters take a -4 penalty on their saving throws vs. the spell' part? Because, if so, I'm hosed regardless of whether I'm forgetting some random one point buff.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Can Eben give himself a saving finale?

Eben MacTeague |

Normally, yes, but I can't use saving finale on either myself or Astraden because I already ended my performance to cast it on Cuetzpalli's attempt to cross the line of 'stay away'.
Which would also mean I used an immediate this round, so even if I still had a performance going I couldn't cast it. Yeah, I think Eben just became Hodor.

Sundakan |

You could do what I suggested Cuetzpalli do for the Repulsion and drop 2 APs on Inexplicable Luck

Eben MacTeague |

I might do that, depending on how KC rules for the feeblemind. (a retroactive +4 will save me if there's not a -4 penalty, but still fails if there is.)

I think it's probably not intended to function that specifically, but I'm not sure.
...yeah, on review, it looks like it 's meant to function pretty much exactly like feeblemind. Sorry.
Also, the "retcon" comment was rhetorical—of course we won't undo previous HP gains. But you should definitely roll a save for the archon if you want it to Aid Farrukh.
Astraden is also within the area of the repulsion, so I still need a save. The archon never should have been able to get into the Writhing Chamber without rolling—it was summoned well before the Harbinger moved in there and cast repulsion. I really don't want to be a nag, but this is why I encourage people to mark their figures and use dotted lines so I can fact-check their movements.

Eben MacTeague |

Well, it does function as Feeblemind, I don't see why there'd be an exception. Did you use Moment of Greatness yet?
Moment of greatness is a 'before you roll' choice, and I didn't make the choice to use it. Eh, well.

Dungeon Kobold |

So I should note that Cuetzpalli, as an arcane caster, takes an additional -4 penalty on his Will save as well.

![]() |

Oops, I forgot negative levels subtract from saves as well. Good thing Astraden hasn't made any saves recently :V
Our bad rolls are just stacking up right now, TBH. We've got two people incapacitated (though, question: if Eben's not capable of shooting during this fight, is there any possibility Forzamele could assert dominance under these rules?), one isolated from the rest of the team who's on very low HP, and a melee fighter who can't engage the enemy in melee. We're soon to be outnumbered, if you don't count the (now useless) statues and archon. But with Astraden down, we can't teleport everyone out in one go (some people would have to escape by air walking upwards). So I don't see any way out of this other than by winning the fight.

Eben MacTeague |

There's nothing stopping me from shooting- feeblemind shouldn't affect that at all- although my tactical decisions would be very, very limited, at best. I was planning on having Forzamele try and dominate Eben anyhow, just so that it can make those decisions for him (using Manyshot, picking the right kind of arrows as needed, etc.) But Forzamele's ego, while reasonably high, is actually not high enough to have a good shot at doing so, in any case. (Since Wisdom doesn't get nuked, my Will save is the same.)

Dungeon Kobold |

I would allow you to apply your APs against the Will save against Forzamele, if that helps.

Eben MacTeague |

Eben watches Astraden become paralyzed and withered by the naga's attacks. "That's okay, she's got a scroll in her backpack, and I can use it to un-paralyze her nnnuuuufyyymtuuuu!" Eben's well trained, compelling voice suddenly loses all coherence and meaning, as random syllables pour out of his mouth in an attempt to make words. "Ptumin! Enuyarif!" His eyes dart around, distractedly.
'You looked into the naga's eyes, didn't you. The one thing you were supposed to avoid...' says Forzamele's voice, somewhat disgustedly, from the bowstring. 'I trust Farrukh won't object if I take the reins this time?'
Will+conviction-bad air: 1d20 + 10 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 4 - 2 = 23
Yeah, even rolling a 6 with an AP isn't gonna do anything for me here. (Forzamele's Ego is 16)
'SERIOUSLY? You're resisting me now, AFTER your brain's been wiped?'
Eben looks around, alarmed, not quite sure where the voice that's coming from a few inches in front of his face is originating. And more than a little alarmed by the sudden pressure-and-release upon his brain.
So, just to confirm- under the banner of 'protecting my friends', I can make a full attack on the naga that just stung Astraden?

![]() |

I'm pretty sure you can voluntarily fail a Will saving throw. Of course, whether lizard-Eben understands that Forzamele is "good" is up to DankeSean :v
e: Yep. "Voluntarily Giving up a Saving Throw: A creature can voluntarily forego a saving throw and willingly accept a spell's result. Even a character with a special resistance to magic can suppress this quality."

Eben MacTeague |

I feel like, in order for that to be justifiable in character, Eben would need to understand what's going on in order to let his instinctual defense down, and I think 'my bow is trying to take over my mind so that I'm marginally more useful' is probably a bit too abstract a concept for poor Eben at the moment. Honestly, the difference between a LizardEben and ForzamelEben would, I think, be very slight, as far as ability to contribute further in any case.

Dungeon Kobold |

Yup, you can absolutely shoot the worm naga. And yeah, you can voluntarily fail a save if you think Eben would be aware enough to do so.

Eben MacTeague |

Eben's distracted gaze fixes itself back on the sight that originally drew his eyes to the naga's in the first place: Astraden's floating, motionless, badly damaged body. "ATY! NNNNNNNUUUUUU!" His fingers, seemingly of their own accord (muscle memory being divorced from the higher brain functions) pluck out a handful of arrows and begins shooting.

As though he remembers that he's supposed to do something after firing off a volley of arrows, Eben does a clumsy softshoe in midair that is nowhere near as impressive (or effective) as a Dance of 23 Steps executed by someone with an intact frontal lobe.

Sundakan |

Now would be a good time for Tanith to abandon fighting the minions (even as dangerous as they are themselves) and help me take down the Harbinger. I have two, maybe three if I'm lucky shots before I knock myself unconscious fighting him. Once the Harbinger's dead, we could potentially flee if need be. We'd have a minimum of 24 hours to rest/recover and come back. If we DON'T finish him, we're probably twice as boned next time. Given even 8 hours to prepare for us to come back he'd probably wipe the floor with us.

Dungeon Kobold |

I will say that this is literally as prepared as the Harbinger gets. It doesn't have any more Overworms chilling out in that pond over there, is what I'm saying.
Despite being reduced to a bestial intellect, Eben's expert shooting lands two shots on the naga. The arrows lodge in its neck, or what passes for a neck, and it lets out a piglike squeal.
Round 8: Carina, Cuetzpalli and Tanith are up.

Dungeon Kobold |

Yeah, it probably can't take another hit like that.
Round 8: Carina and Cuetzpalli are up.

Carina Viera |

Round 8: Actions
Move Action: Move next to Cuetzpalli
Standard Action: Throw Fire Bomb at grievously wounded Naga
Carina starts hurrying over to join the others, twirling a bomb in her fingers before throwing it at the heavily-wounded naga...
Bomb (Haste, PBS, Precise, Mutagen, Good Hope, Bad Air): 1d20 + 13 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 13 + 3 + 1 = 21
Damage?: 6d6 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 1, 5, 4) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 24
I think I was miscalculating my bomb damage somewhat--forgot to account for my headband's INT bonus.
Displacement: 4/12 Rounds
DEX/CON Mutagen
False Life

Carina Viera |

Will Save (Good Hope, Bad Air, Shield Other): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 1 = 27

Dungeon Kobold |

The bomb sears into the naga's green flesh. It screams and burbles, but somehow remains conscious.
Cuetzpalli
Will vs. Feeblemind (doubling moment of greatness): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22
Ranged Attack @Naga: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 13 + 2 = 271d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 13 + 2 = 23 Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 3) = 13
Ranged Attack @GrappledNaga (cover): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 13 + 2 = 23
Running out of options, Cuetzpalli creates three razor-sharp stone discuses and hurls them forth—two at the worm naga in front of him, and one at the grappled naga to his left. It is clear that Cuetzpalli's throwing skills are not quite on par with his swordplay, but nonetheless, the first discuss severs the injured worm naga's head from its body.
Cuetzpalli's APs are now 6/11. He has no more Moment of Greatness (he barely saved with it), and he's used up a second-level spell.
Round 8: The Harbinger is up.
The Harbinger turns back, seeing that the way towards it and Farrukh is now clear. ~ Wretched, useless vermin. Would that you had not slain the rest of Kyuss's servants. As clay to mold to my purposes, these nagas of Kyuss's are...mediocre. ~ It raises its hand towards Tanith. ~ You have done a fine job sitting this fight out so far. Why don't you continue doing so? ~
It takes a step forward, and the world around Tanith seems to distort and bend, becoming more uniform, more mirrored, more...maze-like.
Failure Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 26 Concentration: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (9) + 26 = 35
Farrukh, you get one or two AoOs, depending. First, it tries to five-foot step southeast, which, due to your stance, provokes an attack. Second, it tries to cast while still within your now-enhanced reach, which provokes if you have Combat Reflexes. Don't forget about its Mirror Images, though, and don't forget to roll for Displacement.
If, on the second AoO, you deal at least 26 damage, the spell is disrupted. Feel free to flavor what that looks like.
If you don't have Combat Reflexes, however, or you deal less than 26 damage, let everyone know so they can refer to the following spoiler.
Tanith is affected by Maze, and must on his turn make an Intelligence check, DC 20, to return to the fight.
Round 8: Astraden, Zalamandra and Tanith are up—but wait for Farrukh to resolve those AoOs first.

Dungeon Kobold |

Incidentally, attacking from reach doesn't burn Farrukh.

Farrukh Al-Khatel |

Defensive Focus DOES give me Combat Reflexes (specced off Int rather than Dex) for the duration.
AoO Slash: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35
Damage: 1d6 + 16 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 16 + (5) = 22
AoO Slash: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 16 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 16 + (6) = 23
Concealment: 4d100 ⇒ (99, 83, 60, 70) = 312
And I'm not sure how many images he has left. That will determine it, kind of. Unless the damage kills him it doesn't make a difference.

Dungeon Kobold |

1d7 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 4 5 images remain, including the real Harbinger.
Unfortunately, both of Farrukh's strikes pass through fading images, leaving the real Harbinger untouched. Tanith vanishes from sight.
Tanith, give me an Int check, as mentioned above (it's a full round action, but if you succeed, you break free). Astraden, make a Fortitude save vs. poison.
Round 8: Astraden/Zalamandra/Tanith are up.

Sundakan |

I was just looking back so I could make an edit. It looked like Eben popped Mirror Image #6 back in this post, so there were 5 left.

Eben MacTeague |

Isn't Farrukh attacking with eyes closed, still?

Zaℓamandra |

Zalamandra's action whether or not Farrukh succeeds in stopping the spell:
Zalamandra raises her hands and calls, "El!" With a strong smell of ozone, two bright, burning orbs appear - one next to the grappled naga, the other completely encompassing the tail of the second naga. The northern orb slowly glides over the face of the grappled naga, and a heavy smell of sulfur pervades the air as the naga's scales scorch.
Ball north: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) = 13 DC 18 Reflex save to halve. [3/6]
Ball south: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) = 11 DC 18 Reflex to halve.
Will vs. repulsion (good hope, moment of greatness, sick air): 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 27
Zalamandra then moves up and begins rooting around in Astraden's pack, closing her eyes as she comes close to the nagas.
The strange hair tentacles continue to writhe, constricting the wounded naga.
Left (2nd round grappling): 1d20 + 15 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 15 + 5 = 39 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Round 8: Cast ball lightning (standard action), movement (move action). Mage armor lasts 4793 rounds and detect scrying 13193 rounds on Zalamandra. Shield lasts 90 rounds. Mirror image lasts 91 rounds. Fly lasts 93 rounds on Zyrxogurine, 95 rounds on Allustatue, and 96 rounds on Carina. Haste lasts 4 rounds on everyone except Cuetzpalli. Evard's black tentacles lasts 7 rounds. Ball lightning lasts 10 rounds.

Dungeon Kobold |

Unfortunately, that was from the Harbinger pre-Time Stop.
Eben: You can't score an AoO with your eyes closed.
Reflexes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
The nagas writhe in pain and surprise as the lightning courses through their foul bodies.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith curses as the harbinger's magic takes hold and he disappears from sight.
***
Lost in the seemingly endless maze, Tanith spins around and picks a direction.
Int (good hope): 1d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 + 2 = 19
Action Point!: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
With a *pop* he reappears where he vanished from. "Whoa. What in the Nine Hells was that?"

Dungeon Kobold |

It's sooooooo f$@~ed that clerics can channel while grappled without having to make some kind of check. How did I never notice that before!? Although I could argue that since I'm holding him he couldn't "present his holy symbol" even if he could get one hand to it. Since grappling specifically says you can't do anything that needs two hands. I should have just repositioned him into flanking and full attacked him. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
To be honest, I kinda have to agree with Cuetzpalli. You'd need at least one hand free to present a holy symbol, wouldn't you?
Hm, what interesting interpretations. I guess we'll have to...
Carina Viera wrote:To be honest, I kinda have to agree with Cuetzpalli. You'd need at least one hand free to present a holy symbol, wouldn't you?I had always assumed not, since it's supernatural and "presenting" could just mean having it out and displayable...
Ugh. Damn it, Gark. Yeah, in response to his IRL question, Astraden can channel while paralyzed. :P

Eben MacTeague |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I am sure the look on KC's face right now is totally worth Theldrick having killed Carina way back when...

Dungeon Kobold |

As mentioned in the Discussion thread, it was about whether or not Theldrick (remember Theldrick?) could channel while grappled. We ruled that he could, but the main reason was because even if "presenting the symbol" involved a physical action, he still had one hand free with which to do it. Here, Astraden doesn't even have that, so it was more of a question. But I half-jokingly promised Gark I'd go with whatever position he went with back then when the tables were turned.

Astraden Limhaare |

I forgot, Astraden has copycat so she should have a 50% chance of not being super almost dead or paralyzed. Bite: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Touch attack: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Worth a shot.
Astraden tries to fight off the poison, devoting the only resource she has left - willpower - to that aim.
AP for Great Fortitude [5/11]
Fortitude (good hope, sick air, negative levels, Great Fortitude): 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 - 2 - 4 + 2 = 12 [1/12]
She feels her intellect draining away, and focuses on setting the animated objects some new instructions before it's gone entirely. The Allustan statue picks up the wormcaller's body from where it's slowly settling into the worms, then moves forward, still carrying that item. The Zyrxog statue and door fly off into the westward corridor.
Raknian statue Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 So, 5 feet below the worm surface?
Zyrxog statue flies as close as it can get to repulsion without entering tentacles. Door flies . . . a lot slower. Allustan statue is picking up an improvised weapon and moving. All objects are now targeting the Harbinger. I'm going to be wanting to spend some APs for door- and statue-throwing shenanigans.
Round 8: Redirect animated objects (move action). Communal air walk lasts 77 rounds on Carina, Zalamandra, and Cuetzpalli and 177 on Farrukh, Tanith, Eben, and Astraden. Death ward lasts 98 rounds on Zalamandra and 99 on Cuetzpalli. Magic circle against law lasts 1180 rounds on Astraden. Magic circle against evil lasts 1181 rounds on Farrukh. Communal resist energy (fire) lasts 82 rounds on Farrukh, Eben, and Carina and 182 rounds on Astraden, Cuetzpalli, Tanith, and Zalamandra. Communal resist energy (electricity) lasts 83 rounds on Farrukh, Eben, and Carina and 183 rounds on Astraden, Cuetzpalli, Tanith, and Zalamandra. Bear's endurance lasts 104 rounds on Carina and 105 rounds on Cuetzpalli. Shield of faith lasts 106 rounds on Astraden, 108 on Eben, 110 on Zalamandra, and 111 on Cuetzpalli. Animate objects lasts 5 rounds. Copycat lasts 6 rounds. Confusion lasts 7 rounds.
e: Oh, okay, cool. Channel positive energy (healing): 5d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 5, 5) = 18 [3/7] [24/74]
Focusing on the mask still hanging around her neck, which the naga forgot to tear away, Astraden releases a moderately soothing burst of energy.

Dungeon Kobold |

The statue is indeed 5 feet below the surface.
Round 9: The Worm Nagas
25% chance it doesn't go for blood: 1d100 ⇒ 38
"Destroy the Fated!" shrieks the grappled naga. "Mak'ar commands it!"
The other worm naga squirms forth, lamprey-like mouth drooling ichor, as it sets its eyes on the paralyzed cleric poised to be restored. "No, no," it chides. "What is seen in the waking eye is birthed in the maw of worms. You will not rob the two of us of this destiny." It lunges forward for Astraden's throat.
Tanith gets an AoO. Unless he deals 100+ damage, though:
Coup de Grace: 4d6 + 14 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 5) + 14 = 27
Astraden takes 27 damage and must make a Fortitude save, DC 37, or die.
CMB: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26 I assume that breaks free.
The other worm naga wriggles free from the tentacles and begins slowly squirming towards a safe area.
Round 9: Carina, Farrukh, Cuetzpalli and Eben are up.
EDIT: Wait, I forgot Copycat: 1d2 ⇒ 1.
Or not. Olidammara is really screwing with Astraden today.

Dungeon Kobold |

Oh, and Farrukh, Carina and Cuetzpalli all need to make fresh Will saves against the feeblemind gaze. DC 21, as mentioned above. As an arcane caster, Cuetzpalli takes a -4 penalty on his save.

Eben MacTeague |

"TENTH ATY!" In the course of a few seconds, Eben sees one friend's throat ripped out and another seemingly plucked from existence by the skeletal hands of the Harbinger. Given a choice of enemies to enact his rage upon, (and being urged on by a frustrated-sounding Forzamele) some atavistic instinct in his simplified brain decides the flying lich is the one more worthy of a few more arrows. Concealment: 14d100 ⇒ (38, 12, 79, 13, 73, 93, 85, 42, 34, 40, 81, 54, 11, 17) = 672
Potential hits: Broken Blade Slash, Bash, Bash Haste.
Confirm Broken Blade Slash?: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24
Broken Blade Slash Damage: 1d6 + 16 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 16 + (6) = 23
Bash Damage: 1d6 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Bash Haste Damage: 1d6 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
34, 25, and 31 to-hit respectively.
I may need to start rolling Concealment first and just rolling attack rolls for potential hits, this is getting too messy.
