So been looking over my character sheet, and it looks like I'm under supplied on 1st level spells known. (I devoted 3 favored class levels to additional 1st level spells, which means I should know 8, but I only know 7. Double checking my level up logs, i think I forgot to give myself a new one at 7th level. (Shame, moment of glory could have been useful a few times during the Zyrxog crawl...) I'm not sure what I want to pick to fill in that gap- at this point, I thought I'd had all the ones I wanted, and hadn't thought ahead to the next time I'll take one. Any opinions on the matter? Cure light wounds is the default fallback (we're good on healing as is, but another emergency source can't hurt), or possibly featherfall for the instances where it becomes needed.
(As a refresher, the current crop is: 1st (5/day)-abundant ammunition, featherstep, moment of glory, saving finale, silent image, timely inspiration, vanish)

Good spell, just not sure it's good for Eben. I've been avoiding spells with saving throws for a while now due to the fact that my Charisma is probably never going to go above 16. (Well, maybe a bit higher once headbands etc. come into play, but not a huge priority). Plus Eben doesn't really feint or disarm.
I don't use it for the feint/disarm. I use it for the potential swift action blind. Even at DC 14 that's a decent shot against folks with dismal will saves.
Borrow Skill is good and versatile, if a bit niche.
It's useful for stuff like "Farrukh has been blinded, but we need to unlock this door!" or "Everybody failed their Spellcraft checks to identify this!" and so on.

Oh, come on. I challenge you to find me ANY spellcaster that uses more than a small percent of their known or even memorized cantrips.
When I joined up, there were two spellcasters already on board with detect magic on their spell list. Zalamandra joined at the same time as myself, making it three. (And while Zal is long gone, Rodrigo can cast it as well, now.) My saying 'I cast detect magic on it' would have been redundant with the three other casters who just said the same thing. (Especially since, as has been pointed out, zero ranks in Spellcraft.) So I went for fun/entertainment oriented cantrips instead.
Anyhow. Back to the original point at hand. Borrow skill is a highly useful spell. So useful that I made a point of having a wand of it as part of my starting gear. Which I have not had to use even once over the past four levels. Nevertheless, that's still a spell worth considering, because hey, that day might actually come. I mean, I took featherstep right after we finished the grimlock caves because the difficult terrain was so obnoxious for that entire stretch, and I haven't had cause to use it since then, but I don't regret the selection, either...
But man, it's times like this that I miss improvisation from 3.5 days.

I generally end up with 4-5 of Detect/Read Magic, Detect Poison, Arcane Mark, Prestidigitation, Ray of Frost or Acid Splash, and Mage Hand, and use most constantly. I generally have the problem of being bummed because I don't have enough Cantrip slots.
Detect Poison has always seemed like one of the most useless spells, unless you have an a&#%~%* GM who likes to poison PC food every now and then just to keep you all ungodly paranoid.

Actually, I've always found it a decent makeshift trap detection spell.
Eh, maybe not mechanically useful, but adventurers are paranoid sumb@&~*es...why wouldn't they, if they can, test every piece of food and drink before they ingest it?

It occurs to me I've never had a character with solid note, and I've always thought it was potentially a fun/versatile little spell. Basically a quick and dirty immovable rod as a 1st level spell. Anyone with thoughts on that?

Eh, part of the reason I couldn't be chuffed to care about destroying Strahd vs. selling it (aside from my materialistic nature...) is that anyone who wants to be the proud owner of an item that inevitably brings about their own horrible demise isn't someone I could bring myself to care about the well being of. So let the museum breakouts begin!

No, no it wouldn't. Way of the Wicked is hilariously easy, no reason to kill myself for 2d6 extra damage against half the things I fight.

When I saw Carina's message, it occurred to me that it would be received by a seasoned, "properly paranoid" adventurer still a little bit unsure about her daughter's capabilities.
I figured everyone* needed a bit of a "silly encounter" after the whole ordeal that was HoHR, so I decided to run with it. As I expected, the PC banter blew what I'd set up totally out of the water. :P
*Except Carina and Tanith, I mean.
