The reality is that there is currently no Batman, but there is still the idea of Batman. And sometimes Batman shows up in Gotham. Bruce Wayne is currently retired from public life. Batman hasn't been around with the League for at least 10 years, but Knightingale has been filling that role until her injury at the beginning of the campaign.

I'm at a bit of a loss what Fate can do in this situation. Seems more like Kara/Gigabyte's arena. I guess we need to get to a terminal and try and access the files, presumably after bypassing firewalls, etc?
DoctorFate |
Fate should be able to do literally anything. You could maybe provide protection for the others, or drive back the shadows, or animate the giant dinosaur. Really, with magic, anything goes.
I guess my hope was that one of the heroes whose wheelhouse this is more squarely in would step in. Seems like we've stalled for a bit here.

Was never really that into metal, myself.
Unhuman, who do you think of when you hear "metal"?
I'm just asking because a lot of people hear some kind of death-metal and get turned off, or they think "I don't like Metallica, so I don't like metal". (Metallica is pop-rock, not metal.)
Anyway, not unlike most of music, metal has so many subcultures, that I think that there is a sub-genre out there for everyone.
Like, did you listen to that first song? That's ManOWar. Too metal?
There's also Sabaton, a very much more mainstream metal band that takes a lot inspiration from history. Like, um, this thing.
Still too metal? I just discovered these guys and, wow, boy are they good. That's the thing about the Japanese bands. Always high production value.
Still too metal? Alright, time for the finisher. Nightwish has finally planted their flag firmly in the metal camp, and this song is just...nice to listen to.
And then, for some reason, Holy Crap it's Christopher Lee singing with Rhapsody of Fire because reasons! =D

It's all really "epic" sounding music, don't get mr wrong. But I'm just not that into all that heavy in your face headbanger beat. I tend to like things with a softer more melancholic tone.
I can dig harder music, but more in the vein of Punk Rock then Metal. That's just the sorta guy I am.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I've been frustrated by the fact that every time I want to recruit for 2nd Edition, one of the biggest arguments for 3rd edition is that there is an SRD. I get that. I use the heck out of the SRD for other games. I'd love to have a similar resource for this game. So I finally decided to do something about it. It is in very infant stages, but I've started working on an SRD website for 2nd edition. If you are interested in helping me out, just let me know.
Unhuman |
I'm not familiar enough with the 2e rules in depth, but I do applaud your dedication to the craft mate. I have the rulebooks on file, so even for 3rd I've yet to rely on SRD content. The rulebooks are pretty clear, concise, and easy to find what you're looking for. Pathfinder on the other hand...
Btw, I'm... not sure how to respond to Kara's action, seeing as William didn't tackle her, he only went to pull her out of the light. So, I think i'll just have to gloss over it and respond to the 'Ol batman.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
You ever try to push/pull a girl who isn't expecting it? The thing can become a "tangle of limbs" real quick. =p
Of note, Imagine considers silence to be consent. So, uh, good luck. ;-D
GM SuperTumbler |
There have been some concerns about the narrative and build balance between Imagine and her minions and the rest of the party. I'm just going to leave it at that for now. Imagine would like some details regarding people's feelings about this subject, and I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, so let this begin the conversation.
My only goals here are to help everyone have fun and to tell good stories.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
First off, I'm bewildered that _no_one_ came to me directly first off. I've gamed with you all for quite some time and why did you all feel like you had to start talking to the GM first?
Just come out with it and lets hammer this out.
Kyle 'Gigabyte' Knight |
If it eases your mind, I don't give a damn about Imagine's power or Attero's for what is worth.
On one hand, I've played with you long enough to envy your roleplaying. As you make the game much more immersive and enjoyable for me, a bit of unbalance goes unnoticed.
On the other hand, your strength has never deterred me from having time to shine, nor have you hog the spotlight... so once again, different power levels go unnoticed.
Aaaand to boot, if I were to blame someone for the disparity between Imagine and Gigabyte, that would be me. I built him 'wrong' and he is lackluster in many departments, partly because I didn't know better, partly because that was half of the fun: a cyborg that needs improvement.
Call it Gigabyte 1.0.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
There! You see! That is _exactly_ me in a nutshell.
AND now seems a good time to reiterate that GMST is _very_ forgiving about remaking builds. -of course- you're going to go through some learning pains learning a new system, but GMST was very open about understanding this.
Hell, all I'm doing narratively right now is that I googled "Times when Batman screwed up" (I'm not going to give a link, that's srsly what I put into google) and then read the wikipedia entry on some of them. Bam. Interesting dialogue.
Unhuman |
I was hoping that ST would tell me something to help ease my mind, honestly, as I didn't want to upset you as a friend of mine.
I don't have any issue with Imagine personally, and I love just how her general attitude turns William into an even more awkward mush then he already is. Attero and the other minions though, I'm not all smiles about them. ST assures me that they're not doing anything to disrupt his plans in any significant fashion, but all those dice rolls tends to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
The other part of it is that it seems they take up way more screen-time then their status as minions warrants. Sure, they can have speaking lines and even names, but this feels less like a "New Justice League" comic and more like "Kara and her posse take on the world Featuring Attero from Gotham May Cry".
You're a good writer, mate. You really know how to string words together and illicit some emotion. I'd just rather that emotion be less envy and more pride.
TL;DR, You're a good writer, but it feels like you're hogging the spotlight.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
Dave! No! Say it ain't so! =p
Alright, I'll ask you the important question: What would you have me do?
I admit I made the LexSec to have some strength where Imagine had weakness--she doesn't have much offensively, and they shoot things with guns. Also, they have a few neat tricks that Imagine doesn't have--the aforementioned Fearless, which might be the straw that broke this back?
Remember, as minions they have exactly 1 hit point. If they fail a single TOU roll they're down. Sure, I spent (some would say "wasted") points so that they can come back in the next scene, but that does all of dick if we lose the fight.
Are you talking about combat or the talkings? Right now almost all of us PCs are laid up in one way or another, so, yeah, there's a vacuum that I'm just filling. But that's it. We're all just spinning wheels until we get to save from the Flashbulb. Hell, I kinda thought it would be nice to have something to read instead of "So, is it next round yet? It's not like the whole party being blind and deaf isn't super fun, but how about we move it along a bit?"
As far as combat they're just using off-the-rack weapons. And always will. If you noticed they were almost worthless in our first fight because anything worth fighting had Impervious 8, which cancels out all of their attacks.
So, let's put a fine point on it. What would you have me do? (Mind you, I've named just about all of them, and I was about to have them start a dialogue. I even came up with poetry!)
(Also also, no matter what I'll have to keep Attero. Gotham May Cry is just to awesome to lose. I call it as a band name!! =p)
Unhuman |
To be fair, the point of being on a team with other heroes is that where your character fails the others excell. We're here to support and lean off of one another, ya know? I think something you could do is instead of having twelve on script minions, you turn that into Sidekick 12 and have Attero be the guy Lex has keeping an eye on you. She might still have the team of dudes, but they go off and do their own things rather then come along with us on missions. Background NPCs, essentially.
I know we're all fighting blind here, but that's part of what makes it exciting. We're in a desperate situation with an old cranky man who wants us kids off his lawn and is doing so with an AK 47 compared to our slingshots. What I'm waiting for is when one of us nails him in the eye with a pebble and we turn things around. It feels less dramatic when it's 15 kids vrs. 1 old man then it is to be four Vrs. one. If... if that makes any sense.
And overall, maybe just... tone it down a little? Like I've said, you're an excellent writer, but it drags on for a mite bit too long. Take Hickle and Shmick for instance. They're two different characters, and while they can get amped up, I try to keep that minimal and the lines of dialog small. Not a five-ten paragraph monologue in a single action. :P
Edit: Okay, this last one is more personal, but PLEASE cut it out with the 1332speak. I can barely contain the amount of cringe I feel when I read it, that stuff was never funny and now it's far too out of date.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
(teehee. Now I'm imagining an old man saying "Gah. You kids. Get off my lawn!" And then one kid yells "GET 'IM!" and then the old man says "oh bloody hell" and 15 kids pile on him. teeheheheeheehee.)
*ahem*
GMST didn't say how many guns I was under fire from, so Imma wait for Dr. Fate to weigh in before we start chucking numbers around, but I've...never considered mass of dialogue to be a big deal. Whenever I see another PCs entry (and, hell, half the GM entries I see) I do pull a "TL, bord now" and just skip it. Oh by all means feel free to skip any dialogue you don't care for. Again, the current entries are just filer since there's not much else going on, and it's a thing that I've wondered for awhile: Does Batman really care about his mistakes? (a.ka.: Reasons why IronMan is better than Batman. ^_^ At least Tony has been known to drink himself into a stupor feeling sorry for his mistakes. =p)
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
That's why I put the hyperlinks to Wikipedia...but I understand if that is, itself, TL;DR. =)
Of note, I'd actually like -more- between Hickle and Shmick. Right now it just seems like the gnome says something, and the golem quips against it, and that's all their relationship is. I mean, I've put some work in to it so Anton and Alanna really _feel_ like a couple, and not just that she means as much to Anton as one of the eagle's meant to Isagoras. Does that make any sense?
Unhuman |
I suppose. Truthfully, Anton oddly comes across as someone very punchible, but I can't for the life of me figure out why. I'll get back to you on that. I personally felt like I was keeping their relationship genuine enough to feel real, while also not detracting from anything else. I think I might ask in MM Discussion what others think.
DoctorFate |
Sorry I'm late to this game. Personally I don't have any problem with Imagine/Team Luthor, but that's partially because I'm having trouble being effective in my own right, so having one PC take the lead is fine from my perspective. It's very much in Az' personality to sit back and observe, anyway.
I do get what Uret Jet/Unhuman is saying, I can see how someone would feel that way. Part of what I don't like about M&M is it's really easy to make a character that dominates play to the point of this becoming a concern. I've seen it many times, and it's why I'm pretty much done running M&M as a system. GMST sees to have a pretty good handle on it, and goes out of the way to give us opportunities and pointers.
In closing, I definitely see this as a solvable problem, if everyone is willing to work together.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
Sorry, I'm not seeing it. It just says I can move the number on the scale list, and the list goes from 1 to 2 to 5.
How about I cut it down to 5, and I give each guy a unique power? I'm thinking about Healing, Drain, Fatigue, Negation, and....Entangle?
How does that sound?
GM SuperTumbler |
They don't have to be identical in statistics. Just in type.
I think in the past I've seen people deal with the numbers by using a drawback (so you buy 5 minions and take a drawback to make it 3 or whatever). I'm not sure the option to spam 5 different conditions per round would make them less in the spotlight, but I'm not sure what else to suggest.
"Imagine," Kara Luthor |
Ugh. The sidekick deal is...rough. Even maxing out with just one you get...a sidekick. Think Robin (waaaaaay before Nightwing).
Uh, what's the drawback to make it less than 5? Will four be okay? That's still a lance, which is an important number. You can still walk in a wedge with one commander/reserve.
I'm still doing Math! to this. Not sure yet.
And who is 'ST'? =p
Kyle 'Gigabyte' Knight |
SuperTumbler = ST, I think.
Anyway, I'll be posting today, as I have just recently catch the update. Not like I can do anything for now, gotta think what my options are without Batman being located... unless... SuperTumbler, if the Bat can be controlled remotely would it be feasible for me to try and hack it through the BatPC? Even if difficult, if it's feasible I'll try once I regain my vision.
DoctorFate |
if the Bat can be controlled remotely would it be feasible for me to try and hack it through the BatPC?
Remember to let Fate know (in character) if you gain control, since he's currently trying to control it's movement magnetically. If you grab it, I'll move on to something else.
